An immovable object (my perfectionism) meets an unstoppable force (my proclivity to say "fuck it" and move on). FIGHT.
#art#fiber art#crochet#guess who is paying the price of not counting stitches! :)!#i even frogged a few rows just to fix a weird hole problem in this project#if i finish this project i'm only keeping it as a reminder of the horrors#the only good thing is that this pattern was so much easier than it looked (so far)#this is the type of unreasonable thinking that has me convinced blocking would be the solution rather than counting stitches right#thankfully this skein is a red heart skein (i have learned i don't particularly like acrylic but i won't be wearing this so whatever)#so it's a rather big skein so i'll be able to use it for another copy of this pattern#fuck it we ball? more like fuck it we frog (frogging 7-10 rows rn)#holy shit they're right crochet takes up so much yarn holy fuck

September
Did you ever do, like, 98% of a project and take a break? And then something happens and you are suddenly only 75% done?
Welp, I reached the end of my last skein. Rather, I had used up enough of it that I wouldn't be able to do another round with the short length remaining, so I was done. All over but the last little bits. I had already decided with myself that I wouldn't pout if/when I ran out of yarn. The blanket is big enough however it is and maybe I'll keep a few more things in mind for next time. Pleased with my progress, I switched gears, finished my Halloween project, etc.
And then I accidentally got stuck in my closet. (Not a relevant metaphor.) While in the closet and in between yanking on the door knob to get the door to budge, I noticed that I had a whole 'nother skein just lying on the floor waiting to be used. So as soon as I got out of the closet I was back to the hook.
September is just 4 rounds. Again, it would look more noticeable if I had followed the instructions to use two different colors of yarn. And I probably should have been smart about it and maybe consolidated rounds 2 and 3 given that I was not switching, but so it goes. There's 212 popcorns in round 2, and they took a lot of time and yarn.

The whole thing is now maybe 41" in diameter. And wrinkly.

Mystery crochet along (MCAL) 2023
I took up knitting and crochet during the pandemic, learning from all the super helpful YouTube videos for newbies. It makes such a difference to be able to watch videos of people doing the stitches and learn from them how to make different things.
I gave away 6 crocheted hats for Xmas in December, and made two more that I'm keeping in reserve for random gifts as needed.
In January, I started the Mystery Crochet Along from Expression Fiber Arts. Apparently every month they'll release another few rounds of the pattern. I've finished January and am awaiting the release of February.

The trick is that YouTube is my teacher and my training wheels. I know how to copy the actions on the screen but reading a pattern with no visual walkthrough is a new challenge. Yes, the pattern says, "do this," but what does that mean? What is it supposed to look like? I don't know, it's a mystery.
