I can never stop thinking about The Neighborhood (Nightwing (1996) #10). It lives rent-free in my mind. Like, here's a list of things that appear/happen in Dick's nightmare:
He's married to Donna
They have two kids
Donna is cheating on him with Roy
Dick works an office job
Dick's boss is the Joker
Bruce works at the same company as him but much higher up
Bruce & Selina are married
They also live next door to Dick & Donna
Poison Ivy and the Penguin are married and also live nearby
Jason is a skeleton and the paperboy and he goes by JT
Jean-Paul Valley takes Bruce's place above Dick when Bruce gets promoted
Tim also works there and gets mad at Dick for screwing up the budget
Bruce throws Dick's son out a window & the kid falls to his death
Like... Dick, buddy, there's a lot to unpack there. have you considered talking to someone about any of that. I think you probably should but I know you're not going to.

The DonnaRoy thing is the easy bit. He's always felt a little insecure next to Roy. He dreads Roy's usually correct judgements of him and Roy is, textually, more of a player than Dick. Of course, subconsciously, Dick would marry a good mom figure and, of course, he'd translate the fear of failing in front of Roy into other kinds of inadequacies. You think that man hasn't casually wondered what Roy must be packing and how he uses it? Subconsciously of course because straight men don't wonder ever think or talk about their friends like that. So I'm assured. Dick cant keep his team or family from splintering when he's awake. Of course his team would destroy his family when he's asleep. Of course its Roy. Roy should probably be in charge, after all...
