I know a lot of people have been saying that tech literacy is falling bc a lot of younger people aren't properly taught how to use computers anymore and they only interact with their devices through applications. and like that made sense to me given how much tech education had already been cut when I was in school, but I didn't have much contact with younger genZers to have noticed the change myself. but god now that I'm on reddit (mistake) there are so many of these people in homebrew/console hacking communities. like it boggles my mind that an intersection of people exists that 1) are tech savvy enough to be interested in console hacking 2) completely fall to pieces whenever something requires doing something on a PC and not the console itself. like it's frustrating for the people trying to help them AND for them, I'd imagine. they don't have the tools they need
#your pc and the console are friends. they like working together let them work together#for reference I'm mostly talking about vita hacking communities here#you don't need a pc to hack the thing and there's a homebrew app to uh. acquire most games without needing to transfer data#so you can do a lot without using a pc! which is convenient#but some custom stuff and some games require a pc and you see people asking for help with with basic related stuff all the time#someone was looking for a english patch of a specific game and i happened to have used a patcher for it before#so i linked the github which has the steps and everything and they were like 'but it's not on [homebrew app]'#well ok i can't help with that sorry#also i don't understand people that download pirated games directly to their vita in front of god and everyone sans vpn#maybe I'm paranoid though idk#reilly.txt

I just woke up, so good morning, let me see if I can string any words together in a coherent pattern. This has actually been on my mind for weeks. Slowly driving me insane.
200 years. Two. Hundred. Years. 2 HUNDRED years.
That amount of time is literally incomprehensible to us in terms of personal memories and trauma. We can barely remember anything collectively as a species for that amount of time without losing bits and pieces of it. It is more than 2/3 of the time that Astarion has been alive. Well, "alive."
I am currently in my mid thirties, it would be like if I had died when I was 7 or 8 years old and then had to try and remember everything about my personality and my family and my morality from that time period. I do remember it, of course, but a lot of it is pretty vague. A lot of things that I know happened, or that I know I did, I remember because there are other people in my life who knew me then. Astarion wasn't a child, of course, but time still has it's way with things, and there is no one in his life he knew from before he became a vampire, with the possible exception of Cazador, and he's hardly a reliable source of information. Trauma also damages memories, and he has spent more that 2/3 of his life being constantly starved and beaten, and abused in pretty much every possible way a person can be.
The main point being that it is simply not possible to make any firm assumptions about the kind of person Astarion was before he was turned. Maybe he was a horrible, power-hungry, back room dealing, lying, racist, POS trash-man who deserved what he got when that group of thugs jumped him. Maybe he was kind underneath all his bluster, and had a strong sense of justice, and he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most likely, he was something in between. But we can't know. And Astarion probably doesn't really know anymore either.
(I firmly believe that Cazador chose him specifically to be a spawn, and possibly even orchestrated the attack on Astarion. They might not even have really been Gur. Astarion would only have Cazador to rely on for confirmation about what really happened to him that night, and having a culture of people who hunt monsters and were likely already targeting Cazador himself be the same group that murdered Astarion seems pretty mmmm convenient.)
And for all that he is a chaos gremlin, prickly rat-bastard, dumpster fire of a man, it is honestly pretty astounding (and rewarding imo) just how much growth he can have over the course of the game, which is only a few months, tops. (assuming, of course, that you are playing a good aligned Tav/Durge) But even before that, after the first night he tries to bite you, he is the one who immediately promises that he's not going to feed from innocents, with no prompting at all from the player. He doesn't ask to keep feeding from your PC, and he only drinks from you if you offer it. (unless you direct him to in a fight, I guess, lol) That feels huge to me. He has been STARVING for 200 years. Part of being a vampire is that he's always kind of starving, but he doesn't want to be a slave to that hunger any more than he wants to be a slave to anything or anyone else.
I'm not saying that he's secretly a good man deep down, but even from the start, the potential for him to be better was already there. Which is AMAZING because, as I said earlier: TWO HUNDRED YEARS.
Like, imagine that you know absolutely nothing about yourself except misery and torture and losing things, and it fucks you up, and you KNOW it's fucked you up, and you are terrified that one wrong move could send you back to the place that you just escaped from, and you still say, "I'm still not going to attack the innocent people around me for no reason, though. Sure, I might laugh if they manage to get themselves killed in an amusing way, but it's not going to be my fault."
#Astarion#astarion ancunin#bg3#fandom meta#i guess idk lol#this is a bit stream of consciousness oops#it's honestly impressive that he's not MORE of a dick tbh#my horrible little guy has me chewing through the bars of my enclosure

AI Prompt, a Poem
Make me a game.
Make it a 4K open-world roguelike MMO with Soulslike combat and ray-tracing. Give it survival-crafting mechanics in a Battle Royale setting, medieval fantasy in 3D. Make epic battles against Skyrim-style dragons where you can do anything you want. Make sure your choices matter, and that every NPC has a rich backstory covering their entire life. Detail deep lore for warring kingdoms, factions, clans, guilds, towns, taverns, caves, dungeons, and oceans. Give me epic PvP battles and endless skill trees. Make me the best game of all time. Entertain me.
Control+A, Backspace.
Make a game jam game where I meet three people on a Discord, and one of them is really sus and we cut them out pretty early, but the other two are genuinely cool people and one of them ends up being my husband a year later. Make it so day 1 is really frustrating, but I learn a lot about how to play guitar in a really short time, which is a real breakthrough for me since I've been trying to learn for years. Make it so on day 2 we have a decent concept but have gotten out of scope, but by day 3 we have something that is pretty close to a decent prototype on it, and we end up getting a little game that PC Gamer covers in their monthly roundup in August 2021.
Live my life for me. Achieve what I feel I cannot. Deliver me from effort, Baptize me in convenience. Shield me from the fate of action.
Show me my life lowres, with bad anatomy, bad hands, text, errors. Show me my future in flat color, with three legs, wrong hands, wrong feets, wrong fingers, deformed legs, abnormal, malformed, deformed, disfigured, mutated, with extra limbs, inaccurate limbs, missing limbs, floating limbs, disconnected limbs, long necks, long bodies, mutated skeletons, long skeletons, bad proportions, mutated hands and fingers, poorly drawn hands, malformed hands, poorly drawn faces, poorly drawn asymmetrical eyes.
Justify my sadness, my anger. Justify my bad habits. Explain my reasons in a way I can understand, appreciate, in a way I can use to convince others. Justify my peoples' existence over others. Enable me.
Is there any way you can show me my life without making me look like a monster? Can you make me feel loved, or feel beautiful? Lie to me.
All I beg of you is to reduce my hopes and dreams, my loves and fears, senses, thoughts and ambitions, to scarcely less words than there are on a kid's menu. Use me.

I was suddenly reminded of a video about Filipino tourism the youtube algo recced me. Its title was "10 Things I HATE about the Philippines", or at least something to that effect. Morbid curiosity got the better of me and I watched it.
Surprisingly, I agreed with most of their early takes. A lot of the things they talked about do legitimately suck, like the littering and the poverty and the lack of access to good medical facilities.
But in the middle of the video, their takes started absolutely screaming "I only hang out with rich people/in rich neighborhoods".
"You need to a own a car or call a taxi to get anywhere."
The guy is saying this while living in/around BGC. They were under the impression that the moment you're outside of BGC's neighborhood, it's no longer convenient to get anywhere. Which I suppose makes sense for people used to more convenient public transport than what we have. Our commuter rail isn't exactly the best. But you still have plenty of options! Take a bus. Take a jeep. Take a trike. Does public transit just not count if it doesn't have air conditioning?
"All the food is incredibly unhealthy."
Bro, if you only eat in restaurants, obviously the food is going to be unhealthy. Restaurants want their food to be delicious and can afford to use more oil and seasoning than the average home cook. If you really want healthy food options without cooking the food yourself, go find the nearest carinderia and get yourself some rice and vegetables. It'll cost you less than two dollars.
"If you're not in the mood to eat, there is nothing to do."
This is the one that made me the most incredulous. They mentioned how the Philippines does not have computer cafes or public places to do sports. Which is hilarious, because there are plenty of those. In poor neighborhoods. Rich people have their own PCs at home, so they don't go to the computer cafes that exist near literally every school/university/government building. Rich people just build basketball courts in their houses so they don't need to play in the local multi-purpose gymnasium with the poor people. Hell, people will literally play basket ball, badminton, volleyball, etc on the street if the neighborhood is residential enough. What the hell was this YTer even talking about?
I stopped watching after that. It was too Tourist-y for my tastes (which was honestly what I expected, but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after the few actually good points they made at the start)

So I made an app for PROTO. Written in Kotlin and runs on Android.
Next, I want to upgrade it with a controller mode. It should work so so I simply plug a wired xbox controller into my phone with a USB OTG adaptor… and bam, the phone does all the complex wireless communication and is a battery. Meaning that besides the controller, you only need the app and… any phone. Which anyone is rather likely to have Done.
Now THAT is convenient!
( Warning, the rest of the post turned into... a few rants. ) Why Android? Well I dislike Android less than IOS
So it is it better to be crawling in front of the alter of "We are making the apocalypse happen" Google than "5 Chinese child workers died while you read this" Apple?
Not much…
I really should which over to a better open source Linux distribution… But I do not have the willpower to research which one... So on Android I stay.
Kotlin is meant to be "Java, but better/more modern/More functional programming style" (Everyone realized a few years back that the 100% Object oriented programming paradigme is stupid as hell. And we already knew that about the functional programming paradigme. The best is a mix of everything, each used when it is the best option.) And for the most part, it succeeds. Java/Kotlin compiles its code down to "bytecode", which is essentially assembler but for the Java virtual machine. The virtual machine then runs the program. Like how javascript have the browser run it instead of compiling it to the specific machine your want it to run on… It makes them easy to port…
Except in the case of Kotlin on Android... there is not a snowflakes chance in hell that you can take your entire codebase and just run it on another linux distribution, Windows or IOS…
So... you do it for the performance right? The upside of compiling directly to the machine is that it does not waste power on middle management layers… This is why C and C++ are so fast!
Except… Android is… Clunky… It relies on design ideas that require EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM AND APP ON YOUR PHONE to behave nicely (Lots of "This system only works if every single app uses it sparingly and do not screw each-other over" paradigms .). And many distributions from Motorola like mine for example comes with software YOUR ARE NOT ALLOWED TO UNINSTALL... meaning that software on your phone is ALWAYS behaving badly. Because not a single person actually owns an Android phone. You own a brick of electronics that is worthless without its OS, and google does not sell that to you or even gift it to you. You are renting it for free, forever. Same with Motorola which added a few extra modifications onto Googles Android and then gave it to me.
That way, google does not have to give any rights to its costumers. So I cannot completely control what my phone does. Because it is not my phone. It is Googles phone.
That I am allowed to use. By the good graces of our corporate god emperors
"Moose stares blankly into space trying to stop being permanently angry at hoe everyone is choosing to run the world"
… Ok that turned dark… Anywho. TLDR There is a better option for 95% of apps (Which is "A GUI that interfaces with a database") "Just write a single HTML document with internal CSS and Javascript" Usually simpler, MUCH easier and smaller… And now your app works on any computer with a browser. Meaning all of them…
I made a GUI for my parents recently that works exactly like that. Soo this post:
It was frankly a mistake of me to learn Kotlin… Even more so since It is a… awful language… Clearly good ideas then ruined by marketing department people yelling "SUPPORT EVERYTHING! AND USE ALL THE BUZZWORD TECHNOLOGY! Like… If your language FORCES you to use exceptions for normal runtime behavior "Stares at CancellationException"... dear god that is horrible...
Made EVEN WORSE by being a really complicated way to re-invent the GOTO expression… You know... The thing every programmer is taught will eat your feet if you ever think about using it because it is SO dangerous, and SO bad form to use it? Yeah. It is that, hidden is a COMPLEATLY WRONG WAY to use exceptions…
goodie… I swear to Christ, every page or two of my Kotlin notes have me ranting how I learned how something works, and that it is terrible... Blaaa. But anyway now that I know it, I try to keep it fresh in my mind and use it from time to time. Might as well. It IS possible to run certain things more effective than a web page, and you can work much more directly with the file system. It is... hard-ish to get a webpage to "load" a file automatically... But believe me, it is good that this is the case.
Anywho. How does the app work and what is the next version going to do?
PROTO is meant to be a platform I test OTHER systems on, so he is optimized for simplicity. So how you control him is sending a HTTP 1.1 message of type Text/Plain… (This is a VERY fancy sounding way of saying "A string" in network speak). The string is 6 comma separated numbers. Linear movement XYZ and angular movement XYZ.
The app is simply 5 buttons that each sends a HTTP PUT request with fixed values. Specifically 0.5/-0.5 meter/second linear (Drive back or forward) 0.2/-0.2 radians/second angular (Turn right or turn left) Or all 0 for stop
(Yes, I just formatted normal text as code to make it more readable... I think I might be more infected by programming so much than I thought...)
Aaaaaanywho. That must be enough ranting. Time to make the app

Honkai: Star Rail or "I Ramble About Luocha, Kafka, Silver Wolf and Turn Based RPGs Then Realize It's Getting Too Long, I'm Tired and Can Only Talk About One Of Them"
From looking through Youtube comments, I realized that quite a lot of people don't seem to really understand where to look for a character's power, what makes them good/bad, the main advantages and disadvantages you'd get from rolling and building them. And since I haven't written anything and I really like talking about games, I figured why not?
This will also probably be a rather long post as I've a tendency to just ramble
A key concept people don't seem to realize is that action economy is a thing. The more turns you have, the more options you get. What this also means is that free actions have quite a lot of value to them.
Counters or Follow-Ups lead to damage and possibly Breaks ((which may or may not be the Break you want, but you'll have to strategize around that)) and heals lead to a free turn for the healer, which leads to either more healing or damage, with the latter being super important because you get skill points to use abilties.
This means that characters like Kafka, March 7th and even Herta bringing in a lot of value, albeit to varying degrees.
Which leads to a conversation involving and about Luocha. While initially I had no plans to roll for him, despite him being voiced by Katsura and being a healer, I realized, upon reading his kit, that he brought a lot of convenience and quality of life to the team, so much so that I could definitely play more aggressively and not be punished for it.
You see, Luocha is a character that would have been strong even if all he had was his conditional auto healing ((Luocha heals any ally at 50% HP or under. This can only happen once every two turns)). All Mihoyo had to do was give the man this ability and another group healing ult and he would have been a strong contender against Bailu and Natasha.
((In fact, it would have been a pretty interesting balance, with Luocha being able to auto heal and thus provide options, Bailu having a ress and Natasha bringing in a cleanse)) In their infinite wisdom, Mihoyo decided to not just give him a cleanse, they gave him his healing field, which immediately ramped up his value to stupid degrees, as now every single attack from a team mate would heal themselves and, with a quick upgrade down his Trace tree, the team. While you'd often find the use of the heal field overkill, it's absolutely great when fighting bosses such as Phantylia, with every attack healing a few hundred to a thousand of the PC's HP.
To balance this, Mihoyo gave him a damage dealing ult which also removes buffs from the enemy, including resurrection. As it's not a team wide heal you have to plan a bit around enemy bursts and line up an additional ultimate or two to make sure you get some healing as the healing field comes up.
But the sheer power of the healing and off turn healing is simply so ridiculous that it barely matters. In a game where healing costs both a Skill Point and a turn, the ability to heal without using either is simply ridiculous.
To put it into perspective:
Character A uses their turn to attack and generate a skill point. Healer uses their turn to heal one character.
This means that to perform a heal, you need to expend two turns and a skill point.
However, in the case of Luocha, this changes to
Character A uses their turn to attack and generate a skill point. Luocha ignores the wounded and attacks, generating another skill point. Character A who was wounded is hit, and is now under 50% health Luocha heals Character A
So now not only did you get a heal, you've gotten two skill points, putting you in a significantly better position than if you were using another healer. Note that this does come at the risk of having your characters hit ((sub))50% HP, which can be a bit of an iffy condition sometimes, but from my experience, it's not an issue that pops up often enough to warrant concern.
This means that you could run a skill point hungry team and mostly be finem and when manually piloting the team you'll generally have enough skill points that you don't actually have to think too hard about budgeting them.
And then you get his healing field, which is basically a super healing phase to take your whole team back to full health at little to no extra cost, which is basically the advantages of his off-turn healing on steroids.
All this makes him an absolute monster at generating skill points.
Anyways, the reason why I'm talking about Luocha is that he's a great example of things to consider when rolling for a character. Honkai: Star Rail doesn't have characters that can heal off-turn without the use of their ultimates, which take three to four turns to charge up, which means he gets a strong single target heal a turn or two quicker, which is invaluable in a pinch.
A character like Luocha opens up a lot of opportunities and gives quite a lot of quality of life.
Note that this does not mean that he's a must pull, only that a character like him brings a lot more to the table than most people seem to realize.

Heya babes - yes, a laptop does make it a fuck ton easier! I used to do work on my tablet before I switched to a laptop and I swear to god I'll never go back. The writing is just so much less frustrating and programs like word and the likes just work a lot better on PC than they do on phones. It's nice that you can multitab without it impeding your workflow too much and, personally, I'm can type quickly on a keyboard and not so much on anything else.
Also you can get programs like grammarly which not only help with spelling but also phrasing and sentence structure and citavi, which is a super nifty program that helps you quote properly and builds a directory for you.
(I legitimately believe I wouldn't have graduated without citavi. Hands down.)
So if you're able to, I'd suggest going for it! I
I think like, I have a Bluetooth keyboard but I’m so so slow on it compared to on the phone that I’m wondering if I got a laptop I would just not use it cos I’d get frustrated!! But i am taking in everything you’re saying, they’re fast and convenient and have useful tools. I love you thank you for answering me!

Well, I bought ad-free Tumblr.
I did it because I realized what I would prefer, if I could have my way (aside from just no one needing to pay for anything at all ever hahahahaha), then we'd all pay to subscribe to tumblr and it just wouldn't be free. It'd be like $1.99 per month and all of us would pay it and have no ads and be happy and whee.
Now that's not my serious opinion. I know, for one, what happens when you stick things behind a paywall. Tumblr might not be a scientific journal or reputable news source (lol) but a paywall still divides, still excludes, and that's antithetical to the entire experience of the Internet. And then, there would still be all the other social media sites that have ads and don't make you pay out of pocket, which would sail on with everyone who can't afford or doesn't want to afford tumblr.
Everyone paying a nice, neat, cheap monthly fee or discount annual fee and getting along together is what would work best for me, but it's not realistic for everyone. But, since I'm willing to do it, I thought, why haven't I? And I'll tell you why: Because idk about the rest of you, but much of tumblr really doesn't work that well for me. I have issues with posting, especially with paragraph breaks and trying to move bits of text around. I don't like that posts I reblogged in the past are hidden forever behind "Flagged for mature content" warnings and it's like. A picture of a cat. Not to mention broken music links and videos (which I guess aren't tumblr's fault, just makes me sad). I don't like how pictures seem to always end up sized differently and you have to open it just the right way to see it how you want. Not to mention a bunch of features tumblr used to have that I loved have gone away or been massively de-emphasized: support for music players on blogs, for example. (Yes I still have one but it's a pain the neck.) Polls are nice but I miss that. I also miss convenient free themes - they're still there of course! But finding one that has everything I want (no endless scrolling, clear navigation, visible icon and description, music player, etc) is also a pain and I just end up reusing the same old one I've been using since I joined and recoloring it lol.
So I'd be happier about paying for tumblr if the experience were just a touch cleaner, faster. Oh, and not forgetting about PC users xP I know lots of people use their phone, I do too, it's convenient - but PC is just easier. Well, maybe for teens who can type on their phones at 50 mph it's no big deal. But I love love love my keyboard.
But anyway I paid it so I get a year without ads. Honestly I thought about it and $40 a year is what, ten cents a day? I really don't mind that. I wasn't really bothered by ads anymore since they've been scaled back, but now I can be bothered by them even less, so yay. OTOH, it looks like the subscription auto-renews, which I HATE. If so, I hope they send a warning email a few days before.
Oh and you know what else helped. I did a few youtube searches recently, and wanted to tear out my own hair over how frustrating it was. I just want a list of videos that relate to the subject of my search, not interspersed between "things I've seen before," "random shorts," "things that are similar," "things totally different that Youtube wants to show me anyway." And same thing on Google, Amazon, anywhere. I'm just so sick of it. So I'll fucking pay for fucking tumblr x'D Just work and not be annoying alright!!
I find it amusing that the moment I paid, I got a pop-up asking me to pay more to give ad-free to someone else. I might be more amenable when my pocketbook isn't smarting anymore 9_9
But this was funniest of all:
OK, I can't imagine ever doing it, but I suppose there's someone out there who thinks highly enough of the stuff that gets blazed to decide they want to continue seeing it even after spending $40 x'D But who is paying the fee and choosing show all ads? Please, is there anyone? I want to see a cryptid for myself.

...firstly OP, thank you for showing genuine kindness on this post. Like, a lot of folks in this position tend to be cruel and smug in a way that sets off my RSD and generally makes me feel personally loathed, and it's so, deeply refreshing to see someone who I feel like I can engage with on this topic in good faith without fear of getting publically yelled at and humiliated.
And to bring up in good faith, speaking as a USAmerican, I feel like I have my own hypothesis on why that sort of view you gripe about persists in my neck of the woods, that I may as well elaborate on, if only to ask your thoughts on whether or not I have something here?
Specifically, I feel like part of it is how our green movement's focus on aeceticism as a force of social change, and how it manifests in our current politics, has lead to that association with total deprivation rather than just having Less Of Some Things as you speak of, and as I'd probably be willing to live with if done right.
...Rest of the post past the break, this got long.
Like, a lot of people into degrowth say it's not austerity, and I believe them, but I do think a lot of it's shaped by an aecetic view. IE, the idea that having Less is a moral good in and of itself, and if mass adoption of this view were pushed by law it would conveniently reduce the ecological footprint and eliminate that material exploitation.
This becomes morally fucked in practice for reasons that become obvious if you've ever had to self-advocate as a disabled person or even cared about something that's been cut for "budget reasons," IE, that sort of mindset ends up really convenient for cutting things you don't personally care about or even hate.
Like, I see that especially in how a lot of people both in the ecological and anti-imperialist space talk about computers, with this dripping contempt and disgust for digital art and digital social spaces and the people who engage with them, and when those're the most prominent voices you see, I feel like it shapes how one perceives an anti-imperialist future as one of deprivation rather than "End the constant upgrade cycle/churn" or "Game consoles don't exist, they're comically redundant with PCs hardware-wise."
Or, for another more nitche example, I am a fan of action figures and toys as an artform. I am aware of how much of an ethical shitshow the current toy industry is, and have hypotheses for how one could do the form at scale in a way that's Not That*.
I do not trust a lot of ecosocialists in my country to even care because they think the artform is stupid and for manchildren, and if they could find a way to make it socially unacceptable to engage with to snuff it out, they would.
And that's before we get into how their voluntarily modeled "eco friendly" versions of goods are so often inadequate and low-quality, and how much they shit-talk the idea of variety and choice in and of themselves rather than the issue of how capitalism perverts them.
Or, hell, even their dim view of any sort of technical solution as "techno-fixes," which on one hand I get the fear of them being used to re-enforce capital's grip, but the more I hear them speak on them the more I get the feeling they think that technical solutions lead to bad material outcomes through some doctrine of moral impurity, because they've decided what is the Right Way To Live already.
Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like there's a wide gap between "You can't buy a new Iphone every year" and "A computerized portable wireless communication device/digital-multitool is totally unaffordable," speaking as someone who'd probably still be using the same smartphone they started out with over a decade ago if it were upgradeable/reasonably repairable.
Or, for a simple example, I feel like there's a vast gap of difference between "No bananas available year-round at the supermarket" and "You will likely never have an orange again," and I feel like the way our green movement has shaped it tends to convey the latter as an end goal in and of itself rather than a consequence of logistics.
And I feel like that has spillover in that it leads to the folks in my country (at least the ones who'd otherwise be potentially amenable and not the ones who're Lost Causes I mean) to end up reading interactions wrt this topic in bad faith, and they end up sounding like dickheads because they're presuming the wrong framework that; at least I presume from how you're talking; the other side is not working within or adopting.
And, if you find it weird that I'm talking more about the eco-side of things than the anti-imperialist side of things, it's because I feel like that eco-side has far more sway than that anti-imperalism in a way that the latter is subordinate to the former, to the detriment of both I'd argue.
TL/DR I feel like our eco-movement in the US pushes aeceticism in a way that makes the anti-imperialism tied to it sound like it's more deprivation-driven than it really is. So, is there anything there?
I feel like you'd probably have more insight than me, given you seem like you've read more theory than me, and I'd presume you'd have a better grasp on possibly elaborating on why the whole anticommunism/antisocialism pall hanging over us is why that sort of watered-down aecetic protestantism is so prominent there over more unapologetic leftism.
Like, I will say at the end of the day, god Gelderloos' "Solution to Global Warming" is stupid, and I hate Giorgios Kallis and I refuse to die on his stupid little boat...
*For clarity's sake, said hypotheses include a much larger 3d printing infrastructure for making made-to-order figures affordable, along with an increase in modular "blank" bodies for the former at the factory side of production, along with a greater emphasis on modular design systems like Lego or Glyos or Microman.
Love when I point out a problem with capitalism and people are like "oh so we should hate and shun technology and live like peasants" like living a good life is a sin we must atone to the God of Socialism by living in medieval villages. I say something like "climate change is bad" and they're like "then we must destroy all industry", I say something like "space exploration is good" and they're like "no only billionaries we must stay on earth", I say something like "electronics in the first world are artificially cheap by exploitation" and they literally, like right now, just said to me "have you heard of luddites they had good ideas".
It's never about dismantling current oppressive systems and building a better society, as socialism as the path to a communist society, it's always about getting punished. Because of your Sins.
You can teach Usamericans Marxism but you have to work triple time to unteach them Puritanism.
#again thank you op for being so kind about this#you didn't have to be but you were and that means a lot#politics#imperialism#capitalism#rambling#shut up titleknown

spoiler alert: i get SO off topic talking about other stuff. (if you cant tell i like talking. or well expressing my thoughts. anyway its 2 am i can use the excuse of impulse actions from lack of sleep)
i dont even know why im trying when obviously the next update is going to require even more storage and im going to have to drop it (its like 50 gb in actuality but it needs double to like. open it and do SHIt. i dont know this stuff man)
ahghgusihdfiufh (it was worse. ive. deleted a bunch of stuff that i dont play as much.
only games left are Star Rail (which im not dropping. ive poured so much time genuinely invested in story and characters idk what im gonna do when i run out of space to play. maybe cry.), Roblox (i genuinely dont know how much storage its taken, and I don't play it that much but LISTEn it fills a lot of game cravings that i cant play the source cause holy shit my storage.), Osu (the only game i can play without wifi.)
i wanna play the other games on mobile (i used to play star rail on mobile ngl LMFAO then realized 'hey this is fun' and moved to pc after genshin got too big. or maybe i had both at the same time i cant remember now ghreuigh) but uhm. the farthest i get in wuwa on mobile is like the opening loading screen before we see the rovers (it just stops there. even the music stops i think?? ive left it on and did other stuff but nothing happened and its either it wants me to wait super long, or theres just no hope) i did the tutorial for solo leveling arise on mobile but then trying to do literally anything else (like trying to access the menu) kicks me out of the game so then i had to move to pc. genuinely scary game first time around it shut down my pc, and even at lowest graphics kept warning me that 'for smoother gameplay you should have lower graphics' or something so fan on all the time (i have a fan pointed directly at my laptop.) and honestly. im not even that big of a fan of solo leveling why am i here (meilin fisher that is why. anyway i got her. so. shes not even an actual character outside the game??) ive literally only seen the anime and i forgot most of it😭
zzz on my phone is just black screen. it kicks me out. the farthest ive gotten is it asking if i want notifications but it still kicks me out
identity v i cant even download everything i think, i just have it to log in for pc. but uhm. i guess i cant anymore? but also i cant remember if i can still log in through other methods so uh its staying on mobile (to be fair i only got super into it cause of danganronpa collab so)
oh i found whatever it was that was taking 2 gb on desktop LMFAO
no wonder i was so confused on wtf it was
anyway. um. this is very much a shame. cause. i only get so invested in stories in games because im actually playing them. otherwise i cant guarantee im fully focused cause i get distracted so easily. um.
now about mobile storage and everything
uh. i have an iphone 6 pro. no idea if thats bad or not but uh. probably not that great. ? ? idk man idk how it compares to newer phones i want to get a new phone (at least for all the games i cant play on that phone) but then i got an iphone case cause my former one was actually cracked so... its staying (from the zzz website)
so its probably the phone in all honesty thats the issue (people were talking about who they wanted to play when starting the game and i got myself all hyped over ellen so. d'aww.)
and in the case its actually storage.. uh. tough luck. nu carnival is. a gacha game. and i got the character i wanted there, but its more convenient to go through like daily kinda stuff. ..also confession time if yk the difference uh. listen it was a hassle downloading it im not gonna delete it then have to reteach myself how tf to download it again because oh my god
twisted wonderland (aka disney tw LOL) is my OTHER fixation besides star rail. ive gone through all the story (including JP which i dont have cause i cant read it but fan translations for the win) + most event stories (i havent gone through anniversaries, new year sale 2024 JP, and like i think theres a crewel one rn..? or thats just the new card., tapis rouge, playful land, thats it). i love this game. so much.
if i told you ibis paint x used to take i think like so much more space because it still had the stuff since the VERY beginning... anyway idk what to use it for now but if i ever need to edit something...
kinemaster ^
i kinda already talked about identity v
bang dream. i LOVE rhythm games. and pretty designs. and vocaloid. and japanese songs.
in all honesty i lose interest in things so fast and drop them. then i get interested in other things, etc etc. and then i get back to a fixation on, say, rhythm games and wanting to play them a lot. then i can get bored and get interested in like. idk. life simulation(?) games like sims 4. or minecraft specifically the wynncraft server (which is like a fantasy thing..)
which is kind of why i have a bunch of stuff that i dont play often still because one day im gonna want to play it and then go back.
for laptop i just got rid of the games i wasnt interested in playing at the moment so. yeah
anyway if you cant tell i like talking about stuff. and justifying stuff (well its more like it started because i was worried to be judged. ive never been judged over what i like?? only like. once or twice?? that i can recall? but at one point i just started getting in the habit of justifying beforehand for everything after seeing the internet with their pitchforks directed at so many people so. yee.)
off topic. ive checked in on tiktok sometimes. and i just wanna say. how often is it that y'all get comments on old posts that are just variations of 'reminder' or 'remember this' ?? LISTEn the amount of comments that just say "reminder" and THATS IT (bro someone commented 'reminder' TWO times on the SAME post like DAMN. i mean they commented on someone else's comment on that post too with 'reminder' so probably trying to bother someone else but like wHY)
like. i mean. ive posted cringey shit hasnt everyone but it kinda feels like they're trying to shame people? like 'haha remember your past?'
maybe im sensitive. i mean. if this was past me i wouldve probably taken it to heart since yknow its still a work i created, but honestly now its just kinda funny
but idk if anyone else is being bothered by this (i mean. people generally go through old posts and delete ones they dont like right? i kinda dont do that so i mean. maybe yall are better off for that)
just wondering.

Note
I trust you, so sure, let's talk about it.
First, I want to draw a clear distinction between something that is fascist and something that is fascistic. FATAL is a clear example of a game that is openly and overly fascist. It exists for the sole purpose of advancing fascism.
Next, the definition of fascism I want to use for this discussion is something along the lines of "Ultra-conservative, race-state-capitalism." Any group of people who fall into this orbit I will consider fascists, and anything that intersects with it I will consider fascistic. The Nazis are fascists, but the US Confederates are as well with this framework even if they existed before fascism was penned as an ideology.
Something that is fascistic is something that shares characteristics with fascist media or ideology (usually unintentionally). The most common sources of a fascistic element in media comes from "maggots" which are tagalongs of a genre from the past that have terrible origins and are not fully examined in the genre itself. Fantasy is extremely vulnerable to maggots because of what it is.
An easy example of this is the D&D race system. Like, I don't think I need to explain why race is a ridiculous way to describe different "kinds" of people. Race science is the basis of fascist ideology, and D&D plays into the concept of race as if it was: a) real b) what they were even talking about in the game (they are describing species which is fine because there were multiple species of humans who coexisted for most of human history). This is not D&D's fault, and, no calling it "heritage" isn't enough because that's kicking the can down the road. What kind of heritage, WotC? What kind of heritage? Could it be... racial... heritage?
This is not D&D's fault, uniquely, but it is an obvious example of how Hasbro accepts fascistic framing without critically considering the origin of the central game mechanics that compose their game. They apply a liberal coat of paint to race science, either making the skin color of the people depicted more diverse, but this doesn't really address the fundamental problem.
What is D&D's fault uniquely is alignment. Moral objectivism isn't unique to fascism, but rejection of nuanced understandings of morality into a convenient and memeable morality chart feeds into a fundamentally conservative framework. Being able to neatly define us as good and/or lawful and them as evil and/or chaotic should be pretty obvious why that can lead to problems. When morality is used to justify violence (the gameplay element players are pushed towards the most), this conservative framing is transformed into justifying violence for the sake of lawfulness and goodness. Killing something that is evil, if the PC is good, is considered morally unquestionable by the framing of the game. This has some obvious and uncomfortable applications such as Orcs and Goblins who have historically been given a lot of traits from stereotypes of Indigenous Americans and Jews respectively.
There is also the separation between player characters and non-leveled NPCs. Being framed as inherently a hero and as powerful for simply existing is concerning rhetoric. Like, in most superhero stories there is usually some kind of explanation or context as to why the character can do things other people cannot. "People" exist in D&D as cartoonishly weak and frail creatures that can only survive the horrors of the outside world because of Adventurers fighting the BBEGs and whatnot. Non-leveled NPCs cannot meaningfully contribute to their own survival. This contributes to why murder-hoboing is such a common problem in D&D and not as much in other games which lack this clear narrative and mechanical divide between PCs and NPCs. Being morally, objectively good superhumans whose purpose is to plunder tombs and kill objectively evil people because we are among the good races of people... I mean. You know? It's a bit uncomfortable if you're familiar with fascism.
There's also the economy of D&D which doesn't reflect any economic system besides capitalism. Like, there is a narrative veneer of feudalism politically, but game doesn't introduce any of the economic realities of feudalism and instead just advances a "cash is king" solution to all economic situations. Which sounds like a dumb thing to say if the only economic system one has been exposed to or is familiar with is capitalism. Like, duh money is the solution to doing the economy, THAT'S WHAT THE ECONOMY IS but like no, not for the majority of human history. D&D does not consider engaging with economics outside the scope of what they are familiar with (capitalism). Which I get, but the default economic system is capitalism in D&D and that is something conservatives love. "Do not consider alternative economic models--capitalism is inherent to the human condition" kind of thinking. Performing violence at the behest of capitalism as the only entities with any real power (adventurers) is a fascistic framework. Don't believe me? You might want to do some research of the Japanese occupation of Manchuria between the years 1931 and 1945. In a D&D world, leveled characters of a certain status become The State in terms of who has the capacity to administer "ethical" violence. Being an adventurer is weirdly kind of a racial category of its own, maybe even more so than the coincidentally, although unhelpfully named, "races." Thus by around 8th level, a D&D party is performing State violence at the behest of a morally objective universe in order to propagate capitalism as a superhuman breed of mankind. It's uncomfortable. At the very least, it makes me uncomfortable. I made my own game partly to detangle a lot of this mess and play with player expectations of what a fantasy game expects from them.
I know that these can be handwaved by a barrage of details in the setting or through DM agency to use the game to not tell those kinds of stories. Yes, mind flayers are "evil" okay, I'm not an idiot. My point is that the structure of the game via its mechanics maintain numerous and unexamined, ultra-conservative frameworks that make it very easy for fascists to draw people into their orbit. Nazis LOVE D&D. They do so because it is a useful tool to draw in dumb teenagers with "shared values." "You like D&D, but don't you HATE all that DEI nonsense that Wizards of the Coast are doing to YOUR hobby?" It's a pretty easy pitch because D&D shares a lot of common ground with fascists.
As a thing, the person in this thread who commented on studying me like a mental patient has openly supported fascism on their Tumblr page as well as sharing tweets of Candace Owens about trans people inherently being pedophiles, so I blocked them.
If you or anyone else wants to talk more about this kind of thing in detail, that's fine. I'm explaining my position here, but I don't really want to argue with anyone about this. I'm too old and tired to argue with people on the internet--well meaning or otherwise. I'm sorry to thydungeongal for bringing up fascism. My bad. I think it's relevant to Elon buying Hasbro SPECIFICALLY to access D&D.
Like, he's not trying to buy Evil Hat Productions for Thirsty Sword Lesbians, you know lol.
Musk apparently is considering the idea of buying hasbro to secure the rights to dnd. Thoughts?
I think it would be really funny if Musk managed to do to D&D what not a single "play another game" warrior could only ever dream of,

if it was just a choice between which machine i'd prefer to play the game on and nothing else, i'd genuinely pick my xbox over my pc nearly all the time. it's made for games and it's quiet and it turns on/off quickly. there's just the itty bitty issue of a shit load of reasons why i just cant
library - my steam lib is actually fairly heafty now, so i simply have so many more games that i can just play on it compared to my xbox. this includes expanding my lib as well! no one seems to try to compete with steam's sales, and idk why! it's not like these games cost anything to sell per unit, just do more sales and maybe people would buy more man. oh yea, and there no game i can play on xbox but not on pc, but many the other way around, so i need a pc to play everything anyway
online - why in fucks name does xbox still charge for online stuff. like if i want to see other's people's messages in elden ring i either need to pay £7 a month or i could just buy the game again on sale once and have other benefits (eg steam deck play) on top of the online just fucking working. it's genuinely kinda a big blocker for getting into the platform, especially when so many games rely on multiplayer features now
friend(s) - i have very few people i play with, but the ones i do are all pc-based. i've tried doing cross-play with no man's sky, but that was fairly unique in that very few games support it like that (with friends and not just matchmaking). generally, if i want to play with someone i'll need to play on pc anyway. oh, and get fucked it you actually want to talk. i think discord works now but i dont remember if i ever got it working or not
headphones - despite playing on my tv, i really like wearing headphones when playing something. it just brings me into the game that bit more and removes enough distractions to make me actually play properly (nd is a bitch). have you tried using headphones on an xbox before? dont it wont work because it doesnt support any kind of usb and i dont want to have to re-pair bluetooth constantly, so it just generally sucks
steam deck - this is actually the main reason i dont want to get new games on my xbox. if i get a game thru steam, i can just install it on my steam deck and play that shit without having to be tied down physically to my sofa. yea, maybe i wouldnt often, but being able to have that choice means a lot to me, and if i dont now it feels like shits worse
there isn't a point here im just complaining that the smaller, quieter, more convenient gaming device is less good
#lizabeth talkabeth#xbox#pc#video games#tbf i build my current pc myself very recently so#but that's mostly because i wanted to play act 3 of baldur's gate without lag

...With Gettyimages and Adobe; two of the most scummy companies in their fields; bringing out their own paywalled AI trained on "ethical data," (IE, officially licensed from the mountains they own) I hope we can use this opportunity to step back and stop talking about the AI art debate in terms of copyright and "theft" and more in terms of corporate exploitation and labor rights.
Because, like, the results will be the same with regards to jobs if megacorps end up using Adobe's or Getty's model in the way they'd use; say; Stablediffusion and Midjourney; without a labor pushback they'd still use it to kill jobs.
And even with the "compensation system" they talk about, which they'll conveniently use as an excuse to keep it paywalled and closed-source, I bet you my bottom dollar they're talking about a Spotify-type model. Which, if you're familiar with the music industry, you do not want a Spotify-type model.
The difference is, if Stablediffusion gets sued out of existence, you won't be able to access the tool without a paywall. And both Adobe and Getty Images have very high paywalls.
Whereas Stablediffusion, by contrast, is very much open-source and free. A lot of people run it independently online for anyone to use and if you have a PC that can run it, you can use it offline; no strings attached. Which means you can do it and tweak it as you wish, doubly so if you already have art skills.
And it's awfully suspicious in this state that Getty is in a lawsuit to try and kill SD over the "stealing" claims in a way that would leave their product as a paywalled monopoly at their whims with no Open Source alternatives.
Like... at the very least don't get played by their talk of "ethics," because even if they're licensed, in my eyes they're far less ethical than SD I'd assert, due to creating a precedent for putting this technology behind a corporate walled garden in a way that keeps other creators from using it while still killing traditional artist jobs dead if we don't push back as a collective labor force.
