Quick reminder that you don't need a solid sexuality! You can just be in love! Or not be in love! Or have a gender! Labels are a choice, not a requirement. All you need to do is be someone you like being! If labels help with that, great! But they are not required. You don't owe it to anyone, so don't feel pressured to choose labels if they aren't your thing!

You guys really liked my Nimona mom post so I just wanted to share a bit about her, particularly because it’s pride month. 

My mom has maybe the funniest oscillations I’ve ever seen when it comes to queerness. She’ll say she’s uncomfortable with gay couples on TV and then openly cry about Hanyang and Jiwon in Prison Playbook. She’ll say she doesn’t understand “the pronouns thing” but makes a point to carefully ask for my friends’ pronouns and use them correctly (she even asked me to teach her how). She’ll say she doesn’t understand trans people or why anyone would want to change genders, and then randomly say “Allie Beardsley looks very masculine when his hair is blonde, he should dye it again.”

For a long time after I came out as aroace, she continued to say “you’ll find the right guy” or “he’s cute! Bring one home please,” when seeing an attractive guy on TV. The other day I heard her begin “bring one—“ before cutting herself off and saying “for ME!” And then she gave me a really significant smile. 

Anyways, the point is that she’s not 100% there yet but she’s trying really fucking hard and seeing her actively try to unwire a lifetime of conditioning in her own way makes me thankful every day. I’m still not out as nonbinary to her, and idk if we’ll ever have that conversation—but I have hope that someday we will.

and stop saying "afab nonbinary" and "amab nonbinary" because we all know you're just treating us like "female" and "male" which, yk is the exact opposite of what nonbinary is meant to be.
