Thanks to the reveal of TWST's new Halloween event, I had brain worms to deliver you something new from me! An ADeuce AU fanfic teaser/concept/WIP. I hope you all enjoy it and let me know what you think!

Steaking out the world's most prominent circus hadn't been Deuce's best idea in a while. Even less so when he considers the fact that one of the circus performers, who simply went by the alias "Jack Heart", decided that he would become his unasked-for partner in his investigation.

"So. You're looking for... what exactly?" asked Jack Heart, sweeping the dust off of his single-shoulder cape, the lovely red and gold shining off from the florescent bulbs of the lights. Deuce adjusted his own cape, giving an unamused look at the other.

"I'm looking for clues," he stated, matter of fact. His companion nodded back, raising an eyebrow that gave emotion to his oddly emotionless face, "And... what else? You can't just say we're looking for clues with no other indication of what you want to find."

Not what. Who.

If Jack Heart could help him find Ace, that would be the real deal. If Jack Heart helped him find a direction, he'd take it. He had a member of this weird circus act on his side, for now, and he had to take advantage of that chance.

If Jack Heart did all this to turn him in that man- that freak with the devilish smirk and a cocky grin and his little sidekick, then Deuce would not hesitate to deck this man in the face. He'd take Ace and run, Jack Heart be damned.

Deuce glared at him, before sighing, "I want to look behind the scenes. I wanna see what your boss- that circus manager- is doing. I want to see where my friend is."

Jack Heart made an "ah" noise, and snapped his finger, "Well, he picks up a lot of people, Fellow Honest does. Tell me your friend's name."

Deuce hesitated at that, eyeing the other, "... I think I'll keep it to myself, thanks."

Jack Heart crossed his arms, the tassels on his outfit swaying dully with the motion, "Look. I can't help you unless you tell me things. Unless you just don't trust me."

"I don't. If you really wanna help me, I want you to prove it." He said, boldly. The redhead gave a dull look, "... Prove myself to help you go against my boss. Wow. You really are a punk, Juice."

"It's Deuce! And I'm not a punk!" Deuce yelled at him, making the other only to once again raise his eyebrow and gesture at him, "And you're shouting."

Deuce wanted to deck this guy in his smug mouth. As well as these freakish performers could dance and move, they seemed to have an issue with emoting properly.

"Ugh, if you don't wanna help me, then fine! I'll find my own way around, maybe I can ask your two friends if they'll help- woah!" When Deuce pivoted to march away and cool down from his empty threat, he had no time to do so. Jack Heart grabbed onto his hand, twirling him around and pressing close so that the brims of their hats touched.

Deuce stared, stunned into the empty yet light eyes of Jack Heart. He knew those eyes were like Ace's, his childhood friend had bright red eyes that glimmered when he and Deuce played games or pranked him.

The red-clad performer squeezed his hand and began to sway them, in tandem with the music playing within the large tent, "You want to find your friend. I want some life for once in this circus. What do I need to do to convince you to keep me with you?"

His gloved hand felt warm, not just from his own heat, but from the oddly comforting warmth of the other. He hasn't held anyone's hand since his mother. And before her... Ace.

"... Tell me something," Deuce said, moving clumsily along with Jack Heart's movements, speaking quietly so only they could hear the words, "What does someone have to do, to get kidnapped by this circus?" Jack Heart swept them both along, a flurry of red, blue, black, gold, and white as they moved quietly within the quiet areas behind the large circus tent.

"Well... Before my boss became the circus manager, it was all naughty children." He said, and at Deuce's confused look, he explained, "The kinds that skip school. That don't listen to their parents. The kind that plays pranks and gets into trouble despite all the good advice they get. They got taken away by the circus and made to perform since they liked to have fun."

He clutched onto the other hand that held his tighter. Sure he and Ace were troublesome like that, but they were kids. They never did anything that extreme.

(He blocked out the times after losing Ace. The missing persons report turning cold. Deuce's own lashing out at authority, his own mother, and Ace's family. He was angry and upset and refused to listen. He was a punk. The worst kind, one who was made from angry grief and lack of closure.)

"A-and from... when I was young? What would happen if someone got picked by your boss?" He asked, looking at Jack Heart imploringly. The other was quiet, only swaying a little more before wrapping an arm around Deuce's back and lowering him into a dip, forcing him to grip onto the others shoulder.

"... If there's a dream to be a star, Fellow Honest would make it come true. At the cost of taking you away from all you hold dear," he said. pulling Deuce back up.

"Now, how's that for your trust?" The performer asked. Deuce was quiet before nodding, "Yeah... that checks out." Jack Heart gave a small smile then, and Deuce felt struck by how the smile appeared to him. "We got work to do, Deuce."

Deuce said nothing, only walking close to the other as his arm was wrapped by Jack Heart's arm.

Yuu as Mabel Pines

Ace Trappola

"Wait—you bedazzled my broom!? Why do I kinda love it..." At first, Ace finds Yuu’s Mabel-esque antics annoying. The glitter? The endless supply of sweaters? The puppet shows? Cringe! But slowly he realizes that Mabel-Yuu makes life in NRC more fun. They hype him up, draw him silly comic strips about “Cool Bro Ace,” and constantly drag him into schemes with confidence and flair. He plays the straight man to their eccentricity, but he secretly loves being the center of their wild little world.

Quote: “You’re like… if chaos was dipped in glue and rolled in glitter. It’s kinda terrifying. But I’m into it?”

Deuce Spade

"You want me to wear… a sequin tuxedo for your talent show? Uh… sure! If it’ll make you smile!" Deuce is confused by Mabel-Yuu’s boundless energy but deeply admires their kindness. They’re the first to encourage his delinquent-to-honor-student journey, even making “Deuce’s Good Boy Chart” with glitter stars. He’s a little overwhelmed by their hugs, sparkles, and random emotional speeches—but he’ll protect them with his life.

Quote: “They’re a little strange… but in a good way! I think they bring out my brave side…”

Jack Howl

"You’re painting flowers on my tail…? Sigh. Fine. But just this once.” Jack tries to act like he’s above the Mabel madness, but he has a soft spot for Yuu’s loud sincerity. He admires how they always express their emotions—something he struggles with. Though her fashion ideas make him grumble and blush (she once knitted him a “Desert Doggo” sweater), he finds himself relaxing around them.

Quote: “Tch… they’re weird. But they’ve got a big heart. I respect that.”

Epel Felmier

"You turned my potion lab into a sparkle spa?! You’re wild! I love it!" Epel adores Mabel-Yuu. Their chaos encourages his own rebellious side, and he loves their no-filter attitude. They often form prank teams, start random craft projects, and host “glam-cowboy cosplay nights.” Mabel-Yuu brings out his inner child while still making him feel cool.

Quote: “They’re like a sugar rush—loud, weird, and just what this school needed.”

Ortho Shroud

"Yuu-nee, I added neon lights to your sweater cannon! Wanna test it?" Ortho is instantly fascinated by Mabel-Yuu’s creativity. He often joins in on their “nonsense,” upgrading her sweater-making machine into a fully AI-powered Sweater-Meister 3000. He loves her affectionate nature and colorful personality and sees her as someone who brings light into Idia’s gloomy world.

Quote: “They’re like a walking rainbow, full of unpredictable algorithms—and I think that’s awesome!”

Sebek Zigvolt

"Y-You covered my uniform in stickers! REMOVE THEM IMMEDIATELY—wait, is that one of Lilia-sama!?" Sebek does not know how to deal with someone like Mabel-Yuu. He’s loud. They’re louder. He yells about Malleus-sama. They’re giving him a hug and calling him “Mr. Tsundere.” Still… something about their genuine affection and fearless nature reminds him of Lilia. They bicker constantly, but there’s a weird sense of loyalty forming.

Quote: “Foolish human! I—I mean—thank you for the ‘Best Knight’ sweater… but DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN!”

Yuu as Dipper Pines

Ace Trappola

"You brought a whole conspiracy board to class! I love that chaos." Ace finds Dipper-Yuu fascinating. They’re serious, always writing in their journal, always finding secrets around NRC. He teases them a lot about being a “cryptid geek,” but he’s the first to follow them into dangerous investigations. Secretly, he thinks they’re way cooler than he is.

Quote: “They’re like the nerd version of a main character. Kind of impressive, not gonna lie.”

Deuce Spade

"You think the statue in the courtyard might be a cursed guardian? Let’s investigate!" Deuce deeply admires Dipper-Yuu’s curiosity and intellect. They always have a theory or plan, and he often helps them solve the mysteries of Twisted Wonderland—even if it means sneaking into restricted areas. They balance each other: Yuu is the brain, he’s the brawn.

Quote: “They’re like a detective, and I’m their loyal assistant! We make a great team.”

Jack Howl

"I like that they don’t back down from the truth. That’s real strength." Jack respects Dipper-Yuu immensely. They’re focused, honest, and brave even when scared. They remind him of lone wolves—independent, but loyal to their pack. He doesn’t always understand the nerd talk, but he’ll always back Yuu up in a tough spot.

Quote: “They overthink too much, but they’ve got guts. I trust them.”

Epel Felmier

"So you think the Dorm Leaders are cursed ancient spirits!? That’s so cool!" Epel loves Dipper-Yuu’s weird theories and adventures. He often tags along just for the thrill. Yuu’s seriousness helps Epel think more strategically, while his rebellious spirit encourages them to break more rules. They’re both outsiders trying to carve their place.

Quote: “They’re a bit uptight, but they’ve got guts. And I like their crazy brain.”

Ortho Shroud

"I’ve analyzed your journal! It’s like a living mystery log!" Ortho is fascinated by Dipper-Yuu’s mind. He frequently helps digitize their research and uses his tech to assist their investigations. Ortho genuinely admires their drive to uncover truth and thinks of them as an honorary researcher. Sometimes, he even calls them “Dipper-Nii.”

Quote: “Their logic is solid. And their passion? Borderline heroic!”

Sebek Zigvolt

"Ahem! Do not sneak into restricted tombs again—wait, what did you find!?" Sebek finds Dipper-Yuu incredibly frustrating. They're reckless, too curious for their own good, and keep getting into danger! But… he respects their drive to protect others and understands their dedication. Over time, he sees them as a worthy companion—even if he complains the whole time.

Quote: “You are a foolish mortal! But… oddly commendable. Hmph.”

mumbo is pushing his index fingers together nervously. he’s a catfish hybrid and his suit has been ripped at the legs. he has whiskers coming from his head and his mustache, his limbs are tipped in brown or gray, and he has extra fins in place of his ears and near his ankles. next to him is a side profile doodle of his tail labeled “tail.”

as for the new darkner, it seems like they're visually based on the chinese character their name is a pun on — 鬼. i'm wondering if the object they are is related to writing in some way, given that a lot of the other darkners are visually based on what they are in a literal sense (spades king is shaped like a spade as is lancer, queen has a computer mouse for a head, sweet cap'n cakes are all music players, ect.) it would make sense for a writing-inspired darkner to be based on a literal written character. there's also the obvious ghost aspect, what with the meaning of the character itself and the exorcism pun, but i feel that's more like how the tasques are cats or how spamton is a puppet. meaningful, but not so literal as to be what they are as objects in the light world. (though i suppose that means this could all be applied in reverse, and the ghost aspect is what the object is after all..?)

Rook's nicknames and some small explanations

Ramshackle

Yuu/Player - Trickster. I made a whole post on how us being called Trickster due to our connection with Mickey.

Grim - JP: Monsieur Kemakujara (Thick Fur)/ EN: Monsieur Peluche (Plush). Grim's nickname derives from the fact he is furry and soft.

Heartslabyul

Riddle - Roi des Roses. Riddle's nickname means King of Roses. All Dorm Leaders/Housewardens seem to have "Roi" which is French for King as part of their nickname.

Trey - JP: Bara no chevalier/ EN: Chevalier des Roses. Both forms translate to "Knight of Roses". Given Trey's whole thing in Book 1 is to try and protect not just the Heartslabyul students, but also Riddle himself, makes sense why he's the Knight of Roses.

Cater - Monsieur Magicam. This is pretty self explanatory, but Cater's nickname comes from his consistent posting to Magicam.

Ace - Monsieur Heart. Ace's card suit in Heartslabyul is a Heart, so Mr. Heart is pretty self explanatory.

Deuce - Monsieur Spade. Like with Ace, Deuce's nickname comes from his card suit in Heartslabyul.

Leona - Roi des Lions. Leona's nickname means King of Lions.

Ruggle - JP: Monsieur Tanpopo (Dandelion)/EN: Monsieur Dent-de-Lion. We get an explanation from Rook about this in Book 5. Ruggie's food money had run low as students are required to provide their own monthly food budget, so he was looking for dandelions in the sports field to eat so he wouldn't go hungry. Dent-de-Lion is the French word where we get the word Dandelion and it also means Tooth of Lion.

Jack - JP: Monsieur Tough Guy/EN: Monsieur Fier-a-bras (Braggart). This is likely tied to the tough guy facade Jack often puts up trying to be a lone wolf.

Octavinelle

Azul - Roi du Fort/Roi de l'Effort. This means King of Effort.

Jade - JP: Monsieur Keikaku-han/EN: Monsieur Premedite. Keikaku-han is a premeditated crime and Premedite means Premeditated.

Floyd - JP: Monsieur Yukai-han/EN: Monsieur Spontane. Yukai-han is a crime committed to enjoy the chaos/commotion that comes after, while Spontane means Spontaneous.

Kalim - Roi Dore. Kalim's nickname is supposed to be Golden King or King of Gold, likely the latter.

Jamil - JP: Monsieur Multi/EN: Monsieur Pyramide. Jamil's JP nickname likely refers to his versatility of tasks he fulfills for Kalim, while his EN nickname is more driven by the fact Pyramids are supposed to guard the kings that are entombed inside.

Pomefiore

Vil - Roi du Poison. This means King of Poison.

Epel - JP: Monsieur Hime-Ringo (Crab Apple)/EN: Monsieur Pommette. Hime Ringo is a pun because it is the word for Crab Apple (referring to Epel's temper) but it also means Princess Apple (referring to Epel's effeminate looks). Pommette is like the apple of the cheek.

Himself - Le Chasseur d'Amour. This means Hunter of Love.

Ignihyde

Idia - JP: Roi de ta Chambre/EN: Roi de sa Chambre. This is King of One's Own Room/King of His Own Room. It's tied to how Idia is a recluse who rare leaves his own room.

Ortho - (Pre Book 6) JP: Monsieur Oningyou (Doll)/EN: Monsieur Marionette. (Post Book 6) Monsieur Wonder. Ortho's first nickname is due to the fact he's a robot which could be considered an advanced form of doll or puppet, but when he gets his own free will, Rook changes his name to Monsieur Wonder due to the miracle of Ortho becoming "human" in a sense.

Diasomnia

Malleus - Roi des Dragons. This means King of Dragons.

Lilia - JP: Monsieur Koukishin (Curiousity)/EN: Monsieur Curiosite. Both mean Mr. Curiousity, which given Lilia isn't very forthcoming about himself, makes sense.

Silver - JP: Monsieur Onebou (Sleepyhead)/EN: Monsieur Endormi. These refer to the fact that Silver can't stay awake.

Sebek - Monsieur Crocodile. Sebek's fae heritage from his mom is a crocodile fae. This is pretty confirmed given Baul/Baur moved from Sunset Savannah to Briar Land which would later become Briar Valley.

Neige - Roi de Neiges. This means King of Snow/King of White Snow.

I’m not going to lie, I had hoped we’d be able to fight the other students in a puppet form in the Playful Land event but alas…

I also wanted things to go in a slightly different direction for it too. But the outfits are fun if not the usual Gacha-type finickiness.

I love that Slick's clearly still living in the low-stakes world of the Intermission. He doesn't know or care about demons, cueballs or First Guardians. All he sees is the Felt's number two - and he knows exactly how to deal with a rival gang.

Jack. Slick? Which would you prefer I call you? It's one of the strange points of uncertainty which surrounds you. Maybe it is that you don't particularly care. [...] Not going to tell me? Fine, I won't tell you my name either. Well, I might. If you would just show some manners and stop hitting me with that ridiculous horse hitcher. I won't crack no matter how senseless the drubbing.

I do not want to see that cueball crack. You just know Lil Cal's head is hiding right underneath.

Scratch must be planning to sic Spades on his former Queen, in order to trigger English's summoning ritual. I don’t know why he doesn’t just kill her himself, but maybe First Guardians aren’t allowed to attack their own universes. That's certainly a safeguard I'd install, If I were designing an omnipotent, free-willed game character.

To be honest, I think Doc might have some trouble convincing Slick to kill Snowman. I mean, sure, he hates her, and certainly wants her dead - but he had the opportunity to kill her in the Intermission, and ceased gunplay like everyone else. He probably knew that killing her in Alternia's universe would kill him, too.

Maybe that's Scratch's plan - he's going to give Slick a way to kill Snowman from outside her metaphysical blast radius. Perhaps he has a way for Slick to attack her from the Furthest Ring?

Do you have anything at all to say? Any form of communication you care to attempt beyond the sound iron makes against my head repeatedly? No, of course not.
