this is partially a repost of a tiktok series i did like two years ago, partially inspired that the high republic fanzine is out and references this!, and partially me expanding on thoughts as a former barista.

anyways, THR phase I characters and their coffee orders. i'll probably forget someone and add them later. my expertise: i was a barista for three years.

no I'm not calling it caf this is all half a joke anyways

Avar Kriss: Typically she just gets a coffee with cream. She can drink coffee black, but it's not her preference. Her actual favorite drink is a vanilla white mocha, but she rarely orders this for herself because she's a busy gal ! (Stellan, Elzar, Maru, and the Ataraxia crew have all clocked this.)

Stellan: he's the tea guy of the firebrands. Loves an english breakfast tea with milk in the morning. Loves a basic green tea in the afternoon. He has a chamomile tea usually as part of his evening meditation. However, after he joins the Council, he begins drinking more and more black and green tea and discards his evening tea routine as he gets more and more overworked.

Elzar: disaster man gets a large iced americano (six shots at the shop I worked at), adds two shots, chugs it immediately. This stresses everyone out.

Reath and Cohmac: they ask so many questions. where did you source your matcha from? Who is their milk supplier? Are the syrups made in house? Do they dry their own petals? They're not trying to be jerks, they're genuinely and actually curious, but the baristas are underpaid and never know answers, Cohmac and Reath realize, they order two small hot matchas and tip 100%.

Orla: medium iced coffee with vanilla syrup, but she never has once paid for her drink because her vibes are so elite. The other regular customers lover her, the baristas love her, she's just a goddamn delight.

Sskeer: hot tea or iced tea, depends on the weather. honey with hot tea; simple syrup with iced tea, just enough to cut some of the herbal notes.

Keeve: double undercut icon Keeve Trennis is the token bisexual iced oat milk latte with lavender, argue with the wall.

Jora: classic hot mom drink, hot coffee with 2 cream and 2 sugars.

Affie: all of the Vessel crew is so used to, like, Star Wars-Folgers-Instant Coffee, so when they get to go to a coffee shop, they Splurge for their Little Treats. Affie loves a caramel frozen coffee with extra whipped cream and drizzle.

Leox: blended matcha ! Like Orla, he's never once paid for a drink. Vibes are too good. He thinks he's paid, but Geode pockets the cash.

Geode: gets the most obscene drink imaginable that the baristas detest making but is such a lovely customer that the staff can't hold it against him.

Maru: if he stoops so low as to buy a tea and not make it himself, he gets a large hot black tea, double bagged. steeps it obscenely long so it's basically a concentrate, everyone is mystified.

Lina Soh: hasn't made her own coffee in years, but her staff orders her almond milk cafe au laits with honey.

Sylvestri: iced caramel macchiato and she likes it layered, okay !!!

Jordanna: iced white mocha. ssssh. she's kinda guilty about it but isn't really sure why.

Buckets: hot chai latte with oat milk and pistachio syrup. (legit try it sometime, if your shop has this, it's so fucking good.)

Lula: iced coffee with oatmilk and she changes the flavor based on the season/mood she's in. this is absolutely an order she's copied from kantam.

Kantam: see above.

Zeen: hot vanilla latte with oatmilk, asks for it extra frothy.

Ram: mocha blended coffee with extra caramel and chocolate drizzle. literally of course.

Farzala: has never once ordered the same thing twice. who knows.

Qort: Just goes "whatever you want!" every time. His actual favorite is a hot chocolate but wants to be easy and simple!

Samira: The classic hot bitch drink: hot latte with skim milk and a raw sugar. Typically people who order this drink are awful, but she used to work in food service before coming up in the political staff scene, so she's perfectly polite and cheerful.

Avon: tries to impress upon people that she's an adult and important and gets a coffee with milk. Secretly hates it. Vern typically gets her an iced black tea with lemon and simple syrup like "oh they gave it to me!" Avon lets it slide because it's Vern.

Vern: her coffee shop habits were impressed upon her by Stellan and doesn't drink any coffee, mostly tea. Her favorite is Lady Grey, and if it's a time to indulge, adds cream and lavender syrup.

Imri: that's a hot choccy boy.

Crash: has never once ordered in a coffee shop. That's a Red Bull girlie.

Xylan: has a bullshit order. large iced coffee, fill the cup with ice fully, 2/3 full of coffee, add exactly 3.5 pumps of simple syrup, then equal splashes of oat milk and almond milk. Stir 7 times clockwise, then four times counter clockwise. somehow the staff don't revolt because he's a guilty pleasure fav customer and not a single barista can describe why they like him. one barista is convinced that xylan doesn't have a single fucking clue what he's talking about and just makes it standard. xylan can tell the difference but he can't point to where so he swallows it because he admires the bravery of the barista to flummox him.

Okay I haven't finished anything for this in a while I admit, but I wanted to draw more of that unicorn who gets attacked in the first post, so here's some art! I'm calling them Sparkburn because of their magic being fire-related, primarily used for cooking. Bit of a simple name but they're a background character and i didn't wanna think on it too long, so.

Putting it under a cut because it's very intentionally kinda nasty, no gore or blood but fungus and spores are involved and essentially a zombie pony.

wasn't sure about the colors, but i figure since they're kinda.. yknow, a zombie, technically, they're most likely duller and their fur is probably much darker than normal, so i went with it for a first draft at least figuring i can change it later.

Looking back on this I don't love the colors at all, the cutie mark especially, so i think I'll change it, but perhaps the spores change the pigments in the fur and corrupts the magic in a pony, therefore changing the cutie mark as well.

Defy the Storm might be my favorite Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland co-written book and is instantly one of my favorite High Republic books! beautiful balance of attention to different characters, complex and layered characterization, setting multiple potential seeds for future stories, just a wonderful book that i've already reread! favorite character of the book: Vernestra Rwoh, she never fails to capture my heart with her slow-burning arc that started with her on top of her game favorite *new* character: Cair San Tekka, i love the San Tekkas and their rivalry with the Grafs so i was excited for this one!

Can do shit that even a Jedi looks at and think "I dunno if I could pull that off"

Lots of trauma from being the sole protector of her community, but she's working on it.

She gives the Nihil exactly what they deserve: gratuitous violence

Seriously the Nihil are some of the worst villains in Star Wars. At least the Empire can claim they believe they are making a better galaxy. Even if the reality is far from that. At least some criminals in the universe can claim they come from nothing or from backgrounds where violence is the norm. And that falling into a life of crime was the easy. The Nihil though? They just don't like being told what to do. They are throwing a temper tantrum with a bodycount in the millions. Possibly billions. They totally deserve being being eviscerated by a weapon they gleefully used on others.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 2): General Bracket Match 21

Sinjir Rath Velus | Identity: gay | Media: Aftermath Trilogy

Ignoring Moff Moors, Sinjir is tied with Esmelle and Shirene for being the first queer character in the New EU. And unlike those two, he is a major character. He was abused by his mother and then the ISB training process. An ISB loyalty officer, he was stationed on the Endor shield generator, where he nope-d out and attempted to become a regular civilian. An alcoholic, he found himself on Akiva, where he was pulled into helping Norra Wexley, her son Temmin, and the bounty hunter Jas Emari drive the Empire off the planet. Afterwards, he decided to make up for his time with the Empire by joining a New Republic war criminal hunting squad with the rest of the Aftermath novel’s ensemble cast. He began dating New Republic slicer Conder Kyl, but due to his alcoholism and trauma, their relationship was rocky. His team helped Han Solo in an unauthorized mission to liberate Kashyyyk. Afterwards, considering himself unworthy, he broke up with Conder. After the Liberation Day attacks, he joined Norra and her team in attempting to hunt down Rae Sloane. They tracked her to the planet Jakku, where the Imperial fleet was massing. After sending Norra, Jas, and Mister Bones down to the planet, Sinjir and Temmin returned to Chandrilla to convince the New Republic to launch an attack against Jakku. Sinjir got pulled into the political shenanigans necessary to get the resolution to pass, where he had to go crawling back to Conder and beg him for help. After Conder’s life was threatened in the process, Sinjir realized he couldn’t stay away from Conder. With his found family, he was able to become sober. He was recruited by Mon Mothma to become her aide. He and Conder got married after the end of the war.

Sinjir was snarky and cynical, in part as a defense mechanism and the result of his alcoholism. But even after he got better, he was still a silly guy. As a former loyalty officer, he was skilled in intrigue and intelligence, as well as self-defense. After a lifetime serving the Empire, even though he wanted to help the New Republic, he rankled at still just following what a government tells him to do- hence all the unauthorized missions. Mon Mothma recruited him because she needed a cynic and someone who could play the game. He was very close with Jas Emari, essentially platonic soulmates.

Jordanna Sparkburn is a member of a cadet branch of the wealthy San Tekka family. She was born on the frontier planet of Tikkae, which was a San Tekka holding. She grew up with the expectation of succeeding her aunt as the San Tekka deputy of the planet. In the year before the Great Hyperspace Disaster, she fell in love with Sylvestri Yarrow, the daughter of a hauler who was spending time on the planet. When it was time for Sylvestri to rejoin her mother, she offered for Jordanna to join her. Not wanting to abandon her duty, she declined and they separated on poor terms. Later, when the Nihil attacked and destroyed Tikkae, she joined the Jedi Imri Canatas, Cohmac Vitus, Reath Silas, and Vernestra Rwoh to travel to Coruscant where she could get into contact with the San Teka family. The San Tekka family sent her to accompany a Senate investigation into the Berenge Sector, which used to be owned by the San Tekkas. This investigation included the four Jedi she had already met, Xylan Graf, and her ex- Sylvestri. Xylan believed that the Berenge Sector was being used for Nihil experimentation into a Mass Shadow Generator, which Slyvestri’s mother was helping them build. In the course of all the intrigue and danger in Out of the Shadows, Sylvestri and Jordanna work through the bad feelings they separated on. After the events of the novel, now that Jordanna had no posting, she decides to join Sylvestri and they set off on their new ship to see what jobs Maz Kanata has for them.
