Okay, so this is not something I want or ever thought I would have to write, but in light of the evidence that's been produced I think it is important to spread this information around: Several members of Jackpot, the competitive team that won the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024, and one member of the extremely prolific team Starburst, have been outed as virulently racist. This has been documented in a thread on twitter, which can be seen here if you would like to see the proof for yourself, though tw: for some pretty blatant, unrepentant racism.

I will not mince words here, it is not my place to do so, but needless to say this is extremely disappointing news and is something that will reflect very poorly on our community for a long time and could potentially even have damaging effects on the competitive scene's relationship with Nintendo themselves. I have deleted or altered every post I have made mentioning Jackpot (to my knowledge), and will not mention them or their in-game banner in the future.

I do not want or intend on making these kinds of posts in the future. The competitive Splatoon fandom and the tumblr Splatoon fandom does not seem to overlap a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised if for some of you this is the first time you've heard of these people, but this is a special case in that the people implicated are extremely high-profile, to the point that they are in the game directly.

I ask that you treat this situation with the maturity and respect deserved by the ones who have been hurt by these people's actions.
