If a person has been called ‘fucked up’ for doing, being, existing a certain way, there’s a powerful urge to call other people fucked up for NOT doing, being, existing like that. The YOUR fursona is cringe response. That’s complicated in the case of asexuality specifically and aspec identity in general, because the Societal Apparatus (mostly) (in general) has an existing function that is calling people fucked up for both having sex and not having it.
So asexuality exists in this grey zone where sex and monogamous sexual partnership is baked into every aspect of living and dying, where it’s unavoidable and omnipresent, where it’s forced and enforced, but where it’s also unspeakable. You can’t turn on the radio or a tv show without having it presented as the ultimate goal in life. You can’t even go to the grocery store as a single person because it’s too damn expensive, yet it’s socially taboo to share households outside of a sexual partnership and resulting offspring. You can’t rent a place on your own income and your rooming situation is terminally insecure because ALL roommates will be searching for a live-in partner over the 10-year future. You can’t sit down at a family dinner without someone bringing up how weird it is that you’re not looking for a partner. Any close connections you have with any non-single friends are ‘emotional infidelity’ to the Agony Aunts, any relationship with a single friend is counting down to zero. It’s an alienating and repulsive experience, because it’s just like any other axis of oppression.
However, because of the aforementioned unspeakability, the impacts are invisible. The structure of mandatory allosexuality isn’t escapable even in a wifi-less hotel room with a Christian bible in the dresser drawer and one single channel of local news. But if that’s not something that clangs with a person, they don’t notice it because the exact words are never used. People hold up Southern US purity culture as a reason asexuality is actually a privileged state. They conveniently ignore that purity culture is about women being wholly under men’s control, having no sex until being given permission, then popping out babies and screwing on demand forever once a man says so. The pressure is invisible. All that leads to scared teenagers on the internet venting the sense of despair they get when they’ve grown up knowing their bodily autonomy means nothing and that they’ll be economically and socially ostracized if they don’t give it up, when they’ve been told since they hit about age 12 that there’s something deeply wrong with them. And the response of everyone else in the room is ‘we are under fucking attack!’
Coming back around to the front, the US embargo on sex talk that affects everyone’s brain who grew up there means that the role of sex/eroticism in life is underexplored and underdiscussed. Without fully acknowledging and integrating those aspects of life into everything from literary to legal discourse, it’s impossible to have a full framework for analysis and it’s impossible to point out where asexuality interacts with/collides with the default.

How Ignis’ vocabulary changes as he gets older:
How I, Tina, may write / say something: Fuck. It’s almost impossible to get this right! I should probably start all over.
How Young Ignis may write / say something: Hmm... It’s rather difficult to get this right. Maybe I should start over...
How In - Game / Older Ignis may write / say something: It’s nigh impossible to get this accurate. Mayhap it would be in my best interest to start from the beginning.
