Owen likes gossip. Has no problem sitting with you and hearing you rant about everything and anything, occasionally saying "no way" or "oh my god" at all the right moments and some wrong moments. Would drop the most bit of tea with the most innocent smile. He'll keep their secrets just to spill them to you.

Safe to say Owen loves gossip. Way more than you and way more than is healthy. So much that when you say "GIRL SHUT UP" it's not out of disbelief - you actually mean it.

He's just too nosy for his own good! Time to have it backfire on him...but why?

Because of everything he put you through! Disappearing off to Korea just because Shelly decided to stay longer than expected. Like, come on, leave the girl alone! She's got a boyfriend! How dare he leave you high and dry in England like this; payback time, and through something that was sure to hit him hard.

Funny enough the idea was suggested to you by Shelly herself. The usual silent treatment punishment is kind of useless when Owen's COUNTRIES away, and this pretty much applied to anything else you could think of. You were out of ideas, until -

"Just tell him something juicy, then give him a cliffhanger! He'll explode trying to figure it out."

Whoever said blondes were dumb was a big fat liar.

Owen makes it a point to call you every two nights, even if it's just to rant about how stubborn Shelly is being; he's calling tonight, and that was the perfect time to execute your evil plans. You could hardly wait, impatiently considering calling him yourself while you lounged around and internally demanded him to dial your number faster.

The usual pleasantries and back and forth seemed to take more time as usual, or maybe that was just you - "Hi/How are you", "Enjoying Korea?/Missing England", "Convinced Shelly to come home yet?/I (CENSORED CENSORED CENSORED) HATE JAY JO/Damn okay bro". Finally, it was the right moment to launch your revenge plan.

"Wait, shut up for a moment, Owen, I wanna tell you the tea now - Okay, you can't tell anyone, got it?" You held up a pinky to the phone camera rather threateningly.

From the other side of the screen Owen solemnly held up his own pinky, eyes already enlarged by several pixels. "Promise; you can tell me anything. Anything."

...this will really serve him right. "My best friend, her boyfriend -"

You abruptly stopped. Even turned off your camera.

Owen remained oblivious. "Mhm...? And then?"

...

"What happened? Did he cheat? Does he have a sidechick?!"

"HEY? HELLO? WHAT HAPPENED?"

"YOU DID NOT JUST HANG UP ON ME - HEY! WHAT HAPPENED?!"

The next day Shelly texted you an image of Owen furiously blowing up your phone with text messages demanding answers to yesterday's prank, fuming enough to see the tendrils of smoke hovering around him like some malicious aura. It was a good laugh -

Was. Because apparently fifty seven missed calls and almost a hundred messages left on read was not enough to deter him from finding out the end of the story; oh no, Owen was absolutely NOT done protesting your silent violence against him - his words, not yours. Two things were killing him as of now: the airport kiss and you withholding gossip from him.

Well, he couldn't anything about the airport kiss (and he tried) but he could do something about you!

"Hey ~" Owen reached over the table, smiling and reaching for your hand, interlacing your fingers, rubbing his thumb over yours, squeezing your hand gently - the works. You took him out for consolatory dessert after finding about the Shelly-and-Jay-sitting-in-a-tree incident, and you want to say it seems to have cheered him up...except he's smiling too intently for someone bawling his eyes out a few minutes ago. "So, I've been meaning to ask..."

Your metaphorical hackles immediately rise in suspicion as you set your ice cream sundae away. "Mhm...?"

"Do you remember what you told me, oh, a couple weeks back?" He keeps stroking your hand like it's some cat. Yeah, don't trust him.

"...no."

"Y'know, the thing," Owen prompted.

"What thing?"

He exploded. "Whathappenedbetweenyourbestfriendandher boyfriend!?"

"Oh. That." Your mouth twitches this way and that to stifle the cackle you're holding in. "Well, they kissed in an airport and went viral."

The colour drains from his face. "...I...fell right into that, didn't I?"

Top 5 Video Game Foods

The recent Watcher Top 5 Beatdown had me racking my brain and googling lots of pixel food images, love the different aesthetic, experience, and curiosity factors that went in to their lists. Though I'd share my own & would love to hear yours!

5. I got into Skyrim late to the game, but my first character started as a Jean Valjean-inspired petty thief in the pursuit bread and cheese. Nothing looked quite as appetizing as those little sweetrolls. One of the many delightful discoveries I came across going in blind to an iconic game.

4. Red, plump, slightly bioluminescent - super versatile as either a food source or bioreactor fuel, but most of all a gorgeous addition to any base. Returning to base and taking a bite of a fresh lantern fruit was more just for roleplay than anything lol, but man do I want to have a taste in real life.

3. Figuring out recipes was one of my favorite parts of the unlimited exploration in the open-world Breath of the Wild, and nothing seemed tastier than the Creamy Heart Soup. I can just imagine how revitalizing it would be to slurp it down mid-battle. Something about video games making imaginary fruits just looks so tantalizing, and I'm always a slut for a good soup.

2. The craftable food update in New Horizons is what kept me around for nearly a 1,000-hour island. Something about how they would steam after you cooked and placed them just looked so good. The cute aesthetics of the food items could warrant its own top-10 list for me, and the Peach Pie was as good as it got. I got the Switch game in 2022 well after the pandemic peak. Neither me nor my friends had peaches on their islands, and I was not about to pay to trade with someone - I never actually attained this beauty. My island had lined fields of crops and a farmers market with baked breads and jarred goods, she would have been my star centerpiece.

1. This is mainly an experience-based choice for me, but I imagine the taste would be phenomenal as well. 10-year-old me was unaware of changing DS settings to play different dates, so the once-per-day cup of coffee was a cherished moment. At the time I did not even know what coffee tasted like lol. The thought of drinking a scalding hot beverage scared me but I did not want to disappoint Brewster by letting it cool past its peak flavor. And Saturday nights when KK Slider was there?? Highlight of my week. Honestly that whole atmosphere of having a tasty little drink and watching a local live performance is exactly the vibe a look for as 28-year-old still. I wish I could go back and see how many hours I put into Wild World, I literally COMPLETED that game before I had access to the internet to look up how to find things - it was my cozy place.
