I do have some advice for that actually! Firstly, you're probably better off making it a full blog instead of a side blog--managing side blogs is a pain, and if your whump blog is a side, you could end up reblogging a whump post on your main. That happened a lot of times for me and many, many others, so you're better off making it another blog instead of a side TBH--it's one of the very few things I regret making this side blog. I should have made it a separate blog instead haha! But it's up to you whether you want to make it a side or not!

Next, make an intro post! Introduce yourself to the whump community, and most definitely share what your favorite tropes are! There will be people who will come across your intro, see your favorite tropes, and who knows, they might like the same tropes as you too! That's one of the ways to make friends :D Alternatively, you can also use your intro post as a masterlist for your future stories, just make sure you pin that post so it will be on the top of your blog!

To get yourself out there and meet others, check out others' whump posts and stories! Reblog, reblog, reblog, don't just like! What is ‘if maggots knew god’ ?

What does it want to achieve?

Why is it taking so long?

(What is) if maggots knew god (IMKG) is a hobby-writing/illustration project of mine, i your ‘humble’ author and artist Hunter, decided to write and illustrate a graphic novel style horror/psychological comic. Because of I want to (:

The story premise can be found on the accounts pinned post so I’d refer to that in terms of explaining the idea.

The story serves as my personal little pet project not just to tell a story but also to learn about the process and in a sense “playtest” different ideas, a lot of the story ideas in IMKG are inspired by my own literal dreams (and nightmares tbh). I’m hoping to make all of this somewhat coherent into one story but to be completely honest I’m really just messing around with all this because it’s fun (:

(What does it want?) The story, focuses heavily on the concept of immortality, many characters within the story face a unique kind of immortality tied to the characters arc. In tangent with this one of the central themes of the story is also death, and the ‘ending’ of a story. What makes a good ending? What makes a bad one? How long should a story go on? Which are all questions a storyteller faces when writing.

“The story MUST end” to put it concisely, an objective fact. This also applies to living beings hence the theme of immortality, when is it appropriate for someone to die? What happens if they refuse?

The story is structured around the stages of grief, with an “act” of the story dedicated to each stage, the prologue (which is already finished and available!! Find on pinned in the chapter index if you haven’t read it already!) acting as the event that sparks this grief, although this might not be fully clear with the information currently available (will be elaborated on as the story continues though, as any prologue does)

Long story short, IMKG is a story that questions why things must end, how and the resulting grief from things ending. All wrapped up in a (hopefully) nicely illustrated horror setting.

(Why is it taking so long) I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to single handedly write and illustrate a 5 act story with several chapters for each act while ALSO figuring out the process in a practical sense.

It’s hard though!! And like, I’m also a full time student plus life and all that. Don’t get me wrong it’s tons of fun but there’s a reason they have multiple people for this professionally! Woof!

The process includes, a beta script, a final script, storyboarding the labels, rendering (sketch, lineart, colour, shading and lettering!!!) in the future, it’s possible that I might include friends in the process, currently my roommate helps me beta-read the script and has also helped a bit with the design process of things!

This blog has been around for about a year now! (Woo!! Yippie!!!) which I’ve spent figuring out major plot points, character designs for the main characters and TONS of world building,

a lot of which I’ve been sharing for the people who have been around since the beginning (and who I cannot thank enough for being around, seriously guys it might not be much but the handful of y’all are a key component in the making of this, the encouragement on posts keeps me working and motivated!! And not to name favorites but especially thanks to Elias-the-Corvid and sop-soap)

This has all been a decently sized rant, mostly for posterity’s sake, looking back at where we’ve been and where it’s all going from here as I’m finally getting into actually making the whole thing! And also a little bit to hopefully entice new people to be interested (:

I'm thinking about getting indie (partially so I can hopefully rp with you tbh!) but I just wanted to know how important having an Aesthetic Theme and Writing With Aesthetics is? Because, ya know... I'm bad at both of those things...

i’m ngl i think aesthetic is semi important in the indie rp world . this is just based off what ive heard so i could be wrong ( again, im not in indie myself ). however , i do think the aesthetic is easy so long as you know what to do in some aspect . here’s a list of what i do when im making a blog and want to make it semi - aesthetic , but not spend toooo much time on it . the good news is that there’s so many resources and beautiful stuff out there already . all you really have to do is click save and upload !!

pick a shade or colour you like ( pink , green , orange , red etc )

in tumblr or via google images search “ dash icons “ . try and find an icon that matches the colour you decided on above . if you find this search hard , i have a tag here u can peruse .

in tumblr or via google images , search “ headers tumblr “ or smth of that sort . again , try find something that’s the colour you’re after again . bonus points if it’s not just a plain colour but has some art to it . again , if u want help finding some i have a tag here or here .

create a tumblr url . for this part , i usually use a song lyric i really like or a word i find beautiful . eg i’ve used waiting room by phoebe bridgers . if that url is taken , ill use numbers or mix up the lettering a little eg waitingr00ms , vvaitingrooms , waitngrooms

go to your blog settings and upload ur saved dash icon as ur blog icon , then same w ur header . change the colouring there ( accent , background and title ) to be varying shades of the colour you picked out in the first step . keep it simple here if you’re not sure .

in the “ description “ part of edit appearance , you can write something as simple as you want . eg (your url), an indie blog , penned by (your alias). minors dni

use lingojam and space carrd to help create a pretty pinned post ! this pinned post should introduce yourself , your pronouns , your general rules , dos and don’t s , etc . doesn’t need to be super detailed yet !! just helps ppl orientate themselves when they land on ur blog . sometimes i scroll through the indie tag or see other peoples pinned posts and use that as inspo for what i write ! you can use my pinned on my 1x1 blog for inspo or copy it entirely if u want idrc !!

if ur rlly lazy like i am , go to blog settings > custom theme > DISABLE custom theme . i hardly ever use a custom theme anymore bc i couldn’t be bothered . and this way you don’t have to worry too much abt what the blog looks like bc tumblr has defaulted almost every blog u click on to show you the non-custom-theme version first anyways . i hardly look at any blogs thru their full url now , but that’s just me !!

general aesthetics when writing : use bold and italicise to emphasise things in your responses . use spacecarrd to double space things for you if you want that extra ~aesthetic~ look ( plus it can do all the fun colouring for u , if u want to include colours in ur replies and don’t like the tumblr default colours ). use small text if you want but u don’t have to bc this can be hard to read and not very accessibility friendly . worth noting a LOT of the aesthetics are NOT accessibility friendly , so that’s why i choose not to go too ham ( and u don’t have to either ! so just do whatever u are comfortable with ! )

and that’s literally all i do ! like i said , i don’t go too wild with my aesthetics bc im not very good at it . but i hope this simplifies the process somewhat for u ! i look forward to rping w u in the future heheheeh . if you need help finding any specific resources or links , let me know and i can link u or find a tag for u !

I guess that means it's time to explain what's going on. So, I've been unemployed since September. This blog has been what I call productive procrastination. It keeps me busy and stops me from just playing videogrames or just falling into depression, but it also takes time away from looking for work. But looking for work wasn't working, whereas engaging with people on this blog gave me something to look forward to every day. I actually posted this on my LinkedIn, because it could possibly help me stand out.

Anyway, the story. So the New Jersey Department of Labor doesn't just give out unemployment money, they also offer hookups to industries and businesses that are hiring. I turned down being a prison guard, even though I am very interested in criminal justice reform (it's one of the few places where my moderate politics goes strongly liberal), but they make you work 10 hours shifts plus overtime that's basically mandatory, and it sounds like a really toxic work environment. Given that I was the teacher all the kids liked, the parents were wary of, and the administrators hated, it did feel like a $70k salary (after overtime) and top-tier health insurance weren't worth it.

By the end of February I was running out of unemployment funds and still didn't have anything. In the worst case, I could pick up gig work as a substitute teacher, which would buy me time until mid-June. That's when the NJDOL came in clutch* by offering free CDL training with an 8 week course, extending my unemployment benefits until the end of the course. So yeah. I asked friends and family for advice, whether to do subbing or go for my CDL (class B plus Hazmat endorsement), and they all said I should take the classes. I can always do substitute teaching afterwards if I want, but this way I'll always have a way to get a job.

So that's what I've been doing. It's been a really interesting experience, tbh. But I just haven't had enough time to feed my queue, and that's why you're reading this message. What little time I've had to write these up, I've been using to draft my longer lessons like the Time Zones lesson, doing the weekly Revised and Revisited or Appraised and Approved, and maintaining correspondence. But I really do have to be careful or else I will absolutely spend far too much of my time here.

Okay, now to the point of this post.

I need to do a lot of job applications. If I get a job as a hazmat trucker or bus driver, then maybe I can get in good with the higher-ups and work my way up to a logistics job. That means I need to cool it on drafting new lesson plans. I've been a perfectionist lately. Last week's Olympians lesson took nearly an hour. Time Zones to me at least 6 hours.

At the same time, I've been wondering what to do about the ToP. Ironically, I entered the project without a plan. I have noticed that 1v1 rounds get more responses than the weekly votes with 5-7 entries. Sounds like decision paralysis. This is probably a version of why the American electoral system is broken; only the hardcore voters care about voting in the primaries, so a minority of strong opinions decide who advances to the general election, where everyone feels qualified to pick one because all the nuance has been removed.

Anyway, this is about fun.

I'm looking for ideally a Male or Nonbinary character to play alongside this Masculine Nonbinary character, but I'll consider Female characters too for Ciaran, for a modern with supernatural plot. Give me fellow vampires, werewolves, the undead, selkies, shapeshifters/changelings! I'd love to find him a Werewolf to play against to teach him how to love and find companionship after 1200 years of loneliness, and maybe we could introduce some omegaaverse shenanigans in there too if that is a thing you also enjoy.

PROFESSOR LEON RITTER [FC: Michael Sheen in Good Omens] - a literature professor - has newly moved to [city of our choosing] from Berlin. He's looking for a few things, chief amongst them for his past to stop following him around. He's a simple man who lives for writing and his books, as well as his pet Chihuahua, Betty. He seeks solace in stories... And sometimes in the darker corners of the city's streets and parks, too.

I'm looking for Male or Masculine Nonbinary characters to play alongside this Cis Male character. This plot is more grounded in reality than the previous, and has no supernatural or fantasy elements, (unless we decide to do something like modern omegaverse? IDK, I am open to that though!) I'd quite like to go one of two ways with him - a younger person, maybe a mature student in his classes, finds out what he does at night and at the weekends, simply by coincidence because they're also out cruising and cottaging, too. Or alternatively someone to calm him down and make him take care of himself for once.

It can definitely be overwhelming, I entirely understand!

First, I'd say you should make the blog look all nice lookin! /lh Basically set up the colors, the ask box, profile pic, banner, all that jazz. For me personally this helps me decide how my pinned post is gonna look and how I want my tags to look and operate.

Then you can decide what types of requests you're gonna do. Make sure they're things that you enjoy doing! And don't be afraid to rotate out anything that you find too tedious or annoying or just not fun for you to make. This is supposed to be fun for you so don't be scared to keep it fun!

If you feel like you'd get too overwhelmed with a bunch of requests then set up a limit (like how I have!) and you make your own rules so you can always enforce the limit on low energy days and things like that and on days that you're feeling inspired let beings go ham!

Don't feel like you need every little thing you see other kin blogs have! If you don't feel like you can upkeep a to-do list don't have one! If you can only make two kinds of requests then stick with those two! You don't need ask games or anything like that, so long as you're loving what you do then you'll attract a good audience!

- prey/observer preference, mainly like thinking about being a victim of it but observing means more fun overall

- samesize or halfsize. No g/t or macro/micro stuff. Oral only.

- masc or neutral preds are generally more my thing, but as ever, if it’s hot I’m game.

- strongly prefer fatal/digestion/‘realistic’ endings- it’s a gut, it’s not gonna be nice. Painful is a bonus for my masochistic ass.

- wont be putting anything graphic about disposal on here, at most one or two lines, but it goes with the territory.

- if it seems nightmarish I’m probably into it tbh, but degradation/emotional cruelty is funnily enough a no-go for me.

Gorey side of things:

- snuff, gore, etc. i’m a masochistic slut, as previously mentioned, so things will go accordingly.

- might tag the more gruesome stuff just as ‘snuff’ to be nice since it ain’t everyone’s cuppa tea.
