i don't agree that the nyt crossword is a video game. it's a replica of a paper product for people who do not have access to the paper product. being on a screen and having basic input ui does not necessarily qualify something as a video game. if i can print out a screenshot of your game out and it functions completely as expected without the computer, then it is not a video game.

however, some of the word games available through nyt are video games; wordle for example does not work at all without the computer's ability to hide the correct answer and would be near completely unplayable without its ability to show the player partial successes (meaning that I couldn't even play it with an "answer on pg 36" style hidden solution). the crossword is a bad example that obfuscates Brian's point, imo.
