Web Server vs. Application Server: Key Differences

If you happen to be into web development, knowing what difference lies between a web server and an application server is a good thing.
Web Server: A Web server is one that responds to HTTP requests and delivers static files like HTML, CSS, and images. One can be considered as delivering the basics of a website.
Application Server: It does more by handling dynamic content, running server-side code, and supporting business logic. It’s perfect for more complex apps that need interaction with databases or APIs.
Understanding when to use each can help you build better, faster web applications.

Overview of a Computer System: Understanding the Basics
An overview of a Block Diagram Of Computer system provides insight into the fundamental components that collectively empower the digital era. At its core, a computer system comprises hardware and software seamlessly intertwined to perform myriad tasks. The central processing unit (CPU) acts as the brain, executing instructions and manipulating data. Memory modules, including RAM and cache, enable swift access to information, while storage devices like hard drives store data for the long term. Input devices such as keyboards and mice facilitate interaction, transmitting user commands, while output devices like monitors and printers translate digital information into a human-readable format. The intricate dance of data within a computer system relies on a robust interconnectivity infrastructure, commonly known as bus architecture. Operating systems and software breathe life into the hardware, providing a user interface and enabling applications to run. The synergy of these elements forms the backbone of a computer system, revolutionizing communication, information processing, and problem-solving. Super underrated thing in Ultrakill is how whenever you see a new layer's open landscape for the first time, that first moment is free of enemies, letting the calm version of the level's track set the tone of the layer. The clean versions in these levels are all united in that their breakcore elements are completely absent, allowing for just the raw atmosphere of the instrumentals to shine through. Each one is unique however, so it feels only right to explain them all individually. Spoilers for Ultrakill below the cut.
LIMBO

For anyone that's never read the Divine Comedy, this moment is a bit of a shock to the system. Hell is a place of fire and brimstone; devils and lakes of blood, no? So why is it so... nice? There's birds chirping, calm piano music playing, trees, a fountain; it seems wrong. And then you see the projector walls; the lack of a building behind the door; the transparency of the trees; the speakers playing the ambience. It's all fake, and the calm music only serves to make it all more sinister. It's a great tone-setter for what had previously only been a corridor shooter, and indicates there's more surprises in store.
LUST

After the series of interconnected rooms that was Limbo, Lust doesn't play its hand immediately, lulling you into a false sense of familiarity with a familiarly-designed techbase. It's only after ascending the shaft and using the bouncepad that you truly see Lust for what it is, and Cold Winds' opening notes perfectly convey the wonder and scale as you ascend into the air, this seemingly endless city stretching into the distance. It's majestic; and it's the first moment Ultrakill really shows what it's capable of (a moment very much improved by the recent Ultra-Revamp to remove the 2D skybox)
GLUTTONY

Gluttony opens to a room of writhing flesh, with the echoing, discordant notes of Guts playing. It's disgusting, it's unsettling, and after the battle with King Minos' corpse, it allows the player to properly think on the horror of what happened to the King of Lust, as well as the supposed Angel that killed him. This is the supposed palace of Gabriel, Judge of Hell. It perfectly sets up the twist reveal of Glory later in the level, and the eventual battle with Gabriel in 3-2 by putting the player on edge.
GREED

After a climatic battle with Gabriel and the subsequent plot developments, Greed pulls out another massive shakeup, opening to a massive desert cast in the shadow of a distant pyramid. The influences of Ancient Egypt are obvious from the first moments, and Dune Eternal's intentionally choir-sounding opening drone perfectly reflects that. The entire level is oozing desert atmosphere, as is the whole layer. After the weight and disgust of Gluttony, it's nice to have a change of pace.
WRATH

Wrath holds off on truly showing the extent of the layer until its second level, and thanks to that deliberate restraint, this moment is much stronger as a result. The flooded facility in First was already indicative of something going on; but this? This is an endless ocean of damned souls, and He is the Light in my Darkness's quiet harpsichord proves appropriately somber to accompany this moment. It is dark, and depressing, and really hammers home the true existential horror of Ultrakill's world; Mankind really is dead, and this is the consequence.
HERESY

Heresy waits to reveal the city of Dis until halfway through the level, and my god is it a powerful reveal. The slowed fall as the red fog slowly recedes to reveal the massive hanging landscape... it's a twisted reflection of Lust's intro, and the music damn well knows how important this moment is. The muted guitars of Altars of Apostasy are powerful, and really act as a wakeup call: we're well and truly in the Belly of the Beast now. This is Hell Proper, and if there was ever a time to turn back, it's long since gone. My literal only complaint with this moment is that I wish the level text were here instead of in the opening corridor; THIS is the moment that deserves to claim the layer of Heresy, bar none.
VIOLENCE

Violence is an unique layer in that technically every level has its own Moment™, but 7-2 is by far the most impactful to the layer as a whole. After our rematch with Gabriel and the subsequent dissolution of Heaven's Council; the Labyrinth and its Minotaur; and the serenity of the opening rooms being shattered by an intruding Gutterman, we ascend the stairs to see... a literal warzone. This entire place has been scorched black by endless conflict; rivers of blood flow through gaping holes in the landscape; the now-familiar pristine white architecture of the Labyrinth is shattered and burned at every turn, with entire rooms once-buried now open to the skies. This place bears striking resemblance to the London Blitz, which is no doubt intentional considering the Final War's roots in the World Wars. The frantic piano notes of Hear! The Siren Song; Call of Death really hammer home the endless war that has ravaged this circle of hell, as the song is constantly shifting time signature to keep itself feeling unpredictable.
I love this game and its Soundtrack, man. There is so much genuienly care and effort put into every little detail that I can't help but gush about *checks notes* the first 10 seconds of specific levels. That said @hakitadev HAKITA! MOVE THE LEVEL TEXT OF 6-1 TO THE REVEAL OF DIS, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS

#ultrakill#v1 ultrakill#limbo ultrakill#lust ultrakill#gluttony ultrakill#greed ultrakill#wrath ultrakill#heresy ultrakill#violence ultrakill#I wish I had more to talk about but Fraud and Treachery are still in the works so we end on Violence#Ultrakill's OST is so fucking good man#Hakita and his team absolutely know how to take advantage of these calm moments to set the tone and it's wonderful#It's been a long time since I've gone back and experienced the atmosphere of these levels without blowing straight through them#And I gotta say it is worth it because it still goes hard on the millionth playthrough

Ok I'm becoming the Joker right now because I looked at Battletech too hard and fell into a crack.
This is the Archer Rubinsky, a custom refit of an ARC-2R used by Rubinsky's Renegades that takes advantage the Inner Sphere techbase of the 3050s to swap the design's LRMs for 4 SRM-6s and add a Hatchet to the mech. It's a pretty cool design and after I saw Flechs didn't have it (even though Sarna and the MUL did) I decided to track the thing down.
First stop was the MUL to figure out where they're sourcing from, which was apparently Field Manual: Mercenaries. No dice there, just a description of an Archer with SRMs and a hatchet, but no tech readout or record sheet. Then I hear MegaMek has a sheet for the thing. Great!

But where is this thing coming from, because it also says it's in Field Manual: Mercenaries? I did more googling and I stumbled onto this ancient archive of a geocities site

This is definitely our mech, and paging back out of the Archer, we find that this whole thing is an archive of obscure and unknown designs, either made by FASA but with a very limited/no publication, or designs present in other BT media (games, novels, source books, etc.) with no official record sheet where the author made their best guess as to what they'd look like on the tabletop. The Archer Rubinsky falls into the latter category, a fluff only design that was given stats by an old fan working on their blog. At some point, that technical readout probably got ported into MegaMek and because there's a sheet in MegaMek and a reference in an official product, someone put it on Sarna. Because CGL also uses MegaMek, at some point they too got bamboozled and took the BV calculation and stuck it on the Master Unit List without crossreferencing to make sure they actually had a first-party record sheet in their own archives.
So congrats to Matt McLaine, wherever you are. You put together a project to archive obscure designs from a game you liked and threw some of your own stuff in there as well, and at some point it got so old that your fan design accidentally made it into the official game's site.
#battletech#battlemech#mech talk#im not sure ive encountered another game thats thrown me down a hole of source hunting like this#every once in a while you see a detail on sarna and when you go to look for it you just find an abyss opening up

Third League Royals: A Guide to Building Standardized nuSLDF BattleMechs
"Third League Royal" is a term coined for refitted and modernized BattleMechs deployed by the Star League Defense Force (SLDF) of the Third Star League from 3151 onward, in the Touchdown AU.
These upgraded designs follow strict formatting guidelines to ensure interoperability, survivability, and networked warfare efficiency in the modern battlefield.
This guide outlines how to construct a Third League Royal using MegaMekLab (MML), with a focus on out-of-universe implementation.
Core Features of a Third League Royal:
1. Mixed Clan Techbase (Unofficial Rules Enabled):
All Third League Royals must use the Mixed Clan techbase.
The Unofficial Tech Level must be enabled in MML to permit these configurations.
Furthermore, under the Tech Progression tab in Options, you must enable "ignore intro/extinct years for Unofficial Tech Level units"
2. Nova CEWS or Equivalent EW Suite:
All standard Third League Royals mount the Nova Combined Electronic Warfare Suite. Usually placed in the head slot, unless:
a) The 'Mech has a traditional head-mounted system that takes priority.
and/or
b) A Small Command Console cockpit is in use.
Exceptions:
Recon or command-focused 'Mechs may instead mount:
a) Clan ECM Suite (fluffed as "Archangel ECM").
and/or
b) Clan Active Probe (fluffed as "Wolfhound Active Probe").
3. Small Cockpits & Command Consoles:
All units use Small Cockpit technology.
Command variants use the Small Command Console Cockpit.
Ensure the cockpit is armored via the Assign Criticals tab in MML.
4. Armored Cowl Equipment:
All designs must mount an Armored Cowl in the head.
Must be armored via the Assign Criticals tab.
5. Clan-Tech Modernization of Legacy Loadouts:
Loadouts should (but do not have to) resemble previous variants of the 'Mech.
Upgrade to Clan equipment wherever appropriate:
IS Medium Lasers → Clan ER Medium Lasers.
IS Gauss Rifle → Clan Gauss Rifle or HAG.
LRM/SRM systems → Clan ATM or Streak launchers.
6. IS Composite Structure:
Must be selected under Structure.
7. Clan Double Heat Sinks:
Exclusively use Clan Double Heat Sinks.
Install as many as the design allows to minimize heat buildup (see below for Quirks that will effect the final number).
8. Supercharger Optimization:
Optional but recommended for weight efficiency:
Downgrade engine rating by one step.
Add a Supercharger to restore original speed.
Example: 300-rated engine → 285-rated + Supercharger.
9. Quirks:
a) Add the following universal Quirks (in addition to any original ones):
Battle Computer (replaces Command Mek Quirk if present on base model)
Combat Computer (+4 sunk per turn on top of normal heat sinks - not shown in MML UI, total heat/heat sunk must be manually calculated)
Cowl
Easy to Pilot
Extended Torso Twist
Improved Communications
Improved Sensors
Multi-Trac
Variable Range Targeting
b) If Jump Jets are present, add:
Reinforced Legs
c) Weapon and AMS Quirks:
i) All weapons (energy, ballistic, missile) must have:
Accurate Weapon
Improved Cooling Jacket (reduces individual weapon heat by one - not shown in MML UI, total heat/heat sunk must be manually calculated)
ii) All AMS types must have:
Directional Torso Mounted Weapon
d) Negative Quirks of the original design should be removed unless given a compelling lore reason.
10) Additional Design Notes:
a) Armor Allocation: Prioritize maximum armor where weight allows, using Clan Ferro-Fibrous or Ferro-Lamellor if possible.
b) CASE II: Highly recommended for Clan ammo-fed weaponry.
c) Head Slot Limitations: If both Nova CEWS and Command Console are needed, prioritize the Command Console and shift Nova to an alternate location.
The Third League Royal format creates a high-performance, standardized set of BattleMechs optimized for 32nd-century mixed-technology, survival-focused, network-centric warfare. By following this guide in MegaMekLab, players can build compliant 'Mechs that reflect the Third Star League's vision of a modern, networked military. Whether deploying a reimagined Atlas or a revitalized Shadow Hawk, your 'Mech will carry the legacy of the Star League forward—into the next era of warfare.

now this? this is beautiful.
rethought the Doomhammer having a Sunfang UAC/20
an LB-10X seems better for the job, and more likely to actually be used on a 'Mech that can carry more than a ton or two of AC/20 ammo (especially given that the Sunfang tends to weld its own barrel shut over long engagements, and because of the magnetic coils, there's no way to put a sensor in that tells the pilot if they're about to blow their own 'Mech up)
found enough extra space vs the old version to slot an extra small laser into the center torso, too (though some of that space was eaten by replacing the Clan ECM with the IS Guardian ECM)
#the original with the UAC exists in files for archival purposes. i think. i hope.#i've got the physical sheet for it at least.#forced to use a clan techbase to get the CASE to show up#also i forgot it was MHI/JAM Aegis III ferro. but the Dougramhawk got the Aegis II model so that post still stands.
