"have a great rest of your day!" your voice chimed cheerfully before deadpanning as soon as the customer left. "i'm so sick of this." you groaned, rubbing your sore cheeks from smiling so much. "you'll be fine really!" your manager laughed causing you to roll your eyes. "seriously, this day has been so stressful!! i mean really- who the hell is pissing in these peoples cups and selling it as apple juice because why're they all so bitc-"

you got cut off with the sound of the small bells chiming. shit a customer! there's ten minutes till closing who the hell-..??? was all you could think to yourself before turning around and tensing up.

"uh.. is it too late for me to get coffee?" there she was, the prettiest neighbor you had; ellie stood by the counter, her head tilted as she stood there rather awkwardly. "sorry- I woulda came later but.. class has been up my ass yknow?

suddenly, the pain from smiling so hard went away, and you were smiling once again. she always seemed to make you smile with just her presence. ''no I get that!!" you chuckled before heading over to ellie, your manager giving y'all a knowing look before walking to the back. (how sweet <3)

"so what would you like?" you asked, trying not to seem so giddy with just being in the same room as her. "I don't really drink coffee uh.. I don't like sweets too sweet y'know?" ellie seemed to ramble, avoiding eye contact while also trying to look at you. she seemed to love looking over your features.

"i can get you a pastry and soup if you want-?" you suggested as she smiled. "yeah sure."

after you made her food, you placed it on the table she had sat at, before sitting in the seat in front of her. "this looks really good- hope I won't die or anything" she joked, as you laughed "no promises" you replied leading her to chuckle. "what kinda first date would that be?"

you both seemed to turn red at her words, your heart rate quickening. you forgot you had referred to it as a date. "a really bad one..?" you responded and she laughed. "you're so stupid! ..not really I'm- i'm joking-." there it was again- she seemed so worried to offend you.

you guys talked for a while, her soup half finished and cold because of how she just never stopped talking to you. she seemed to love your company.

she even stayed as you cleaned up, talking to you as you did what you needed to before closing. "you ready? i'll walk you back home- well I guess we would anyways cause we're neighbors huh.." ellie spoke, scratching the back of her neck as you nodded, smiling. you turned to wipe the counter, noticing the 10 dollar bill in the tip jar. ellie paid for her food? you couldn't help but smile a little harder, your cheeks pink. you didn't know how you knew, but you just did.

as the two of you walked back to the apartments, the night had gotten colder. you could see y'alls breaths as you walked side by side. your arms would brush against each other every now and then, leaving the two of you growing rather shy.

ellie would get bold whenever she talked to you, but it'd only be for a second.

"you look really pretty right now."

"really? thanks, you're pretty too ellie"

"oh- thanks- thanks.."

you neared your apartment door, recognizable by the welcome mat in your favorite color, and the crooked numbers for your unit number. "thanks for walking with me el- it was really nice." you smiled stupidly, leaning against your door as ellie rubbed the back of her neck. "no worries.. that- was a pretty cool first date."

date.. you smiled, nodding as well. "you can choose where we go next ok?"

"next? so a second date.?"

"yeah!"

"cool- cool yeah.. I'll think of a place."

"goodnight ellie"

"g'night, sleep well-.'' and with that you closed your door, leaving ellie outside.

William "Hoosier" Joseph Smith Research Part 1:

Alrighty ladies and gents, here is the first bit of research on our Indiana boy! Being born in January 14, 1922, Smith comes up on the census for the first time in 1930. His parents are Harley and Helen Smith, and he has an older sister, Mary who's 11. He's also got a younger brother, Charles, who by the looks of it isn't even a year old yet. His father is a carpenter- a profession which sticks around in the next census.

Moving forward to 1940-so Mr. Smith is still a carpenter, and we have the value of their house (about 5,000 in today's money, but according to Zillow, the house is worth about 150k-ish) which they do own. Hoosier's older sister, Mary is no longer there- I presume moved out and married- and Charles (Hoosier's younger brother) is now being called Eddie.

Mr. Smith is his own contractor by the looks of it, doesn't work for another business. How much he makes, we don't know, but he's checked the yes box for receiving more than 50 dollars from something other than wages/salary- probably commission work, and has worked the full 52 weeks in a year. Hoosier's mother is a housewife likely, and by the looks of it, Hoosier is still in school by March 1940- probably in his junior/senior year would be my guess, and assumedly will graduate. He's not listed as having any job- might have a part time one though not sure if that would be recorded or not.

Unfortunately, because Google clearly wanted to spite me, their little photo street view truck never went on the Smith's road, so we have no better view of their house and the house itself hasn't been sold recently so no pictures on Zillow of the inside/outside.

Now here's our boy's draft card from 1945- skipping a bit ahead but that's fine. He's probably just left the Marines, still not yet finding another job- and looks like his parents have moved? They're on a different street, but for some REASON don't list the full address. (also lovely cursive sir, I may say).

He's below average height, shorter than Conley, but he's stocky which fits with what Leckie told us (I'm predicting none of the Leckie squad is going to be tall since they were all in the machine guns). He has blue eyes, and brown hair (maybe very light since Leckie thought he was fair)- we know he got wounded, but unlike Conley, he must not have had a too significant scare because it's not added in identification....or somebody left it out which is also possible.

Should hopefully have more soon with his military records!

I ordered a really cool book (long)

I know it's Julius Ceasar day but I just got this book and I'm really excited about it!~ I just received it and I'm very happy to have it in my hands. I'm planning on (carefully, gently) photographing the pages for archiving

It's called "Life of General Warren; To Which are Added Sketches of the Lives of De Kalb, Wayne and Morgan." Published by Nafis, Cornish and Co. in 1847.

The box it came in was neat, a box for cable staples. It was nicely packed with styrofoam cut precisely, so that the book didn't shift around at all during transit. It was also tucked into a small plastic bag taped shut, the person who sent it to me took care for the safety of the book. The book itself is really little, it makes all the people in the drawings so itty-bitty. It's reeally cute

The cover of the book is worth noting - the back half is right-side-up, but the front side is upside-down. There is a little man that was once embossed in fake gold, but it's since been rubbed off. You can tell a little around the edges.

The same design is on the back cover, with no gold embellishment. That's the only place on the book where I could find it. Like most other old books I've found so far, I don't have a lot of experience outside of my grandparents' collection, the spine is cloth and has nothing on it. It's bound with glue, so some of the pages are loose and falling out. Not all of them, though. I think this little embossed man is the same design as the one on the color page (plate?)

It's featuring the Battle of Bunker Hill. Famous, bloody fight that scared Howe, but not to make him quit. The colors here are red, blue, yellow and green. Wonder what ink they used for the pages? It's still very vibrant after over a hundred years. The faces of the little people are hard to see with my phone photo, but they're actually very expressive, and tiny. I think up there is Clinton? With the two Epaulets. Could be wrong though

There are more illustrations inside, these are the only two color ones. On the first two pages, someone wrote down in ink advertising them. There's also some writing here? The "twenty-two dollars" must have been written later in pencil. Nice cursive practice, didn't expect the ink to bleed on this paper, did you?

Someone also wrote down a recipe on the back of the front cover...can't tell what for. Something about 1/2 cup tea?

Nice to meet you, William. I think on the next pages it says 'his book' in pencil, but it's faded.

I think he liked doodling.

UPDATE : I started reading and it turns out that a few pages are missing from the front of the book, with the first few loose from the binding. The rest should still be intact, but it leaves out some information that way :(

Good News In Sports: The Return

HELLO! I am officially restarting "Good News in Sports"! For those wondering why I stopped... let's just say I actually lost interest after a while (And I'll be honest... it's been a rough few days to be a queer sports fan). Anyways, let's get on with it! The NHL Four-Nations faceoff is officially underway (In fact, I think Canada vs Finland *just* ended!). While many people, myself included, had low expectations for this event, the entire tournament has been full of excitement, and chaos galore! And I'll be honest, while I always enjoyed the All-Stars, I always felt like there was something missing with them. And I'm so fucking glad I didn't skip this. Additionally, NASCAR season is underway! With William Byron winning the Daytona 500 for the second year in a row! And to any Jimmie Johnson fans, I am happy report that Jim-Jam got P3! Welcome Back, JJ. There's some other stuff about the 500 I forgot to mention but I forgot what it was. Honestly, probably nothing important sooo let's just move on :) In baseball news, pitchers and catchers have officially reported to training camp! Spring Training officially starts this Thursday, with the Cubs and Dodgers going at it! Oh and the Super Bowl happened. The Eagles won. However everyone's still talking about that Halftime show! And yes, it was as amazing as you'd expect. Don't think I need to go over this too much, we already know the story. 😅

Oh! And MLS will be starting their season this Saturday! Good luck to all teams! Yeah I know, this was kinda boring. Unfortunately there isn't really much great news involving particular athletes or teams. However, if you want some heartwarming-ish stuff, Tom Grossi, a sports comedy YouTuber is currently doing a subathon(?) until he gets either 1,000,000 subscribers or raise $1 Dollars for Children of Fallen Patriots. It's further explained here, but I do recommend checking it out!

Chapter 1:

We're All Running From Something

Quite the read. :)

A cool gentle breeze rustling through his short spiky hair as Flash runs around the track.

As his competitors approach from behind he speeds up to keep his lead. The wind picked up, people were cheering Flash in from the stands...

And....

"DARRIN WILLIAMS COMES IN FIRST!"

The announcer called out from his box within the stands. Thr crowd goes wild and starts chanting "Flash! Flash Flash!"

He made his way out of the track area, only to be halted by reporters.

"Another victory in the continued winning streak of Track Star, Darrin "Flash" Williams," a Channel 6 News anchor, Brie Walters commented as her cameraman filmed.

"Darrin may only be in college, but he has great potential to someday be in competitions such as The Olympics!"

When Brie noticed Flash, she ran to him with her microphone, "Flash! Flash! A second if you wouldn't mind!"

He stopped and looked at her. "Alright, but only for a few minutes."

Brie nodded. "How does it feel to win yet another State Track Meet?"

"Same as it always does, it feels nice to win." He stopped for a second. "But I don't run for thr medals or the trophies. It's simply just...a passion of mine."

"Besides Passion, is there anyone who motivates you to keep going with this running career?"

"Uh.." Flash had hesitated.

At this point, Brie was smiling wide, " A girl maybe.. someone like Beauty Pagent Winner, Heather Granville? You've been hanging out around her recently yeah??"

"Uh.." Flash shook his head. "No she's just a friend. But, I gotta go now."

Something was always followed Flash, something...not good, and the dread of it was sinking in so, he had to go. He ran away from the reporter, who was left suddenly confused.

Flash had run straight into Heather upon pure coincidence. Knocked them both right over.

Heather rubbed her head as Flash offered out his hand to her, he'd gotten up fast, and was very apologetic.

She accepted his hand and rubbed herself off. Today had already been a bit weird for her. She also had a splitting headache because of it.

"Its alright.. it's not the worst thing that's happened to me today...." Heather seemed kind of down, she let go if Flash's hand when she was back on her feet.

"Sorry to hear that..anything I can do to help?" Flash asked.

"Probably not unless you have 4,500 Dollars." Heather sighed.

"I most definitely do not." He was taken aback slightly. "But..what's it for? If you don't mind me asking."

She was quiet for a moment, before speaking low, "A nose job."

Flash put his head down low. "Heather, you don't need a nose job. Your nose looks fine."

"Just fine?" She asked her eyes pleading.

"More than fine, amazing flawless. You don't need to change your appearance like that to be pretty Heather." Flash said kindly, "You've got natural beauty. Not a lot of girls can say that."

"Aww," She found herself blushing at parts of Flash's words, "Thanks Flash. Means a lot."

Flash nodded in response. Half the time Heather did this sort of stuff so she could get compliments, so it's hard to tell if she was lying or being sincere.

But that's the first impression you'd normally get being acquainted with her. Flash sincerely liked her despite everything.

Maybe it's because they were both popular. Regardless the two friends hugged and went on their way.

Her heels clicked as she walked away from The Track Star. An important mission for a young adult in college.. asking her parents for money.

She'd already told Flash what she needed and he had helped her out a little, but all the other girls have been talking about Heather behind her back..

"Your nose is crooked!"

"Off Center"

"Beauty Queen isn't so pretty now huh?"

Maybe Flash was right, she is pretty and nothings wrong. Maybe these are just petty rumors spread by those who are Jealous of Heather. It's not worth the risk.

She arrived at the Café, she had asked her dad to meet her there. He was a successful businessman. Luckily she'd caught him on his lunch hour.

"Daddy," Heather looked at him with slight puppy eyes. "The other girls at my college say that my nose is crooked."

"And let me guess, you want thousands of dollars for...what? A nose job?"

"If...you would?" Heather asked nicely.

"Absolutely not." He said. "You don't need a nose job, you are a beautiful young woman okay?"

"Those other girls, well, they're just jealous."

Of course, Of course. What was Heather thinking. The world was in her grasp. Born into Beauty it seemed to even revolve around her. Truthfully, a fault of hers, conceded due to those around her. Perfectly Perfect as some would say.

Not all lives are as perfect as Heather though. Take Zoe Ingstrom for example.

She is an 8 year old girl who is the child of a broken couple. No further details needed. But it is rubbing off on her. She often makes her dolls hit each other...

That as you know is not healthy. It shouldn't be a thing a kid has to head let alone watch.

Distant yelling could be heard echoing in the halls of her house.

"WE'LL MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T SUCH A DEADBEAT, ZOE COULD HAVE A REAL FATHER AND A GOOD LIFE."

"DEADBEAT?" A male voice countered the female voice, booming louder. "I'M NOT THE ONE GOING AROUND WITH OTHER GUYS HUH?!"

Both parents had their faults. Honestly, weren't even fit or ready to have a child.

Zoe drowned it all out with the dolls. This time she was playing house. A mommy and a daddy doll were taking their baby doll out for a picnic in a nice park.

They had sandwiches, juice, chips and everything you can think of that would be at a picnic!

Zoe used her imagination to run away from her troubles, but it only got worse outside her room.

She decided to take her favorite dolly and climb out of her window. Luckily her room was on the first.

We are all running away from something.

So This Isn't the End Just Yet

A week or two after Sleep No More announced its intent to close in January 2024, I had one of my very, very vivid dreams about the McKittrick Hotel. I’ve had quite a few of these over the last 13 years – remarkably consistent in that they capture a lot of the details of a place I’ve spent so much time in, plus a few exaggerations like dreams do (a pirate ship in the basement, a rotating, levitating pine tree in the ballroom, the usual stuff). This one was no exception. I was at what I dreamt was the final performance of the show, and because the hotel was closing, most of the props had been stripped away already. A lot of former cast were back filling in for the end, including William Popp as the Taxidermist, despite his never having played that role. I got a 1:1, and he performed the scene in a very barren, stripped down Taxidermist bathroom, and of course I got emotional. As the 1:1 ended I started to cry and I whispered to him, “thank you.”  At this, Dream-William looked down at me and said, in that dopey Calloway voice:

“Don’t ruin the moment with your vanity.”

As prophetic dreams go, that’s quite the warning to heed.

Of course, now it is January 2024 and the show is not closing next weekend like we originally expected. Elaborate plans to see friends for one final, burn-it-to-the-ground celebration of this unique place are all out the window, and quite a few hundred dollars are floating in the nether as the closing date slips ever further into the future. I suppose it’s fitting that it’s ending like this, milking every day for every dollar, and defying, at least for the time being, the proper memorialization that will eventually have to come. 

For my part, I’m still grieving something vast and vague about this change. I’ve joined the fan Discord just to feel connected to the rest of the community that is, similarly, grieving something vast and vague that’s about to change in our lives. For as overdue as the end of Sleep No More seems to me, I know I’m struggling to imagine what New York will be like without it. Opening just nine months after I moved here, I spent years taking the show for as granted as a fan could. I’d book a last minute ticket some weekends and then wander the performance looking for cast members I was eager to see. If I found none - or if I was tired - I’d sit down in the lobby restaurant, pour a cup of tea and eat the prop toast. After so much time, and with so much familiarity, of course I, and others, acted like we owned the place, and that it would always, always be there.

But it couldn’t have been further from the truth, and the closure is now going to hit us all like a ton of bricks, isn’t it?

So I’m mindful of Dream-William’s words as I plan out how to commemorate this epochal shift in my New York life. How do I do justice to what it all meant to me, without going overboard? I’m going to write about some key dates in the 13-year relationship I had with Sleep No More, just a few little episodes to try to hint at the bigger picture I am slowly drawing out of all of these memories. The good news about the postponed end is that I have more time to write these – I’ve barely started yet. I hope someone is planning a good book, or a big oral history. The past couple months have been an archaeological dig, and there’s just so much that I never wrote down, or wasn’t right to write down, that I hope we can record. We’re going to miss it all so much when it’s gone.

HnM, and essentially the BRF, is throwing a lot of random, some true some false, stories out there to see what gets the audience engaged. Right?

Trying to list all the random pasta being thrown out lately. As in, all the random disconnected PR tangents out there. Let me know if I'm missing something ..

1. HnM are separating and their marriage is really bad (too.much chatter about this, makes me think this is not true and very much orchestrated by HnM themselves to further their joint victim narrative)

2. The car chase

3. Random awards for Meghan and her humanitarian work

4. Meghan got new agent, WME. She is going solo. My guess is WME was already engaged by Harry for zoom/lecture circuit but it was not official. This is because he has been working with Jill, Serena william's agent for sometime now. Meghan then hired WME the agency via Jill's recommendation.

5. They will not do any more interviews, podcasts, shows about the BRF.

6. Harry and his Visa issue and that court caseim the US (my guess is nothing will happen with that and that Harry already got his O1 Visa renewal this year. It's a 3 years visa that he first got in/around June 2020)

7. Harry and his very many media lawsuits in the UK.

8. Harry maybe is, maybe isn't still a counselor or state. He keeps going back to UK just when his dad is overseas. Once can be a coincidence, but twice??

9. HnM looking for houses in LA

10. HnM selling their montecito mansion. Or renting it out?

11. Harry has a spare room always on hold at a hotel in LA/SF. (Previously this same rumours came out about Meghan but turned out she was shooting for her podcast at the hotel)

12. HnM and their mystery friend whose house address they did not want to disclose in NYC. My guess is that it was Fitzpatrick the hotel guy.

13. Travlyst put a new ad out a few weeks ago. Interesting timing, and my guess is that Travelyst and the CHIMPO gig are somehow related to Harry's visa and tax status. That's why the only time we hear about Travelyst is 2020 and 2023 when his Visa was due.

14. HnM will make a royal feature film for Netflix. My guess, HnM and neyfy will work that into the promotion for The Crown S6, that's the only way HnM will make any money.

15. Charles and Camilla don't like Catherine. That's the weirdest news I have heard lately, and think it's not true at all. Mainly because Catherine is too classy to let a fued with the King and Queen be known publicly within months of their reign.

16. Harry has hired lawyers months back.

This is a very long list and I'm sure I missed some points. I'm just wondering what the purpose for PR salad is... how does it serve HnM other than just keeping them in the news cycle? Where's the money for them in this?

And how does it serve the BRF other than just putting the main players under immense (and unnecessary) scrutiny?

Hello! Thank you for this lovely, thought out and detailed message!! You definitely named a lot of the main PR Pasta stories I was discussing. From what I've read here, you have three main questions:

1. How does this serve H&M?

2. Where is the money in all of this?

3. How does the Flying Pasta Game serve the BRF aside from putting the main players under immense and unneccesary scrutiny?

Let's look at question 1:

If you strip back the sensationalism that is in the press, and you strip back the titles, money, and fame... what do Harry and Meghan really have to offer? Not much. Keeping them in the press, like you mentioned in your question, does keep them relevant. And, we'll discuss why this equates to dollars in a moment. But, think of this. If Meghan and Harry weren't in the press... all their critics would move on. They don't need fans, as they don't have a whole lot of them in truth. They need people to criticize them so they can cash in on those victim interviews. But those have run out.

If you remember, this mouse said way back in the day that eventually MM and H would run out of steam regarding the victim narrative and the BRF. You can't be a victim of someone you aren't even allowed to see. UNLESS... they can use the press to weaponize it and keep this going until something better comes along.

A lot of the time, people give narcs and cons too much credit. They think that these people go out and have detailed master plans, and most times, it is just on the fly, go with the flow kind of things. While there IS ALWAYS a general plan and direction, there isn't a step-by-step, day-by-day list of boxes to check. Most Narcs make it up as they go. And it's that way because information is always changing. One insignificant little point someone says could be something used against them later.

So, to summarize my answer for the first question... ultimately, the press not only keeps them relevant in a fast forgetting world, it also gives them a way to perpetuate the victim narrative. Most importantly, these stories give the powers that be feedback on the general public. You can't read the comments section and see if it's the right time to drop something or do something if you don't have anything written about you.

Question 2: How does that equate to money?

Well, at face value it does not. But, EVERY pap shot and leaked source story probably follows with a favor or payout. The laws in CA are strict. You cannot take the picture of a child and publish it without consent of the parents first. Another way this serves the BRF is it allows Charles to gauge the public opinion. YouGov polls aren't what they seem. Polling is very skewed. As with the Harkles, this allows for an echo chamber. This allows for Charles to see what his real options are with containment.

Q2: H&M benefit from always being in the news because they can use the victim narrative to manipulate and grift their targeted people. They probably already have an audience and purpose in mind with every story. Stories are the way cons use and abuse their targets

Q3: The BRF benefits from the Flying Pasta Stories because it keeps the masses focused on that trainwreck instead of other issues. They benefit from using the narrative to garner their own empathy. They benefit by seeing how the public will respond to potential decisions, too.

At the end of the day, I cannot believe that Harry and Meghan can afford everything they claim they are doing. And when I got contacted from a London source, I started to see things from a different perspective. When some of the things I was told came true, well... I started to change my whole outlook. It all boils down to data analysis. All of this provides data, and it allows them to manipulate people with the stories on both sides.

Asia Markets Mixed as Unease Persists on Trump Tariff U-Turns, Threats

Asian stock markets were mixed as unease about President Trump's policy shifts prevailed following the postponement of tariffs on the European Union and the threat of new duties on iPhones and other smartphones made overseas.

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average was 0.9% higher in late afternoon trading on Monday, while South Korea's Kospi was up 1.25%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was 0.1% higher, with about an hour of trade remaining.

Shares were mostly lower elsewhere, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index off by 1.2% and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 0.3%.

While another U-turn on tariffs from the Trump camp put U.S. equity futures on a firmer footing, and will buoy EU Stoxx futures too, broad participation will take time to build due to market holidays in the U.S. and U.K., said Chris Weston at Pepperstone.

U.S. futures were broadly higher in the Asia session, with contracts tied to the S&P 500, Nasdaq and the Dow Jones Industrial Average up around 1%.

On Sunday, President Trump said the U.S. will delay tariffs on the EU until July 9, days after he threatened duties of 50% on the trading bloc. July 9 is also the deadline for the 90-day pause on most "reciprocal" tariffs on U.S. trading partners.

Trump on Friday also floated slapping 25% duties on foreign-made smartphones, saying he expects Apple iPhones sold in the U.S. to be manufactured locally and "not India, or anyplace else."

China-listed Apple suppliers fell on Monday, with Luxshare Precision Industry down 1.0%, Lens Technology shedding 0.9% and GoerTek declining 0.2%, paring earlier losses.

Trump's latest threat is generating uncertainty but is likely a negotiating tactic, Morningstar senior equity analyst William Kerwin said in a note. IPhone production in the U.S. isn't feasible in the medium term, and tariffs may be a way to get more U.S. investment from Apple, Kerwin said.

Most Asian currencies rallied as the greenback declined. The Australian dollar appreciated by 0.5% against the U.S. dollar, while the South Korean won gained 0.1% and the Singapore dollar strengthened 0.3%. The euro was last 0.4% higher at 1.1410 against the dollar.

Prices of gold ticked down 0.3% to $3,346.48 a troy ounce, while front-month WTI crude oil futures and front-month Brent crude oil futures added 0.4% each.

"Any more tariff news this week could inject more volatility into currency markets and pull the U.S. dollar further down," said Samara Hammoud, international economist and currency strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
