Former PM Malcolm Turnbull exposes how gutless the ABC has become in an interview with a breakfast announcer. In response to questions about his criticism of US President Donald Trump Turnbull hit back at the ABC. “On Tuesday morning, Mr Turnbull hit back at questions from the ABC about whether his attack on Mr Trump would undermine Australia's case for an exemption. "Are you suggesting that we should engage in self-censorship in Australia for fear of offending the huge ego of Donald Trump?" he asked. "Is that really the state that we've got to? Surely we should be free to speak the truth. Longtime watchers and listeners of the ABC would be aware of this, as the absence of outspoken presenters in the Kerry O’Brien mould is keenly felt. The challenging intelligence of ABC current affair reporters and hosts are no longer front and centre for the network. Playing it safe is the MO these days after sustained lobbying by the LNP Coalition and budget cuts when they were in power for a decade prior to the Albanese government.

Malcolm Turnbull Turning up The Heat On Trump

Malcolm Turnbull is turning up the heat on Trump in the absence of any commentary coming from the government. I did notice that the WA Premier called JD Vance a knob and this may well have contributed to a better than expected result in the recent state election there. Most Australians think that Trump is too extreme and a danger to world peace and economic security. PM Anthony Albanese has a ‘no comment on Trump’ policy but he may have to review this, I think, in light of the crap job Donald Trump is doing in the US. The Ukraine reversal in favour of Putin is a bridge too far for most conservatives around the place. The popularity of Zelenskyy makes the US pull out in Ukraine a betrayal of a disgusting nature in most people’s book. The ABC has, when reporting on Donald Trump, trodden a docile line in search of impartiality. However, when Adolf Hitler’s forces were rolling over Europe I don’t think the BBC would have been worrying about being benignly objective in their reporting. There comes times when things have to be called out for what they are.

The ABC Has Been Gutted By Conservatives Softly, softly may be the political approach of the Albanese federal government in their approach to international affairs but I don’t think we need the ABC to carry on in such a manner. Australia is a predominantly right wing media landscape with Murdoch’s News Corp controlling most of the media. Nine Fairfax and Seven West are largely conservative corporate media voices as well. We do not have a major progressive voice here downunder and the ABC used to play a bit part in fulfilling this missing piece of the puzzle. The death of The Drum and the gagging of alternative voices, as in the Latouf dismissal, have seen a muting of the progressive voice here in Australia. The carry on about antisemitism has been a one sided campaign waged to further pro-Zionism views. News Corp platforms like The Australian, Daily Telegraph and Sky News Australia have been relentless in their alarmist messaging about any protesting by pro-Palestinian Australians voicing their views about the genocide occurring in Gaza. Peter Dutton, the LNP Coalition opposition leader has been in lockstep with News Corp over this and drumming up fears in the community with divisive commentary. The beat up phony story about the caravan packed with explosives to terrorise the Australian Jewish community is the perfect example of this. This bogus event or non-event was front page in the Murdoch alarmist press. Dutton was doing his spooky Voldemort impression from the sidelines warning that the heavens were about to fall in. The ABC, in previous times, would have investigated further and courageously stood up to the noise but not anymore. Vale ABC, we grieve for your misplaced fearlessness – once a lion and now a mouse. The ABC Has Lost Its Independent Voice

There have been a number of disturbing incidents recently, which highlight the demise of our national broadcaster’s once fearless presence. The ABC has lost its independent voice. These include ABC presenters parroting editorial positions from the Murdoch press. In several of these cases the facts at the heart of the matter were not only borrowed but wrong. In what universe do we want the ABC quoting the editorial right wing bias of The Australian when questioning interviewees. ABC Sans Drum Loses Its Way In News & Current Affairs

The decision to kill The Drum, the only progressive, youth orientated current affairs program seen in Australia, was a worrying sign. Where is the replacement program for this audience? The ABC has become a light weight, entertainment/weather channel for middle of the road audiences. No more challenging material and little courageous content, apart from the odd episode of Four Corners. 20 years of relentless attacks and budgetary pruning by the Coalition have rendered the broadcaster pissweak, in the Australian vernacular. Reactionary conservatives have had their way with the once fearless news and current affairs department at the ABC.

ABC Political Anchors Very Vanilla Greg Jennet, David Speers, and Matthew Doran are the vanguard of political reporting at the ABC right now. Lite, white, and to the right, in my estimation. Anchoring shows with this vanilla all the time speaks to the retrograde happenings at the national broadcaster under the current management. These chaps follow the News Corp line, as if they are working for Rupert in actual fact. There seems to be an editorial policy which reminds on air presenters that their audience is conservative and centre right. Politics over policy  is the company line.

The ABC has lost its edge when it comes to reporting in the news and current affairs sphere. Its presenters are having to quote reports in the Murdoch press. Many of its own journalists are very young and wet behind the ears – so that they can pay them the minimum rate, I suspect. What was once a great institution and had a fearless news and current affairs team is now second rate. It is time to oust the current management and revitalise things at Auntie. It is never too late to begin again. What about a replacement show for The Drum? Where can the many progressive viewers now go to find something for them? All these voices and perspectives from Indigenous Australia, women, disability, the alternative scene, LGBTQI+ and more have lost their place where they could be heard and seen on the national stage. It is a crying shame. Shame on you ABC management. ©WordsForWeb

When I joined EARS, I wanted to make a difference. To help people and protect them from the monsters. But that was a lie that I had been telling myself for years. I was afraid. I was angry. I was hurt because a monster had hurt me and took away someone I loved. I thought that if I put a bullet in each and every monster I came across, I’d feel better. I’d be less afraid.

That’s not what happened.

Every monster that I put down couldn’t fill the hole inside my hurting heart. I realized I was getting closer to BECOMING one of the monsters. It took a “monster” to open my eyes to that and showed me that even a “normal” human can be the monster.

It’s hard. Some days are easier than others, but I can’t let fear and bloodlust be what drives the organization. I joined EARS when I was a hurting young girl, and now, I see that EARS is hurting too. Like hell am I going to just stand by and let the organization turn against itself. EARS can be the organization that helps, but we’ve got to start over.

There is something that drives each of us to want to make a difference. I want to help start making that difference. I want to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I want EARS to be that difference, not an organization that eradicates those that are different. The Drum won’t control this organization any longer. Anyone who thinks differently can meet the end of my shotgun.
