It will never not be funny to me that in Thousand Autumns, Shen Qiao is just the one normal, reasonable person while everyone else is living in a classic Wuxia drama

Basically every book conversation is just this:

(Honestly knowing YWS's melodramatic ass, SQ probably just went through a mental list of statuses you could give to someone based on their proximity, realized that YWS is very much an outlier and also very much particular about his titles and general importance, picked "friend" as the safest option.)

on the subject of "the fandom being weirdly obsessed with interpreting everything about Shuro in the worst way possible" i have to bring up the "what if we all got our genders changed" comic because today i learned that there's a significant amount of people who saw this panel

Okay so what if this, but also he actually has had the very occasional crush throughout his thousands of years of being a god, but he has equally no idea what to do and is an awkward mess about it. Like Mr God of Death had one to many private partys with his disciples to boost moral and all the sudden he's feeling really odd about Dave from accounting. But instead of focusing on what those feelings might be he sends them away as far as possible so he never has to see or think about them again, and everyone thinks Dave must have done something terrible but it was actually just their cat god experiencing gay panic

  In a world where every human starts with blood that’s a very bright red, only darkening by one taking another’s life, Tim is very careful. Apparently even using explosions in warehouses and wherever else the league of assassins had set up counted as killing, to his slight horror. He couldn’t let his team know of course, even if they joked about joining him if he turned villain. 

  It was one thing to joke, but if they saw his blood, pitch black and dark enough to nearly swallow the light around it? He really doesn’t want to see the horror or disgust. He isn’t going to let anyone know if he can help it. 

  So it’s a really shitty situation when one of the henchmen of one of the rogues decides to break his nose and about fifty-something people are suddenly very aware of his very high kill count. He has a choice here. And he isn’t entirely sure if he wants to deal with the consequences of either of them.

The purpose of characterizing jaybin as this inherently violent reckless kid is to justify the victim blaming that started basically immediately after Jason’s death (did Batman fuck up by involving child sidekicks? No it’s the child who’s inherently doomed), but I don’t think that gets Bruce off the hook at all. Because then the new story becomes that Bruce saw this apparently emotionally disturbed homeless child and decided to recruit him into Vigilante Violence instead of doing literally anything else? Jason is not a trained from birth assassin child the way Damian is nor does he have any pre existing yearning for the cape vigilante inclinations. He is an incredibly normal kid considering his circumstances, sign him up for after school wrestling and some counseling if it’s that serious bro like what are we doing? You’re telling me that Bruce with all of his rich guy resources is flopping where a semi competent underpaid social worker could’ve succeeded??
