The Sims 2 to The Sims 3 - Simlish Hobby Posters | Games

Here's another set of hobby posters by Sims in Low Space that I have converted to TS3!

One of my personal favorites out of these as well. I really enjoy the retro vibe from these in particular. I used to spend a lot of time at the bowling alley as a kid as I played on a league (my 7th birthday present was my own bowling ball!), and the snowboarding poster reminded me of watching my dad play the old snowboarding game SSX 3 on the GameCube (which ironically is also an EA game and TS2 Sims are addicted to playing). And the poker one? That one reminded me of this poker game my mom had on her pink Sanyo flip phone I used to steal and play! I could go on all day...these would work anywhere really, but particularly in your arcades, bowling alleys, festival lots, finished basements with juice bars and pool tables...

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

Sims style, meaning CAS style, the Sims themselves? I'm not really sure what to say 🤣🤣🤣 My style has always been a mixture of retro and modern, and largely based on the Sims' personalities themselves. If they're premades, I have always based their outfits/makeovers on their original look, just enhance it and put my twist on them, still considering their personalities. I also look for real-life inspiration online. I guess what I can say has really changed is that I became more adventurous with using colors and patterns on their outfits, and doing more mix-and-matching. In terms of portrait presentation, it has changed, from a minimalist wall to a more appropriate, lively, colorful background.

It's times like these that I miss TS3. The colour wheel is a lifesaver!

This will be a long ramble about colour palettes and textures and my eventual attempt at recolouring.

My ideal would be a colour palette I create myself. There's a few wood and metal textures I really like that I could see myself sticking with. When it comes to patterns and textures I enjoy realistic over that plastic-y look. I really don't like TS4-esque things for the most part because they lack the kind of texture I like. There's so many cool meshes that look horrid to me personally because it looks so cartoonish. Like, couches with no fabric or leather texture! Just this plastic look that looks uncanny to me. There's so many objects I barely use because if it. I just keep them in case I ever get to recolouring them.

There are exceptions of course, like the wood textures from Horse Ranch. Those are top notch!

I think the past few days it's becoming obvious to me that eventually I'll simply have to do something about this. But I really want to keep simming! And yet I'm growing increasingly annoyed.

I think I'll just have to choose my fave textures and download recolours that are available for the objects I use and then learn to recolour so I can do the rest myself. I will create a colour palette of my own so I can finally be satisfied. It'd take forever to recolour most things with my palette though. But it would be worth it to to me!

Most patterned recolours I have I'm fully satisfied with. Though I could use more, especially retro patterns. I really enjoy Maxis leathers, they look perfect to me. Then there's, for example, couch recolours I have downloaded that are exactly to my liking regarding the texture but I don't like having so many different palettes. I only have them because I like certain colours over others all across different palettes. I assume these creators often use their own say, fabric textures and I can't find more of that. I don't know if it's frowned upon to recolour someone texture with other colour palettes.

I think obviously different Maxis and cc objects need different kind of textures. But I'd like to have a cohesive colour palette, once again. So I'd really need to make my own palette, learn how to recolour and possibly create different fabric textures and/or recolour Maxis textures with my palette. I wonder if there's free textures online one can use, though, if they don't know how to make their own. I'm clueless about this stuff for the most part.

Honestly, I could go on and on. But the point is I can't have all these different palettes and textures if I want to keep my downloads folder under control. With the right palette and textures I could make my buy mode cohesive which would make me happy. If I really got into it I'd turn to build mode next.

This would take so much time and effort, especially since I've only done a handful of recolours years ago and I probably don't understand enough about it. I suppose I'll start reading tutorials and finding as much info on this as I can. Then I'll give it a try and see if it's something my silly brain can handle. Anyway, I'm losing sleep over this because I'm overthinking it and I needed to get it out of my head. Now I can finally sleep though! Goodnight 😅
