'Like many debunked ideas, hygiene theory and the myth of the bored immune system have become entrenched. A couple of years ago, hygiene theory got repackaged as "immunity debt." Now Americans, Canadians, and many Europeans think they need to get sick to stay healthy. The elites have absolutely no problem with that. It saves them countless billions to let everyone continue thinking they're better off letting diseases run around in their cells.
So:
Your immune system doesn't work like a muscle. It doesn't get stronger the more it's exposed to different harmful germs.
It doesn't need practice.
...
Think of it like this:
Your body already knows how to heal its skin and bones. You don't have to teach it how to do that by cutting yourself or breaking your arm.
As it happens, many westerners also think bones grow back stronger after they're broken and scar tissue is tougher than normal skin.
That's also false.
Scar tissue remains functionally deficient in many ways compared to uninjured skin. Broken bones form a temporary calcium callus that's stronger than ordinary bone, but it's eventually replaced.
These misguided ideas fit in a culture obsessed with tough love, the idea that abusing someone somehow builds their character. And while it might make you interesting, it's certainly not "good" for you.'

WASHINGTON (AP) — A vaccine to fight dementia? It turns out there may already be one – shots that prevent painful shingles also appear to protect aging brains.
A new study found shingles vaccination cut older adults’ risk of developing dementia over the next seven years by 20%.

FOR PARENTS OF YOUNG KIDS IN THE US!
Someone over on bluesky posted this and I figured I'd better repost it here. It's the pre-RFK 2025 vaccination schedule for babies and young children, ya know, just in case it mysteriously disappears. Save this and give it to your child's pediatrician; tell them this is the schedule you want your child on.

There is a new vaccine going into Phase 3 trials from Valneva and Pfizer as well as a monoclonal antibody-based prophylactic treatment being researched at UMass!
TIL the reason you don’t find much Lyme’s Disease in California is not because we don’t have Ticks, or Lyme Disease Vectors; but rather: because the Western Fence Lizard (if you live anywhere in California this is your regular Garden Variety Lizard) has adapted a passive immune response that makes their blood lethal to Lyme Disease Bacteria. Any Tick that feeds on one gets its gut cleansed of Lyme Disease as a side effect.
Fucking neat.

CW: animal death, rabies
A horse just passed from aggressive rabies in Thatcher, AZ, and they couldn't euth it because it tried to attack anyone who came near, so it died in agony - they also couldn't shoot it to put it out of its misery because brain tissue has to be preserved for analysis by the state, and potential blood/brain matter spray from that method of death creates a rabies vector biohazard that can infect anyone or anything it comes in contact with. PLEASE make sure any animals you have that can have a rabies vaccine get it. It's a fairly inexpensive vaccine, and the peace of mind and protection it provides is worth it. Putting more description and the video of the horse under a readmore, all the content warnings, this video is truly horrifying, but I feel it is important for media evidence of what rabies can do to be out there for better information.
From the vet hospital's page: "This horse pulled into the clinic Monday afternoon at 1:30pm and was standing in the trailer. It went down in the trailer when we tried to get it out and it was dead two hours later. We were unable to get close to it in order to put it to sleep. Imagine the zombie apocalypse when the zombie is supposed to be dead and then jumps up and tries to chase the human with half its body gone. The horse presented after fighting with another horse over the corral fence, that horse was euthanized today by the office of the Arizona State Veterinarian due to significant exposure to rabies and not having ever been vaccinated. The horse destroyed a mesquite tree by trying to rip it apart with its mouth and the owner was somehow able to get it into the trailer without being injured and bring it to the clinic.
When it arrived it was mouth chomping and self mutilating its front leg. It went down and it trashed and it would try to attack you if you went into the trailer.

‼️‼️ IF YOU NEED ANY VACCINES YOU NEED TO GET THEM ASAP ‼️‼️
RFK Jr is very likely to be in charge of public health policy come January and he has been very open with his radically antivax agenda. And Trump has said he “is open to” banning vaccines outright in the US. So if you need or want a:
• Covid Booster
• Flu shot
• Tetanus Booster
• HPV
•Meningococcal Meningitis
Or any other vaccine that you have not gotten. MOVE FAST. Some of these take multiple doses that need to be spread out over several months. At this point it is wildly unsafe to assume our country would not do something this unbelievably stupid!!!
#us politics#vaccine#rfk jr#if you do not have a pcp contact ur local health dept#they should be able to point you to a clinic or help you directly

UPDATE: NOVAVAX NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Hi everyone, it's been about a year since I posted about updated COVID vaccines and it's time for another update if you are in the US:
THE BRIDGE ACCESS PROGRAM IS ENDING!!!!
If you are uninsured or your insurance does not cover covid boosters, please schedule a new booster appointment before the end of August because the Bridge Access Program (the way the government will still pay for your booster) ends in September. The updated mRNA boosters from Moderna and Pfizer are available now. Go Go GO!!!
Shitty, I know! If you can call your congressional reps, the FDA, the CDC, whomever to tell them you want this program to continue/be reinstated, that would be great. Also, while you're at it, call the FDA to tell them to expedite the approval for the updated Novavax booster (3017962640).
The new Novavax vaccine is designed for the JN.1 strain which is one of the most recent mutations of the virus going around. If you have insurance and can afford to wait, I highly recommend getting the Novavax booster when it becomes available.
We are currently in the largest Covid summer surge since 2021
If you haven't had a booster in the past six months you are essentially unvaccinated. New strains with different spike proteins keep evolving faster than vaccine development and distribution can keep up. All that said, getting Covid is not a moral failing. If you do feel sick, take a rapid test! If it's negative, test again a day or two later. It is better to know than not to know. Here's a refresh on how to take a rapid test correctly:
If you do get Covid, it is worth getting on antiretrovirals within the first week of symptoms to reduce the overall viral load your body has to fight. If your insurance doesn't cover Paxlovid or Remdesivir, here are other low/no-cost ways to access it:
If you get sick, rest radically even after you stop testing positive on rapid tests. Avoid exercising for at least eight weeks after the fact to reduce the risk of developing long covid.
Regardless of your vaccination status, masking with a KN95 or N95 respirator (or equivalent standards in your country i.e. FFP2/3 in the EU) is the most reliable way to protect yourself and others. If Covid protections are a financial burden, there is likely an active Mask Bloc near you doing free distribution of respirators and tests that would be happy to help you. Here's a global map of them from covidactionmap.org
Some quick tips: if you're wearing a bi-fold mask, flatten the nose-bridge wire completely, then mold it to your nose on your face for a better fit. The best mask is the one that you will actually wear regularly to protect yourself. I really like the selection of styles, sizes and colors from WellBefore:
As school is starting, getting you and your family boosted is one of the best things you can do to protect yourselves. Masking is perhaps even more important. If you can advocate for updating and regularly changing the HVAC filters at your local schools to MERV-13 or higher to keep the indoor air cleaner, that can also make a big difference. Better indoor air quality in schools helps protect kids from illness, allergies, wildfire smoke, and more per the EPA's website.
These are steps you can take to improve air quality at home as well. Corsi-Rosenthal boxes are low-cost and highly effective for cleaning the air indoors.
Here's a map of clean air lending libraries for getting access to air purifiers for events from cleanairclub.org

THIS!!!!
It has always disgusted me the way people pretend to care about kids while in the same breath threatening said kids just to prove a point.
Like no, you don't give a fuck about those kids you give a fuck about being right. If people saying that nasty shit actually cared about kids they would not be wishing death upon them and it is that simple.
Not to mention if they actually care about kids they would be engaging in debates and movements that are actually focusing on children's rights and making the world a better and safer place for kids. Funny how I never see the people who use kids as leverage while claiming to care about them in the discussions about how to actually better children's lives.
This post actually reminded me of the time that I saw a debate between two feminists. One was a real feminist and the other wasn't and you'll be able to tell who was who if you read further.
Well one girl was losing the argument and her attempt at gaining leverage was to tell the other woman that she hopes her daughter gets sexually assaulted to teach her a lesson (teach the mom a lesson, not the daughter, tho she was probably hoping to teach the daughter some "lesson" too). Absolutely disgusting behavior and anyone who engages in Behavior like that or supports it, yeah we know what you are and what your true goals are.
no actually i don't think antivaxxers' kids should die from a disease. i don't think gun advocates' kids should die in school shooting. children dying is bad actually, even if they're children of people you don't like.
#none of you view children as actual (innocent!) people you see them as some inanimate extension of adults#children's rights#child care#protect children#feminism#vaccine#anti vax#anti vaccine#pro vax#pro vaccine#gun control#gun violence

"Dr James Odongo sat eating greens at a restaurant in Apac district in northern Uganda when his phone rang. The Ministry of Health had included Apac on its list of the 105 hard-hit districts that would be included in the first roll-out of the new malaria vaccine.
Odongo – who is the health officer for the district – felt ecstatic. Malaria, a leading cause of death in Uganda and most of Africa, had killed 41 children under five years in the district in 2024. This vaccine had been proven to help avert the severe forms of the disease that are responsible for most childhood malaria fatalities...
“The Ministry and WHO had set most of the guidelines for the roll-out exercise, including a directive that the vaccine be integrated into routine immunisation,” said Odongo in an interview with VaccinesWork. “But we wanted to familiarise our nurses and other health educators with details about the vaccine – and why it is administered in four doses (at 6, 7, 8 and 18 months) to give children optimal protection.”
“We wanted our nurses and other frontline health workers to understand how the vaccine worked so they could explain it to mothers and other community leaders,” he said. “We wanted to get on top of any misinformation that could cause hesitancy, and encourage mothers to bring their eligible children for the vaccination.”
Apac can’t wait
Odongo and team conducted an aggressive, thorough community awareness campaign to let people know that vaccine would soon be available, and how the ground-breaking antigen would soon help to tamp down the incidence of severe malaria in children under five years.
But unknown to Odongo and team, most of the mothers and community leaders in the district were as enthusiastic about the vaccine as the health professionals were, and looking forward to the roll-out.
The community’s eagerness was evident when the Ministry, in partnership with Gavi and the World Health Organization, launched the vaccine in the district on 2 April. Hundreds of mothers and community leaders from across the country and district thronged the function, presided over by Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, seeking the jab. For many of them, there weren’t enough hours in the day: health workers could only vaccinate 245 children before it got dark.
Holiver Atim, whose baby was vaccinated that day, said she wouldn’t have missed out on the opportunity – not after losing her firstborn to malaria. “I was one of the first people to arrive at the venue that day,” she said. “Malaria has taken so much from our family. So, if there was a chance that the vaccine would protect my other child, I wanted him to have it.”
Hard-bitten
A study published in the Open Journal of Statistics shows that Apac has the highest number of infectious mosquito bites globally, estimated at 1,500 per person a year – the reason the district also posts one of the highest malaria incidence and death rates in the country...
“Malaria is such a big burden here,” said Odongo. “It is the leading cause of severe illness and death in children under five years. We have a slight drop in cases during the dry season, but when the rains return and the swamps are saturated, cases surge right back.”
A ‘godsend’
The vaccine is a godsend, he said. The Ministry allocated an initial volley of 7,700 doses of the R21/Matrix-M vaccine to the district – although it targeted to vaccinate at least 9,225 children. As soon as Odongo and team received the vaccine they integrated it into the district’s routine immunisation so nurses at each of its 19 vaccinating health facilities could administer the shot alongside other antigens...
“We are seeing a tremendous demand for the vaccine, not only in Apac, but in most of the 105 high and moderate transmission districts that have rolled out the antigen. In fact, in most of these areas, the fear is that they will deplete the doses before every eligible child has been vaccinated,” said Akuno. “For instance, three parishes in Kole district, also in northern Uganda, have already utilised their allocated vaccines.
The Ministry of Health distributed just under 2.3 million doses of the vaccine early this year, with the initial goal of reaching 1.1 million children under two years in 105 high and moderate transmission districts across the country. But it plans to expand the roll-out countrywide.
Optimism on the frontline
It’s not just mothers who are enthusiastic about the vaccine. Moris Ogwang, registered nurse and deputy in-charge of the paediatric ward at Apac General Hospital, is looking forward to seeing a change in the grim statistics he records daily.
“We admit about 20 kids a day. But of these, 18 are usually because of malaria,” said Ogwang in an interview with VaccinesWork. “Sometimes we get babies who are barely weeks old, and they have severe malaria and pneumonia and need to be transfused.”
“The vaccine will help to stop such complicated cases,” he said. “It may not prevent children from contracting malaria, but it will help to build their immunity and stop severe forms of the disease, which are our biggest challenge, really.”
Aceng made the same argument during the 2 April launch. She said that the vaccine was expected to prevent at least 800 cases of severe malaria in children every day. The vaccine is also anticipated to ease the financial burden imposed by the disease, saving families at least 15,000 Ugandan shillings (US$ 4.18) per case.
“We might not realise its impact immediately, but in a year or two, people will see its benefit,” she said.
Odongo is likewise optimistic. “I am positive that with the introduction of the malaria vaccine, alongside other preventive measures, like the use of treated mosquito nets, integrated community case management of malaria, and larviciding, we shall reduce cases of children who die of malaria,” he said.
