Signs to tell if the person in your inbox, asking you to reblog a post with a link asking people to donate money for their sick pet or kid, is a scam
Before we start, a disclaimer that this is NOT a solid confirmation that this person must be a scammer. The intention of this is for you to be wary and always check before donating or rebloging this type of post.
Without further ado and from firsthand experience, here are the red flags:
The person in your inbox asking you to reblog a post with their donation link will always ask you NOT to publish the ask they sent you (but to only reblog their post), and their reasoning would always be something along the line of “I don’t want people to think I pressured you into doing it🥺”
But if you go to the person’s profile with their post asking for donation, 100% of the time, you’ll find that the account has only just been created days ago. — How can you tell this? Easy. You can literally scroll down to the first ever post of their blog in less than 10 seconds.
The thing these scammers have in common is that they will create a new blog and they WILL reblog some general posts, such as fandom posts, to make their blogs look legit. They will have legit profile pictures so they don’t look like bots. But it will always be a newly created blog with several reblogs (mostly about fandoms, because they know rebloging fandom posts will make them look more legit than if they were to reblog some suggestive photos of some women, since the latter will make them look like p0rn bots), and the only original post they made is that post asking for donation.
Move on to the information they provided about their sick pet or kid. They will provide thorough and detailed information to make it look legit. But the thing is that they could just take that from google or steal that information from someone who actually needed the donation. There is never a way to tell if your money will go directly to help save the pet or the kid. My advice is to google the patient’s name and see how old the case is, if the case of this patient with this name and this information has been used to ask for donation by other people before, etc.
The photo of the patient they gave can also help you determine if it’s legit. Save that photo and then use google image search to see if it’s an original photo or if it’s a stolen one that has been used before.
Bonus: the thing these scammers can’t do is provide updates about how the patient’s doing. So it’s only just one post with the link asking you for your money. If it is legit, you should be able to see consistent updates of how this patient is doing or if there’s any change, etc. (I’m not saying it’s a requirement for those whose loved one is in critical care to post updates on social media all the time, I’m simply pointing out that scammers tend to fail to provide any update because they can’t.)
I’ll always encourage donating and helping spread the posts of those who actually are in need, though it’s just so unfortunate that, while there are people who are genuinely struggling, there are a lot of scammers out there looking for an opportunity to take advantage of people’s kindness and using sick pet or kid as a way to scam people and making it more difficult for people who really need help to be taken seriously.
Last but not least, fuck those scammers. Stay safe y’all.

hey 🇭🇰Cantonese🇲🇴 learners!

I got recommended this keyboard App called TypeDuck🦆by anwar @ Insta that you may like to check out! (If you haven't heard of, or aren't already using, that is!)
Even though I have yet to try it (long story involving my phone being wonky so I can't install this for myself, for now), cantonese4parents @ Insta already has, and it's available on Playstore, so I'd expect it has been vetted safe enough!
Apparently if you use this keyboard to type out in 粵拼 Jyutping (Cantonese Romanisation, equivalent to Mandarin's Pinyin system), it will show you not only the Jyutping spelling but also the English meaning alongside the 漢字 Chinese characters! ↓
Besides English, it apparently supports some less common language translations like “Hindi, Nepali and Urdu” (quoting from their website) too.
Very useful I think, for anyone who's not good at recognising/mapping the 漢字 to the 粵拼 yet! 😺
Trivia: If you're wondering why this App is called “TypeDuck” 🦆, it's because it's a play on 打得 in Cantonese (Jyutping: daa² dak¹), which means “able to type”! Great pun! Yes? 😸

@crimethinc has a wonderful tumblr, but I'm honestly too frayed to find this within their archive. Still, buy their books, read their online pieces, they are great folks. I take off my Adrian M15 to them that I bought for purely recreational purposes (watching La Grand Illusion and Paths of Glory and crying).

I need everyone to stop typing =/=. The ≠ symbol already exists on your keyboard. Like how you can hold down e to get é, you can hold down = to get ≠.
And bonus fact: you can hold down 0 to get °.

It's time for Tiktok video of the day from my stash 🎶
We do something similar at home. Most of our lights turn red at sunset and then turn off at 10pm. We recreate the light routine we had on ship. At sundown, lights near the entrance of hatches turned red since, for some reason, red lights (im pretty sure a particular type) can't be picked up by other ships. Cruise ships do something similar to not be detected by terrorists.

you and your friends group come to an escape room.

when you were booking it, you didn’t know the quest's topic, the website only gave you a list of trigger warnings for each date to be aware of, and you chose the one that fitted.
the quest turnes out to be about clowns, and it sure is a bit creepy, but your comfort movie is “it”, so mostly you’re just having fun solving the puzzles. that is, before the lights start to blink in an unnatural way — in the dark, you notice that security cameras’ infrared lights are out, as well as sound effects and the background noise.
you can hear actors swearing quietly and leaving the room — their voices makes the whole situation less unnerving, — and then the lights are back on, and there's dispatcher’s voice through the speakers telling you to stay put and remain calm, that the system malfunctioned, and they’re coming to get you out.
not letting them finish the sentence, the lights are out again. you’re desperately trying to stay calm for the first couple of minutes, cracking jokes and complaining, but after you discover that one of your friends isn’t here, and the door is locked, panic totally creeps in.
the real quest begins.

I have been informed that most people did not go "why can't I find anything on my hard drive?!" at age 12 and then systematically rename all of their RPG sourcebook files to an optimal format cooked up in like twelve seconds, and then use that format for the rest of their lives for everything.
For those wondering what it is, it is somehow better than the file naming practices that the actual companies use.
It uses dashes instead of spaces, which serves the dual purposes of (1) being easily machine-readable and (2) allowing maximum laziness when taking files out of compressors.
It uses keywords, in an order that makes alphabetical sort put books of the same type in the same place while allowing you to easily find them by searching.
The incoherently inconsistent and keyword-less names the files come with are impossible to sort, and you pretty much just have to scroll through everything and open files to take cursory looks at them until you find the right one.
My system allows you to type in "gurps-spaceships" and find all eight items in the GURPS Spaceships series easily, then find the exact one you're looking for by glancing at the list for two seconds.
Somehow, a system I designed when I was twelve with the primary goal of laziness works better than the ones the files' developers came up with. SMH.
