Art Diaries : Getting back to painting

It’s been two months and three weeks since I picked the paint brush. I had to push myself to pick it up and when I finally did it on 7.02.24, I was nervous and terrified at the same time. My family doesn’t get it when I say I’m scared because as per them, it’s not like I have to prove myself to anyone or have a deadline to meet and who am I scared of, anyway? I’m scared of myself- of waking up…

Not perfect in any way, but I've been having fun. I've spent about an hour on the two pretty girls, while the statue is a little above two hours.

Folds are fun. I did however add an extra one to protect everyone from shocking statue nudity (the horror).

Art study week 4, enjoy!

I like using my watercolor journal as a playground for practice. Today it’s values. This is way out of my comfort zone but I’m embracing the challenge. I’ve been inspired all week by the beautiful shades of blue-violets and greens I photographed at a local blueberry farm recently. When I’m experimenting with new or difficult things I expect to feel discouraged. If I become overwhelmed I simply walk away. Sometimes fresh eyes are all the help I need when learning something new, other times I file the practice away and move on to more comfortable or accomplished tasks. In all things though, it’s baby steps.
