My grandmother is Japanese and really likes to give gifts. Often those gifts are Japanese desserts or other food, but sometimes she just slips me cash, folded up inside a tiny, beautiful envelope. But she likes to pretend she's not giving me money, so when possible, she'll hide it somewhere that I will find later.

Today I spent the afternoon with her doing chores and tech support, and she clearly felt this warranted a significant gift in return (no matter that I enjoyed myself). But she forgot to slip something into my pocket or bag before I left, so instead she rushed outside as I was starting my car, making the old-school "roll down the window" gesture. Once I complied, she was forced to acknowledge she was handing me money, but she also tried to minimize the gesture.

The result was that she said, "Thank you, dear! I just wanted you to be able to... to buy yourself a hamburger," and then handed me a darling little envelope that turned out to contain $100. And all I could think was:

Emmrich is pretty composed when you tell him that he's your first relationship. But he is flattered. Look at that little smile after the shock wore off and he looks back to Rook!

Ever the gentleman, he reassures Rook. But I see that flattered little expression, Emmrich! I'm onto you!

Sometimes the game's art style makes people look a little goofy, but whoever worked on Emmrich and his scenes was ON POINT 👌

Today marks 21 years since the CN City era and exactly 1 year since I started making CN CIty art. So, to celebrate both occasions and to sort of conclude this chapter of my art, I've created my largest piece to date!

Come! It's a party downtown, and you're invited! "This is Cartoon Network."

I want to thank everyone who's seen my art and interacted with it, liked it, shared it, etc. for the past year. It all means a lot to me! 🖤🤍 I might not be posting as much CN City from now on, but I will continue to post general Cartoon Network art indefinitely, some of which will be part of new projects. As always, here's the full renders of all 36 characters in this piece. No points for guessing why I stopped on this particular number, lol.

But wait, there's more!

I decided to make a list of all the CN characters to illustrate just how many of them I've drawn for the past year. This encompasses all the CN City art, the CN City adjacent art, like the Villains Bar, etc., all FusionLore thumbnails I've done so far and the last triple art style challenge piece, because all 3 of its characters didn't appear in any of the other drawings.

This all comes to a grand total of 48 CN cartoons + FusionFall + (not shown) 8 Disney and 10 Nick shows represented, among which there's 213 different characters that made an appearance (counting the Ben 10 variants of characters + Ben's aliens separately).

tho the original post was about IRL stuff, so it feels a bit weird making it into a silly fictional character thing x-x

It seems kind of weird from the vantage point of the 2020s that an original movie could ever get the same degree of cultural penetration as 'Star Wars' or 'Jaws' or 'Alien'. What do you suppose was the last original movie that came out such that everyone was kind of familiar with it, its characters, its settings, it plot beats, even if they hadn't personally seen it? When will we ever see the like again?
