Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : boyfriend!quinn x fem!reader wc. 1.2k
genre : extreme fluff no warnings
summary : you and quinn spend christmas eve together and it ends with a beautiful surprise
Tumblr media
the apartment smelled like sugar and cinnamon, warm and inviting. the faint hum of a christmas playlist played in the background, filling the air with soft jingles and cheerful tunes. it was december 24, and your favorite tradition with quinn hughes was in full swing: decorating cookies.
you sat cross-legged at the kitchen island, armed with piping bags filled with brightly colored icing, sprinkles scattered across the counter. quinn stood across from you, wearing an apron he’d claimed he didn’t need—though his flour-dusted hands and icing-streaked cheek suggested otherwise.
“alright, quinn-casso,” you teased, pointing at the lopsided tree he’d just decorated. the green icing was uneven, and the star looked more like a blob.
he held it up, feigning offense. “what? this is art. you just don’t get it.”
you laughed, snapping a picture with your polaroid camera. the flash caught him mid-eye-roll, flour still smudged on his cheek.
“add it to the collection,” you said, shaking the photo and setting it on the counter to develop.
the collection was an assortment of candid photos you’d been taking all month—quinn tangled in christmas lights, the two of you picking out a tree, him wearing the santa hat you’d forced on him. the pictures were scattered on the fridge, a chaotic but charming timeline of your holiday season together.
“fine,” quinn said, grabbing another cookie. “but if you’re going to document this, i’m going to make the best-looking snowman you’ve ever seen.”
you leaned on your elbow, watching him carefully pipe white icing onto the cookie. his tongue poked out slightly in concentration, a detail that made your heart swell.
“not bad,” you admitted as he added tiny sprinkle buttons.
“‘not bad’? that’s perfection,” he said, placing it on the tray with a satisfied grin.
you shook your head, laughing softly. “i guess i’ll give you that one.”
the two of you worked through the tray of cookies, decorating everything from candy canes to reindeer. you captured moments on your polaroid as you went: quinn sticking sprinkles on his nose to make you laugh, you holding up a cookie shaped like a heart, and the tray of finished cookies, a chaotic mix of skill and whimsy.
when the cookies were done, you both collapsed onto the couch with mugs of hot chocolate. the christmas tree twinkled softly in the corner, the ornaments catching the glow of the lights.
“i think we outdid ourselves this year,” quinn said, holding up a cookie shaped like a stocking.
“speak for yourself,” you teased, holding up one of your own. “mine are way better.”
he rolled his eyes, nudging your shoulder with his. “you’re lucky i love you.”
you smiled, leaning into him. “i know.”
⋆˙⟡
as the night wore on, the stack of polaroids grew. quinn had taken over the camera at some point, snapping pictures of you mid-laugh or caught off guard. one photo in particular made you laugh—a close-up of your face, icing smeared on your cheek.
“quinn! i wasn’t ready for that one!”
“that’s the point,” he said, smirking.
eventually, it was time for the part of the evening you both looked forward to the most: exchanging gifts.
“okay,” you said, hopping off the couch and grabbing a small, neatly wrapped box from under the tree. “you first.”
quinn set his mug down, his eyes lighting up as he took the box. “you know you didn’t have to get me anything, right?”
“yeah, yeah,” you said, waving him off. “just open it.”
he carefully unwrapped the box, lifting the lid to reveal a vintage hockey puck encased in glass. his jaw dropped.
“is this…”
you nodded, grinning. “it’s from your first-ever college game. i found it online, and the guy who had it was willing to sell. i thought you’d want to have it.”
he stared at it for a moment, his fingers brushing the glass. “this is amazing. thank you.”
his voice was soft, and when he looked up at you, his expression was full of gratitude. he set the puck down and leaned over to kiss you, his lips warm and lingering against yours.
“alright,” he said, pulling back. “your turn.”
he stood and grabbed a box from behind the tree. it was big, wrapped in shiny gold paper with a perfectly tied bow.
“wow,” you said, taking it from him. “someone went all out.”
“just open it,” he said, his grin mischievous.
you tore into the paper, lifting the lid to reveal… a polaroid camera. not just any camera, though—it was a custom design, your initials etched into the side, and the strap was embroidered with tiny snowflakes.
“quinn,” you breathed, running your fingers over the details.
“i know how much you love taking pictures,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. “so i thought you’d like something a little more special.”
you set the box aside and threw your arms around him, holding him tightly. “it’s perfect. thank you.”
for a moment, the two of you just stood there, wrapped in each other. the night felt perfect, like something out of a storybook.
“actually…” quinn pulled back slightly, a nervous edge to his voice.
“what?” you asked, your brow furrowing.
he reached into his pocket, and he took out a neatly wrapped box. it wasn’t the biggest gift, but there was something about the way he held it, his expression a mix of nerves and excitement, that made your heart race.
“quinn…” you started, but he cut you off with a small smile.
“here.”
you unwrapped the box carefully, lifting the lid to reveal a delicate silver ring. It wasn’t flashy, but it was beautiful, a small diamond set into the band, understated and perfect. your breath caught in your throat.
“it’s not what you think,” quinn said quickly, rubbing his left arm. it’s not… you know, that ring. not yet, anyway.”
you looked up at him, your heart pounding. “so it’s—”
“it’s a promise ring,” he said, his voice soft but steady. “i know we’re not there yet, but i wanted you to know how serious i am about us. that i want this—you—for the long haul. this is my way of saying i’m all in, even if we’re not at the finish line yet.”
tears pricked at the corners of your eyes as you stared at him, at the boyish grin on his face and the sincerity in his eyes.
“quinny…” you whispered, your voice trembling.
“i love you,” he said, reaching for your hand. “and i just wanted you to know that.”
you nodded, a tear slipping down your cheek as you let him slide the ring onto your finger. “i love you too. so much.”
he let out a breath, relief washing over his face as he pulled you into his arms. for a moment, the world outside disappeared, leaving just the two of you wrapped in each other.
when you finally pulled back, you held up your hand, admiring the ring. “this is perfect. you’re perfect.”
quinn smiled, brushing a thumb over your cheek. “i wouldn’t say perfect. my cookies were… mediocre.”
you laughed, swatting his arm. “hey, don’t ruin the moment.”
the night went on, filled with more moments that you knew you’d treasure forever. and as you sat there, leaning against quinn with the soft glow of the tree around you, you couldn’t help but think that this christmas was everything you’d ever wanted—and more.

Any other manifesters and shifters manifesting art skills, styles and knowledge out here like me?
Tumblr media
I am an artist, a creative writer, a musician, an amateur animator and a sucker for cinematography, and i just crave having the skills, knowledge and fundementals of art and animating in my bones already. Because I strive to understand and research for myself, to make up for my lack of experience. To explore and to know where to look to find the thing that will scratch that itch in my brain so i can develop my skills even more.
It's always been my dream since the womb days, to draw everything that came to mind... without the struggle. Like any other artist. I crave to envision something and put it on paper. To envision something and to put it on the screen. To envision something and to put it on a track. To be able to bring my art to life and to share my art with everyone, to impress everyone, to inspire others too and to help them find themselves with the knowledge and research I found a long the way. To speak through art when I can't find the words. To express my feelings when I don't know how to show them
Which is why, I am always an artist in every reality. Without fail, I script in my stacks of sketchpads and notebooks, my 2006 camera and my laptop on its last life like they are part of me. I script that I know everything i need to know to go crazy in the creative fields of art, music and cinematography. Which is also why I have an mha college au reality where I am taking a games and animation course, studying filmography as an indie animator and song artist just like I am here, so I can share my world and how I see the world through ink, pixels, music, lyricism and several different camera filters in another world that practically raised my childhood here.
I want to give back what "they" gave to me ‐ every single on of them ‐ through art, music and film. I don't just want to draw them, i want to capture them through my own eyes and present it to them as a thank you gift. Like i just blinked and told them "oh its nothing. thats just the way i experienced you". Without the stress. Just the flow. And I already know what i want to make. Please, I already have ideas on ideas of projects and pieces stored in this limitless mind of mine that im going to create for my audience, my close ones and myself. Which is why I'm done dreaming.
I'm embodying her. I'm embodying that version of me who already knows everything she needs to just go crazy on a project and be able to sit back after working on it for weeks on months, proud of the way it came out. Confident enough to submit her project, knowing she's got those five distinctions in the bag, like always. Confident enough to show it off to her audience, knowing they'll be amazed and inspired. Confident enough to present it to "them", ALL of them, and know they will be so so proud of me and flattered I made that for them.
Ofc, they don't know the full extent to why I put in all the effort for them. They don't need to. They just need to know how much they mean to me. And they mean months of restless nights, to make animation projects inspired by them that they never knew about, songs subliminally written about them which they also aren't aware of, stupid ideas I had of what they would be like inserted into my favourite media and a worlds worth of knowledge to get everything perfect, just right.
Did that even make sense??

The Speaker
The lights in the lecture theatre are more yellow than white, and the floor is carpeted with thin grey material. It makes the space in front of the seats feel more like a sparse living room than one of the largest halls on campus.
The lectern’s surface is a simple rectangle of wood, but does have enough space for his laptop to rest on. Connected to the screen, he’s free to move away from it with his Bluetooth clicker in hand. Resting on his cane with each alternate step, he makes his way over to the chair that rests alone at the front of the room, and sits. The cane hooks over its arm, and he props his leg out in front of him.
Gone are the days when he could claim only to have a bad ankle. Physio and surgery are behind him, and while the pain is lesser, it has spread as he’s aged. The years of compensating have left its mark on his knees, hips and back. He has never delivered a full lecture standing, and he probably never will.
He waits there, patient, as the students filter in. He likes this lecture hall for the lighting, but its main appeal is that the doors are on the sides instead of at the front, to one side of the projector screen. It allows him to observe as people enter.
This lecture is an annual event, and always attracts a range of attendees. Mostly he sees second- and third-year teens, and a rare keen first-year, still exploring their options and interested to learn. Occasionally he picks out an older student, although mostly it is impossible to tell whether they are undergraduates or higher up in the academic ladder.
Every year, the audience has more female and gender-nonconforming students. He enjoys seeing the shift and broaden of his field. Although there will always be a high proportion of nerd-aligned young men before him, he relates to both sides. Even now, he keeps his hair long enough to pass his shoulders, and wears a smart cardigan instead of a blazer.
Last of all to enter, forgivable because she also helped him set up, is Doctor Lee. She is probably the only student of astrophysics in the room, but she’s the one who asked him to start this yearly talk for Careers Week, so she’s honour-bound to attend. She wears a blazer, and it suits her well.
The students must never, ever know that they are not just friends, but exes.
He waits patiently for the room to settle, being careful to keep his shoulders relaxed. Then, he flicks the mic on.
For a moment he is gripped, as he often is, by the memory of a version of himself that could never have done this. He was, once, someone who couldn’t even speak aloud to a loved one in a private room. Raising his head, hair tied back, showing his face to the two or three hundred students in the seats…
Iz has climbed the central staircase and is sitting halfway to the top, right in the centre, as she always does. His eyes find her when they need a place to rest. His voice comes loose without a conscious effort.
“Good morning, everyone, and thank you for joining me. My name is Ellis Reece, and I’m a freelance full-stack web developer. I’m here to talk to you today about my field, and the careers and skills that relate to it.”
Another voice flickers in. Rule five.
He ignores it. “Let me start by telling you about what I do, before we explore related roles. I’ve been working as a freelancer on and off for twenty years. I started as a front-end developer, and quickly expanded to back-end, so I could pick up more work.”
He taps the clicker to progress to the next slide, which shows examples of his recent sites and clients. It stands in place of what other speakers usually give, which is more like a CV extract showing roles and skills undertaken. He prefers to let his work speak for himself, and always has.
Besides, those slides are often year by year, and his has a noticeable gap, near the beginning that would only distract them.
“I have also worked in some corporate positions,” he acknowledges, “and spent some time on software and UI teams. I will touch on those in a moment. For the majority of my career, I have been a solo developer, responsible for every aspect of a site design and implementation.”
Nic played a big part in writing his lines, although he knows them by heart these days. Self-promotion was never his strong suit. But facts are facts, after all.
Another comment from a voice. I don’t know what’s real. Nobody is close enough to have said it.
“I will be happy to answer questions about any of these experiences,” he adds. “As it is, my day consists of the technical work you would expect, alongside conversations with clients, collaboration with branding teams and other stakeholders, self-development and training courses, and, I’m sorry to admit, self-assessment tax returns.”
There is a reliable murmur of chuckling at the gentle quip.
He no longer admits, for me, the hardest aspect is the boundaries.
“Self-employment requires you to have knowledge in your chosen profession, but also administrative skills. The perks,” as the slide now shows, “include setting your own wage, taking holidays when you want them, more control over the work you do, and flexibility in where and when you work. The downsides…” He brings them on screen. A few of the quicker readers in the room grant him another soft laugh. “…are exactly the same. The boundaries, motivation, creativity and discipline all come from you and you alone.”
You don’t get boundaries, pet.
It’s no longer true.
Instead, as he often does, he pauses for early questions on self-employment, and then moves on to an additional point that draws non-compsci students to his talk year on year.
“Another underrated benefit of self-employment is how well it combines with self-advocacy. For example, my capacity for work fluctuates depending on my level of pain and how suitable my work environment can be made.” He moves his free hand to gently encircle the chair, cane and clicker. “When I worked as an employee in a team, I benefitted from their support, the structures of policies and HR, and accessible workplace wellbeing measures, including a useful occupational health referral. However, I made the decision to return to freelance and consulting to regain the ability to refuse work that would be detrimental to my health.”
The students before him will be picturing high workloads, horrible offices and inflexible bosses, and mostly, that is exactly what he means. They have no reason to think any different.
Another university reached out to him once to do this talk, and he declined. He told them he only did it at all as a personal favour, which was true. Their old economics guest lecturer was ancient history.
“This includes when work is offered to me, but also during the course of a project. I am fortunate to be in a position where I can, if needed, walk away from an employer who does not treat me as I deserve.”
It’s been years since he felt a flutter of nerves at saying those words. Instead, now, as he often does, he smiles with pride.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
20th October 2012 saw the twinning ceremony in Glenelg, complete with a live link to NASA, to celebrate the twinning of the village with Glenelg on Mars.
Scotland has a fine history of being the first nation to do this, or the only one to do that, and this story is no different.
The tiny Highland village of Glenelg (Earth) has the distinguished honour of being the only place on Earth to be “twinned” with a namesake on another planet!! It's a strange and unique story that started back in 2011 when NASA launched a rocket to Mars. The mission, to land the car sized rover, “curiosity” on the planet at a landing site named “Bradbury”. From there it would travel to its objective,a featured spot on the red planet they named “Glenelg”. The landing on August 6th, 2012 was like a sci-fi event in itself and eventually “curiosity” set course for Glenelg (Mars) with an estimated arrival date of October 20th, 2012.
To be honest there doesn’t usually need to be a huge reason to celebrate something in Glenelg with a Ceilidh but the then) entrepreneurial Local Development Officer Emma MacLean and a few other likeminded locals saw the opportunity to do more – much, much more!!
There were the normal simple, achievable ideas, then there were the silly ones, “lets get a USA astronaut to come over and open it”, “how about a live link into NASA”, “what about a stack of telescopes” and maybe “getting the Astronomer Royal for Scotland to come”, oh, and “what about a Martian Ceilidh?!!”
And of course they went for the silly ones – and made them happen!! Offices and boardrooms in a small village like Glenelg tend to be, either peoples kitchens or the dining room in the Inn (the preferred venue for meetings as it’s licensed!). Several people quickly lost their cooking space as laptops, printers and phones took over the kitchen worktops. Needless to say in these cases, it’s often a few people that made a lot happen but they were backed up by many more as the local groups within the community clubbed their skills together to produce the Space, Stars and Mars event.Much was done in a few short weeks but a few days before the day, things really took off.
What followed was media coverage, trucks and delivery lorries, TV cameras and interviewers. Last minute panics!! Construction of a 500 seater venue plus other marquees to host the catering, hog roast and Glenelg Geocache registration point. There were also wires, lots and lots of wires. Given that in Glenelg, like so many places in the Highlands, have very poor signal coverage for mobile phones (none at the venue) and the broadband was slooooooooow it was always going to be a challenge. The “Live Link” to Doug McCuistion, the Director of the Mars Exploration Program in NASA was finally, and very tenuously joined by a thin 300 foot cable stretched across the football pitch and childrens play park into the nearest cottage where it was plugged into a BT router – and it worked!!
The Space, Stars and Mars “opening” and Glenelg “twinning” was conducted by Dr. Bonnie Dunbar, Prof John Brown and Emma Maclean cutting the ribbon. For the main event the marquee was full as Prof John Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland introduced the talks. The “live link” held as Doug and NASA put on a fascinating presentation of the Mars missions, past, present and future, and included mock up photos comparing Glenelg (Earth) with Glenelg (Mars). At the end, the audience, including many of the local primary school children fired questions at Doug which he enthusiastically answered before the link was eventually closed and the floor passed over to Dr Bonnie Dunbar, a veteran astronaut of 5 shuttle flights accumulating in over 50 days in space. She gave an enthralling story of her life and how she became an astronaut and also her views on how space travel and exploration will evolve in the future. Finally a stunning sign was unveiled by Bonnie Dunbar and John Brown “Honoring the historic journey of NASA’S Rover ‘Curiosity’ to Glenelg, Mars”.
All in all the Space, Stars and Mars event was a great success showing what a group of people in a small village can achieve. And that’s how Glenelg (Earth) became “twinned” with Glenelg (Mars)!
As for the “Martian Ceilidh”, well after all that work you have to let your hair down a bit and needless to say, it was very, very quiet in Glenelg the next day!!
The specially commissioned “Space, Stars and Mars” sign can be seen on the side of the Glenelg Community Hall and the “Twinned with Glenelg (Mars)” road sign can be see when driving into Glenelg
A final poignant mention: 500 “goody” bags were filled with lots of great gifts, one of which was a flash drive which included a recorded message to the people of Glenelg from the late, great Patrick Moore, wishing them all the best for the Space, Stars and Mars day. This is one of the last recordings he made before passing away just a few weeks later.

Polaroid
word count: 937
-
billy documents his abuse with polaroids
-
Billy is the only person awake right now.
He’s using the dim light of his lamp to take photos of himself, all at different angles. Some of his full body and some with close ups.
He smiles in the photo, grins widely and shows his teeth. He feels a bit deranged but it’s probably the best time to take photos like this.
He shakes the polaroids as they come out of the camera and watch them develop. Watch the pictures of himself come through and then writes the date on the bottom of them and adds them to the stack.
November 5th 1985.
His bruised face stares back at him. A black eye from Harrington doesn’t count but it adds to the fact. He writes that on the back to make sure he remembers. The cuts on his eyebrow and the dried blood from his nose do count.
He doesn’t know how many pictures he has of himself. Doesn’t want to know how many there are in the first place because then it feels even more real. They date back years but he never goes back and looks at the photos. The polaroid camera had been his mothers, one of the only things she left behind and it’s almost like she knew what was going to happen. If she knew what would happen, why didn’t she take him with her?
He puts the camera back in its hiding spot alongside the photos and goes to sleep.
Sometimes he thinks about taking the camera out and about like Jonathan Byers does. He thinks he could make a pretty good photographer at this point and the idea of spending time alone in the dark room sounds appealing. He could go out into the forest that gives him the creeps and take photos of the vines and trees that stand tall above him. Of the loneliness he feels and if Billy Hargrove screamed in the forest and no one was around, would anyone hear it?
But then he looks at his camera and what it’s really for. Evidence. He doesn’t know if he’s going to turn it in anytime soon, he’s so close to freedom. So close to being 18 and he can leave and forget this place ever existed.
But he likes to have the option because sometimes he thinks he won’t make it to 18 in the first place.
Some of the photos are quite beautiful in a dark and twisted way. A macabre way. Because Billy is quite beautiful, everyone tells him that. He has muscles and long blonde hair and striking eyes. He uses his bedside light so there are shadows and close ups showing his muscles twisting in different angles. He could ace photography class with this if he wouldn’t immediately be sent to the school counselor.
Sometimes it goes weeks without a photo being taken. Sometimes it starts to get dust on the surface and he’s delusional in thinking that he never has to pick it up again. Because once he starts getting comfortable, he lets his guard down and Neil can strike. And he does.
He blows the dust off of the camera, wincing as the movement pulls at the cut on his split lip and turns it around so he can get the best angle for his face. It’s a skill he’s mastered over the years, he knows the precise angles he needs to get his full face, where it needs to be placed so it can focus on one area. What a shitty party trick.
He doesn’t smile for this photo, instead chooses to look off camera with his right hand holding his head up and angling his head to get the split lip and the bruising around his eye while subtly showing his knuckles are not in fact scuffed up like everyone expects them to be.
He writes down the date at the bottom, looks at it for a moment longer and adds it to the pile.
-
Billy’s tired. He’s so tired.
He doesn’t have anything else to lose at this point.
He takes another polaroid of the bruises around his neck, prominent and purple. Shrugs his shirt off and takes another of his chest where there’s horrifying bruises in the shape of boots. Angles the camera to show off a bald spot on the side of his head.
Then he puts all the photos in a bag and climbs out his window. It’s Sunday afternoon and his family are at church, church where he is not welcomed.
He walks with his head down to the police station and asks to speak to the chief. The receptionist says no so Billy looks up and she changes her answer to yes. Takes him over to the door with “Chief Hopper” on the door and knocks. Then nods her head at Billy and leaves him to it.
He feels like running but he’s been running for so long that his legs are dead. So he opens the door and steps into the room. The Chief frowns at him when he looks up and yeah, he probably deserves that given his reputation.
He forces himself to walk over to the desk and drops the paper bag of polaroids on the desk. Some of them spill out and the Chief gathers them without looking before he takes a glance. His frown deepens as he shuffles through the stack, pausing to look closer at some and read the dates. He then reaches into the bag and pulls out more and only then does his frown lessen and he looks up at Billy Hargrove in a whole new light.
Billy swallows nervously and looks up from where he’d been staring at the floor.

I decided to make this blog as a blueprint for someone like me. Someone who has dreams of financial freedom, as well as freedom of time. Someone who wants a life where they can spend time with their family and show up in the ways needed by their kids but also needs to put food on the table and pay for vacations. If you just heard about bug bounty, cyber security, web penetration testing, red teaming, or any other number of terms used and feel like it might be a good fit for you, I'm going to spend the rest of my very first post telling you why you're wrong. If by the end of it you disagree with me, you're probably cut out to be a hacker. My opinion is specific to hacking web applications, and I consider myself a future specialist in API hacking. Firstly hacking websites is extremely technical. Even a basic understanding of how a full stack application functions requires you to have a basic understanding of about 3-5 programming languages, and how they all interact with each other. Beyond that you need to understand the hardware at play these various languages are using to talk with. I'm using extremely simple terms here but hopefully you get the idea. Developing a hackers mindset I honestly think just isn't for everyone. I don't care what anyone says I believe there is a certain amount of emotional maturity required to be a successful hacker. I say this because the process of developing the skills I just mentioned takes a long time. For a genius I'd expect at least a year of dedicated study to become a credited rookie hacker. You don't just need to be intelligent though, you need to be a good learner. Cyber Security is a constantly evolving field that demands you be a life long student. If you don't love it, you'll burn out fast. You're also up against AI, so you better be ready to be a pro if you wanna make it. This means discipline despite motivation. Further proof of the requirement for emotional maturity. Additionally you're not gonna see much fruit from your labor for quite some time. You won't make money along the way as you acquire this skill. If that's what you're after, go learn a trade. If after reading this you're thinking something like "I don't care, I still want to learn," congrats. You're probably gonna be a great hacker. In my next few posts I'll talk about important first steps, and how to take them. If you read this far, I love you.

Navigating the Complex World of Mobile App Development
In today’s tech-driven world, mobile apps have become a cornerstone of how we connect, work, and play. Whether you’re launching a startup or enhancing an established business, building a mobile app can be a game-changing move. One of the most important decisions you’ll face is choosing the right technology stack. The tech stack you pick will directly influence your app’s performance, scalability, and overall user experience.
What Exactly Is a Tech Stack?
A tech stack is essentially the set of tools, programming languages, and frameworks you use to build your app. For mobile apps, the stack typically consists of three main components:
Front-End: This is what users see and interact with — the app’s interface.
Back-End: This is the engine under the hood — handling data storage, processing, and integrations.
Platform: The operating system your app is built for, like iOS, Android, or both.
Key Considerations When Picking a Tech Stack
Let’s dive into the options and what you should think about when deciding which tools to use.
Platform Options
Native Development
Languages:
iOS: Swift or Objective-C
Android: Kotlin or Java
Pros:
Best-in-class performance.
Full access to device features like cameras, sensors, and GPS.
Cons:
Higher costs.
Longer development time if building for both iOS and Android.
2. Cross-Platform Development
Frameworks:
React Native (JavaScript and React)
Flutter (Dart)
Xamarin (C#)
Pros:
Faster development.
Reusable code for both iOS and Android.
Generally lower costs.
Cons:
Slightly lower performance compared to native apps.
Limited access to some advanced native features.
3. Hybrid Development
Tools:
Ionic (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
PhoneGap/Cordova (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
Pros:
Easy to learn and work with if you’re familiar with web development.
Leverages standard web technologies.
Cons:
Performance is not as strong as native or well-optimized cross-platform apps.
User experience can feel less “native.”
How to Make the Best Choice for Your App
Your decision will depend on several factors. Here are some key points to consider:
App Complexity:
For simple apps, cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter are great choices.
For feature-heavy or complex apps, native development might be the way to go.
Time to Market:
If you’re on a tight schedule, cross-platform tools can speed up the process.
Budget:
Native development can be pricey since you’ll likely need separate teams for iOS and Android.
Cross-platform and hybrid options are usually more cost-effective.
Performance Needs:
Native apps deliver the best performance, but modern cross-platform frameworks have come a long way and can handle most needs efficiently.
Team Expertise:
Leverage the skills your team already has. If they’re experienced in JavaScript, for example, React Native might be a natural fit.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right tech stack is a pivotal step in mobile app development. It’s about finding the perfect balance between your project’s requirements, your budget, and your team’s expertise. By weighing factors like app complexity, performance, and cost, you can make a well-informed choice that sets your app up for success. Remember, a solid tech stack is the foundation of a scalable, user-friendly, and high-quality app.

Kim SeonHo for ELLE MEN Singapore Issue 05 2023 - Full Interview
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kim Seon Ho Keeps Going On
Farisia Thang
The beloved South Korean actor is back and taking things one day at a time — starting with his debut as a villain.
Tumblr media
Every movie needs a good villain — but that's a role that not just anyone can pull it off. Especially when the cards are not stacked in your favour. Kim Seon Ho knows this well.
Having always played heroic roles (Hong Du Sik, literally the neighbourhood hero in Hometown Cha Cha Cha or charming second leads who win over the audience's affection, Han Ji Pyeong in Start-Up and Jung Jae Yoon in 100 Days My Prince), there was a certain image that became expected of the South Korean actor. Before taking on the Nobleman in The Childe, it would have been irreconcilable to picture him as a villain, much less an antagonist. Not because there was any doubt in his acting skills, but because it never would have occurred to the masses to cast a man who has been given the endearing nickname "good boy" to play a Machiavellian assassin. Even the director of The Childe Park Hoon Jung didn't see the fit when he first looked at the actor's profile as he thought, "This face is not for noir."
But Kim has always been one to rise to the challenge. Let us not forget that before he was a TV actor, he was a familiar face in the theatre industry. And though it was only at 31-years-old that he debuted in his first TV drama, his so-called big break came three years later with shows like Start-Up and Hometown Cha Cha Cha. This is the way things go: Just when you think he has reached the height of his career, he keeps proving otherwise.
And that is exactly what he's done in The Childe.
Tumblr media
Even if it wasn't a comeback role from his two-year hiatus, it still stands as an impressive film debut on its own. This marks Kim's first big screen role and for that reason alone, the Nobleman remains one of his favourite characters. "All of the characters I've played are special to me and I cherish them all, but a memorable character would be my most recent role in The Childe as Nobleman since it was my film debut," says Kim. "I still vividly remember the excitement and nerves I felt seeing my character on the big screen for the first time."
As it is with most of his roles, he runs through a routine. "I usually take a fairly long time to understand one character. I would choose about three or four lines that I like from a script, and then repeat them over and over again in my head. This could be when I'm walking, when I'm in the shower, or when I'm eating." Kim adds, "Sometimes I also make use of music. would put on some good music, put myself in front of a stunning view, and then read out the lines. And as I do that, there would be moments where I realise, 'This is it. This is how this character would say it. From that point onwards, everything else falls into place itself. For this method to work and in order to get closer to a character, studying the script in detail has to come first. It's important to have a good grasp of a character's language and habits.
With the Nobleman, details maketh man. He says, "I developed my character by studying the lead character from A Clockwork Orange, and I spent plenty of time trying to understand my character as Nobleman." Just like he had done many times before, Kim learned new skills to better embody his character. "I got to learn about using handguns for acting for the first time. I did some practice at a shooting range in Myeongdong and I was given a dummy too, so I was able to practice and have a feel of it. That helped me a lot during the actual filming."
Tumblr media
To simply call the Nobleman a villain would reduce the character to a flat trope, but Kim's performance and interpretation of him are actually for more nuanced. This is a character who gets imitated by his shoes being dirtied with blood after killing a room full of people, curses with a sadistic smile in an American accent and British accent, chases after the hero while hollering — and yet manages to confuse the audience with whose side he is actually on. Ultimately, Kim's portrayal of the Nobleman brings to life a brutal yet whimsical anti-hero.
And yet, the actor still struggles to pinpoint a moment during The Childe's filming process that he felt proud of himself for. In past interviews, he scrutinised his performance for the movie. Even now, he laughs as he says, "To be honest, it's hard for me to point out areas that I did well in. In my eyes, I mostly see only my shortcomings. Thankfully enough, people who went to see the movie had lots of positive feedback. I was glad and thankful to be praised as a fluid actor."
Fluid is the perfect word here, and yet it still feels like an understatement to the actor's performance. If his previous roles solidified his expected trajectory as an actor, then this character turned it all around - reminding us all that Kim has been honing his craft for over a decade now. He has been finessing this duality for almost 14 years, and while others may rest on their laurels and rely on their experience in the industry to get by, Kim is always looking for ways to better himself.
Tumblr media
His recent projects have been movies and because of that "I'm not as pressured having to film a large amount of scenes in a short time as compared to other mediums. The directors told me to take my time between lines, which showed me the art of slowing down." He goes on to say, "When I was younger, I was also taught to enjoy the pauses between each line. I did think that I was already doing so with my acting for dramas, but the mechanics of movies and dramas are still very much different. So I've recently been working on how I can savour those pauses even more." Looking back at the Kim Seon Ho who started acting 14 years ago, the 37-year-old feels envious of his past self. "I'm envious of the experience and how raw my acting was back then. I recently rewatched some of my previous work. In the past, if I were to rewatch something a year later, all I could think about was how inadequate my acting was before. But seeing it again after 10 years makes me realise that that kind of raw acting was something I could do only back then."
Tumblr media
Now, what he is able to appreciate about his approach to acting is. that "I'm a lot more composed and poised. My acting was often carried away by emotions in the past, but I think that my acting now has become more rational. I feel that this kind of rationality is also what makes me grow. After all, Kim knows a thing or two about alchemising patience into gold. While he started acting in plays at the age of 23, it was only eight years later that he made his debut on the small screens. But he has never been one to measure his trajectory against his counterparts in the industry. Waiting has always been a welcomed ritual for the actor, and Kim knows it's to that good things take time.
It's like his Hometown Cha Cha Cha character Hong Du Sik said, "Life isn't so fair for all of us. Some spend their whole lives on unpaved roads, while some run at full speed only to reach the edge of a cliff." It's a line that hits close to home for Kim too. "Coincidentally enough, I happened to re-watch that scene just three days before this interview, I searched for the scene randomly one day because I suddenly got curious about the kind of expression and tone I shot that scene with. Through that scene, rather than discovering elements about myself, I focused more on how I could get closer to Chief Hong. But there were moments where I did feel that I was becoming a better version of myself, like when I was preparing for the drama, after wrapping up the filming, and when I met other great characters." He adds, "People say that each word you say and each action you do creates one's character and personality. I think I got to learn a lot through the lines of my past characters like Han Ji Pyeong and Chief Hong, and thanks to them, I am the person I am now."
Tumblr media
During his two-year break from acting on-screen, he remained loyal to his earlier comforts — stage acting. While he stayed off social media and film projects, he went back to his roots and performed in the theatre with Touching the Void. In that period of time, "I found comfort in the fact that one has the ability to create a change if they could just think a little differently in times of trouble." He continues, "I felt grateful to be able to share a stage with other talented actors, and I had fun. Touching The Void was a project where I discovered that the results of something can be very different depending on my perspective on a particular situation and on the support I receive. Most of all, I was moved and comforted by the audience members who came to watch the play even though things were difficult due to the pandemic. I was honored to be able to perform such a remarkable piece of work for the audience, and it inspired me to become an even better actor."
In life and in work, Kim believes himself to be a dreamer. "I am someone who thinks that we must dream big, and I'm happiest when I come close to the goals I've set. Rather than setting a realistic goal but still feeling unsatisfied even after accomplishing it, I find more joy when I set big goals and accomplish it to a certain extent. When he considers his dreams for the distant future, "My goal is for people to remember me as a skilled actor and to be an actor that people want to work with a second time." But for now, his ambitions are straightforward — "I want to try a role that feels real and warm, one that others can relate to."
Tumblr media
When he looks back at his career, there is only one thing he can really say he's proud of over the years. "Instead of feeling proud of my own accomplishments, I feel a stronger sense of pride towards the people that have been there for me since the days before I became an actor. Seniors, juniors and directors who gave me advice so I could pass the audition for my first project, agency colleagues who worked tirelessly until I got my first lead role, and my fans who supported my career as an actor. These are people that I'm thankful for and proud of every moment." He continues, "I often have thoughts like, 'How was I able to meet such incredible people?', 'How did I get so lucky to receive such advice from my seniors at this timing?', 'How is it that all these great people. are rooting for me?' Thanks to these people, there have been so many moments in my career that have made me proud that I cannot single out a specific achievement."
His gratitude grounds him because if there's one thing Kim has leamed, it's to take nothing for granted. With the love he's received from fans and friends in the industry, he hopes to return it tenfold. "I hope to repay the love with my acting and to successfully wrap up current projects. By doing so, I think I would be able to welcome 2024 with a happy heart." What that looks like these days is a running list of plays, dramas, and films. And while he's busy with his ongoing projects, for now, "I will be focusing on the upcoming mystery drama Mangnaein. Although I don't know what the future has in store for me, I will work hard to live my best each day."
Tumblr media
When he thinks about the actor he wants to be remembered for, he considers the weight of his answer. "Not too long ago, I felt that I was on a plateau so I reflected a lot on it and I'm getting back on my feet again now." He goes on to say, "I hope to be remembered as an actor who constantly improves. (Of course, for that to happen, a lot of effort is needed on my part.) And I hope people think of me as an actor who is always growing, and as an actor who has the potential for even more growth. I hope to refine my craft a little more."
Because at the end of the day, Kim Seon Ho knows when to walk away from comparison. He's never bothered to measure himself to others, and he has no plans to start now. Instead, he holds himself to his own standards. And the version of him today is content to take things as they come, to better himself with every passing day. After all, if there's one thing we know for certain, it's that whatever accomplishments he's made so far are only a step to greater things to come.

Understanding Full Stack Development
What is Full Stack Development?
Full Stack Development involves working on both the front-end (client-side) and back-end (server-side) of web applications. Full stack developers handle everything from designing the user interface (UI) to managing databases and server logic. They are versatile professionals who can oversee a project from start to finish.
Key Skills Required for Full Stack Development
To become a full stack developer, you need a diverse set of skills, including:
Front-End Technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are the fundamental building blocks of web development. Additionally, proficiency in front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js is crucial for creating dynamic and responsive web interfaces.
Back-End Technologies: Understanding back-end programming languages like Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, or PHP is essential for server-side development. Additionally, knowledge of frameworks like Express.js, Django, or Spring can help streamline development processes.
Databases: Full stack developers must know how to work with both SQL (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases.
Version Control and Collaboration: Proficiency in tools like Git, GitHub, and agile methodologies is important for working in a collaborative environment.
Job Opportunities in Full Stack Development
Full stack developers are in high demand due to their versatility. Companies often prefer professionals who can handle both front-end and back-end tasks, making them valuable assets in any development team. Full stack developers can work in:
Web Development
Mobile App Development
Enterprise Solutions
Startup Ecosystems
The flexibility to work on multiple layers of development opens doors to various career opportunities. Moreover, the continuous rise of startups and digital transformation initiatives has further fueled the demand for full stack developers.
Benefits of Choosing Full Stack Development
High Demand: The need for full stack developers is constantly increasing across industries, making it a lucrative career choice.
Versatility: You can switch between front-end and back-end tasks, giving you a holistic understanding of how applications work.
Creativity: If you enjoy creating visually appealing interfaces while also solving complex back-end problems, full stack development allows you to engage both creative and logical thinking.
Salary: Full stack developers typically enjoy competitive salaries due to their wide skill set and ability to handle various tasks.
Understanding Software Testing
What is Software Testing?
Software Testing is the process of evaluating and verifying that a software product or application is free of defects, meets specified requirements, and functions as expected. Testers ensure the quality and reliability of software by conducting both manual and automated tests.
Key Skills Required for Software Testing
To succeed in software testing, you need to develop the following skills:
Manual Testing: Knowledge of testing techniques, understanding different testing types (unit, integration, system, UAT, etc.), and the ability to write test cases are fundamental for manual testing.
Automated Testing: Proficiency in tools like Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or Cucumber is essential for automating repetitive test scenarios and improving efficiency.
Attention to Detail: Testers must have a keen eye for identifying potential issues, bugs, and vulnerabilities in software systems.
Scripting Knowledge: Basic programming skills in languages like Java, Python, or JavaScript are necessary to write and maintain test scripts for automated testing.
Job Opportunities in Software Testing
As the demand for high-quality software increases, so does the need for skilled software testers. Companies are investing heavily in testing to ensure that their products perform optimally in the competitive market. Software testers can work in:
Manual Testing
Automated Testing
Quality Assurance (QA) Engineering
Test Automation Development
With the rise of Agile and DevOps methodologies, the role of testers has become even more critical. Continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines rely on automated testing to deliver reliable software faster.
Benefits of Choosing Software Testing
Job Security: With software quality being paramount, skilled testers are in high demand, and the need for testing professionals will only continue to grow.
Quality Assurance: If you have a knack for perfection and enjoy ensuring that software works flawlessly, testing could be a satisfying career.
Automated Testing Growth: The shift toward automation opens up new opportunities for testers to specialize in test automation tools and frameworks, which are essential for faster releases.
Flexibility: Testing provides opportunities to work across different domains and industries, as almost every software product requires thorough testing.
