just a PSA to ALWAYS RESEARCH HERBS/PLANTS BEFORE PUTTING THEM IN YOUR BODY
did you know that st john's wort can induce serotonin syndrome? which is life threatening (and very painful!!) btw
did you know that red raspberry leaf can worsen hormonal imbalances and irregular menstrual cycles?
did you know that ginger (yes!! that ginger!! the one that's in every other tea recipe out there!!) can thin your blood? which can be life threatening for people with certain conditions
and there's so much more this community as a whole should be aware of, especially when considering herbs to consume or apply to the skin
the resource i use most often is just this wikipedia article, although you should do individual research just to double check
i don't make this post to try to induce widespread fear of herbal remedies/a good ol herbal tea now and then, im just saying that not everything natural is good for you, and sometimes modern medicine is right. always consider consulting a physician before self-medicating or trying potentially harmful substances

Modern witch tips ✨️
Apartment rules edition
Many people live in apartments where you have a shit ton of rules to follow. Here are some tips <3 (coming from a witch who is prepping to move into one)
No candles/open flames/smoke? You can use fake candles for the vibe, wax melts for the smell (can be decorated like you would a candle), just spray air fresheners (you can make your own for cleansing, using moonwater, vinegar, and certain herbs), or cleanse with sound (using bells, music, singing, incantations, etc)
Use command strips/hooks to hang your decor.
No/limited window space? If you're trying to charge via moon or sun, you can sit the things in your car (if it is safe to do so)
Simmer pots are a great tool as well, they smell great, no flame, no smoke and you could even toss them in a slow cooker and not have to watch it.
Hang cinnamon above your doors/windows (or put a single stick on top of the frame) to keep out negativity
WITCHES BELLS ON YOUR DOOR. This is a safety thing. My mom hung a bell on a string for our dogs to ring to use the bathroom, and it's stuck with me, because if anyone tries to open your door, you will hear it. Make it witchy by doing witches bells for protection.
Cleanse and ward your space, lock your mirrors and your windows and your doors (spiritually and physically)
Sprinkle salt on your doorstep to keep negativity out
Windchimes/suncatchers to keep energy positive
Paint or draw sigils on the underside of your rugs/decor/artwork to keep your space safe
Sweep from the inside out, start at the far end and go to the front door, that way you're moving the stale energy out of your place.
If the weather is nice and you feel safe enough, open the windows/blinds and let the air/sunshine/moonlight in. Let it cleanse or charge your space.
No mats or signs that say "welcome" or anything like that -> it's said that malevolent spirits will take that as an invitation into your place, and in an apartment its probable it'll get stolen anyway

Beginner Witch's Guide: Crystals
Today's witchy lesson is on crystals! Specifically, crystal shapes and their meanings, types of crystals and their meanings, and what you can use crystals for in your practice!
---
Basic Crystals and Their Meanings:
Clear Quartz -> Clear quartz is known for its ability to amplify intention and magnify the energy of other stones around it
Selenite -> Selenite is good for cleansing and purifying the area and objects around it
Amethyst -> Amethyst provides a peaceful and relaxing energy
Carnelian -> Carnelian is known for boosting creative energy and allowing for better creative flow
Rose Quartz -> Rose quartz is known for supporting and amplifying love of all kinds (self love, romantic love, platonic love, etc.)
Pyrite -> Pyrite (also known as 'Fool's Gold') is known for drawing in success and fortune
Obsidian -> Obsidian sucks in negative energy from the surrounding space providing protection from unwanted energies and negativity
---
Crystal Shapes and Meanings:
Cube -> Cube shaped crystals are often tied to grounding and would be good to use during meditation or meditative spellwork.
Sphere -> Sphere shaped crystals are thought to be more balanced with the energy they emit, splitting it evenly in all directions. They are good to use in grounding work (like meditation) or for protective spells/energy.
Pyramids -> Pyramid shaped crystals are most commonly associated with the idea of communing with celestial bodies or with the universe. Pyramid shaped crystals would be beneficial to use in deity worship or working with deities for spellwork.
Tower/Point -> Tower and point shaped crystals are known to amplify intention and point it in a certain direction. In my opinion, they are the most universally helpful shape and so can be used for a variety of spells.
Palm Stones -> Palm Stones are flat disks of stone that can be placed in one's palm and are often used to provide soothing energy. When placed in the palm they can be rubbed to provide therapeutic relief in moments of anxiety.
Cluster -> A cluster is a mix between a sphere and a point. The energy is emitted in all directions, but not evenly. They are most beneficial for spells and powers you want amplified, but don't need to be even or concentrated in one particular area.
---
General Crystal Tips:
When purchasing crystals, make sure the ones you are buying are coming from reputable, ethical sources and are actual crystals!
Before letting any crystal come in contact with the sun or with water, make sure it is safe to do. Some crystals are known to leech harmful chemicals or elements into water when submerged while some will just erode away in minutes. Some crystals can also fade if left in direct sunlight for a long time (amethyst is one of these so keep that in mind!)
If you do not like working with crystals, think something works better for you than crystals, or simply are just not interested in working with crystals, they are not necessary for the craft! Crystals (like any other witchy tool) are optional but can not only provide useful energies or attributes, but also just look super cool and are great to put on altars or in spaces around your home!
---
Well, that's all for my beginners guide to crystals! There are so many more crystals out there with their own unique shapes, attributes and energies that I suggest going and doing more research as you start to collect crystals! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out, I love talking to people and love making new friends <3
Valete my friends! :3

How to organize your grimoire [upg]
Putting Together Your Grimoire/Book of Shadows
Over my time putting together my grimoire, I’ve seen a lot of different people put together their lists of “everything you need in your grimoire”. While I don’t believe that everyone needs to write a world-renowned magical encyclopedia (see the linked post below by @queer-tech-seer), I do want everyone to have a good idea of where to put the information that they do put in their grimoire.
See this post for how I organize my grimoire
Firstly, you need an introduction section. This goes at the beginning of the book and can include things like:
your devotion to the craft
a short daily mantra
a quick list of your most-accessed info
name the kinds of crafts you practice and focus on
your code of conduct/ethics
a protection spell
your zodiac signs, life number, and tarot card
Second, you need info about your craft. This can be anything like:
lunar magick
nature/green magick
hearth magick
urban magick
crystal magick
You may also want to include activities/interests for each type of magick.
If you’re interested in crystal magick, you should check out my Witchy Boxes! @moonstone-magick
Third, you need your recipes.
spell jars
food and drinks
incense + burn sticks
sachets
even crystal grid patterns, anything with steps!
This post has a few of my favorite recipes
Fourth, you need rituals.
blessings
cleansings
prayers
energy work
sigil spells
Fifth, put any information about the kinds of divination you practice, if any.
tarot
omens
numerology
tasseomancy
cartomancy
psychic abilities
I usually write hedge-riding/astral travel also in this section.
Sixth, write your beliefs.
What specific beliefs you subscribe to
What deities you honor/work with (if any)
Your worldviews
Your thoughts about the creation or the afterlife
And that’s basically it!
Farewell and good tides! 💜
Branwen
