-The idea of Ambrosius' never wanting to let anyone hold him gave me the idea of Gregor becoming a velcro baby (very attached to Ambrosius) which then translated to not just Ambrosius' arms but anyone's arms (and then gave me the idea of, them at the table eating or something and passing the baby from one's arms to the other's so they can eat in peace for a while and simply it working like that until he's a toddler 😭) (sorry I just like to pick other people's headcanons and add in my headcanons in their AU, in my mind JSKDHD 😭 I hope that's okay ª)

-ALSO y'know how you mentioned in one of Gregor's posts about him having something (I can't quite remember the exact name🧍) but Ambrosius blaming himself for that? I thought what if he thought that bc babies when they are months old think of their closest parent as themselves (until they start to realize they're a different being themselves, so if they're sad they understand that they themselves must be sad and stuff ? As I understand it) but AA Ambrosius simply experiences emotions and stuff and Gregor imitating him. rant about True Detective (Season 1 vs Night Country) follows below, bc i don't have anywhere else to post this so it's going here now (it is long and incoherent so dont say i didn't warn you)

i can't think of a tv show i've been more ashamed of falling madly in love with than the first season of True Detective

i suppose i couldn't have known at the time, and it was a confluence of various things that made it as exciting/captivating/whatever as it was to me back then (i think that was probably the saturation point of my enjoyment of edgy antiheroic tv nonsense), many of those things which have nothing to do with the guy who wrote it (who seems to be coming across lately as an enormous prick)

it's slightly cold comfort to see folks attributing some of the most memorable parts of that season to other writers as well (Thomas Ligotti, Alan Moore), and obviously credit goes to Fukunaga and the actors who made the characters as memorable as they were...

it just felt in some ways like the writing was kind of on the wall in terms of the ultra-machismo, (retrospectively) high school nihilism of TD S1 and also of his novel Galveston, which I read whilst being swept up in the wave of TD fan fervor, and on the one hand it can be pretty crass to dismiss a work out of hand just because its subject matter/thematic overtones deal with edgy machismo nonsense, but in this case i guess it telegraphed the author's intent and personality rather transparently...

there were other red flags along the way in terms of Pizzo having clashed with Fukunaga on set and being petty about it afterwards... and, again, perhaps it's unfair to believe that someone's personal political beliefs are an indicator of their capacity to behave in a moral way, but it feels like in this day and age we're kind of getting to that point now lmao and i remember seeing posts about the kind of political beliefs the guy could very well have had... which again, somehow doesn't surprise me.

so the fact that he's melting down in this embarrassing man-baby fashion, and also the fact that he doesn't seem to have put out any successful work of much note well after the success of TD S1 feels a little telling? like. y'know. be a shit person, achieve shit results?

having said all of this, I am also sort of mystified by the discourse around TD Night Country. I've spent more time looking on Reddit than I care to admit in recent months, and the demographic there seems to skew quite heavily against NC. Likewise the online critical discourse seems to vacillate between glowing (respected reviewers whose opinions I've historically trusted, eg. Sepinwall, have said that NC had "the best finale in the series' history") and dismissive as well (that guy from Forbes who does a bunch of video game coverage seemed to REALLY hate this season??) and I think I personally fall somewhere leaning towards the former but not entirely? Like. It felt like a perfectly decent series of TV! It was cool! It wasn't SENSATIONAL, it didn't captivate me in the same way S1 captivated my then-20-year-old lizard brain, but it was doing some really interesting things with some really interesting characters...

As Pizz himself has already very crudely and dismissively said, it would be too easy to attribute a lot of the hate from the online, male-nerddom-leaning quadrants of the internet to simple misogyny... I do wonder if that is the entire story here though. The only way I could take it further than simply "INCEL BOYS HATE WOMEN" is that the two lead characters in NC are actually portrayed as actively unlikeable in multiple different respects, and I am not sure if something in that conscious decision to present those two characters as having repellent behaviors and choices was simply too alien for a contingent of people who are used to the boys being the edgy dark brooding transgressing antiheroes?

it would be a little weird to attribute the fan vitriol to simply brigading on Pizz's behalf as well, since he hasn't really done anything to match the level of critical acclaim in the 10 years since TDS1 was released... I don't know how many of the angry nerds online are aware of the fact that NC was made by an entirely different showrunner too, but i'm guessing it's a not-insignificant amount.

It could also be a poisoned combination of both misogyny and anti-wokeness (whatever the fuck that means); perhaps it was too big of a bridge to cross for people to stomach a show with two female leads who are partially unlikeable, at least one of whom is BIPOC, and is carrying a very clearly left-leaning message of "corporations bad, pollution bad, cops corrupt, racism/misogyny latent across society". In that way, perhaps the show came across as some kind of """""woke pandering""""" cocktail? And again, maybe the Reddit people/Forbes guy who try very hard to come across as the "reasonable" folks and not the clearly repressed/prejudiced/vitriolic sort are just unwilling to admit that they are subconsciously succumbing to these biases...

I have no idea. I don't think the show was bad enough to warrant hate from people who claim outwardly to not be affected by misogynist/anti-left tendencies, but I don't know how else to square it. It's just weird!

You know it's very funny because reading the bit about the self aware au just brought out like the worst in me and I couldn't help but think (mostly due to the ritsu part, because boy don't you dare touch my dia) "oh yeah? Two can play that game you know. Touch my día and you're dead to me. What if I decide to never open the game again? What if I uninstall you? What if I forcefully break my phone and buy a new one that has nothing in common with the last one? You won't see me ever again, is that what you want? Don't test how far my spite, anger and disappointment can take me."

Because within the context of "you don't quite know what's going on, but there's something wrong" and especially if you do not realize they're self-aware, they're still just kinda.... A bunch of pixels? So if they bring you more pain than the joy they once did, why wouldn't you get rid of them? If you realize they are actually self-aware that night bring more problems though (moral conundrums y'know y'know)

Anyway I love the concept it's so fun to think about <3 I'm also blaming the worst parts of my thinking process currently on "I'm salty due to my lack of sleep and the blorbos are going to pay for it"

Under the cut for length! As always, yandere is not something I approve of or see as romantic, instead I see it as horror - and similarly see the yandere self-aware stuff as the cousin of the "i got a haunted game at a yard sale" creepypastas lolol

No but you're exactly right. Let's imagine, for a moment, that something like "the pixels become self-aware" actually happens - you might think off-handedly "oh, wow, like those sci-fi movies where the AI becomes conscious and destroys the world", but that's exactly it. You'll think "sci-fi", "movie", "world's end" and it's all very unrealistic. I don't think anybody's really immune to the "But it won't happen to me" mindset especially with something as far-fetched as that. So, even if you think about it, you'd likely just wave it off as a funny joke you came up with and instead go ahead believing you're experiencing a weird bug. Honestly, I've seen weirder playing enstars, and I've had bugs that seemingly nobody else has encountered, so I wouldn't even be fazed. Might e-mail support if it gets really bad (as in - if Ritsu yoinks my hard-earned dia), but I wouldn't be overly worried.

But spite is always a good trait to have in these cases. And literally - imagine you're saving up for a feature scout for the character you produce above all else (instead of an event, bc I think scouts being reliant on luck will often mean you'll end up spending a lot more than on events), let's say you managed to rack up enough for 100 pulls - not even halfway to the point where you'd get pity, but not an amount to sneeze at by any means either. Tomorrow the scout opens, and, if need be, you can still grind some stuff, an upcoming event, some songs you haven't S+ combo'd, and so on, but it won't give you a lot of dia. Maybe for another 10pull - maybe - but every little bit counts.

And then this bitch (lol) on your homescreen gets jealous. Maybe you've skipped his event scout because you wanted to make sure you had dia for this other idol, and he can't have that. So he just... erases your dia. Doesn't even spend it on anything, simply takes those hard-earned 3,500 dia and changes the code into a sweet little zero (this hurt to write). Emailing support wouldn't even help as it's not really a bug, and I imagine it'd be hard to prove you even had the dia in the first place and that it just disappeared. It wouldn't surprise me if someone would be discouraged enough to drop the game. Especially if you're f2p - it's no easy task grinding dia. But I don't think Ritsu would really know what his actions could have as consequence - he'd act out of emotion and on impulse, and wouldn't really realise the problem until suddenly the player is only getting the daily logins, then they log in once a week, then once a month, and then they stop playing. Support was no help, the event scout came and went, and the player, discouraged and disappointed, lost interest. Soon enough, the game is uninstalled, and Ritsu has an eternity in the void to think about how his unhealthy jealousy and impulsive actions brought him that loneliness.

Although if you then make the connection of "Hey, wait a minute, didn't Ritsu literally threaten me with this?" you're definitely better off just buying a new phone before installing enstars again. I imagine the self-awareness like a virus, it stays on your phone the same way game data sticks around if you reinstall a game, except they kinda leak into every crevice of your phone, able to connect to anything the phone connects to, so if you charge your phone on your pc, and then install enstars on the pc through an emulator, you get the "corrupted" enstars there, too.

And dhbdjdjd entirely understandable... i hope you'll be able to get some shut-eye later in the day <3 or at least a moment to sit down and chill!

— Okay, maybe you're over reacting a little bit in there, Foggy.

— Um, I don't think so? A fountain on the way in? Who are you, y/n? The freaking president? - you laugh at your friend's excitement.

— I wish. Then I wouldn't be dragging my ass around with you two over nights being privated of sleep to find a decent opening statement. At least we won this time.

— Well, let's drink to that! - Foggy lifts his cup and takes a sip walking around to explore the house and just then you realise how quiet Matt was since you got there. Taking advantage of your moment alone with him, you come closer.

— Penny for your thoughts? - you lean over his side to speak closer to his ear. Seeing a beautiful grin take place on his lips by your proximity.

— Just, thinking about the case.

— Oh, c'mon, Matty, I can't hear heartbeats but cut the bullshit, I know you're lying. - you see him bouncing on his feet nervously, you loved to see how he could be a fearless vigilante at night and still get nervous about the most mundane things sometimes.

— I, ah, um- he clears his throat - kinda with I could see the place y'know? - he chuckles - All of that excitement Foggy is over there may be too much, but ah- Yeah. That's it. - you nod comprehensively.

— I could give you a tour. - you say sounding more like a question than a statement - Like, describing stuff to you, you know? Like we did that one time at the restaurant. - you giggle reminding yourself of a date that went terribly wrong - If you want to, of course.

— I'd love to - you see his lovely smile show up again and give him your arm to hold on, seeing him fold the stick on his hands and putting his hand on your arm. You knew damn well he didn't need your help guiding him over the place, but it was like you had a silent agreement, just needing an excuse for him to touch you. Keep his grip.

There was a palpable tension between the pair of you. Anyone could feel it. Like stated, the first date went south ways thanks to a daredevil emergency that Matt needed to attend to. Still, you were always touchy (annoyingly, even, on Foggy's humble opinion) towards eachother and Matt kissed you the day he had to walk out from the date. But then it was a subject neither of you knew exactly how to get back to, just flying mindlessly on the air.

You start walking him to the upper floor but first stopping by the kitchen to warn a very amused Foggy where you were going.

— Foggy, I'm going upstairs to show Matt the place, wanna come? - Your friend very much knew this was more of a rhetorical question than an actual invitation, he was tired to see you and Matt come and go with whatever you had going on and any moron could see you wanted some time alone with him, so he gives an excuse.

— I think it's best if one of us stays down here to wait for Karen. - he says simply blinking exaggeratedly at you and lifting both of his thumbs. You hold a laugh.

— Your call, buddy. Anything you need, we'll be right back.

— Have fun! - you hear him say while you were already near the ending of the stairs leaning Matt to the first place of the tour.

Coming to your room you stop by the door to let him come in first and guide him to sit on your bed.

— So... Where do I even start - you giggle.

— Tell me about the things you like the most here. - he smiles again.

— Right- So, um, there's- there's a book shelf on your left. Not much to say about it actually, there's my photo mural on your right, ugh, I love this part. So, here, there's loads of pictures of my best memories. I have my hole life hanging in here. - you smile - There's one of my and my cousin hugging eachother right after we fought for a teddy bear - he laughs with you - my aunt made us take this picture. This one - you pick up a Polaroid from the mural and put in his hands, even tho he couldn't see it, he could tell the paper was old - it's us on the first semester of college - you laugh - Foggy still had that weird beard of his.

— And I had none.

— You look pretty either way - you put your hand cupping his cheek and rub your thumb softly on a fresh wound. - Beating up bad guys again, Matthew? - you keep looking all over his face localising other minor bruises.

— You know I can't stop - he shrugs.

— Only if I take of my shirt - he grins widely in a boyish tone and you nudge his shoulder.

— Sadly, we have company here today. - you play along - Maybe another time.

— You would give me that chance after how the last one went?

— My stock of chances it's still full for you, Matty.

— Good. Because I would love to take you for dinner again, all my attention on you, this time. - he gets up surrounding his hands on your waist, and pulling you though your neck for a breathtaking kiss.

— Don't make me want to quick out my visitors, Murdock. - you giggle pulling him back to you before you hear the doorbell ring — Speaking of the devil. - you part from him and take his hands on yours, keeping your foreheads together. - Tonight we can celebrate with our friends and then maybe we can reschedule the date for tomorrow? Pretend the first one never happened. - you bite your lower lip and he nods - The tour can wait. Something tells me you'll be back here very soon - you whisper the last part and breath out a laugh.

— I hope so. I'd ask you out again billions of times if I have to. - he grins.
