lucanis is a 'I could sit in our quiet kitchen on a grey tuesday afternoon drinking coffee and talking with you about nothing much in particular forever and be the happiest man who ever lived' romantic, not a 'classic tropes and grand gestures' romantic. this is a distinction and conceptual gap I personally feel is crucial to understanding what's going on with him when romanced. for all his almost painful sincerity and clear depth of feeling he's not a very effusive guy by nature, but in the history of time no one has ever, with their whole soul, chest and being, been so genuinely and openly happy to just do laundry and taxes with you.

honestly (i say, piggybacking off of @fatedvoyage's post) the fact that so many ships i've had through the years have started as a joke says some...interesting things about me, i guess.

buckytony wasn't a joke, necessarily, but i lost the steering wheel to the bus on that one pretty early on and it's been a [mumbled number of years] since that whole thing even started and they are, by far, my favorite, top tier ship for tony. i love them and their stupid inside jokes and their stupid little domestic life and their stupid little adventures.

a friend and i had a ship for tony and maccready (yes, that maccready) that started out as me testing a romance mod on a tony fo4 playthrough that led to several unfortunate ingame events (you ever try to romance a companion and get turned down because buddy-) that i got laughed at about until we weren't laughing anymore because it was like you know what and still has a special place in my heart umpteen years later just because it existed and was some juicy characterization digging and a...slightly unorthodox take on romance in the irradiated world.

emmrich and zevran, i...i honestly don't have any excuse for that one, i hate that it literally started out as me bullying dean about taking that old man to pound town on a playthrough and he picked zevran and now i hate myself for how much i kind of love?? them??? like i am legitimately mad about it. this was supposed to be for giggles to make fun of dean about, i wasn't supposed to sit here and rotate them in seriousness.

anyway, trip down memory lane to the gazebo we're standing in today listening to zevran's bad pick up lines aside, that's the thing, right. like the ships i still look back on most fondly (like maccready's rper no longer writes on tumblr, for example) or that i hold closest to my heart have a common element of like...we were joking until we weren't? or we tossed out the script (such as in buckytony's case) because the inmates were running the asylum, anyway, you know what i mean?

i do not, under any circumstances, set out to ship just to ship, it's just not my thing, but man when the blorbos click, or they click unexpectedly, that's just. 👌😩 there's a couple here that are starting to veer into that territory and i'm sitting here nose pressed to the window like SICKOS_yes_HAHA_YES.jpg over it all.

Monika being normal when she doesn't have the power of gods is a large sense-make.

It is!! I think, a lot of the ddlc fandom has a problem where they've flanderised the characters down to their most extreme states and forgot what they actually are like. in the actual game. So there are people out there who write and characterise Monika as if she's always some yandere who's obsessed with the player character who has no morality and will kill anyone who gets in her way. yknow she's not even like that in the actual game either, people just saw that act 3 Monika was kind of yandere-tropey and forgot everything about her actual character and made her yandere girl 300. Monika could have done worse. sorry I'm being a Monika apologist I do have monikan in my blog name. Monika is literally just some dorky high-school girl who was given god powers and told her world wasn't real and that part of her character doesn't go away when she has the revelation, why would it not be present when she doesn't have god powers? I have lots to say about Monika. Thanks for the ask!

It's okay.... it's okay! I've been over this countless times before - read all the books, rehearsed all my lines... I'm good! I can do this! Just... step out into the big wide world, put on my biggest smile... it really is that simple! Literal child's play!!

So why... why am I struggling so much...?

Why don't they respond the way I was told they would? Why is it so... so hard to even look at them sometimes? A-and why is there this tightness in my chest, constricting my heart with every forced laugh and every unexpected turn?

The thing is, it... always works out. It never is as bad as I fear it will be. Sometimes it's even... fun? Yes, fun! Yet still the facade almost slips whenever she grabs me by the hand, or whenever they reach out to hug me, and I feel like I'm about to die because this wasn't in the script no-one told me this is what it'd be like-!!!

...but I can't ever - not ever, not even once! - let my performance slip. If... if they see me for what I really am, then it'll all be over, and I can't... I've g-got to be strong - I've got to be brave because I told them we're heroes, and heroes are brave and strong, aren't they? They don't let anything hurt them - especially not something as stupid and insignificant as this! I won't let them down... not for anything. Not even for myself.

Because the show must go on, no matter how far it goes off-script.

Another batch or Mr. Puzzles quick sketches. I kept forgetting to draw his side pocket in the last couple ones. Random character featured in the little comic-ish Live Interview is some version of doodlesona. Can’t guarantee the dialogue will be believable/sound in character for Puzzles because honestly I’m still working on understanding his talking style and when he sarcastically jokes around or when he chooses to be serious and drop performance act.
