It's finally here!!! I'm finally able to post my Blackrock Chronicle: Rising Rythian (and bonus Zoeya!!) cosplay for @mcyt-couture-zine. This project is, quite sincerely, over eleven years in the making - one of my very first cosplays ever was S3 Rythian, which I wore Halloween 2013. I am so happy to finally be able to show this off; I'm incredibly proud of it, and it is truly the culmination of my sewing journey.

The zine released yesterday! Go check it out!! Everyone's work is incredible and deserves your attention. A massive thank you to my photographer for indulging me on this shoot, and to @blocky-tides for putting this event together!! More talking, close-ups, and details under the cut.

Almost everything in the Rythian cosplay was made from scratch, save the boots, shirt, and belt. The coat is a modified Victorian men's coat made from cotton-linen blend with polyester piping, cotton lining, and wooden buttons; the waistcoat is a 1910's low-fronted vest made from polyester damask with metal buttons salvaged from a marching band jacket; the cloak is a modified Victorian women's opera cloak in a linen-viscose blend, with metal buttons, polyester mesh lining, and hand-embroidery; the pants are Victorian men's pants in red dupioni silk; the hand wraps are made of muslin; and the mask is purple dupioni silk with bubble gauze linen lining and hand-embroidery. The mushroom earring and ender pearl cage pendant are also hand-made! It didn't make it into any of the photos, but I also bleached a streak into my hair in the front LMAO.

As for the origins of this project, I was able to unearth these photos courtesy of my mother. The first is from October 31st, 2013, and the second is June 4th, 2014; note the unhemmed Party City doctor coat with painted-on piping, the H&M jeans, the transition-lens glasses, and the knockoff Uggs. The split in the cape was also unhemmed, and I think the ender eyes on the back were glued-on felt. Truly the "how it started, how it's going" of my sewing journey.

Finally done with TNMNTOBER, even though I was waaaaaaay too late. But I still feel glad that I finished a month of drawings.

Rythian: What is your favorite type of monster/villain?

Do aliens count? If so then definitely aliens or eldritch horror angels

Zoeya: What gets you into the creative mood?

Seeing something that gives me an idea! For art it’s usually a pose from a pose archive or an art piece on my dash. For writing it’s a bit different because I usually just daydream about things until I finally get an urge to start writing it down.

Xephos: What is your favorite planet?

Neptune! Very pretty blue hehe, and I love Poseidon from mythology

briony/zylus - 6/10, just average but bonus point for the dynamic they have with the drunk empath (ben) sitting between them and thinking they’re both good

ben/duncan - 3/10, uncoordinated as heck sorry guys

osie/ben - 4/10, don’t speak till the end but marionettes are kinda freaky with it. also duncan and rythian join the polycule.

kirsty/rt - 7/10 killing your own minion is toxic yuri

boba/kirsty - 8/10, “my role is your mother,” okay get it. and briony joins the girlies

rt/tom - 10/10. forcing your own minion to try to get you, the demon, executed to convince the town you’re NOT the demon because a minion would never do that, and then killing yourself to prolong the game and forcing your minion to become the demon. literally no one is doing it like them.

boba/ben: 3/10 - literally don’t speak one on one the entire game but ben does throw himself under the bus for her so that gets them points. but then he kinda fucked her with the ceranovus pick

duncan/gee/briony/rt/osie - 7/10, ritually sacrificing the storyteller together as a bonding exercise is definitely up there when it comes to getting weird with it

rythian/briony - 9/10, the scarlet women implications are self explanatory

mark/trott - 8/10, literally joke about having a make out session in the library, it writes itself

osie/alex - 6/10, “i am your pawn to sacrifice” is wild, would be higher if she actually got to do it

nilesy/zoey - 5/10 poppygrower inherently makes the dynamic weird because you’ve got them in a room together both lying their asses off, but the minion-damsel-huntsman dynamic offsets the weirdness. would be higher if the shabaloth accidentally ate their own minion

sophie/zylus - 8/10, changing a lunatic pick to save your minion is pretty gay

demons and minions in botc always have homoerotic tension with each other. it’s law.
