Brothers is on Hiatus, for now

Hey there, Grimdark Fans.

As many of you have no doubt noticed, Brothers has been pretty quiet for a while. Truth be told, my writers block has MURDERED me on this project.

I VERY MUCH want to continue this story, but Im realizing Ive written myself into a bit of a corner, unfortunately, and I really don't like that.

TRANSLATION: I'm stepping away from this project for a bit, to rework it, rewrite it, and start it from scratch at some point. I want fresh eyes on this, and the only way that's gonna happen is if I step back, and come back to it when Im ready.

In the meantime, I will continue to write my other webcomics. That includes-

-which is still humming along nicely (in fact, updates to that are returning tomorrow, so I cant recommend enough to go give that a watch RIGHT HERE). I do have eventual plans for a series of short Zine Comics Ill be doing for my Trench Crusade warbands (One for a Heretic Legion force & the other a Trench Pilgrim force) and a Mordheim Warband (Werewolf-themed Beastmen for the curious).

Very small scale stuff. Eventually, I'll be coming back to this, and when I do, I WONT remove the old comics. Ill leave them up, but put them under a new tag and a separate archive that lets folks know that it's the first run of the webcomic, not the current one.

I appreciate you all being here for this project. Dont worry, it'll be back, just don't be counting the days.

So, a while back, I was given the sad news that one of our members of this community had passed away. It was pretty surreal, given it only felt like yesterday when we’d last talked. They were good people and incredibly kind, so when the very kind glintsthename subbed to have their name dropped in the comic, I figured a name-drop wasn’t enough of a tribute.

Big thanks to MAC who let us all know and subbed for the work.

RIP Handler, we’ll see you out on the battlefield

HAPPY PRIDE, VOYAGERS

I know now is an exceptionally scary time for many folks, and for the LGBTQIA+ community (and especially for many of our trans kin out here in the USA) it can be downright terrifying. I'm not going to list every trauma and nightmare we've all endured; we know what we've been subjected to. And as horrific as the current state of affairs is, many of these struggles are perennial and have been with us since long before the first brick was thrown at Stonewall.

Despite this, we persist.

And every year, more and more people come out of the closet, and embrace who they are.

It took me until my mid 20s to realize I was Pansexual.

It took me another ten years to realize that I was also Demisexual.

And Im sure as I grow older I will grow into myself more, and learn even more about who I am.

We are not some ironclad destiny written when we are children, but we are a living, breathing thing, ever changing and growing. And that's wonderful!

So, when things get dark, gather your friends and family close. Stand with your peers. Lock arms & extend solidarity with those who struggle alongside us: the poor the homeless ethnic minority groups immigrants the differently abled and all those who remember that what happens to the least of us happens to all of us.

Honestly, I have no fun witty line for here. This comic deals in some heavy topics, especially for folks living in the shadow of authoritarianism and fascism. Please Reblog, I'd like to design a cheap braille typewriter (prototyping by 3d printing, final design will be machined) I stumbled upon linked YouTube short and a thought: "designing 6/8 button typewriter is within my technical capabilities"

I have many design questions I wish I could test out

My roadblock is I don't know anyone who's visually impaired, and casually seeking random place to peddle my soon-to-be-invention is not something I'm capable of

Many design questions:

Paper type: what is minimal quality/density of paper for dots to be readable. Can thermal receipt paper be used for notes?

Embossed vs punched out: is that significant for the typewriter to not break paper? It's important for "undo", but that's pretty far in my building a typewriter plan

Typewriter size: My initial idea was something like a portable cash register with receipt paper spool and little tray for it to glide along (I quickly realized it's a bad design because it can't fit more than 7 characters, or I can make infinite scroll of a single line with questionable ergonomics). Ultimately is related to page size, so what would be best for it? A4 standard paper? Is being portable important?

Keyboard layout: Perkins Brallier have all it's buttons inline forming long row. Wouldn't single-hand keyboard in similar layout as braille dots be more convenient? (straight grid or mimicking angle of computer keyboard letters)

Typing feedback: should typed letter be instantly accessible and not obstructed by typewriter? Maybe typing with one hand and instantly proof-reading with another hand?

Typewriter or printer?: alternatively, I can make a little annoying-noise-making servo-powered printer that will punch out text. Arduino or Raspberry PI based (I have experience with both) It would be USB powered most benevolent printer, because it don't require ink to work

Can actually confirm, these skills transfer backwards too. Painted my nails for the first time in my life two weeks ago (painted minis for over a decade tho), and the two thin coats technique worked FANTASTICALLY. They werent perfect (still need practice), but they turned out pretty good! Other transferable skills are managing brush strokes from cuticle to tip, and shaping your nails before you paint with an emery board is basically removing mould lines.

Actually might theme my nails moving forwards with the emblems of my custom Battle Brother chapters!
