my review of bananza so far is i think i like it better than odyssey. i think odyssey has better environments bc they were so distinct while in bananza so far (im in the forest world which is an improvement from the others ive seen i really like it a lot) is just different coloured stone and rock and it doesn't stand out that much, no foliage or architecture or anything visually interesting (forest world fixes this! big trees! yay)

but i think i find exploring and the "bonus" levels more enjoyable, i want to progress and see what's around, and finding hidden bananas and fossils isn't as boring as finding moons somehow. some parts are a little tricky. i like the puzzles when they're there. idk if it ever gets boring or whatever but the gameplay is definitely fun idk.

mario odyssey really is just running around and not doing anything (i have not touched odyssey since i beat it in 2017 bc i have no desire to replay it). i dont think odyssey is bad just not for me? i feel like people hype up odyssey because "oh the movement" and they're just finding convoluted ways to use cappy and that's not what the game should be like lol. for me. just like how mario kart world is ""fun"" because you can "learn to grind" when that isn't the appeal to me. i want to race i dont give a shit about driving on the side of a cliff

in bananza if i can't find anything to do i can just tear shit up and grind for gold lmao. then i find something. then i can investigate something. then i can find a hidden level. idk its more rewarding or something. my opinion can change at any point but maybe i can figure out why i like it so much once i play more

i guess there's a difference in the movement thats appealing, "run around and maybe jump in an empty field" isn't fun but "tearing up an empty field and you find a treasure chest and a secret room and maybe you'll find something else no way to know unless you try" is
