P.Y.T ISSUE #02 | METAPHOR: REFANTAZIO

Hey, family! Welcome to the second issue of P.Y.T Magazine! Where I practice my graphic design and talk abt my fav pieces of media. Call me Pretty, and today I'm talking all about a game by Altus, Metaphor: Refantazio!

According to an analysis by a reddit user named BRLaw2016, (I'll link the post below, you definitely should read it, its super cool) "The term “Metaphor” is defined as something that represents or symbolizes another thing. The prefix “Re” means “back” or “again,” and its meaning can vary depending on the word that follows. In the context of this game, it can be interpreted as suggesting concepts like Reinvent, Reconstruct, Rearrange, or Reincarnate. This interpretation aligns with my initial impression that the game offers a reimagining of reality through a different lens."

I also look at it as a "return to fantasy" and how the game and story makes the fantasy genre it's own. Along with the fact that there are multiple endings, making the game replayable. 😝

THE STORY | 4.5/5🌟

LAWDDDDD THIS GAME IS A RIDE!! I'm going to do my best to be as vague and as spoiler-free as possible. I also ask that if you guys leave any comments, they will be spoiler-free too. (I haven't finished the game yet, I'm stuck on a boss😭) The writers of Metaphor managed to make the story so exciting omfg. In the first part of the game, i was cruising through the story. "Prepare, grind, buy stuff, break the curse" but towards mid August to September, the story turns completely on it's head, so I never ran out of motivation to see what happens next! I am so excited to see how this story ends, y'all!

THE CHARACTERS | 5/5🌟

I am just in love with each and every single character in this game. The game has a good way of making you actually want to spend time with your followers. (By means of extra MAG, discounts at the stores, combat perks, and more) But if you're a person with empathy in your heart, each of these quest lines will steal it. My personal favorites are Alonzo's, Heismay's, and Brigitta's. Each of the characters break the jrpg curse of stereotypical characters with little depth.

THE FANDOM | 4.5/5🌟

I ❤️ the Metaphor Fandom. I have not seen not one incel, weird yaoi fetishizer, or whitewashed fanart of the characters AT ALL! In fact, I've seen an abundance of the opposite! This Fandom is home to cool, talented folk, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

THE VISUALS | 5/5🌟

Do I even need to explain why the visuals get such a high score?? JUST LOOK AT THE COVER OF THIS ISSUE! The cutscenes, boss design, each of the characters outfits are all just perfect. The references to classical art, and the rendition of the Vetruvian man whenever you go to akademia is just such a cool vibe.

EXTRA NOTES — dumb facts 🛋

●In my current game, I named the protagonist "Gooby" because I felt like it. Now, I know that his actual name is Will, Idgaf. Gooby will forever be his name to me.

●I guess I was completely wrong abt everyone's ages💀 I always the the protagonist was like, 15. Stroll was 18-19, Hulkenberg was 25, Junah 24, Heismay 44, Neuras 50, and Eupha 16. Though apparently the protagonist is actually 18! So idek wtf I'm talking abt anymore.
