Tumblr media
“Are you certain this is the right decision?” Master Pakku asked, stopping a few feet behind you.
“All my life, I was told that my soulmate had to be special if our scars lay like a shadow over our faces,” you turned around, looking into the water bender’s blue eyes, “All my life, I’ve waited for them to show up. I think it’s my turn to search.”
“And the fire nation is the best place to start?”
You sighed. Of course, the fire nation’s capital wasn’t an ideal place, especially as a water bender. “My father is a recognized citizen there, it’s the easiest place to start, no one has to know about my water bending.”
Pakku turned away, “Then I’ll wish you good luck.”
You looked down, Master Pakku had not only trained you, he had raised you like his own. It was hard to let him go but leaving felt just so right.
“Master Pakku!” You called out, making the water bender turn around. “Thank you.”
A small smile spread over his face as he nodded before walking away. I hope they’ll all be safe, you thought.
With that, you lifted your bag and walked towards the harbor where your ship was laying in the water. The snow crunched beneath your boots as you drew out every possible scenario of meeting your soulmate.
“Y/n?” Yue’s soft voice made you stop. “You’re leaving already?”
You nodded, “I want to find them Yue, I’ve waited long enough.”
The princess pulled you into a hug, tucking her face into your neck. “Don’t forget us Y/n, ever,” she whispered.
You smiled after she let you go, “I won’t, I’ll come back to you once I found them.”
Yue stepped away from you, sadness evident on her face but she smiled. “I think you have to go, don’t you?”
“I do.” You stepped backwards, turning around to finally enter the ship.
Tumblr media
You hadn’t expected the Fire Nation to be this hot. Wiping the sweat from your forehead, you walked along the harbor to look for your father. He had promised to be by your side as soon as you arrived.
You sped up your steps after you found him looking around, probably searching for you.
“Father!” You called out before you hugged him.
“Y/n,” he chuckled, wrapping his arms around you, “You’ve grown taller since we last met.”
Your father had stayed in the Fire Nation even after you and your mother went back home, that was just shortly before she passed and Master Pakku took care of you. It never truly affected your relationship with your father. You would sent letters to each other and he even visited you a few years ago.
“I guess I have,” you grinned after you let him go.
Your father smiled back at you before walking towards the city, “You must be exhausted, let’s get you home.”
You nodded, “I am quite a bit but it’s also really hot, do you have any clothes I could wear?”
“Of course.”
Tumblr media
A few weeks had passed, you had gotten a job at a famous tea shop in the city. The owner, an old man, always told you story about how he was once crown prince of the Fire Nation before he gave it up for his tea shop.
“Y/n, there’s an event this evening.” Iroh started a conversation, “I was wondering if you’d accompany me.”
“What’s so special about it?” You asked, preparing a tablet of Jasmine tea.
The elderly man cleared his throat with a smile, “The Royal family will be there, I thought you’d be interested in meeting Zuko and Azula.”
You nodded, “When do I need to be there?”
“It begins at sunset, we can meet by the old oak tree, you should see it as soon as you get there,“ Iroh smiled before disappearing into the back of the shop.
You sighed with a grin before lifting the tablet of tea. That still doesn’t tell me when to be there, you thought.
The rest of the day was quiet, you served more customers and tried to get an answer out of your boss but he always managed to avoid answering your question.
Here you were now, getting ready for an event and hoping not to be late. You had chosen a red robe, traditional yet modern, just as you liked. Now, you just had to do your hair.
„You look great Y/n,” Your father smiled as he leaned against the door frame, “Are you going out?”
You chuckled, putting a necklace around your neck, “I am, I was invited to go to an event with my boss.”
“Let me help you.” Your father slowly helped you secure the necklace.
“Why aren’t you going?” You asked as you waited for your father to finish.
“The Fire Nation siblings are the future of our country, I like to stick with tradition. Maybe I would’ve gone if the Firelord was there as well.” You nodded as you father stepped away from you.
“You’re good to go Y/N.” You smiled waved goodbye before rushing down the stairs, you were hoping you weren’t late to the event.
The streets were crowded with young people and you tried your best not to bump into anyone. Music was playing everywhere and everything was decorated in red and orange. You slowed down to admire the city, you never thought the Fire Nation could be as beautiful with everything they’ve done.
The oak tree Iroh mentioned earlier today came into your view, but to your surprise, the elderly man was nowhere to be seen. You leaned against the tree, thinking he’ll show up in a few moments.
“Excuse me?” A deeper, much younger voice appeared next to you.
“Yes?-“ You turned around to see a young man your age standing in front of you. He was wearing a robe used by Fire Nation Royalty, and his hair was tied into a bun. But what caught your attention wasn’t his look, it was the scar that adorned the left side of his face.
The young man seemed to realize it just in time, “Who are you?”
Your throat was dry and you didn’t know what to say, he was your soulmate, he must be, your scars look identical.
“I’m…I’m Y/N,” you choked out, finally having the guts to talk to the man in front of you.
His expression softened and smile spread over his face, “I’m Zuko.”
“As in Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation?” You questioned, even more in shock than before.
“Yes, that Zuko,” he chuckled, “But please don’t tell anyone I’m here.”
You laughed gently, “How does no one know? It’s obvious who you are.”
“Well you didn’t know either.” You nodded, smile widening at Zuko’s happy tone.
“I can’t believe I finally found you,” Zuko spoke. He looked relieved, just as you were.
“But you’re not from the Fire Nation, are you?”
You grinned and shook your head, “How’d you know?”
“Because-,” Zuko started but was interrupted when two elderly woman announced the begin of the event. “I have to go, please wait here until I can come back.” You waved at him, promising to wait.
“So it went well?” You recognized Iroh’s voice.
“You knew?”
“I knew right after you stepped foot into my tea shop Y/n,” Iroh chuckled, “Your scars are special, I’ve never seen any like them.”
“I’ve heard that often,” You said focusing on the speech that was held.
“I can tell.”
You turned to him again, “What did you tell Zuko? He wouldn’t have been here otherwise.”
“Only that his dear uncle would like to speak with him but Zuko seems to have forgotten that.”
Tumblr media
You were leaning against the fence, looking down at the shining ocean. The event had ended a bit ago so it was getting quieter. Even Iroh had already left.
“Y/N?” Zuko called out shortly before he arrived next to you.
“There you are,” you smiled, “You and your sister did a great job up there.”
“We want to change this country as soon as we can,” Zuko explained, “I want the world to find peace again and Azula wants the people to be free.”
“I didn’t think you two would be so…”
“So open-minded? Yeah, it took us long enough to get there.”
You shook your head, “But at least you accept your wrongs and rights.”
“You were asking how I knew you weren’t from the Fire Nation earlier, right?” Zuko turned to you, his brown eyes softly piercing into yours.
“I did.”
“I searched the whole country for you, every village and every mountain,” Zuko admitted, seemingly a bit embarrassed.
“That’s sweet,” you replied to ease the tension.
“Well, where are you from?” The prince questioned. “I won’t tell anyone.”
You smiled slightly, grabbing the necklace, “I’m from the northern water tribe.”
“You’re a water bender?” Zuko grinned, “That’s so cool. I always found water benders interesting.”
You laughed, although you didn’t expect your soulmate to be the crown prince of the Fire Nation, you were glad to have finally met.
“But how did a water bender get a burning scar?”
“I was born in the Fire Nation actually and well,” you stopped, looking around to see if no one else was here, “Not everyone is so accepting of other benders.”
“You fled the Fire Nation?” Zuko seemed disappointed, knowing that people had to flee from his home.
“With my mother, yes. My father stayed behind. Now I’m living with him again.”
Zuko sighed, wrapping his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close, “I’m sorry Y/N.”
You grinned playfully, “It’s fine, I wouldn’t even know how to water bend if I had grown up here.”
“But we would’ve met earlier,” Zuko said.
“Good point.”
“How did you get your scar Zuko?” You questioned.
“I embarrassed my father in a war meeting,” Zuko mumbled, looking down, “He said I should learn a lesson in respect.”
“Oh,” you breathed out, focusing your gaze on the ocean in front of you, “I’m really sorry Zuko.”
You caught Zuko shaking his head from the corner of your eye, telling you not to be sorry. The prince was quiet for a few moments, watching gentle waves wash ashore below you.
“Y/N?” Zuko turned to you, his gaze more serious than before.
He slowly lifted his hand and grazed his finger tips against your scar. It didn’t hurt like it did with others, instead, you felt a sparkle immediately feeling at home. You wanted Zuko to feel the same so you copied his movements, seeing him relax as your fingers made contact with his face.
“I want you by my side,” he spoke gently. “When I’m Firelord, you know more about the suffering we’ve caused.” You nodded, staying quiet as you sought in the moment a bit longer.
“I never thought It’d be someone like you Zuko,” you admitted, lowering your hand again.
“Am I not good enough?” He joked, letting go of your face as well.
You stood there in silence, both of you finally realizing that you’ve found each other. All the people that told you, your soulmate would be special were right. Although you still thought you were dreaming, you clearly felt Zuko’s calming presence in front of you. It finally felt like home.
“Am I interrupting something?” Another voice made you turn around.
It was s girl, dressed in the same clothes like Zuko. You bowed easily recognizing her as Zuko’s sister.
“Please don’t,” the princess stepped closer, “I know who you are, you shouldn’t bow to me.” You nodded, catching Zuko’s happy gaze.
“I’m Azula,” the girl introduced herself, even though you already knew her name.
“I’m Y/N.”
“Can you believe it Azula!” Zuko went to hug his sister, she was surprised but hugged her brother back, “I’ve finally found my soulmate.”
You watched them, Zuko felt like home ever since you met him but Azula was intriguing as well and you knew she thought the same about you too.
“I’ll be on my way home. Zuko, Y/N,” Azula excused herself and turned around, leaving you and the prince alone again.
You a few moments of comfortable silence washed over you as the moon finally showed up behind the crystal blue ocean.
“It’s getting late,” Zuko acknowledged shortly, “Do you want to spend the night at the palace?”
“Sure, I don’t work tomorrow anyway.”
Zuko pointed to a path through the woods, saying it’s the shortest way to get to the palace. The two of you walked next to each other as you talked about random things.
“Do you like Azula?” Zuko asked suddenly making you turn to him.
“She seems nice.”
“Just nice?”
“Well she’s beautiful and if you want her to rule with you she must be smart and a talented bender as well.”
Zuko smirked, “You should date her.”
You almost choked on air, “And why would I do that?”
“So Mai and I can have some time alone,” Zuko admitted, his cheeks heating up.
“Who’s Mai?” You smirked, already knowing the answer, “Your girlfriend?”
“Yes,” Zuko nodded, playfully nudging you when he saw your amused face.
You broke out in laughter at the thought of him and his girlfriend not being able to have a few quiet moments. “Oh you poor, poor man. I’ll see what I can do.”

Hi I hope you’re not getting tired of riding for Azula could you do one with her and reader relaxing A long day and they’re feeding each other cherries and reader gives her one with a pit in it by mistake lol
Cherry Pit| Azula x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Characters: Azula, reader, Zuko (briefly)
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: none (feeding each other cherries if that counts?)
Word Count: 827
Tumblr media
Your eyes traveled over the glistening water of the Turtle Duck pond you were sitting next to. It was a hot day, too hot to train, even for you and Azula. Instead, the two of you decided to take a break for the day, hoping it would cool down tomorrow.
“Y/n look at me,” Azula said. To everyone else, it would’ve sounded like a command but you knew better.
Turning to face her, you asked, “What is it?”
Azula didn’t answer, instead, she moved over to you and settled down on your lap. “It’s nothing…” she whispered and lifted a cherry to your lips.
You hummed and took the cherry from her. It was a quite peaceful moment, you didn’t get them often so you cherished them more than anything.
You rested your head on Azula’s shoulder and closed your eyes. A hum escaped your lips as you started kissing her neck.
“Y…Y/n, stop, people, can see us,” Azula muttered, trying not to show her enjoyment at your actions.
You chuckled, lifting your chin to rest on her shoulder, “You’re the one who’s sitting on my lap.”
When the princess attempted to move off of your lap, you wrapped your arms around her waist, “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Really?” Azula snickered, “Well I guess I can stay then.”
“Just give me another cherry,” you mumbled, satisfied that your girlfriend had decided to keep her place on your lap.
Azula picked up a red cherry and gently fed it to you. “You’re so good to me,” you chuckled.
Picking up a cherry yourself you lifted it to Azula, who seemed to be caught off guard. “It’s your turn,” you explained with a smile.
Azula shook her head with a playful grin before she took the cherry. Your gaze returned to the Turtle Duck pond, it was always so peaceful whenever it caught your attention. A few moments passed before, a cough took your attention from the turtle-duck pond. “Are you okay?” You asked after you’d realized the sound came from your girlfriend.
She revealed the cherry pit in her hands, making you panic. Hadn’t you checked every cherry before you put them in the basket?
“I’m so sorry!” You quickly apologized but Azula didn’t move an inch. “I really thought I checked before.”
You kept on rambling about how you must’ve missed one, apologizing over and over again until a chuckle stopped you in your tracks.
“I…” You mumbled, confused about Azula’s growing laughter.
“You’re truly hilarious Y/n,” she giggled, “It’s just a cherry pit, I don’t think I would’ve died.”
You sat there in shock, “Does that mean…”
“Does that mean what?”
Abruptly sitting up, you pinned Azula to the ground, “You almost made me pass out in fear! I just pictured every punishment your father could’ve given me if he heard I potentially could have killed his daughter!”
You were gently shaking Azula, who was almost crying with laughter, it wasn’t often that you had seen her so happy. Starting to laugh as well, you lost the strength to hold Azula to the ground, making you fall next to her.
A few minutes passed until you were able to catch your breath.
“If it was anyone else, I would’ve told father about it,” Azula spoke a few moments later.
“But since I’m not anyone else we’ll let it slide?” You asked with a playful grin.
“We will,” Azula answered, sitting up, “But I won’t forget that you pushed me into the ground and dirtied my robes.”
Before you could respond, you felt pressure on your hips and your hands were pinned over your head.
“I guess that’s fair,” you groaned when Azula leaned over you. “So do I.”
You leaned up as far as you could, pressing your lips against Azula’s. Her surprised gasp made you chuckle into the kiss, you always loved how flustered she’d get, no matter where or when you kissed.
“What is going on here?” Zuko’s voice parted you and Azula, who quickly scrambled off of you.
“You’re ruining the moment,” you sighed, already missing the feeling of your girlfriend’s lips.
Zuko rolled his eyes, “That still doesn’t answer my question.”
“We were relaxed, it’s abnormally hot today. Why don’t you do the same and leave us alone?” Azula hissed, clearly annoyed at her brother’s interruption.
Zuko decided to leave you alone, not wanting to start an argument with either of you.
“Sometimes I wish he’d just disappear again,” Azula sighed.
You snickered, standing up, “Come on, there must be a small part of you that likes him. Even though he is annoying.”
You picked up the cherry basked and held your hand out for Azula to take, “We still have some cherries left and I know a quiet place just for the two of us.”
“Sounds good.” Azula took your hand and let herself be pulled up by you before you made your way out of the palace garden.

How do you think Asuka would react to her S/O proposing to her?
S/O proposing to Azula
Aged up!Azula
A/n: guess who’s not dead:) I know the proposal is bad but I’m single as hell and never wasted a thought on asking a girl to marry me
Tumblr media
Now, let’s be honest
Our girl had no clue about what you were up to
She even complained as you made your way into a more private area of the palace gardens
“Where are you taking me in the middle of the night? I have better things to do.”
Cue to your eyes almost rolling to the back of your head before you decided to respond
“Just take a surprise for once, I hope I’m sure you’ll love it.”
It was quieter from then on but you were near your destination anyway
You reached the end of the gardens, the ways lit with candles as the leaves swayed in the wind
“Why are we here Y/n?”
Azula’s voice was softer than it had been just moments ago as she observed every bit of the normally pale place
“I wanted to ask you something,” you replied with a grin, masking your nervousness
“All this for a simple question? You could’ve just asked me in the palace.”
You chuckled at her impatience, “It’s not just a simple question Zula”
Azula rolled her eyes with a smile covering her face, motioning for you to continue
“Listen…” you began, suddenly nervous
You took a deep breath before stepping closer to her
“You’ve got a lot on your mind and I don’t know if this is the best opportunity we could get but, what I do know is that I love you, Azula.”
You saw her breath getting stuck in her throat as she realized what you were going to do
Getting on one knee, you continued to speak
“I’ve loved you for so many years and I don’t want that to change, ever. I want to be on your side for my whole life so I’m asking you, will you marry me?”
You noticed how glassy Azula’s eyes became as you got the courage to look up from your spot on the ground again
“I…” a sob left her, startling you as she fell into your arms
“Of course I’ll marry you dum-dum.” She whispered moments later, making your arms tighten around her as you sat on the floor

Not Anymore | Zuko x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Characters: Zuko, reader, the gaang, Azula
Genre: Angst
Warnings: none
Word Count: 1.1k
Tumblr media
“What’s that?” Sokka asked as he waved an old picture in front of Zuko’s face.
“Give it back!” Zuko snapped as he ripped the picture out of Sokka’s hands, making sure the water-tribe boy hadn’t damaged it. “It’s an old picture”
“What’s so important about it?” Sokka continued to question, earning an annoyed huff from Zuko.
“Everything about it is important!” The fire bender hissed.
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry,” Sokka apologised, although a bit annoyed at the fire bender’s temper. “But who is that on the picture next to you?”
Zuko looked down at the picture in his hands, it showed him in the gardens of the Fire Nation palace. Next to him were you with an arm slung around his shoulder. Both of you had stupid smiles on your faces but it was obvious that you were happy. If only these times had lasted longer.
“It’s an old friend,” Zuko began as the rest of the gaang joined him and Sokka. “We were inseparable as kids.”
Zuko smiled at the mere thought of all the days you’d spent together. Whether it was working on your bending technique or just playing around, these moments were one of the last happy memories Zuko had from the Fire Nation.
“What happened between the two of you?” Katara asked, pulling Zuko out of his thoughts.
Zuko hesitated before he ran his hand through his hair, “We couldn’t keep the contact after I was banished. At some point, both of our letters didn’t arrive anymore.”
The fire bender knew that this wasn’t the whole truth but speaking about the end of your friendship left him with a burn in his chest. He didn’t want to think about it, not until you were reunited.
“When this is all over,” Zuko continued, “I’ll search for them, and maybe, everything will be the same again.”
The gaang smiled comfortingly, they wanted to know more but knew that it pained Zuko to talk about you.
“I’m sure you will,” Aang agreed in his usual optimistic tone.
“I mean who wouldn’t want to be friends with the Firelord?” Sokka spoke, siding with Aang.
Zuko chuckled, “They never really cared about ranks. I always liked that, Y/n was friends with me because they liked me and not because I was the crown prince of the Fire Nation.”
“They sound cool. I’m sure we’ll all get along,” Toph grins.
“We’ll see…” Zuko mumbled, putting the picture back to his swords, where it always was.
“No, you’ll see, I can’t you know,” Toph joked, making everyone chuckle.
When the gaang went back to their chores a few moments later, Zuko was left alone as he sat down on the edge of the temple ground they were resting on. You always told him to search for a quiet place whenever he was feeling overwhelmed or just needed some time to think, he’s been listening to this advice ever since.
His attention was shifted elsewhere when Aang shouted-
“It’s Azula!”
Zuko’s body tensed as the name of his sister left the avatar’s lips. He had escaped a few days ago and she was already after him again.
“She’s not alone,” Sokka added, confusion lacing his voice when he didn’t recognise Mai or Ty Lee.
“What?” Zuko whispered as he searched for his sister and her new companion.
It was a Fire Nation soldier, Zuko knew that by the red armour they were wearing. They were standing close to Azula as they whispered something to her. The fire bender’s eyes widened when he recognised how similar the stance of the soldier was to you. It can’t be, he hoped. When the Azula and her soldier got closer to them, the former prince let out a deep breath as horror painted his face.
There you stood, with your arm now slung around Azula’s shoulder, just like you used to do with him.
Your hair had slightly grown out, making you look mature. Another thing Zuko noticed were the details of the armour you were wearing. The golden decorations indicated a high rank in the Fire Nation, making Zuko wonder what he had missed during his absence.
“My, my, it’s been while Zuko,” you spoke, an accent underlined your voice. The former prince believed it was from the eastern border of the Fire Nation. You must have served there, he thought.
“I didn’t think we’d met like this Y/n,” Zuko answered as his mind became clear again.
You raised your head, smirking, “Well what did you think would happen? After you insulted my father in front of the Firelord.”
The fire bender saw his friends eyes widen after you revealed the truth. Azula and you noticed their behaviour seconds later, making both of you chuckle out loud-
“Why are they so surprised? Even your new friends aren’t safe from your nonsense,” you grinned. “Perhaps it was better that you weren’t allowed near me after the meeting.”
It was true, Zuko hadn’t been allowed to talk to you or your father after that evening. Your father explained the events after he got home and from then, you never even glanced at Zuko until the day he was banished where you shook your head as he pleaded for his father to forgive him.
“I’m truly sorry to interrupt your reunion but we’re here for a reason Y/n,” Azula chimed in with a poisonous smile.
“You’re right Zula,” You quickly agreed, moving your arm away from her shoulder.
The princess left you and Zuko alone, deciding to fight with Katara instead. There was a moment of hesitation before Zuko had to make a big leap so he wouldn’t get burned by the bright flame that now chased him. Your fire was strong and you knew exactly what you were doing. The precise movements of your hands reminded him of Azula, you two training together was the first idea that came to his mind.
“Come on Zu, I know you can’t keep doing this for long,” You called out as you stopped behind him.
“You don’t have to do this Y/n,” he tried to reason with you. “W-We can be friends again like we used to be.”
You shook your head as the flame in your hand appeared again, “We can’t, how am I supposed to be sure you wouldn’t embarrass me instead, now that I’m a member of your father’s council.”
A pained look shone in Zuko’s eyes as he sighed, “I would never Y/n. I’m sorry for what I did but I can’t change the past.”
You huffed, amusement taking over your features, “You should have thought about that before honestly.”
“Please Y/n, you’re my best friend!” Zuko continued his pleading, not acknowledging your subtle movements.
“I was, Zuko.”
Tears filled the former prince’s eyes, “I don’t want to fight you.”
“That is your problem.” You easily overpowered Zuko as you caught him off guard, pushing him to the ground.
Your hand hovered over his face, the flames between your fingers leaving an uncomfortable feeling on the fire bender’s face, “We aren’t friends Zuko, at least, not anymore.”

Hi there! I love your azula piece:) you write very well!! I was wondering if I could request azula x earth bender! reader? Maybe reader was assigned to azula as a personal guard and they have a fun flirty relationship, but one day azula gets upset because she really likes reader and she thinks reader is just messing with her? If you don't want to write it that's okay! Thank you so much <3

“This is stupid,” You groaned as you leaned back on your chair. The map that was spread out on your table was covered in lined and circles, marking escapes and entrances into the earth kingdom capital.
“Ba Sing Se is important to finally conquer the Kingdom Y/n,” Azula answered, flipping through the pages of an old book. “You know the city best.”
You scoffed, “I’ve only grown up there.”
A grin appeared on your lips as you watched Azula roll her eyes. Others didn’t dare to talk to Azula the way you did. The constant teasing and flirting had them fear for your position as her personal guard but nothing ever happened. The princess seemed to like your your attitude as it matched quite well with hers.
“You insisted on coming here with us,” Azula argued, setting her book aside to grab yet another one.
You sighed, “It’s my job to follow you around like a lost puppy.”
“So you don’t want to be here with me?”
You knew that she didn’t mean that question, yet it gave your heart a sting. The feelings you had for Azula couldn’t be denied and you didn’t want to. She made your smile appear every time she walks into the room. Of course, you’d never tell her that. You were just there to protect her after all.
“Of course I want to be here with you. I just think it’s way too spontaneous. Not even your uncle was able to conquer Ba Sing Se and he had a lot more time than you.” Your answer made Azula look up with a glare hut you saw the playful shimmer in her eyes.
“Does that mean you think I’m not capable of doing this?”
You expected such answer, the princess liked to see you panic. For your own good though, you were able to identify these situations over time.
“I’m sorry it came off the wrong way. I know you are more than capable of that,” you responded with a smile, deciding to leave the conversation. “I’ll grab another map, this one’s too old.”
Azula nodded, not looking up from her book, “Just don’t fall over the chair.”
“Is that supposed to be nice?”
“It is supposed to be a threat, Y/n. I hate distractions.”
“So my beauty isn’t distracting you?”
“I don’t know where I’m supposed to see beauty but there definitely isn’t enough to be distracting.”
You laughed quietly as you stood up. The map you were grabbing now was a couple years younger, made after Ba Sing Se was finally entirely built. It showed every secret entrance that could be of use.
“Now look at that,” you muttered as you set down the map next to Azula’s book, making the princess look to you.
“What, did you find a way to get in?”
You grinned, “No but I found the house I lived in.”
A book collided with your arm, making you let out a groan before you smirked, “What did I do now?”
Azula turned away from you, “You’re being an idiot. Again, I might add.”
You plopped down onto the chair next to Azula, a frown on your face as you rubbed your arm in deep thought.
“You’re not upset now, right?” Azula asked with another roll of her eyes.
“What if we dress up as Kyoshi Warriors,” you answered, still staring holes in the air.
“What?”
You abruptly stood up, almost knocking the chair over in the process, “We could pretend to be Kyoshi Warriors. That way we can get close to the King without anyone getting suspicious.” There was a short silence as Azula thought about your idea.
“We can do that,” she decided shortly after.
“I’ll talk to Yaora, I bet she can get us the robes.”
“Wait, Yaora?” Azula seemed confused. She didn’t know who Yaora was.
“The servant who’s there for me. I get along with her pretty well,” you began to ramble, not noticing how Azula’s face darkened.
“Then go and ask her,” she cut you off, earning a surprised look from you. The princess never cut you off so it was unusual for her to dismiss you like that.
You chose to ignore it and walked out of the room in search of the servant girl. It didn’t take long as you found her polishing one of your swords you brought as back-up.
“Yaora,” you called, making the girl look up with a smile, “I need you to do something for me.”
You told her the plan, sitting next to her while you began to help her polish the blade. It was a short conversation as she immediately understood what you meant. What you hadn’t noticed was Azula who stood behind the door, her face twisting in anger. To her, you were playing with her feelings. Making her fall for you just so you could abandon her for a servant. How pathetic, she thought. Yaora’s and your laughter was the last straw for her before she hurriedly walked down the hall to her room, overwhelmed with feelings.
“Thank you Yaora,” you smiled softly as you closed the door. The servant girl had just told you that she’d be able to get the things you needed faster than you thought.
Now, you were on your way to Azula, excited to share the good news. You had just reached her door when a soldier stopped you, “The princess wants to be alone at the moment.”
You nodded slowly, confused at Azula sudden mood swing but it wasn’t unusual for her so you shrugged it off and stepped past her door to tell Mai and Ty Lee first.
An almost silent sob stopped your movements. Turning around, a worried frown replaced your grin before you made your way towards Azula’s room, where the heart wrenching sounds emerged from.
“Azula?” You asked, voice so quiet you thought didn’t hear you.
It took her a moment but she eventually answered, “What do you want?” If you didn’t know the princess, you wouldn’t have noticed that she was hiding her shaking voice. Your assumptions were right, she had been crying.
“I thought I heard something,” you responded, closing the door after you’d stepped inside. “Just wanted to check up on you.”
Azula didn’t look into your eyes but the lighting in her room let her cheeks shine with tears. You tried to remember everything you said in search of something that might’ve caused the upset state your friend was in but you couldn’t think of anything. Azula’s emotionless face didn’t give anything away either but you were used to deal with such situations.
“Did I do something?” You questioned, deciding to make sure it wasn’t your fault.
“It’s not what you did just now Y/n.”
To say that you did not expect her answer was the least. The princess was quite known for shutting out her emotions, especially when anybody had hurt her.
You stepp closer, brushing your fingers over your hair. “Then you’ll have to tell me what’s wrong.”
A scoff was returned in answer, “Why would I?”
“Because I want to know what I did,” you responded, trying your best to let your voice stay neutral in order to not make Azula more upset than she already is. “I want to do better Zula, but I can’t do that if you don’t tell me how.”
“If you really wanted to do better than you’d have already noticed,” Azula hissed before she turned away from you.
Your heart sank at her words, you had seen Azula angry several times in the past but it was never directed at you, or so intense. Even though Azula neither shouted nor burned something within her reach, you practically felt the air tensing around the both of you.
“So it is me, I’m the problem,” you breathed, once again trying your best to mask the annoyance.
“It’s what you do Y/n,” Azula whispered.
The sudden what change in her voice had your eyes widen with concern. Not once had Azula opened up to you so quickly.
“What am I doing ‘Zula? I-I can do better just tell me how,” you rambled, rushing closer to her.
Azula flinched when your hand touched her arm. It was bold of you to touch her without her permission but you didn’t care right now.
“Talk to me,” you quietly pleaded as your hands slid up and down her arm.
“I just…” the princess turned away from you, looking to the ground, “Why do you keep messing with me?”
“Messing with you…” You repeated in a whisper. “Why would I mess with you?”
Azula’s voice was quiet and to your own surprise, almost like she’d break out in tears in front of you, “We’ve been friends for so long Y/n, you’re the only person who’s ever seen me vulnerable.”
The princess paused, she thought about what to say next in order to keep her posture, at least that’s what you think she’s doing. While Azula was looking for words, you were deep into your thoughts. You reflected on everything you had done today but nothing could have caused the current state Azula was in right now. Then it hit you, Yaora, the servant you were talking to after you had found a way to get into Ba Sing Se. You didn’t think it caused her discomfort but decided to keep it mind.
“Why can’t you love me back,” a shaky voice brought you back to reality. Azula had turned back to face you. Her expression was emotionless but you saw the shine in her eyes caused by the tears threatening to spill over her cheeks.
Something inside you snapped, making your heart beat faster as you let out a breath you didn’t know was stuck in your throat. A few steps of you brought Azula closer than she had been in a long time.
“You think I don’t love you?” You questioned, irritation lacing your normally confident tone.
“Don’t continue to do this,” Azula muttered as her gaze fell to a rose you had gifted her a while ago on Valentine’s day. You had excused it as a friendly gesture to gift Azula something. “I can’t let you keep messing with me.”
Her fingers aimed for it, seemingly wanting to burn it but she stopped when your hand reached around her wrist and pull her arm towards you.
“I’m sorry,” you simply apologized before Azula could rip out of your grip.
She stopped in her tracks and you thought to see a hint of confusion as her gaze pierced into your eyes, “You’re what?”
“I’m sorry I made you feel that way Zula, I wasn’t intending on making you jealous,” you clarified with a smile, which was just a mask for your fastening heartbeat.
“Does that mean…you’re in love with me as well?”
A chuckle almost escaped you before you covered it up with a nod. It was still a mystery to you, how Azula could be the smartest and the most stupid person in a room at the same time but what should you expect, you knew her father and his opinions well. He wouldn’t teach his protégé things like this.
“It does,” you grinned, pulling her closer once again. “I have been for a long time.”
“Then why did you talk to a servant girl like that?” Azula asked.
You took a deep breath before you smiled, raising her chin with your hand to make her look at you, “We just got along well. I don’t feel anything for her, only for you.”
“Prove it.”
Of course she’d answer something along those lines, you knew about Azula’s childhood, many people had told you about it after you were assigned Azula’s personal guard.
With a smirk, you attached your lips to hers, letting everything around you turn silent. Azula’s lips were surprisingly soft and moved in sync with yours. You pulled her closer, letting her arms wrap around your neck as your hands moved to grip her waist. It was peaceful moment, every of your senses focused solely on the princess in front of you before you slowly pulled away with a smile on your face, “enough prove for you?”
“For now,” she shrugged but you saw a faint blush spreading over her face. “Just don’t ever do this to me again.”
You nodded, even though you knew that it was gonna happen again. Azula gets jealous quite easily. No matter how hard you’ll try, there will be more moments of assuring the princess that she’s the only one you want.
“I won’t, princess,” You reassured with a smirk covering your face.
You heard her take in a sharp breath as she took in the pet name. Azula’s shock was quickly replaced with her usual grin as she began to stroke your jaw with her fingers, “Princess? I like it. You’ll always use it from now on.”
You nestled your head into her neck as you closed your eyes and whispered, “As you wish princess.”

Zuko stood on deck, watching the scene going on from afar. He had never seen you like this before, your eyes narrowed between the captain in front of you and your younger brother next to you and your chest was heaving as if you just ran over the whole ship multiple times. The prince wondered what caused your sudden anger since you’ve always been someone very calm. Sighing, he looked down, Zuko wanted to help you but something stopped him from from walking over to you.
“What is the matter Zuko?” Iroh questioned as he came up behind him, a steaming cup of tea in his hands.
Zuko cleared his throat, turning to look at his uncle, “Y/n is fighting with a soldier over there. I know I should do something but… I- I don’t know how they’ll react. Uncle, I’ve never seen them angry before. Y/n was always so calm, how do I help them?”
Iroh closed his eyes as he let out a small breath, “Anger can twist a person’s mind Zuko, it makes them unpredictable, no matter how calm they usually are. Maybe you should think about what Y/n did when you got angry.”
“They pulled me away, no matter how hard I was fighting against their grip. It annoyed me even more but I always followed them after some time.”
Zuko’s vision filled with the countless nights you had pulled him away from the conflict that caused his anger, all the times he had insulted you in his rage and every time you shook off the horrible things the prince had called you in order to do him and everyone around Zuko a favor. When he thought about it now, he felt bad, disgusted even. You didn’t deserve anything he said.
“Well then you know what you can try,” Iroh interrupted his thoughts with a genuine smile on his face. Zuko nodded before Iroh took a sip of his tea, groaning in satisfaction.
The prince took a deep breath and began to walk across the ship. The wood of the floor creaked beneath the fire bender’s feet, making his presence known before he even reached you. The soldier stopped speaking after Zuko stepped next to you, intimidated by the prince’s glaring.
“Come on Y/n,” he gently whispered in your ear, his hand coming up to your shoulder. It gave you some sort of comfort, though, it wasn’t enough the calm the rage inside you.
Letting him pull you away, the two of you walked to the room you and your brother shared. Not one word was exchanged as you rubbed your eyes with your hands.
“He’s not worth it Y/n. You’re stronger than him, everyone knows that, it’s no use to waste your time with him,” Zuko spoke, his arm now placed around your shoulder.
“You fucking think I don’t know that?” You spat with more venom than you intended to. Part of you felt bad for the way you talked to him but it quickly got pushed away when the soldier’s words flooded your head again.
The prince flinched next to you as your fist collided with the metal wall, creating a horrific sound. “He’ll pay Zuko, he will, right?” You questioned, panting.
“I’ll make sure of that Y/n, whatever he said will have consequences,” Zuko promised with a determined expression.
“Can you leave me alone for a bit? I need time to think,” You asked after you finally looked him in the eye.
You were angry, just like Zuko had been many times before. Yet, you behaved so differently, not once had you insulted him or threatened him like he had done the nights before. Zuko wished he could be more like you, to be able to control his emotions without hurting anyone around like you do.
“Of course, tell me when you want to talk,” the prince responded, not letting his envy show.
Tumblr media
“Zu, can I come in?” You almost silently called into the room after opening the door just a bit.
Somehow, the prince still heard you, turning around to fully open the door for you, “Yes- Yes please come in. Do you want to talk?”
“I wanted to apologize. It was wrong to snap at you, he said something against my brother and it kind of made something go off in me. I’ll make sure it won’t happen again.”
Zuko smiled warmly as he put both of his hands on your shoulders, “There’s no need to apologize Y/n. I did the same thing when I was angry and you never took it personally. Doing the same thing is the least I should do.”
“Zuko…”
“Yes Y/n?
“Thank you, I don’t want to know what would’ve happened if you weren’t there,” you pulled him close to you.
His face nestled in your neck as he closed his eyes, “Of course Y/n, you’ve helped me calm down before, I felt like it was time for to do the same.”
“I’ll always help you Zuko, even if you don’t reciprocate it. You’re my best friend and that’s exactly what friends would do,” you responded honestly.
“I’m happy I was able to help you. Please don’t hesitate to tell me if you’re angry.”
“I will but…”
“But what?” Zuko questioned, pulling away from the hug.
You cleared your throat, the look in your eyes changing back to you usual expression, “I still want him to pay. He said something personal Zuko, I can’t just let him get away with it.”
The prince nodded with a smirk, “Alright, I’ll make sure he knows what he’s done.”
“Thank you, Zuko.”
