We NEED to talk more about how AMAZING was his portrayal of Kuro. Like it was straight up taken from the manga it was super intimidating and natural the biggest surprise and one of my favorites so far. I was giggling every danm time he adjusted his glasses.

A quick recap of my thoughts on OPLA :
Things I liked :
Iñaki Godoy is phenomenal as Luffy, and that's no small feat
In fact, most of the actors were on point. It really feels as if everyone is genuinely having a good time with their characters. Bonus point for Kuro's actor, who was excellent in his interpretation. Also bonus points for Mihawk. For... reasons. (A minute of silence for Ben though...)
The aesthetics : it could have been a lot worse. On the whole the setting and scenery were pretty good !
I liked the idea of adding a new storyline with Garp, Coby and Helmeppo (although it was a bit too much at times).
The French dub was very good (please do yourself a favor and listen to Sanji in French) !
All the little details, cameos and reference to future events : clearly you can see the passion that was put into this project
Things I didn't like :
the pacing was sometimes weird, and a lot of scenes lacked the powerful emotion of the manga.
I'm not sure what tone they were going for : the begining with Alvida is quite violent, but when Zoro is cut by Mihawk, there's no impact ? No blood, no sweat, no acting in pain. The bandages are immaculate. How are we supposed to believe he's on the brink of death ? Same for Nami stabbing her tattoo. The lack of injuries removes the narrative tension.
Sanji was so beautiful, why didn't they give him a proper story T_T
not a fan of the whedonspeak. In general, the dialogues were sometimes too heavy-handed.
Zoro's characterisation was a bit too off for me (even though Mackenyu's performance was a highlight of the show). In One Piece, Zoro is cool. In OPLA, he acts cool, and unfortunately there's a big difference. In OP, Zoro laughs, smiles, jokes, talks normally, has friends (did people forget about Johnny and Yosaku?), has emotions, etc. He's very goal-driven, yes, but also sociable. Not sure why they made him this brooding, aloof, too-cool-for-you type in the live action...
In general, the psychology of the characters feels a bit too one-dimensional, because most of the character development was cut off. Also Nami being constantly depressed was a weird choice.
there were a bit too many moments that were too out-of-character (Nami bribing ? Sanji and Zeff disrespecting food?)
But on the whole I genuinely enjoyed it : no, it was not perfect, and I wish there had been more episodes so as not to rush everything. BUT. It is clear that it was a passion project, full of heart, and that everyone involved did their best. It's not really OP, but it is a love letter to the original, and that it a lot more than we can say about other adaptations.

I am very disappointed that they basically axed Sanji out of his own arc in the live-action. No real moment of his own. No real dilemma about leaving the Baratie. No real fight on his own. He's more or less.... just there. :(
(I still enjoyed the live-action and all that, but still... such a wasted potential, especially since the actor was good.)

Would anyone be interested in a One Piece Frostpunk!AU ?
(With LuSan as the main pairing. I have been playing this game recently and got a few ideas... might write it later.)

I was really worried, but I am surprised at how well they dubbed the teaser in French ! The voices fit, the energy is there, and the translation is well done. Honestly, I cannot help but get more hyped at each new info released. It seems that the people working on the live action really did try to make it as good as possible !

Okay, so here are my (quick) thoughts after watching the OP live action trailer :
Things I like :
The setting/scenery : so far it seems that they have found the right balance between realism and cartoonesque environments (I love what they've done with the Baratie!)
Good adaptation decisions : no long nose for Usopp, no curly eyebrow for Sanji (honestly that's for the best)
Shirtless Sanji
Things I don't like :
Why does Nami's hair look like that ? Come on. Realistic red hairdye exists. And Sanji's hair too : it looks like he washed it with salt (Sanji canonically takes care of his appearance, if a character must have shiny locks it's him!)
The CGI looks kind of cheap... I really hope the fight scenes will look good
I know that it's an adaptation, but I really hope the Straw Hats won't be too out of character : that's what worries me the most, with the "sensing a little bit of tension" line, and Zoro answering "Not a crew" (with Nami it's understandable at the beginning, but for Zoro? Whose loyalty to Luffy is one of his defining characteristic?)
Still, on the whole it could have been a lot worse so I will definitely give it a chance. Plus it feels like discovering OP again (I still love OP, but post-timeskip OP is just not the same). I really hope the series brings back the feelings of adventure, discovery and enthusiam of the beginning.
