Come mai nella tua descrizione hai precisato di essere bianco? Mettendolo anche all’inizio della lista

È il colore della mia pelle. È la prima cosa che si nota, a livello fisico, ma spesso la diamo per scontata e ce ne dimentichiamo. E dato che oramai ci sono molti Italiani neri, l’ho voluta aggiungere a quella lista di dettagli. Andando più in profondità, io incarno perfettamente il prototipo dell’essere umano che i mezzi di comunicazione di massa (non la gente comune) intendono demonizzare e condannare. Sono una persona che ha quelle caratteristiche tali per cui difficilmente un notiziario mi incenserebbe. E difficilmente lo stato sarebbe al mio fianco, in caso di difficoltà. Non faccio notizia, non sono un tipo da copertina, non c’è tanto da romanzare sulla mia storia. Perché? Perché sono una persona normale. Perché non sono utile alla narrazione del potere che vuole un miscuglio sempre più consistente e massiccio di culture, tradizioni, lingue, usi, costumi, etnie, preferenze sessuali. Sono una persona che si alza tutte le mattine per andare a lavorare, paga le tasse, non ha vizi particolari, cerca di vivere una vita nel rispetto delle regole, non bestemmia, crede in Dio, ama (solo) le donne. Mi confondo tra gli altri, non spicco, non sono l’eroe che salverà la patria né il fascista che scenderà in piazza per rivendicare la sua ignoranza. Sono contro il comunismo, non canto “Bella ciao”, ma non nutro certo simpatia né per Mussolini, né per Hitler. Questi regimi sono tutti uguali perché partono dalla stessa mano, perché il potere è Uno. Se vuoi degli esempi concreti della disinformazione di cui spesso vi cibate, te ne faccio uno recente. Qualche giorno fa un ragazzo gay è stato picchiato da dieci africani: silenzio di tomba. Se l’autore del gesto fosse stato un gruppo di bianchi, la notizia sarebbe finita in prima pagina in tutti i giornali e telegiornali. Ma cosa cambia? La violenza è sempre violenza, in questi casi. È ugualmente (molto) grave. Quel povero ragazzo malmenato avrà giustizia? E non si starà forse chiedendo perché di lui abbiano parlato in pochi? È questo, che io condanno: il non voler mettere tutte le vite sullo stesso piano. Perché è facile parlare di uguaglianza (anche se siamo tutti diversi), ma se poi ci sono delinquenti che sono più protetti di altri, la questione diventa a dir poco irritante. E non sto neanche qui a citare ulteriori casi di violenza in cui la cittadinanza del colpevole è omessa. O si omette sempre, o non si omette mai. La riservatezza è garantita solo a giorni alterni? “La legge è uguale per tutti”, è la scritta che campeggia nei tribunali. Ciò non vale però per i giornalisti (che io chiamo giornalai), per chi li comanda, e per chi è al vertice della piramide. Grazie per la domanda, e l’augurio di uno splendido 2020 a te.

Tomorrow's cars and navigation systems

In the not too distant future, head-up display systems will be able to present a whole lot more than the tiny window of static information we’re used to today. Last September Swiss deep-tech start-up WayRay confirmed that it had landed tens of millions of dollars in investment from big name auto companies such as Porsche and Hyundai to fund the development of holographic windshield displays for cars. Now, WayRay is showing off how it works in reality.

Using WayRay’s technology, Hyundai Motor Group has indeed unveiled the world’s first Holographic Augmented Reality (AR) Navigation System equipped in the Genesis G80 at CES 2019 in Las Vegas. This car is just a demo car, but “is an important step towards technology driven innovation,” said Yunseong Hwang, Director of Open Innovation Business Group from Hyundai Motor Group. No need for the driver to wear a headset to enjoy vivid and precise images. With WayRay’s technology, “future mobility windshields will be more than just a piece of glass. AR holographic powered glass will serve as a platform to provide new services and open up new in-vehicle experiences.”

Head-up displays usually show images in a small projected box roughly at the base of the windshield. But WayRay’s AR system projects images all across the windshield. So images can be synchronized with the real-world objects they’re meant to point out and displayed on the actual road. A prompt to turn left could appear to the driver as a giant arrow on the road, for example. Images can also be appropriately adjusted in accordance with the specific viewing angle of the driver, thereby delivering accurate driving guidance and making you a better driver. Additionally, projecting navigational alerts through the windscreen onto the road allows drivers to navigate safely while looking ahead undistracted. Finally, while conventional head-up display (HUD) units project a reflected image indirectly through an LCD screen mounted on the dashboard, the holographic AR display projects an image through the windshield.

WayRay’s display shows not only navigational features - such as lane guidance, destination points, and current speed - in augmented reality, but can work with driver aids like lane departure warnings or forward collision warning, or connected infrastructure. The two parties will continue to work closely together to expand holographic AR technology to display people, objects, buses, bicycle lanes, and crosswalks, and further develop ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system) functions, such as a rear side warning system and the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) system.

In addition, they expect the incorporation of V2X (Vehicle to Everything) technology and connectivity features will allow data such as traffic signals, surrounding vehicle information, as well as road or weather conditions, to be provided in real time. Using V2X communications, the system could show a driver when a traffic light is about to change, according to Hyundai. Audi already has a traffic-light information system in production, but it uses a more conventional dashboard display. Hyundai’s virtual image of 1,310mm x 3,152mm is projected at a distance of 15m from the driver’s eyes; Hyundai Motor Group has adapted its HUD to fit WayRay’s system and offer the optimised solution to drivers.

“As the automotive market is undergoing a profound AR technology-driven transformation, major automakers are quickly adopting AR solutions to find another competitive edge,” said Vitaly Ponomarev, CEO of WayRay. “I believe the strong partnership with Hyundai will help us scale up our deep-tech innovation to build customer-centric solutions at a meaningful scale and make driving more comfortable and safe for everyone.”

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors are concentrating their research and development resources on acquiring AR navigation and other related technologies to improve upon and accelerate the next generation of displays and connected vehicles. Not only will this disruptive technology help Hyundai Motor Group achieve its vision of a more integrated and seamless blending of automotive technologies, but also assist in developing other closely related areas of interest such as wearable robots, smart-buildings, smart-cities and a plethora of other exciting possibilities.

Hyundai would not say if the AR system will ever go into production, only that it will continue working with WayRay to refine the tech. While drivers will likely appreciate clearer directions from their navigation systems, distraction could be an issue.

But other companies are coming forward to offer this type of technology. At the CES tech show in Las Vegas this year, UK firm Envisics gave the BBC an exclusive look at a car dashboard that can display information, directions and points of interest as holograms. The company is now hoping to see its new system adopted by car manufacturers.
