okay so ive been trying to figure out my timeline of relationships bc comics are wonky.

dick liked babs from way back when but he gained a crush on kori when the titans started and they met. dick, your local mess boy, had a crush on just about every teen superhero around his age. dick never purposefully led anybody on nor did he cheat on anyone. what im trying to say is there is no kori/babs rivalry here

“I’m not scared,” he snaps, voice reverberating through the speakers in his helmet. They’re crouched on the roof of a building across the street from one of Scarecrow’s long forgotten hangouts but Jason can still taste the metallic tang the fear toxin usually leaves. “Why would I be scared of some stuffy professor who wears a burlap sack on his head?”

“C’mon, Jay,” Dick laughs, running a hand through the top of his hair, still taken a back by how little hair he has having gone from his mullet to the undercut. “I’ve known you since you were 12 years old, you can’t hide behind your helmet and crime lord reputation with me. I know you, I know your mannerisms and how you act even without the detective training.” With a sigh, Dick looks away from his younger brother and back to surveying the alley. Despite what many others think, Dick is capable of staying quiet. He knows Jason isn’t very talkative so he doesn’t push and he doesn’t try to fill the air with his own voice.

Instead, he unsheathes one of his escrima sticks and tosses it between his hands, back and forth, back and forth. In all honesty, he doesn’t actually know Jason anymore than he did before he die, which to say wasn’t all that much in the first place. He just doesn’t know where to start with getting to know him more, though. He was hard on Jason when he came back, much harder than he should have been considering how rough the boy had it with Bruce. Dick kinda frowns at the train of thought he’s riding because he knows he’s gonna get upset. He knows how upset Bruce had been when he died and how much of a relief it was for him when Jason came back, despite all that had happened. 

Dick may not had been adopted officially until a few years ago but by all means he was Bruce’s son and he had been since he was nine years old. Yet, for some reason, Dick still constantly felt like he had to compete for Bruce’s love with Jason. Bruce would always love Jason unconditionally despite how absolutely different the two were. Bruce was prickly no matter what but it felt different with Jason. He knew it stemmed from his time as Robin. He had been fired for not agreeing with Bruce and not wanting to do things his way. Jason, on the other hand, purposefully did everything he could to spite Bruce and do things the exact Bruce way didn’t want it to happen. Except Bruce never did much more than yell at him and ground him. By all means, Dick had a bad case of the older sibling syndrome.

"You got me detective… looks like I’m going to liars jail"

“Oh shut up, Jay, you had your ‘I’ve got a secret’ face,” he laughed, throwing his head back and smiling wide. It’s rare for him and Jason to joke, they were never really close when they were younger and they weren’t on good terms when Jason came back. He wishes he hadn’t been so hard on him, God knows Bruce already let Jason have a piece of his mind, Dick didn’t need to do the same. 

“I can’t believe you took the Batmobile for a joyride and then lied about it to Bruce’s face.” Dick snorts and tosses his escrima stick from hand to hand, He’s actually a little jealous. He knew Jason was smart, all of the Robins were brilliant it was just a part of the job, but to break into the Batcave, one of the most secured places in the world and then to break into the Batmobile, a heavily armored car with layers upon layers of security, is beyond difficult and must have taken forever. But knowing Jason he probably did it all in under an hour. “Old habits die hard, huh?” he teases.
