I’m more inclined to believe that there has never been an “authentic” Ultra Magnus in the IDW 2005 continuity. Or rather, the so-called authentic Ultra Magnus was not a concrete Cybertronian, but a concept created by Tyrest—much like how Ronald Dworkin coined the concept of Hercules in his jurisprudential works. It referred neither to the Hercules of Greek mythology nor to any specific judge who ever existed. Instead, it was meant to be a theoretical judge—one who possesses perfect discernment. Perhaps for Tyrest, all the Ultra Magnuses were merely players or, in Nietzsche’s words, “a bridge, not a purpose”. The real Ultra Magnus is a metaphysical being that can never be reached, for it is transcendental—beyond worldly senses, experience, or even existence itself.

If I had a nickel for a movie released about best friends becoming enemies due to a shocking twist in leadership that changes their world as they know it, causing once the two friends to become foes because of their difference of views toward the situation, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Hi 👋, My name is Mohammad, and I’m reaching out in a moment of desperate need. I’m a father of three young children living in Gaza, and we are caught in the midst of a catastrophic war. Our home is no longer a safe haven, and the future here seems increasingly uncertain. 💔
I’ve launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $40,000 to relocate my family to a safer place where my children can grow up in peace and have a chance at a brighter future.
Unfortunately, my previous fundraising efforts were abruptly halted when my account was terminated without explanation. However, I remain determined to keep fighting for my family’s safety and well-being. 🫶
If you could take a moment to read our story, consider donating, or simply share our campaign with others, it would make an incredible difference. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to safety and a new beginning. 🙏
Thank you for your time, compassion, and support. ❤️🩹

Prowl's baseline test - an IDW 2005/Blade Runner 2049 crossover
I couldn't help but notice the parallels between the scripts of the baseline test (which are also excerpts from Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire) and the events in Prowl's life. He was a basic functioning unit, a cold-constructed bot, a cell, institutionalized to be a logical being that is disctinct, but at the same time interlinked in many ways through hatred, betrayal, regret and most importantly, love

Just brought up these Tyrest and Prowl parallels to James Roberts at TFNation 2024, where he confirmed he had no plans for their correlations in the first place. The ambiguity about Aequitas’ inventor wasn’t intended too, but rather a continuity thing that he should have worked out with Nick. He also said, however, it would make sense if Prowl has approval issues from Tyrest, so that his meanness to Minumus and Fort Max could be interpreted as a sign of jealousy. And it is also a good idea to interpret the ‘plot contradiction’ as Tyrest, Prowl and Tarantulas being co-founders of Aequitas. Bless you James Roberts!
My theories on IDW 1.0 Tyrest and Prowl might be… Unconventional. Somehow a lot of plot just makes more sense if you put them in a parent-child relationship (a somewhat morbid and twisted version, cf. Neon Genesis Evangelion, High Evolution and Rocket Racoon, etc.)
What we already know from the comics is that Tyrest is the creator of all cold-constructed bots. In a way he is a patriarch or matriarch for them all. It makes one wonder how the shift in his attitude towards his creatures came to be - could he have done experimentation on them to strengthen his caste ideology and eugenics assumptions, similar to those of Wehrmacht Germany?
Imagine Prowl was once a guinea pig at Tyrest’s lab, tortured, abused, but also significantly enhanced in terms of computing power. Tyrest saw great potential in him, yet still constantly denied and condescended him due to Prowl’s “characteristic flaws”. A narcissistic and manipulative parent like Tyrest would often compare Prowl with Ultra Magnus, his perfect creation and his favorite protege, just to show little Prowl how he is not enough. As a result, Prowl became fixated on proving his worth to Tyrest in the fear of being rendered useless by him.
Some of Prowl’s later-life behaviors might thus be better explained given this toxic childhood:
Prowl abandoned Fortress Maximus on Garrus-9, partially because Fort Max was the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord. Fort Max bearing this title was like a walking humiliation to Prowl, one that he could not stand. He could not think of the possibility that Tyrest picked Fort Max instead of him.
Aequitas could be an olive branch that Prowl held out to Tyrest, an attempt to fix their relationship and to impress his creator and mentor. In the comics it was ambiguous as to who invented Aequitas - in MTMTE it was Tyrest, and in Wreckers trilogy Prowl and Tarantulas - but what if they worked on the project together?
Prowl’s obsession in creating artificial life might have derived from his past with Tyrest as well. Creation is a means for Prowl to stand in Tyrest’s shoes, so that he could see things his way or even become like him.
Prowl sent Skids and Getaway to mind-assassinate Tyrest but kept him alive, because he was still grateful of Tyrest for giving him life despite all the torment that came with it?

This idea struck me that what if Clock Drift is a movie adaptation of the story between Drift and Rodimus, perhaps similar to Social Network (2013)? There could be a guest panel on the day of the premiere featuring the story’s protagonists themselves:
One of the questions from the host was “Any adaptations that drifted/deviated too far from the facts?” Drift mentioned there was technically no such concept of “angels” in spectralism. Introducing the word “angel” to the film was part of the screenwriter’s plan to facilitate understanding among the vast organic audience, and of course to build a more solid conversation at the climax. And then Drift begun to elaborate on the minute differences between Cybertronian religions, before he was cut off by an impatient Rodimus, saying “you know this is not something they wanna hear about”. Rodimus’ answer to this question was: Drift didn’t act as bossy as he was depicted in the movie when they first reunited. As a matter of fact, he appeared much cooler and gentler than Rodimus had expected. “Frankly, I was pretty mad at you for a while,” Drift commented, “it’s just I’m better that mood management.”
Before long the host asked another question like “Was there really a contract to sell Rodimus’ soul?” Drift denied it with absolute certainty, claiming there’s no slavery in modern, civilized Cybertron. “However,” he said as he grinned, “Rodimus did promise that in case he ever hurts me or vexes me again, he’d issue an Indulgence to me each time he does that. So this Indulgence thing is like a voucher, a chance for me to do whatever I want with him.” The host sensed something intriguing to follow up and asked, “How many of those vouchers have you got so far?” It was Rodimus who answered, with some inexplicable eagerness, “two - and neither of them has been used.” Drift cast an esoteric glance at Rodimus: “I do have some plans for them, one of which is the trip that we’ve been pushing off for too long, and the other… We’ll, I’d better not spoil the surprise too soon.” Rodimus, seeing the smile on Drift’s faceplate, sputtered nervously: “Is it… is it going to be the kind of surprise that I love?” Drift shook his head, still smiling, “Sorry, Roddy, probably not.”
And the last question has to be “Do you still have feelings for each other?” Drift and Rodimus responded almost simultaneously, the former saying no while the latter saying yes. There was an embarrassing moment of silence hovering above them as their optics met. Drift asked Rodimus “what kind of feelings”, and Rodimus stated, in aserious matter more than ever, “I feel like we’re going to achieve something together.” “Alright,” Drift said, “I feel the same way.”
Translation of my recent favorite. Death Stranding hit Cybertronians pretty hard, but some of them found a way out of it - perhaps an even better way than what could have been without it.

Just discovered this soundtrack that I never knew it existed until today and I am now full of questions like:
1. Why is Rex’s theme called blueberry instead of strawberry, raspberry, lingonberry, cranberry or anything that’s red
2. Why does Mark’s theme sound so similar to Rex’s as if they’re two variations of the same melody
3. Why does Universa have a theme song while she’s not in the animation at all (future plans perhaps?)
