Once again, not dead!
Making even a game when you have next to no skills of your own is incredibly daunting...I mean I can draw ok and have ideas but ideas and concept doodles does not a game make... I still would like this idea to get somewhere though.
One day maybe, when I have the money to pay folks who actually know what they're doing.

Not much of an upgrade but fluffy tails are a must.

I really like how these came out!
These are one of the 12 planned species of the game!

Hyenas!
I’m not very satisfied with the adult’s face, it looks more dog than hyena. I’ll likely redo it before I start thinking up markings.
One of the planned 12 species for the game.

Pets can be assigned roles, these roles enable you as the player to do things like craft items, explore for loot, and gather food and other items.
So far I have three thought up, two of them split off into more specialized roles. I’m sure I’ll come up with more the more I flesh out the exploring, crafting, and gathering mechanics. I would love some feedback on these, ideas and suggestions are much appreciated.
Explorer
Explorers go out into the wilderness in search of Ruins (dungeons essentially, I’ll make a post about them soon) and other such things to snoop around in and bring back loot.
This then splits off into the Scout and Delver roles
Scouts give their team a higher chance of encountering Ruins and shorten the time their team takes exploring them.
Delvers increase the chance of their team completing a Ruin and getting better loot.
Craftsman
Craftsmen enable the player to craft items, and as the craftsman levels more things are made available to craft.
This then splits off into Alchemist and Cooks.
Alchemists look into the science of magic and the magical sciences and have such things as species-change items and sex-change items items available for them to craft at higher levels.
Cooks use food items found by Gatherers and Explorers to whip up various dishes that better fill stomachs and possibly even offer special perks.
Gatherers
Gatherers collect food for everyone, Herbivores bring back more plants, Carnivores bring back more meat, and Omnivores bring back a bit of both.

I might as well show you the deer though. Dymorphic traits will still be available to turn on/off in this form. God these are ugly haha.

So about those obtainable alternate forms for pets.
Here’s an idea for one I’m called the “Soulbound Golem”. Your pet turns into a living statue. This form is extremely rare and is a permanent transformation. In this form, the pet cannot breed and has none of the markings its original form did (it will keep it’s colors however) and new markings will not be able to be applied. This form will come with some good perks though (not sure what those are right now though).
What I have drawn here is just sorta the jist of what they’d look like, I’m hoping to get them closer to how I see them in my head soon (right now it looks like I slapped on some crap tribal tats onto this poor rabbit, but it’s a start haha). I had others drawn but this was my favorite.

Hey guys! I’m not dead! I got a job and that’s been taking up a lot of my personal time and energy.
But that aside here are some ideas I’ve had recently: Adults and babies have one pose plus/minus dymorphic traits (which perhaps can be switched on or off no matter the sex?). But perhaps there are special forms that can be obtained through quests, scavenging, or crafting.

first official attempt at pixel art haha
I really like the idea for the game’s art being pixel art. Stuff can be beautiful and has the feel of old rpgs and adventure games, which is perfect for my current idea for the game!

Lore??
Head Deities • Ravi - Sun God • Lalin - Moon God
Lesser (but still super important) Deities • Tempus - God of Spring • Calor - God of Summer • Arbores - God of Autumn • Hiems - God of Winter
Ravi and Lalin are the oldest and were the ones that molded the landscape and made all life. They made most of it while still young and were like “holy shit we can make stuff!” and were treating the world like their own personal game of the minecraft . Later in life they slowed way down took their time and eventually they decided to let the world grow on its own after the high of creation finally wore off.
They still make stuff though, just not as often.
The other four sprung up with the first seasons. All the meddling of the first two kinda tilted the world and have rise to them.
These guys can only manipulate the world and cannot actually create anything, at least not like the first two can.
These guys eventually granted intelligence to various animal races more or less for fun.

Teams
You can group your pets(with roles) into teams. For Gatherers and Scavangers these teams can either increase quality or quantity of things brought back. For Explorers this makes it easier to find things while travelling around the map. For Scavangers looting ruins, a team decreases the amount of time they take doing it. Gatherer Team Max: 6 Scavanger Team Max: 6 Scavanger Max (Ruins): 4 (?) (Craftsmen could also be put into a team to decrease how long it takes to research a new blueprint or decrease the time it takes to make something?)

Apprentices
Say you have an Explorer who no longer fits with your current aesthetic, or maybe you’re just tired of looking at them.
Problem is that they are your highest level Exploerer and losing them means losing all those levels you worked so hard for.
A solution to this could be Apprentices.
Any pet that does not currently have a role assigned to them can be set as an apprentice to another pet.
The apprentice will then have the other pet’s levels and knowledge transferred over to them. How long this takes depends on the level of the pet.
Once the transfer is done, the old pet’s level will go back to 1 and will have their role reset to none.
And there you go! You now have a shiny, new head Explorer and can get rid of the old one without losing anything.
