Ghost didn't know how to ask.

Didn't know how to ask to join that game of cards that seemed to be on the edge of turning into a fistfight, didn't know how to ask for a shared smoke behind the barracks, didn't know how to ask for that hug he desperately needed – didn't know how to ask to be treated like a human.

And yet Soap knew it all anyway.

Knew that he could rest his head on a sturdy shoulder without a second thought, knew that those conversations on a rooftop at night expose more of a human than having them cut open on an operation table, knew that sometimes having little plastic houses thrown at you over a game of Monopoly can feel like healing.

Ghost didn't know how to ask for that little bit of comradery, of friendship. But Soap knew that offering was a good step towards getting him there.
