ŻABA ✷ FROG ✷ (Ranidae) ✷ "Przed wschodem słońca łapali trzy jednakowe żabki (liczby magiczne), a następnie wsadzali je żywe do mrowiska na sześć tygodni. Po tym czasie zbierali pozostałe kosteczki, tłukli je na proszek, wsypywali do jakiegoś trunku i podawali wybranej osobie, która oczywiście nie wiedziała co pije. Skutek był natychmiastowy: ofiara czarów myślała tylko o tym, kto przyrządził ów napój, tęskniła, w końcu się zakochiwała." ✷ "Before sunrise, they would catch three identical little frogs (magic numbers), and then put them alive into an anthill for six weeks. NIETOPERZ •• BAT •• (Chiroptera) 🦇 "Nietoperz okazywał się szczególnie pomocny w czarach miłosnych. W całych polskich Karpatach zakochani używali do zdobycia wzajemności jednej z jego kosteczek - mającej kształt grabi. Złapane zwierzątko należało żywcem zakopać w mrowisku, najlepiej wtedy gdy, księżyc był w nowiu. Po pewnym czasie wyjmowano ową kosteczkę i dyskretnie przyciągano nią partnera." 🦇 A bat was found to be particularly helpful in love spells. Throughout the Polish Carpathian Mountains, lovers used one of its bones - shaped like a rake - to win each other's affection. The captured creature had to be buried alive in an anthill, preferably when the moon was new. BYDŁO ••• CATTLE - "Dobre rezultaty dawały również następujące poczynania: pasterz brał do do jednej ręki wesz, a do drugiej pchłę, po czym biegł nago na granicę wsi. Jednego owada wypuszczał z jednej strony granicy, drugiego - z drugiej. "Ręce zegarmistrza" (a story by Joanna Bator). An illustration I did for Magazyn Pismo (december issue). It was for a short story about an old clockmaker who finds an abandonded dog in the winter forest. How this dog affects his life?
