We might actually get more than the tiniest crumbs of Harwin Strong tonight -

So Harwin wasn’t among the potential suitors Rhaenyra was seeing during the scene in 1x04? Did she refuse him? Why is that?

So complicated answer; in the book yes, in the show? Not so certain.

Strictly talking about the show here; Harwin was not one of Rhaenyra's potential suitors in the opening scene of 1x04 and as far as we're aware Harwin wasn't one of Rhaenyra's unseen potential suitors prior to that scene. We'll hopefully get more scenes with Harwin in the week's episode which will hopefully explain why that was but the show has already alluded to two reasons as to why he wasn't a contender for Rhaenyra's hand.

His father is Lord Lyonel, the Master of Law on the small council, who is the one who actually proposed the match between Rhaenyra and Laenor. Unlike Otto who pushed Alicent onto Viserys as soon as he possibly could, Lyonel seems to be able to separate his personal ambitions from what's good for the realm so Harwin wouldn't have been pushed towards Rhaenyra by his father, when he's the one suggesting Laenor to Viserys.

We learn from Rhaenyra's reaction to Lord Dondarrion (the first potential suitor we saw, who was over fifty years her senior) that potential suitors submitted themselves. Likely knowing his father was suggesting a match between Rhaenyra and Laenor and not wanting to perhaps anger his father, he didn't submit himself as a potential suitor.

So far we've only received crumbs with Harwin but hopefully we'll gain more insight on him in the upcoming episodes.

In the book, it's mentioned that he was one of Rhaenyra's potential suitors but we don't receive much information other than that. We do know that Viserys does threaten to remove Rhaenyra as heir and put Aegon in her place if she didn't marry Laenor and it's not really until she's married that things between her Harwin kick off (in one account, Mushroom on the other hand says things between them kicked off earlier).

It's important to note that Fire and Blood is not the bible, unlike the asoiaf series we don't get anyone's point of view. It's essentially a fake history book written by Maesters more than a hundred years after the events took place with them drawing from biased accounts and hearsay and rumours, so while the events themselves did happen, Fire and Blood like a real history book can still get things wrong. Like Marie Antoinette for instance never said let them eat cake but most believe she did because that was how the story was told. Add in the medieval setting of the asoiaf universe, the multiple wars between the Dance and Robert's Rebellion after which the book was written and the lack of "primary" sources, there's going to be inaccuracies and discrepancies.

Yeah I'm really uncomfortable with Rhaenyra and Daemon especially pre the upcoming time jump. Like being literally uncle and niece aside which is disgusting anyway but this is the asoiaf universe and they're Targaryens, but him having known her entirely life, hinted to have been grooming her for years especially as she got closer to the throne -

Some of y'all: how can she be groomed by him? Look she wanted to keep going, she wanted him, it was consensual! How grooming if she wanted it?

Some of y'all truly don't understand how grooming works do you? And please, let's not pretend he doesn't have ulterior motives, he was going to compromise her (changed his mind) in order to try to force Viserys to marry them to avoid Rhaenyra's reputation being stained which he did try anyway when her reputation was in question even though he didn't go through with it. Why would he do this? Daemon wants to be King, by marrying Rhaenyra he can effectively try to rule through her. One of the reasons certain people sided with the Greens instead of the Blacks was because they didn't want that to happen.

"Daemon is such a feminist teaching Rhaenyra how sex can be pleasurable for both men and women!" He refuses to refer to his wife by name, instead calling her his "bronze bitch". Calls her womb a hostile environment and with his whole chest said that the men of the Vale (her home!) are said to fuck sheep and that he believes that the sheep are prettier than the women (ie her). Maybe put some respect on Rhea Royce's name before branding this man a feminist.

Harwin is Rhaenyra's superior (male) love interest and I'll die on that hill. Sees her covered in blood returning to camp? Instant heart eyes, is like "fuck yes! That's my girl!" Sees her literally crash into him in dark ass alleyways she as a princess really shouldn't be in? Well, Mama Strong didn't raise no snitch, have mischievous fun princess! He's had what like 3 miniscule scenes? & he's my favorite male character lmao
