Take your favorite nickname and make it into a character. Sketch out the character–appearance, likes, dislikes, personality. Write the story of how they got their name.

Please feel free to share.
So here's THE ACTUAL deal with the whole "Mr. Potato Head" situation.
No one- not a single group of LGBT+ folks or their allies, went on social media or to the Hasbro factory like, "hey, all toys should be gender neutral. Change this NOW." This is why the toys themselves will remain Mr. And Mrs. Potato Head. The brand, however, will be changed to just Potato Head.
YOU ARE BUYING INTO OUTRAGE (AND BEING TRANSPHOBIC) BECAUSE A TOY BRAND WANTS FREE PR. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE STORY.
Generally, when a company changes its name, it's either changing because of public outrage (this is NOT THE CASE, I promise you) or it's to rebrand and make more products.
Imagine a whole line- Baby Potato Head, Potato Pets, Stepdaddy Potato, whatever. It's possible, and profitable. I honestly forgot Potato Head existed outside of Toy Story before this fiasco. I would bet anything this is a tactic to sell toys on Easter, upcoming birthdays, and eventually, Christmas.
If Mr. Potato Head was actually going gender neutral due to inclusivity, the LGBT+ community would have asked for a "Mx. Potato Head". There's more to the community than angry non-binary TikTokers, and people in the community- generally- also respect the binary. This is not our trademark way of changing things. It's not our battle to win. We never cared.
Mr. Potato Head is a toy that can be any gender. It's a piece of plastic with interchangeable parts. But it's also a *character*. The character himself is a boy, that's how he was made, how the creator imagined him. Just like any other male characters in history, you can have your head canons and AUs and fanfiction, but the character will always be male.
