i grew up in a densely populated urban neighborhood so i am obviously speaking from that experience but i think even if you live in a suburb or a small town or whatever and you feel like there's very little crime where you live then it's just objectively dumb to not lock your door. and again it takes 2 actual seconds.
#we had neighbors when i was a kid where they left the door unlocked and someone came into their house and stole the mom's purse off the#kitchen counter and also a bicycle while the family was upstairs and like. IM SORRY BUT YOU WERE STUPID TO NOT LOCK IT

you know how sometimes you see a shape from a distance and hope it's a cat or other small pettable animal. but it turns out to be just a plastic bag or something. well that's sort of what just happened to me, except for some reason i decided it must be a gargoyle statue someone had decided to abandon on the side of the road. so i think i may have just had a truly unique human experience.
