Birrieria & Taqueria Cortez is one of two local trucks that sprang up and into popularity recently in Fort Worth. Even just after opening for the day, they quickly gathered a full line of cars waiting for tacos.
They were really, really good. Almost like mini quesadillas, three tacos were pliable and filled with cheese and beef. They were savory, beefy, rich, and creamy from the cheese. I almost didn’t mind the juices and grease spilling out onto my shirt and seatbelt.
Definitely worth a visit, just make sure you have napkins or wet wipes on your visit.

Velvet Taco is still serving up their hipster-fusion style of tacos during these strange times, and two brew burger variants are up for grabs. Both are good and held up to the delivery time it took to bring them westward. The bacon bleu was darn good.

I braved the wicked hellscape that is outside my apartment to grab tacos from Mariachi's Dine-In. I've heard great things about this little place crammed inside a gas station for a while and finally went there with a work homie to grab lunch and enjoy it six feet away from each other at the park.
The asada vegano was a bit weird flavor wise for me, despite having good texture. Overly sweet and not in a recognizable way.
The pastor though has flavor in spades. It's probably in my top three in town now, having that winning combination of sweet, earthy, salty, chewy, and a bit of acidity.

Another breakfast taco from 7-Eleven. Not bad for a dollar. Nothing spectacular though.

Those crazy kids at Taco Bell are at it again. They recently launched the Flaming Hot Doritos Locos Taco and it's storm supreme counterpart. Both had a pleasing heat that lingered at a medium level for a while. The supreme version felt more balanced with the extra toppings adding cooling and relief from the spice.

You know who's really killing it with the delivery and pop-up game right now? Bad Spanish Tacos. I can't open Instagram without seeing them post about a delivery deal or a tag team with a brewery for curbside beer and taco pickup.
This six taco kit was have delivered to the Dave Cave with all the fixings (Baja Blast sold separately) and let me tell you – moist, flavorful chicken with juices for days.
Despite the assembly required, the chicken was fragrant, the red salsa was packed spice, brightness, and earthiness, and everything worked well in every combination.

Salsa Limon is continually in the top three recommendations I give folks who ask about the best in town. So it's no surprise when I saw them in the Favor delivery page, I went for it.
The delivery listing added extra flavor notes not support obvious when ordering in the restaurant. I was pleased to discover that I could taste the individual honey pepper and mustard flavors in the chicken, and they worked beautifully together.

One of my last taco experiences in Dallas before the outbreak was Revolver Taco Lounge.
Despite occupying the tiniest space I can imagine outside of a truck, Revolver Taco Lounge can really pack in both customers and flavor. Both the pulpo and pastor had earthy, spicy, chewy goodness. I think the pulpo was a hair more balanced with acidity, but both are worth the trip, assuming they're open for takeout.

Another pre-outbreak taco experience was at Dallas chain Cafe Brazil's Deep Ellum location, where I experienced their breakfast pancake tacos.
And what an experience they were! Delicious, messy, and a scrumptious mix of savory and sweet. Decidedly not healthy, but sometimes diner food really do be that way. YOLO.

I still have a few pre-outbreak taco experiences to share. One was a trip into Ridgmar Mall to try Taco Masters.
It's not often a mall-based eatery sports a "best of" certificate from a local magazine, but I suppose their self-proclaimed mastery had to come from some affirmation of their self-confidence.
I'm a pastor Stan and honestly theirs was middle of the road. Their asada was fantastic, though. Tender, meaty, savory, and simple.
