"Alright, Veno. Clementia won't say it, and Helia is screaming at our ears, but we're not going to make you starve to death while you're alone. Here, try to make something simple."
Tumblr media
"I don't want to do this either, Clementia kept bringing it up." Despite her being... normally silent. "Whatever. She says you look like someone from a high-tech envrionment, so you don't know your way around nature."
"We're going to make some vegetable soup. Gets some roots, herbs, dried meat, and find a source of wataer. Boil the water first, of course. Can you do all taht?"
OC Lore! How well can Veno cook :D

"Awfully polite for a band of soldiers. Very well."
Veno holds his chin in silence, his eyes darting to and fro. He focuses on a large building nearby, and in an instant he dashes to it in a line of red, black, and gold.
A few minutes later, various items appear next to Berry and the leader in between similar dash lines to and from that building. It starts with a shopping basket and is followed by potatoes, carrots, sprigs of rosemary, boxes of beef broth, a four pound chuck roast, and a cast iron pot.
There is a pause before he gets to work where he snaps his fingers at himself and goes back for a knife and cutting board, which takes him a moment of being in the store.
Tumblr media
"You mowed through this town recently, right?" he asks the fairies while slowly cubing the carrots and potatoes. "That old-timey grocery store still has tons of kinda-fresh food despite everything."
"Several of those green bullets from Clementia are in there too, if she wants those back."

Lore + But actually tell me about Amelia's love life
Muh Lore and Lore Accessories!
Tumblr media
Emily's love life is, well, non-existent. She has never had any interest in romance or anything of the sort. The closest she has gotten to having a love life is after Zak'yanna saved her life during her battle with Yugveer in another galaxy, when the two of them became inseparable, figuratively and at times (and until recently) literally. To this day, despite having two children with her, she still considers what she and Zak'yanna have not as love but as the best friendship one can possibly have. That said, she does respect that Zak has such feelings for her herself. Or at least, something close.
...oh, wait, you asked about Amelia's love life?
Well, it's a complicated topic, but...

Lore + Give me the Woman Lore
Muh Lore and Lore Accessories!
Tumblr media
Did somebody say woman? Well here is woman!
Former spacecraft repair woman, to be precise, as this was the first job Gates ever had. She made a fair amount of money for the work it entailed and that she did. It was grueling despite all the technological advancements leading up to the 3530's, but more importantly, it was a monotonous and dull living.
Thankfully she found hobbies here and there to spice up her life and keep her from going insane from the monotony of her day job.

Tumblr media
"A bit westbound..." the Slayer hummed to herself. "...unknown distance... probably not far and on a rock... Yeah, that's good enough for me. Hop aboard."
The Slayer waved Ellen aboard her ship before sliding back into the driver's seat of it. Once Ellen was aboard, she swiped down on her navigation system to attempt to sync it up with Ellen's tracking device. She found the match and selected it, and an arrow appeared on the navigation system directed westward.
Tumblr media
"Grudge? Well, no." She flipped open a small storage compartment during takeoff. The smell of chili powder, cumin, and fresh vegetables once again filled the cockpit. "Not exactly against him in particular." A small nod, and she closed the compartment. "...I just see no reason to bring him in alive, that's all. Much faster to bag'em, tag'em, and be done with it."
"Speaking of, how do you usually approach your kills? Long distance headshots? Close-quarters? Something in between, maybe with an explosive or two? I'm a mid-ranger myself, though I can be flexible so we don't get in each other's way."
Ellen tilts her head a little, trying to recall whether or not she's heard the name before. It feels familiar... Considering that Slayer is a bounty hunter, it's possible she's seen her name pop up in a database somewhere.
"Slayer, huh?" Ellen grins behind her visor at the name, taking a liking to it. She's a little jealous she didn't think of it first, in fact.
"Well Slayer, he landed just a bit... west. As for how far he's gone, that's uncertain. But he couldn't have gotten far with how bad his ship looked. He's probably a sitting rock about now." She says while briefly looking at her device's compass.
Tumblr media
"Why, you got a grudge against him? I definitely wasn't planning on bringing him in alive, so if you wanna take him out together, I'd be more than happy to."

Stardrifting Departure
Tumblr media
"..."
Tumblr media
"At least now, I can say I try my damnedest."
"Sigh..."
--------------------------------------------------
Two Nights Ago...
SLAP!
"FUCK!" cried Jiphoshraton, glasses broken and tumbling to the ground of his quarters with another crack.
"No no, let me see if I have this right," fumed Aethab, who had just backhanded Jiphoshraton's glasses and destroyed them. "You've been sneaking out past curfew. You've been talking to that human in the cell. You've been basing your research and conclusions on what he's been telling you - instead of literally anything anyone else besides me has done here."
"...and you're sharing it with KOLARIS?!"
"Aethab, if you'd let me, I wa--"
"Was what?? Getting to WHY?!"
"YES! Vopahu on high, I was about to tell you that freezing bastard caught me on the second night and bribed it out of me!"
"Oh, so that's why you tunneled around the real info when it came to me but just gave it all to him?"
"Again. YES."
"I can't even..."
"Do I look like I wanted to tell anybody what I was doing at night, let alone fucking Kolaris?!"
"But why wouldn't you, Jeff? I thought the twelve of us were a team! That we were in this together!"
"You would've told the High Elder, Aethab!"
Silence. "...okay, and?"
"Don't 'and' me, biologist, you know you would've recommended I be sent home for health's sake."
"You can't possibly know that for sure, Jeff. You're no mind reader."
"I know an honest and concerned woman when I see the back of her hand shatter the glasses in front of my baggy eyes."
"I..." Aethab pondered over her response to Jiphoshraton's words. She sighed. "You could have at least shared a little bit of it directly."
"I feared it'd all have gone to waste if I did," sighed Jiphoshraton. "Between you, Kolaris, the others not listening to me since day six... oh, who am I kidding, I did this all to myself."
"Hmm... I won't deny that for certain... but let's say you're right about me. That I'll report what you've been doing to the High Elder in the morning. What's the point of holding out on me at this point?"
"..."
"..."
"You're not jealous of him, are you?"
"Of course I'm jealous, why do you think I'm so mad right now?"
"No, but you're right." The Onu-Korian gunsmith reached for his desk drawer, sifting through the disorganized papers in it. "I'm already caught, so why bother hiding anything anymore?"
"I could just beat it out of Kolaris, you know. Since you shared it all with him anywa--"
"Not this."
He slapped three sheets of paper onto his desk, pointing Aethab to them. She swiped them and read through the top half of the first, narrowing her eyes.
"Shit... no wonder you've been so dizzy and aloof all day!"
"Yeah, staying up all night to handwrite private research that I could've been voice-recording instead will do that to a guy."
"And you've..." Aethab flipped to the second page. "...no, he doesn't have any of this. I can tell."
"Take it all, honestly."
"For real?"
"Yeah. There's a good chance I'll be out after tomorrow. So I may as well leave it with somebody, right?"
"..."
"We're a team, aren't we?"
--------------------------------------------------
Last Night...
A knocking sound came through the speaker next to Jiphoshraton's door. He rolled out of bed to answer, first looking out through the peephole. Aethab. Of course.
He opened the door.
"I've already said my goodbyes, Aethab."
"This isn't about that, Jeff. I have a different question, before you leave tomorrow."
"Look, I already told you I'm forbidden from sharing anything I've done here with you. High Elder's order."
"Yes, I know. I'm not here about that, though."
"Then why are you here? If you need gun expertise for some reason, you can just talk to Taijun or--"
"You wrote that one thesis on concentrating the power of military-grade defense turrets into a personal weapon, correct?"
"..."
"Yeah, I did... wait, I thought they pulled it after--"
"They did, yes. It's archived, though. I just can't find it anywhere with the bricks we've been given, which makes talking to you now my only chance to learn what you wrote."
"...and why do you need to know?"
"I can't say. Not out here."
Whether it was the delirium setting in again or an improperly applied and fallen contact lens, Jiphoshraton could have sworn he saw Aethab wink at him. What she said to him may as well have been an audible wink. He slowly blinked.
"...buy me a Bonshuta and it's a deal."
"I only have four." Aethab revealed her possession of four energy drinks of that brand on her person. "That enough?"
"That'll work." Jiphoshraton waved her inside, shutting his door behind the two of them.
--------------------------------------------------
Today...
Tumblr media
"Well, there's the train back home," said the gunsmith, who rose from the bench and walked to the inter-korian shuttle bound for his hometown. About halfway there, he received an alert on his wristwatch, raising it to swipe away a daily credit score reminder message when he instead saw an urgent message from the High Elder of Gelida that froze him in place.
"Jiphoshraton," it read, "Return to the Holy Temple of Awakening. Immediately."
Tumblr media
"...Aethab, what the hell did you DO?!"
The gunsmith swiftly turned westward and ran as fast as he could, back to the temple he had just been dismissed from.

Gates nodded. "Less approachable" was a rather pleasant way of describing the less than pleasant characters she encountered. She was about to explain how most monetary transactions are actually conducted in the late thirty-sixth century when the shrine maiden handed her... small, brass-looking coins? How quaint.
Tumblr media
"Putting it lightly there" replied Gates, accepting two of the coins. She pulled up her watch to review the Shinto shrine customs she had open earlier. Toss a coin, ring the bell, two deep bows, two loud claps, a silent prayer to the god(s), and one more deep bow. Simple enough...
"Okay..."
Properly positioning herself, she tossed a coin into the offering box and reached up to ring the bell, only to notice the coin had bounced off the wood and was rolling away from her inside the shrine. She dropped the second coin in the box more carefully and more certainly. A careful reach upward to ring the bell. Two deep bows, holding her hands together. Two loud claps. Eyes closed, as she prayed in her heart and mind.
Oh Kanako, god of this grand Shinto shrine. If thou be willing, please hear my prayer. For my nearest and dearest friend was stolen from me, and I've no path to follow to find her. In thee I entrust my faith, that I may receive thy guidance and direction, such that I may at last find her and save her from her captor.
One last deep bow, to seal the deal. A warmth in her heart.
After a moment of contemplation, she turned around and proceeded to take a seat on the steps leading up to that offering box, sighing as she rested. Right, the shrine maiden wanted to chat.
Tumblr media
"Anything specific you're wondering about?" she asked the maiden. "A lot has changed between now and thirty-five seventy-three, and I can't possibly cover all of it."
Nothing about what Gates had said was really coming as any surprise to Sanae, of course. Especially her being the most relatable person Gates had met - that went without saying. As for the other quality...
Tumblr media
"Uh-oh. Sounds like you ran across some of our less approachable Gensokyo people, huh?" All manner of names had already sprung to mind, the tengu and kappa chief among them. Neither one would probably be too kind to a random human stranger. "To be honest, I wasn't really expecting you to have any money in your pocket anyway. I haven't met that many Outside Worlders lately, but I guess it's become a big thing to pay for stuff with your phone these days, right?"
Still, Gates' words about being willing to give faith a try for once made Sanae's choice clear. Reaching down into her own coin purse, she pulled out a few mon and held them out for the stranger to take. True, the money would be mostly going right back to her, but observing the proper ritual was important. "You're probably not used to faith working miracles," she said, "but if you're willing to trust in the Gods just once, this is the best place to do it by far. You can trust me on that."
Tumblr media
A sudden clap of her hands. "And then after you're done with that maybe we could have a chat? I really don't get news that often so I'm curious how things have changed!"

Stardrifting Confession
"Rise, Onu-Korian."
The Onu-Korian - Jiphoshraton - rose to his feet after kneeling before the High Elder of Gelida in his office throne room. To his right were two Ko-Korians: Hyael and Kolaris, who had summoned into the Elder's chamber minutes ago. The Elder held his chin, puzzled.
"What happened to your glasses?" asked the Elder.
"I had an... accident last night," Jiphoshraton uttered, "and they broke. Thank the Forerunners for contacts."
"Indeed... Now, observe your surroundings, and tell me to the best of your ability why I have summoned you."
Jiphoshraton glanced left, at the Elder's two personal guards. He glanced right, at the Ko-Korians. After a second of thought, he nodded his head before the Elder.
"I surmise that it relates to Hyael's proposal in some way," he began. "Earlier you called him in, I assume to explain your rejection of his proposal for how we should handle the weapon. He proceeded to give you a reason to summon his fellow Korian Kolaris, who I can only guess proceeded to give reason to summon me."
"Beyond that, I cannot informatively guess."
"Very well," replied the Elder. "I shall fill you in on the rest."
The High Elder sat upright in his office chair throne, appearing to look directly into Jiphoshraton's soul.
"Hyael's reason for me summoning Kolaris was that he was quote en quote, "The real brains behind the proposal," and that he accepted it as good coming from him. Obviously the idea that this human is a Demon Lord - new or old - that should be purged with our holiest of artifacts is absurdity, hence the rejection, and hence my puzzlement as to how Kolaris over here could have come up with such an absurd notion and base Hyael's proposal around it."
The High Elder clasped his hands. "But it all clicked when Kolaris admitted to... "borrowing" research that you yourself had done."
Of course, thought Jiphoshraton, giving an aside glare to Kolaris.
"What I want from you, Jeff, is an explanation. In full."
Jiphoshraton looked back up at the Elder and breathed deeply.
"It was on day seven of our endeavors," he began. "A bit before noon. We were digging through the Project MMG files we had at the time, trying to figure out what the Terrans did to make the weapon's head so impenetrable. Eryast reminded me of my idea from the day prior to try talking to the human - the idea that permanently engraved "Spitballin' Jeff" into my eardrums. That, combined with Aethab's research on what we found was an Activator jutting out of his heart, prompted me to do further digging on my own, while the rest of the team pursued another lead."
Jiphoshraton grew silent, closing his eyes in thought of what to say next.
"Go on," prompted the High Elder. "How did this lead you to what Kolaris says you provided him?"
"Yes, Jeff," urged Kolaris, "tell him just how you came upon all that research I relied upon. That I trusted would be reliable. Tell him h--"
"How I was out past curfew seeking answers that none of you trusted me to handle?" interrupted Jiphoshraton, glaring at Kolaris. "Is that what you want me to tell our High Elder, Kolaris?"
"Wh--" Kolaris stepped back, stunned. "I... I mean..."
The High Elder remained silent, giving an affirmative nod to his guards. One of them raised a tablet, appearing to review security footage while the other looked over at it.
"Or should I cut the bullshit and tell him how I made direct conversation with the weapon in that chamber? How I spoke to him? How he spoke to me? How I asked him questions and received his answers? Would that satisfy you?!"
Hyael perked up from an apparently dazed state. "You did what?"
Kolaris stood firm and proud. "It would, in fact!"
"Good! Good. But why stop there? The story's not over!"
"I think it is, actu--"
"Oh no, no it isn't, buddy!"
"Stop interrupting me, tunnel crawler!"
"Why, do you want to tell him how you caught me walking out of the weapon's chamber the second night I interrogated him?! How you extorted me of my research under threat of exposure?! How you planned to take Demon Lord's Credit for all the work I did - work that's cost me hours and hours of sleep, thanks in part to your demands that I report everything to you?!"
"How DARE--"
"While you're at it, why don't you tell him how you only caught me 'cause you broke curfew to try and do what I was doing?!"
"How DARE you accuse a Ko-Korian of taking Dem--"
Kolaris stopped, catching in his peripheral the raised, silencing hand of the High Elder. Jiphoshraton saw the same in his. The both of them, and Hyael, each bowed before the High Elder, with Kolaris asking him for forgiveness for that outburst. And Hyael asking for forgiveness for not doing more to keep Kolaris from making such an outburst in the office throne room.
"Remain, you three," ordered the High Elder, who turned his attention to the guards leaned closed to a tablet. After a minute that felt like an hour, the guard holding the tablet gave the High Elder an affirmative nod, with the other guard doing the same.
The High Elder pondered, then lowered his hand.
"Jeff," he stated plainly, "for your sake and your dwindling sanity, I will keep this brief. For my sake and my dwindling patience, pay attention."
Jiphoshraton lifted his head.
"Based on what I have heard," the Elder continued, "from Hyael, from Kolaris, from you, and from everyone else on the team, I have no choice but to deem you unfit to continue any work on this project in any capacity."
Jiphoshraton's jaw dropped.
"Your dedication is unmatched, but unfortunately misguided. It has led even your Ko-Korian colleague astray, and if the other two submitted proposals be lacking, this setback you've caused - inadvertently or otherwise - will be irreparable. We cannot afford to let so many variables stray us from the path, and we cannot afford to lose an otherwise valuable member of our society to the stress of an endeavor like this. You are, therefore, to return to your Kori tomorrow morning."
"...tomorrow??"
"It would be immediate if you weren't so forthright with what you did..."
"High Elder," said Kolaris, "if I may..."
"Not now," replied the Elder. "Jeff, you are to return to your quarters and prepare to leave first thing in the morning. Share nothing further with your colleagues, engage no further with the weapon, and think no further of this project. Am I clear?"
"...you are clear."
"Good. Jeff, Hyael, you are both dismissed."
Jiphoshraton and Hyael lightly bowed before exiting the office throne room. Kolaris glanced at them before sheepishly raising a hand.
"Stay, Kolaris," ordered the High Elder. "I have more to say to you."
--------------------------------------------------
The doors closed behind Jiphoshraton and Hyael, who each returned to the common area side by side. Hyael lightly held Jiphoshraton's shoulder as they walked.
"My holiest sympathies, Jeff," he whispered to him.
"Don't worry about it, Hyael," replied Jiphoshraton, hesitantly, while brushing the hand off his shoulder. "You aren't the one who broke curfew to make nice with a human thinking it'd get us somewhere."
"Fair..."
After a moment, Hyael stopped. Jiphoshraton stopped right after, turning around to face him.
"For what it's worth, though? I think you had the right idea."
Jiphoshraton glanced downward, sighing in thought. He looked back up at Hyael with a warm smile.
"Thank you," he replied, lamenting that by order of the High Elder he could not share any of his notes with Hyael. Rather, he would have if they did not both hear the greatly muffled but greatly booming voice of the High Elder's righteous fury echoing through to the common area and pulling their undivided attention toward the room they had just left.
"...and thank the Forerunners he reserved that voice for Kolaris."
"Yeah, I won't lie, I think Kolaris earned it."

The woman in red armor identified herself as a bounty hunter with a nod to the other's question about it.
...yep, that was a totaled thruster. Would take twice as much time as available to repair it, even with the most optimal tools. More important was the information from the other bounty hunter, which she stood up to receive and examine.
The man in the picture fit the same visual profile as her own target. And was a notorious assassin? And had the same name as h--
The woman let the other finish, shaking her hand when offered.
Tumblr media
"Call me Slayer," replied the woman. "Red Slayer in full."
"So do you have sight of exactly where he landed?" she asked as she opened the door to her own ship back up. "'cause I ended up here while chasing that exact same bastard. So if you can track him, I can fly us both straight to him to finish our business."
Tumblr media
"Question though... you're not bringing him in alive, are you?"
It's a little bit reassuring to have someone else here so that she's not alone. Her legs are still aching, but Ellen reaches out her hand to take Gate's, and forces herself to stand up with a harsh grunt.
Ellen wobbles a bit out of balance, but thanks to her spectral tail she's able to stay upright. She places her hands on her lower back and stretches, and her back cracks with a loud popping sound. Her tail wags once, and she turns towards Gates.
Tumblr media
"Thanks. Yeah, that guy got me pretty good. I take it you're a bounty hunter too?" Ellen approaches Gates with her device and shows her a picture of the criminal with a bounty on his head.
"This is the guy. A pretty notorious assassin that's wanted dead or alive. He shot me down but, I don't think he's getting very far." The Mactìre closes the device and holds it in her hand.
"I busted up his ship real good, and saw that he turned back to land somewhere else on this rock." Ellen looks towards her ship a little disheartened, but then back to Gates.
"You can call me Ellen. Thank you, by the way." She says, sticking out her hand for a shake.

From Man to Machine: A short write-up on the Gelidan Tech known as Armorite
Armorite is a malleable, defensive, and naturally colorless material and technology developed by Le-Kori's top military engineers based on research conducted by natives within the coldest regions of Ko-Kori. Made by combining rare earths native to the planet Gelida, Armorite embeds itself into organic material with which it makes physical contact, seamlessly filling any gaps in that organic material while leaving no visible indication of it doing so.
One cubic centimeter of Armorite is enough to cover two square meters of Gelidan skin or four square meters of a Gelidan's internals. Armorite naturally spreads to occupy space that is unoccupied by it, so those who cover themselves with it first apply it to the extremities and work inward to the torso.
While a Gelidan is wearing their Holy Activator™, if they have any embedded Armorite on or in them, that Armorite will harden, expand, and form a protective layer of solid plating around where it is embedded, the color of which is based on the type of Holy Activator™ and the Gelidan wearing it at the time. The appearance of activated Armorite is such that those who see it for the first time often mistake it for being some type of cybernetic fitting or bodily modification. The properties of the Armorite, when combined with Holy Activator™ energies, protect its wearer from the unforgiving elements of outer space. Any damage done to the Armorite in this state is damage done only to that Armorite, and any material detached from it returns to its inert form, retaining any color granted unto it by the Holy Activator™.
Activated Armorite grants a similar and arguably more powerful protection for its wearer when a small amount of it is applied to the heart. With 0.1 cubic centimeters applied to it, a Gelidan's heart will spread the Armorite all across that Gelidan's circulatory system, allowing it to affect (and, when activated, protect) all internal tissue inside a Gelidan. The effects this has on the Gelidan include, but are not limited to: A perfect stabilization of the body's internal pressure and hydration levels, a steady supply of energy for when breathable air is lacking (with a suppression of the natural urge to breathe), and an amplification of the Gelidan's elemental prowess based on the embedded Armorite amount.
With the materials required to make it in relative scarcity, Armorite is reserved for Gelida's active military combatants and those willing to pay ten times retail for it to fund further research and resource excavation. Such funds are what have allowed for engineers in Onu-Kori to develop a tool to extract embedded Armorite - simply named Armorite Extractor - which tripled the speed of general Armorite research by allowing engineers to reuse existing Armorite material for testing purposes, whether the material be from retired Gelidan soldiers, research facilities where it was once thought lost forever, or elsewhere.
As of 1050AI, Ko-Korian engineers are studying the effects of Armorite on other organic and sapient species, with said studies spurred by Terran research obtained during the once secret Project Tame the Beast.
