controversial touhou take: as far as I am concerned hourai elixir should not be treated as distinct from the taoist ways of attaining immortality, especially since Chang'e does appear in some of the early compilations of taoist hagiographies, before it stopped being in the vogue to include figures which did not necessarily originate in taoism immortal seeking tradition, like her or the Yellow Emperor, in them. And, obviously, the very name of the elixir is derived from the mythical island of Taoist immortals. obviously something Eirin made is going to be more "scientific" and refined than whatever mercury elixir Miko chugged but there is gradation of methods and outcomes in irl sources dealing immortality pursuit too
