Earth and Venus are very similar planets, yet the average temperature of Venus is ~ 864 degrees Fahrenheit while Earth’s temperature is ~ 58 degrees. Both the proximity to the Sun and the level of Carbon Dioxide in the Atmosphere have a role to play. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Earth and Venus have very similar levels of CO2, yet most of Earth’s CO2 is dissolves in our oceans where it combines with minerals to form carbonate rocks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oceans are what differentiate Earth from Venus. Scientists speculate that a younger Venus may have had oceans, but as the Sun has generated more energy through nuclear fusion it's energy has increased. More and more water vapor entered Venus’s atmosphere, strengthening the greenhouse effect, causing the temperature to rise continuously. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Runaway greenhouse effect is the result of intensifying greenhouses gasses compounding upon each-other leading to a planet devoid of life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although it is incredibly unlikely anthropogenic carbon emissions will lead to a lifeless Earth.
