What gets me is that Arthur’s gesture is so delicate.

I know he wasn’t supposed to make any noise, but still. Arthur doesn’t press his hand on Merlin’s mouth, he just lays it there.

You can see that Arthur didn’t push his palm, and he also takes it off in the same gentle way, oh my god.

Arthur: Okay, so you're my servant now. It's not really that important of a position, just like, idk, make sure you bring me my breakfast on time

Merlin: I would die for you, I would kill for you, I'd give up my humanity and become a living weapon for you, I would sit by your grave for over a millennium, awaiting your return-

merlin au where everyone finds out merlin is a sorcerer and theyre all covering for him from arthur

except arthur already knows??? hes known like. pretty much the whole time. hes been waiting for merlin to tell him himself.

but the longer it goes on the more arthur wonders if its something hes doing? he and merlin are close, arthur considers merlin his closest friend, but maybe arthur has done something to dissuade merlin from trusting him? maybe merlin cant forgive arthur for being uthers son? because arthur has noticed the increasing amount of people covering for his manservant, hes aware everybody ELSE knows

a reminder that Arthur died never knowing the truth about Lancelot.

he died believing that Lancelot, one of his closest knights and friends, would betray him and kiss his wife

that one scene where merlin was going through arthur's drawers and when arthur woke up he panicked and said "i'm looking for woodworms" and arthur just gave him an unimpressed look through his sleepy eyes and asked with the softest voice, "...before breakfast?" the way he sounded so unguarded and so vulnerable in that moment. the way he trusts him with his life. do you even understand?? this is the guy that jumps out of his bed at the slightest noise and pulls out his sword. he woke up to find merlin basically in his face and he was unfazed. he felt so safe and so comfortable around him it's actually making me sob

sometimes I think about Lancelot saying to Merlin "you're the bravest of us all and he doesn't even know". and then about Arthur saying to Merlin "I always thought you were the bravest man I ever met". so then I think about the fact that Arthur didn't even need to know about Merlin's magic to know how brave he is. and i cry a little.
