I'm Here | Oikawa T.
Tumblr media
A/N: Hey guys! I'm back (hopefully for longer since classes are about to end). Anyways, this one's a bit shorter than usual. I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
"Yahoo! Knock, knock~ Sorry, practice finished later than usual!" Oikawa called out but was only greeted by darkness, "(n/n)-chan?"
The house was still, not a single noise was heard. Oikawa doubted that you would leave without texting him, it was practically tradition to crash at your place every after school. He looked around, stealing a loaf of bread before heading upstairs. Dim lights could be seen from under the closed door as Oikawa turned the knob, inviting himself in as usual.
"Hey, Iwa-chan told me that-- what are you doing typing, er writing, whatever it is you're doing in the dark?!" He bellowed, flicking the light switch on. A hiss escaped your lips as you momentarily closed your eyes to adjust to the lighting.
"Shut up, Tooru. I'm kind of busy at the moment so if you don't mind, I'd like to finish all of this tonight." His eyes glanced over at the stack of papers on your left as your right hand hovered on top of another, gripping on a pencil tightly. Your left hand was typing away as fast as it could.
"What's all these? Haven't you finished the assignment yesterday?"
"Well, yes but, this one's for the student council. I need to file a report and it needs to be passed at midnight." You then gestured towards the paper, a bit crumpled with the many times you wrote the wrong formula, "And this is for Monday's class presentation."
"And these?" He pointed towards the stack of papers.
"That's…" You blinked a couple of times before responding, "I think it's the ones from the council three days ago that I haven't checked yet. Anyways, I'll handle that after I'm done with this."
"How many hours of sleep did you even get?" He asked.
"What? I don't think my sleep schedule has anything to do with this, Tooru." You answered, not taking your eyes off of your work.
"Just tell me." Oikawa insisted, sitting on your bed as he stared at you.
"Fine. Around two or so? I'll give it a three since I've been running on coffee since I woke up." His brows furrowed, worry etched on his face if only you took the time to look at him.
"That's not good, (n/n)-chan. Come on, I'll finish that." You shook your head, still not lifting your gaze away.
"No way, you had practice just minutes ago! I'm perfectly capable of finishing these within the day if you just so let me. Now shush-- hey!"
"I mean it, (y/n)." You huffed as you glared at him, "You need your sleep. I'll wake you up before dinner."
"What? No! I can't, Tooru!" You protested, standing up from your seat as you felt a slight pain from your head. You shook it off as nothing, "Tachibana-sensei's breathing down my neck saying she'd be the reason why I wouldn't be graduating this year."
"You still have a day to go before classes start again on Monday. You don't need to rush everything today--"
"Haven't you been listening? The report is due tonight. These," You gestured towards the stack of papers, "Might as well be due at the same time. And after this one, I've also got to revise my notes. I'm falling behind, Tooru and I don't want to hear anything from my mother once I move back."
"You won't (y/n), trust me. You're the smartest girl I know in school and probably the busiest one. I'm sure she'd be proud of you--"
"You see, that's not enough. I need to get my grades up, a bit higher than now." You countered. You retorted, huffing in annoyance at how the setter wouldn’t leave you all alone.
"You don't need to. What you need is to calm down a bit. You know that--"
"Will you stop it, Tooru!? You just don't get it, do you?! My parents thought that I would get into Shiratorizawa and what did I do? Fail the exam!" You bellowed, standing up from your seat as the male stepped back a bit. You stood up, voice raised as Oikawa stepped back, "My mom wanted me to at least be at the top during my first and second year, to at least in her words, redeem myself. But I failed on that too. Now, you're telling me to calm down? To take a break? Well, I can't. I've got my family's voices screaming at me saying I should do better! Do you know how--"
"You're crying, (y/n)..." Oikawa whispered as he placed a hand on your cheek, his thumb wiping away the tears. You lightly pushed him back, rubbing your way with your sleeves. He pointed out. A hand lay on your cheek as his thumb wiped away a tear, you pushed him away after, wiping it away with your hands.
"S-shut up. I'm not crying. Just… leave me alone for today, Tooru. I'm really busy and I can't afford to let all of my hard work turn to dust."
"I'll help you."
"For the last time, I--" He cut you off.
"Just let me help!" He was already frustrated seeing the girl he adored so much struggling with her life.
He knew of her problem with her parents and most importantly, he knew the conflict she had with herself. He knew that feeling more than ever. And he didn't want her to feel the same way he did during that time.
And he was afraid that, while it might not cost her a knee, she might lose so much more if she continues. Perhaps, her eyesight or her health. Worst case, her life. And he wasn't going to let her get to that point.
"If Iwa-chan was here, he'd know what to do… but he isn't. And I don't want to disturb him too. I'm just trying my best to help you, because I understand, I understand you the most out of everyone," He walked closer, enveloping you in a hug as the two of you sat on the floor, "You just want to prove something but, you're all fed up about everything. You're trying your best but I guess, to others, that's not good enough."
Tears slowly dripped down from your face once again as you buried your head on his chest, gripping on his jacket, "Why can't you leave me alone, Tooru? I don't care if you get me… I just want to be left alone."
"I'm staying, (y/n) and that's final. I'm not going to let you carry that burden all by yourself anymore. I'm here, remember? I'll help you," Oikawa whispered in your ear as he caressed your back, "You're, besides Iwaizumi, the one I treasure the most. I care about you and I don't want you to suffer like this when I know that I could have tried and saved you from it."
"Why?" That one question made him silent for a while as you looked up at him.
"I… it's because…" He sighed, making you somewhat dread and anticipate the answer at the same time, "I love you, you know that? And while this might possibly be-- ah, who am I kidding? It's the worst time possible to tell you this, I don't think that I'll be able to get another chance like this."
"T-Tooru… I…" You started but went silent as he brought his hand up.
"Please hear me out?" He inhaled before opening his mouth again to speak, "I… I want to support you (y/n), the same way you and Iwaizumi did all these years, especially during the time when I overworked my knee. The two of you were always there. So, let me be there for you too."
"It's just not easy when you've been doing everything yourself for most of your life…" You gulped, avoiding his gaze as you clenched your fists tightly.
"I know. But, I really do love you. And I promise that you'll never regret choosing me unlike how I regret eyeing up girls when I knew that you were right in front of me the whole time and they'll never be you. They'll never be as hardworking, caring and overly kind as you. You're perfect and so much more. Because everything means nothing to me if I can have you to call as mine." Oikawa said, moving a strand of your hair away from your face.
"Even the nationals?" You asked, teasing him a bit.
"I… okay, maybe not the nationals. I still want to beat Ushiwaka and all. But that's besides the point," He shook his head, placing his chin on top of your head, "You're amazing and beautiful, even when you think you're not. And I'm really sorry for confessing at the worst time possible. But, believe me when I say that I love you."
"Why are you… confessing now?" Somehow, this question made him think. It's not like he hadn't practiced his answer in the mirror for a million times, making sure it was perfect to his ears. Not at all. But, given the situation, he'd have to abandon that script and start a new one.
"Well, it just pains me to see you doing the same things I did before, even though your academics and my career as a player are two different things, and I thought that if I manage to successfully tell you how I feel, I could somehow help you carry all of this. Because by that time, I would hopefully be your boyfriend." Oikawa spoke genuinely, moving one of his hands from her back to her head, stroking her hair.
"You don't need to be my boyfriend to help me, you know."
"I know that but you just make it so difficult, argh! Everytime I see you frustrated, I just wanna hug you and kiss you and then take over your work while you rest. But I can't do that as a friend! So… so..." Not that he thought about it, what he said sounded stupid, "Yeah, I know. It's a dumb excuse."
"You're an idiot." The third year laughed out loud.
"I know, Iwa tells me that all the time." You lightly hit his shoulder, hiding the smile that was threatening to show, "At least I made you smile right?"
"I guess you did, Tooru. I guess you did." He hummed in satisfaction before something else you couldn't quite figure out what was etched on his face.
"I'm not going to force you to answer my feelings right away, (y/n)-chan. I can wait." He stammered.
"Why wait when I feel the same way? I love you too, Tooru." He perked up suddenly, making you hide the massive blush on your face.
"Wait, really? You're not joking right? (y/n)?" The setter found you fast asleep, whether or not you were faking it, he wouldn't know. He only chuckled, kissing your head, "Alright… I'll let you get some rest. You deserve it."
He carried you over to your bed, tucking you in. His hand lingered on your cheek, a smile on his face as he whispered.
"Dream of me will you, (y/n)-chan?" Oikawa stood up straight, eyes darting towards your mess of a desk, "Now… which one did she say she needed by midnight?"
Tumblr media
Let me hold your hand and carry the same burden you hold. I'll always be here, even if you push me away.

Unmiss You I Iwaizumi H.
Tumblr media
A/N: So, I basically don’t know how it turned out like this... Not proud of this one though, kind of am? It’s honestly confusing. But hey, hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Two A.M. At least that was the time that was shown on his phone. He couldn't remember how long since then. Or how it happened. He just knew that he fucked up.
The device rang in his hand, answering quickly, not bothering to check the caller I.D., hoping that it was you, "yeah?"
"Aww, Iwa-chan! That was quick! Did you miss me that much?" He scoffed, throwing the phone on his bed, the call on speaker as he laid back down, his arm draped over his eyes.
"What do you want, Oikawa?" He asked without the usual insult to the setter's name.
"Are you… still thinking about her?" The caller said, careful in his words, "Besides, it's what? Almost three? You're usually not up this early."
"Why do you care?" He huffed as he thought about it. He never did stay up late or woke up early unless it was to give Oikawa the support he needed. But this time it was different, he knew that, and that was because he was waiting for you.
"Geez, of course, I care! You're my best friend! And it's obvious that you're miserable without her." Oikawa could hear shuffling on the other end.
"What do I do then? She won't answer my calls o-or reply back to my messages." Iwaizumi held out a pillow, throwing it across the room in frustration, "Hell, I can't even get a glimpse of her without those crows stopping me!!"
"Maybe… She wants to move on?" It was silent for a few moments as he debated in his mind. Was she really?
"... I hope not. Because wouldn't it be unfair if… she gets to forget everything when all I want is to get her back?" He gripped onto his dark hair, tears threatening to spill, his firm look shattering to pieces, "She's all that I think about after that game. She's in my dreams, within my vision… I could even hear her at times but…"
"But what?" A heavy sigh left Iwaizumi's lips as he succumbed to his thoughts.
"You're right… Maybe, she doesn't want me back. I can't just rewind time to make it right. I can't go back to before I fell for her, to stop myself from meeting her and undo everything because I know that I'll just end up liking her. Loving her." It wasn't like him to act like this.
He was stubborn. He wouldn't stop at anything like a breakup. Instead, he'd do anything to get you back. But, with how he was right now, he doubts that he'd be able to. That's just what was running inside his head. Full of doubt and regret.
"It would have been easier that way…" Oikawa comments, giving out a sigh as well.
"Yeah, no shit. But like you said, maybe she wants to move on. And I just have to live with the fact that you can't easily unmiss a person you so badly miss." Iwaizumi let out a growl of annoyance, hearing noises from the other side of the screen,  "Oi Kusokawa, are you still listening!?!"
"Get up. Out of bed. I'll pick you up in thirty minutes." He had to blink a couple of times, trying to register the words of his friend.
"What do you mean you'll pick me up!? Oi, don't come over or I'll kick your ass!"
"Just do it, will you Hajime?" Iwaizumi mumbles incoherent words to himself, debating whether or not he should. In the end, he gives in.
"Whatever."
Forcing himself out of his bed, he dressed with what he thought was okay looking. A long sleeve grey shirt and ripped jeans, not bothering to look good for something Oikawa had planned for him. It was useless, he thought. A distraction was useless. A knock came as he opened it, the setter eyed his friend from top to bottom.
"You look like shit." Oikawa said as he went in, hands in his pockets.
"Yeah, thanks sherlock." He rolled his eyes, closing the door.
"What's with the outfit? Come on, I'll get you something else." The setter darted towards his room, opening the closet for something the dark-haired male to wear.
"Why are you here, Oikawa? I'm assuming you aren't here just to take my mind off of her." Iwaizumi questioned, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Actually, I asked (y/n) if she could just hear you out. She'll be meeting us at the park." Oikawa admitted, already preparing for the worse.
"YOU DID WHAT!? YOU IDIOT! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?" Hands wrapped around the collar of Oikawa's shirt, face dangerously close and seething with rage.
"Because you're both hurting! See for yourself!" He got out his phone, scrolling through the messages he and two of Karasuno's members had been exchanging, "Both Tobio-chan and that Small Fry has been sending me pictures of her during their practice and she's trying her best to cope, struggling just the same as you."
"Shut up Assikawa!! (y/n)... She doesn't want me back. If she did, we would have fixed our relationship by now." "I lost her because I messed up. And--" Oikawa threw a pair of jeans with an oversized dark blue denim jacket and a grey hoodie.
"Here. Wear this." It was also the same one he wore when they watched the game between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa, "That's what you wore on your first date, right?"
"I… yeah."
"Good. I'm sure she'd like it if you wore that instead. I'll give you ten minutes to freshen up." He left Iwaizumi to get ready, closing the door behind him, "Or at least, as much as you possibly can. Geez, I can't believe you're an emotional wreck!"
Was it okay? Was it okay to see you? Did you hate him? Or did you still care? Was there still a chance for the two of you to get back together? More questions than answers and honestly, he only wanted to know if you'd take him back again.
"Hey, are you really sure she'll be there?" He got out of his room, wearing the clothes Oikawa handed him.
"I'm sure but…" Looking at him up and down again, a smile on his lips. His usual cheerful and outwardly carefree expression was on his face, "Look at my Iwa-chan, all grown up and ready to get his girl back!"
"Shut up! This was your idea!"
"Huh? Does that mean you don't really plan on fixing all of this? Are you giving up?" Iwaizumi choked on nothing, that wasn't his intention. He wasn't giving up. He just didn't know how to.
"That's not…" He was struggling to get his words out.
"Just kidding, Iwa-chan~!" Oikawa received a hit behind the head, one of the usual violent punishments he would get from his best friend, "Gah! What'd you hit me for?!"
"Shut up!"
"Is your vocabulary only limited to that?"
"Shut up!"
The walk towards the meeting place was quiet. He was uneasy. What were you even expecting from him? A sorry? To beg for forgiveness? A hug perhaps? Because he'd be ready to give you anything and everything. Shit, he should have brought that scarf you made for him.
"Huh? She isn't here yet?" Oikawa looked around but you were nowhere to be found.
"I knew it. She hates me." The dark haired male crashed down on a nearby bench.
"Now, don't go all psychic on me Iwaizumi. I was only late." Standing up quickly as if he didn't drown in his sorrows sitting on that wooden seat.
"(y/n)!" The setter greeted, tackling you into a hug.
"Sorry Tooru, did I make you wait?" You asked, pulling away from his hold.
"Nope! We just got here. I had to make sure Iwa got all dressed up instead of coming here only in sweatpants. Or those nasty jeans I saw him wear when I got there." He shuddered when he felt Iwaizumi's glare hitting his back as he raised both of his hands, making his way to the sides, "Well, I'll be way over there before Iwa-chan hits me again!"
"So…" The both of you start, the male clearing his throat when you didn't open your mouth to speak.
"Uh, you go first." He gestured towards you as you shook your head.
"Tooru asked me to listen. Now, talk. I still have to help Kiyoko and Hitoka in handling the boys." Iwaizumi nodded, realizing what little time he had to explain.
"Right." He began, rubbing the back of his head, "Oikawa told me everything… that happened that day.
• • •
You have been meeting up with Oikawa for the past few days now. You planned on surprising him on your third anniversary and with his best friend's help, you knew he'd like it, especially if he and his team win against Shiratorizawa. Well, you want your team to win too, but can't choose which side you'd support so, you decided that whoever wins would avenge the other.
Aoba Johsai lost.
His team lost and you stood there at the balcony crying your tears out, both in frustration and happiness. The latter because of your team and the former for the loss. You excused yourself, looking for any of the third years in the team. And you happen to stumble upon Oikawa.
"Tooru!" You shouted, running towards the setter.
"(y/n)? Shouldn't you be with your team?" He asked, looking around for the crows. Or at least, his little rival other than Ushijima Wakatoshi.
"They'll understand why I left. But most importantly, how are the two of you? How's Hajime?" It was your turn to look for your boyfriend.
"I'm… not sure. Iwa-chan's probably with Mattsun and Makki. The others should be together." You nodded, grasping both of his hands in yours.
"I'm sorry for what happened, you were all really great! I promise we'll beat up Ushiwaka's ass for you two!" You declared, earning a chuckle from him.
"It's fine, (y/n)-chan." Oikawa ruffled your hair once you released his hands before remembering something, "Hey, why don't you give your present to him, I'm sure he'd like it especially when you've been at it for weeks. Isn't it your anniversary today? It'll help him a lot." You hugged the man in front of you, appreciating the help and support he has given you.
"I hope so. Ah well, thanks again for the help Tooru, I really appreciate it. I'm happy that Hajime has a friend like--" You were then cut off by a shout, your name echoing throughout the hall.
"(y/n)!!"
"Hajime! Great timing! I've got something--” You rushed towards him and was about to give him a hug when the look on his face made you stop.
“No. You don’t have to. I can see it perfectly clear.” Iwaizumi said as your brows furrowed.
“What do you mean?” You asked, glancing at the other two third-years behind him who only shrugged.
“What do I mean?! I should have known that you liked Oikawa from the start! We lost the game and the first person you went to find was him!? Unbelievable (y/n), unbelievable!” He bellowed, glaring at the two of you. His eyes were clouded with grief from losing and seeing you with his best friend triggered something he didn't want inside of him.
“W-what? That’s not true. Look, I just managed to bump into him and--” He cut you off again, his hands clenched tightly.
"Yeah okay, blame it on that!"
“Hey Iwaizumi, I think you should calm down a bit.” Hanamaki joined in, placing a hand on the shoulder of their vice-captain.
“Yeah, they were just talking. (y/n) was probably comforting him and asking for you.” Matsukawa added, getting ready to help his best friend if Iwaizumi ever decides to punch away his anger.
“Bullshit! I know what I saw! How do you explain those past few days huh?! I wanted to ask you out before the Interhigh and it so happened that I saw the two of you together. I ignored it because I trusted you!” He held back, not to get him and his team kicked out and bring shame to the school in his final year. Though it was painful, he knew he needed to get rid of it verbally, "If you wanted him then you should have said so from the start! I would have understood. So, I'm letting you go. That's what you want right? To be free from me?!"
"H-hey now, you don't mean that right? Why don't we take a seat a-and we'll talk this out, yeah?" You offered, walking towards him cautiously.
"Talk? You still want to talk?!! I'm done (y/n), okay!? Just leave me alone! I never want to see you ever again!" He lashes out, his emotions controlling every bit of his sanity.
“Idiot! You’re a total idiot!!” You screamed at him, closing your eyes in an attempt to stop the tears from falling. You don't want to let him see how weak he's making you, not in a situation like this.
“How did I become--!!”
“I asked Tooru to help me think up an idea for the gift I wanted to give you for our anniversary. He’s your best friend so I thought it was okay and that he’d be able to keep a secret. But surprise, surprise, you don’t like that kind of thing. You don’t need to be jealous of someone I don’t have feelings for! But hey, I guess you don’t trust me like you say you do!” Shuffling through your bag, you pushed an Aegean hued scarf with Olive colored horizontal lines near the fringe, “Here, take it. Burn it for all I care. We’re done.”
'Did she..? No wait, don't move. I'm sorry..' He thought, he couldn't voice the words out and even if he did, the damage was already done, 'Why can't I…? (y/n) please, let's talk…'
"Goodbye, Haji-- no, Iwaizumi-san…" Saying his last name added salt, tons of it, to the biggest wound ever inflicted on your heart. And on his too.
'I said don't go..! I can't reach you if you do. I can't feel myself, please don't go.' Again, the words wouldn't dare leave his mouth as he was also afraid that he'd say something wrong. He didn't dare blink, wanting to still see your figure within his vision, 'Let me see those hands again, I'll kiss it all better. Just don't leave me…'
"Oi, Oikawa!!" Suddenly he was on the floor with a bruised cheek and an angry setter in front of him, being held back by the other two they were with. He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"I get it that you're like that towards me but (y/n) didn't do anything wrong! She asked me for what you wanted and this is the thanks she gets!?" His grip on his collar was tight as he was still able to get close to him despite being held down by two of their friends, "You saw those bandages on her hands right? Well, she made that scarf all by herself just for you! She did that despite knowing nothing about knitting!"
"I…" He started but, as if you were still there, the words he so wanted to stay retreated back down his throat.
"What!? You what, Iwaizumi!!?" Oikawa snapped, almost on the brink of insanity like how Iwaizumi was before you left, "Got anymore bad things to say about her!?!"
"Zip it, will you?! I know that she didn't do anything wrong! It's just my fucked up and tired self making all the excuses!" He looked down, burying his face in his hands.
"Y-you could still run after her. I'm sure she'd--" One of them said, patting his back.
"She won't. Six years and never did she go against her word once she's made up her mind. It'll take a shit load of convincing but, I doubt she'd want me back." He gave out a huff, walking away until his best friend stopped him.
"Then you've just got to be stubborn like usual and try your best." Oikawa spoke, pumping the depressed Iwaizumi up.
"Huh? Ah, y-yeah…"
• • •
"How long has it been since you last slept?" You asked him, caressing his cheeks with your thumb as he leaned into your touch.
"What?" He blinked a couple of times before sighing, "I slept, maybe for just a few hours before waking up again because every time I close my eyes, that face you gave me that day keeps coming back to me and…"
"And?" He didn't want to tell you but, this would be the chance that he couldn't take hold of on that day.
"And there's this stupid scene that keeps playing in my dreams, during that fight we had, you left and when I saw you again, you were so happy with someone else and that broke me." He wanted to cry but all he could do was ball his fists with his brows furrowed in anger. Anger towards himself and his stupid decisions, "My last words to you that day was to leave me alone. That I never wanted to see you again. But, I was wrong. I still want you here by my side. I still want to see you. I still want to hear your voice every morning after I wake up and every night before I sleep just like before."
"Iwaizumi…" You started but your words just went in one ear and out the other as he continued.
"What I'm saying is, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I fucked up. That my jealousy got in between the two of us. It was dumb of me and Oikawa's supposed to be the childish one." He chuckled bitterly, mostly to himself. Now that he spoke his mind, it was silly of him to feel that way. To feel, was it inferiority? "I guess I still wasn't used to being the one getting the attention instead of him who's always surrounded by fangirls everywhere. Or believe in the idea of someone who would actually love me and not use me just to get to him."
"Iwaizumi, never in my life was I attracted to him. You know that right? I told you this once before." He held both of your hands, placing the other on his cheek. It was as if he was touch deprived and wanted to make up for the times he was away from you.
"I know. It's just that… letting you go that day was the hardest thing I've ever done. I couldn't even stop you, I just stayed there. I tried, believe me, I tried but I couldn't. I wanted to make you stay. But losing my last game in high school and all my emotions were over the place that it took a toll on me." Iwaizumi admitted. Sighing for who knows how many times now.
"It's okay. I understand." He stared at you, confusion written all over his face.
"No, you don't! I'm not blaming this on my loss. I'm blaming this on myself, for doubting you. You've been loving me so right despite studying in different schools and all I did was hurt you! Days after we broke up, I've been feeding myself these useless reasons not to see you, telling myself that you're mad at me and that you don't need me anymore. I'm sorry. Please hate me…" He was crying, he didn't care anymore if anyone saw him so… vulnerable. You wiped it all away, a smile on your lips.
"Hajime." You started. It was the first time in weeks since he last heard you say his name, "I love you."
"W-what?" These words were the least he expected to come out of your mouth but, he wasn't complaining either.
"You heard me. I love you." You repeated before you giggled, "Sure yeah, you were totally an ass for not listening to me but it doesn't change the fact that I still love you. And I also heard from Tooru that you haven't been like yourself since that day, my fault entirely. I should have thought about what your reaction would be.
"You know… I tried to come up with tons of reasons to just give up, so we both wouldn't have to hurt like this. It would have been easier for both of us. But, I can't. I don't want things to be easy between us. Everything you do makes me fall for you over and over, deeper than the last time. And hearing you say that you still love me, makes me realize that I should have tried even harder." Iwaizumi hugged you tightly, afraid that this was all a dream and was about to wake up. Or was he going soft just for you? Because it was obviously not because of Oikawa.
"So, what do you want to happen to us? What's your call?" You asked looking up at him.
“What’s this? Are you two okay now?” The childish devil on Iwaizumi's shoulder popped in between the two of you, “You are! That’s great! I’ll tell them right now--!”
“You, hanger bastard! I’ll beat you up--” He was about to give Oikawa a piece of his mind when he heard your voice echo in his ear.
“Hanger bastard? What’s with the new insult?” You laughed out loud, the wing spiker smiled, missing the sound, "Where'd you get that?"
"I'll tell you tomorrow, I'm sure Mattsun and Makki want to get a say in this too." He suggested, receiving a nod from you.
"Hey Iwa-chan, you guys don't have to diss me every time you get jealous!!" Iwaizumi scoffed, ignoring the setter.
"Anyways, I'll fetch and take you home after practice. We've got a lot of catching up to do." He offered, intertwining both of your fingers together, “We can even start now, I’ll walk you to Karasuno.”
"I'd like that, Hajime."

Clearing It Up
Tumblr media
A/N: I'm not so sure if I did well with this one. But!! I still hope you like it, anon! Also, this might have the lowest possible word count that I've made. By the way, really sorry for taking so long, classes have been draining me and.. yeah. Keep safe, everyone!
Tumblr media
Sawamura stood with sweaty hands as he looked at you, mouth agape. Oh, how did it even come to this?
• • •
It had been a couple of weeks ever since he asked for your best friend's help to ask you out. Of course, he made sure you wouldn't notice. But, what he didn't know was how perceptive you are, taking note of how your friend would always make up an excuse for you to head home alone or the sudden closeness with the captain. You thought that they probably wanted to keep their relationship a secret, so you shrugged them off and just decided to wait until your friend told you about it. Until they were ready.
But it didn't come. You were still left in the dark. Weeks turned into a month and you were starting to wonder if she even thought of telling you. It confused you, even until now.
"Where are you going, (f/n)? Aren't we supposed to head home together today?" You asked her just as she was about to head out of the room.
"Uh, I… I-- the girls and I have practice today. Yumi-chan told me during lunch. I'm really really sorry, (y/n)-chan. I promise we'll walk home tomorrow!" She shut her eyes, bowing down. You only chuckled at her, patting her on the head.
"It's fine, (f/n). But, you didn't have to lie to me if you're going to meet up with Sawamura-san." You said as you headed outside, stopping when you heard (f/n)'s voice.
"I-I'm not…"
"Yumi asked me if you changed your mind about joining them at the batting center." You turned your head over your shoulder, a smile on your lips, "Well, I should get going. Have fun."
The hallways were quiet and abandoned, not a student left inside their rooms to clean, it was as if everyone finished earlier than necessary. Like it was all staged. Only when you left the building were hushed voices from a distance could be heard, more likely from the clubs situated outside. As you turned right after passing the school entrance, you were greeted by a figure leaning on the bricked wall. His gaze was on the device in his hand before turning to you when he heard footsteps nearing his location.
"Oh? Sawamura-san." He perked up, body straight and eyes staring into your (e/c) ones.
"(y/n)-san." He spoke, hands sweating from nervousness. Today was the day he decided to tell you what he feels. He can't back out now like he did numerous times before because of the same nervousness he feels right now.
"If you're here for (f/n), she'll be down in a minute." You stated
"No, wait. A-actually, you're the one I was waiting for…"
"What?"
"It's, I mean… How should I put this… I-- can you give me the chance t-to ask you out? On a date?" It was quite a sight, seeing the captain of the boys' volleyball team stutter out the words he wanted to say. It wasn't in his character and not once did you see him the way he is now.
"Eh? But don't you like (f/n)? Why are you asking me?" That caught him by surprise. Everything he planned to say was immediately thrown out of the window.
"What? No, I---"
• • •
That's right. The reason why he was in this situation right now was because of him. You misunderstood his interactions with your friend and thought he liked her. If only he made it clear from the start and listened to his friends and fellow teammates' advice to not do anything stupid, then the both of you wouldn't be discussing this right now, with him trying to explain that it wasn't (f/n) living rent-free inside his heart and mind, and with you trying to understand the boy who was doing his best to find words to describe and explain everything. What was there to explain again?
'Don't mess this up, Sawamura! She already thinks that I like you. Not really, I'm not quite sure if that's what she's thinking. But, as I said, don't mess it up!' He remembered the text message he received just before you came into view.
"It's not her…" It was hushed, only within his hearing range. You thought that he just realized the feelings he has for your best friend as you didn't want to be in the middle of a war between confusing feelings.
"I'll head home now. Good luck, Sawamura-san." You began to walk away when a hand gripped your wrist. It wasn't tight enough to hurt but just right for you to stay.
"I s-said it's not her. You're the one I like, (y/n)-san!" You froze. Despite him stuttering over his sentence only once, the way he said it gave an impact on his words that made you listen when he began listing things about you, "You're nice and beautiful and overall amazing. I know that you furrow your brows when you're thinking too much or that you hum every time you think that you're alone. Everything about you caught my attention and so, here I am, telling you that it's not (f/n) that's on my mind. It's you."
"What about (f/n)? And those past weeks that you were together? Surely you weren't just toying with her, right?" You asked, not sure how to respond with the facts the dark-haired captain stated about you. Hell, you didn't even know you did anything when thinking.
"I asked her to help me in asking you out. I have liked you since last year and I didn't know how to approach you without stuttering or getting distracted by you since we aren't that close two begin with." Sawamura confessed, eyeing your expression for any negative reactions from revealing his plan, "So I asked (f/n)."
"I see…"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'I SEE'!!? GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE WILL YOU, (Y/N)?!" (f/n) popped her head from in between the metal gate, her hands on the bars. Her sudden appearance shocked the two of you, turning both of your heads towards her.
"(f-f/n)?"
"Aish! I messed up, didn't I? W-well, it was your fault that I decided to intervene and be the best wingman-- er, woman for my boy, Daichi!" She pushed her hand through the bars, finger pointed at you, "Who in their right mind says 'I see' to a confession huh!?"
"I didn't mean it like that." You pout and at that moment Sawamura was glad you weren't looking in his direction as he was a blushing mess the second his eyes glanced at you when you answered. But he spoke too soon when you glanced at him. Then came the fluttering feeling inside you that you tried so much to push away.
He cleared his throat after he attempted to calm down, "S-so (y/n), will you give this guy a chance?"
After a few seconds dwelling on it, you gave the third year a gentle smile. That fluttering feeling, you concluded, was maybe the same feeling he was feeling, "Alright, Sawamura-san. I'm looking forward to it."
"I won't let you down!" He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. A bright smile on his lips and eyes shimmering with excitement for the next day.
If I showed you the reasons why I fell for you, would you also fall for the reasons why you should fall for me?
Tumblr media
"So (y/n), what do girls like?" You choked on your food the moment he asked his question.
"W-what?" You answered after recovering. He shot you with a smile, opening his mouth as his gaze turned towards the sky.
The two of you were eating in front of the gym while the others present were practicing. You asked them to join the two of you but they declined.
"You know, the things girls like. I want to impress someone, kind of. I really like this girl and I thought that giving her stuff that girls like would be a nice way to build up the courage to actually confess." You blinked twice, humming in response. Closing your eyes as you leaned back, your arms as support, you replied with a thoughtful look.
"Well, not everyone likes the same things. For example, some girls would like make-up or parties. Some like playing basketball or being one with the guys. The others just like being alone reading a book while listening to music," He nodded, though you couldn't see so you continued, "It depends on what kind of girl you like. It's a big plus if you're already friends with her since I'm positive that friends share almost everything about them."
"Hmm… How about what you like? I'm pretty sure whatever she likes is the same as yours." You nod, giving him a thoughtful hum.
"Well, if you put it that way-- wait, are you saying that I'm generic?!" You point at him accusingly, feigning a hurtful look at what he was implying.
"Hey, I didn't say anything like that!" You both laugh it off, the other members finding your interactions amusing, "So c'mon, what do you like?"
"I guess I like bush clovers and hydrangeas. And I like to read sometimes, when homework doesn't get in the way," You laugh to yourself, shaking your head. Sugawara's gaze stayed on your figure, "Little kids are cute too, so I like them by default. Oh, and I like watching you play volleyball!"
"Even if I don't get to play?" He raised an eyebrow at you.
"You're a part of the team right? So whether or not you're playing, I'll still come and watch."
"Spoken like a true fan!" He laughed out loud, his voice being music to your ears, as cliché as that sounds.
"Now you're just teasing." You pout, crossing your arms.
"Well, thanks for that (y/n)! I'll head back to class first so I could think of a few things I need to get for her." He gave you a soft pat on your shoulder before stretching his body.
"Right. Good luck with her then! I'm sure whoever she is must be pretty lucky if the Sugawara Koushi's out to get her heart!" You encouraged him despite the growing pain in your heart.
Class dragged on slowly, the walk home was even slower than that. The reality that you gave your crush an advice that would surely impress the girl he likes into winning her heart haunted you. But that's what you get for keeping your feelings from him for six years. A sigh escaped your lips, wondering what'll change starting tomorrow morning.
• • •
It was quiet when you arrived at school the next day, heading inside the building half an hour early like usual. Opening your shoe locker, a note slipped out of it. Picking it up, you noticed the message was actually a passage from one of your favorite novels. A sad smile graced your lips, wishing you weren't just someone to be practiced upon.
“I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough.”
You pocketed the note, exchanging your outdoor shoes with your uwabaki. Once done, you walked off towards your empty classroom. Sliding the door open, your eyes caught sight of a single bush clover flower on your desk and on closer inspection, another note was attached around its stem.
"You are sunlight through a window, which I stand in, warmed. My darling."
It was starting to hurt you now. But you shrugged it off, having a whole day ahead of you. And you certainly didn't want to spend it by thinking of your feelings for him.
Lunch came as you buried your head beneath your arms. You have forgotten to pack your food before you left home, probably because you were dreading this day. You groaned before raising your head up when someone called for you.
"Hmm? Sorry, what is it?" Turning, it was a classmate of yours whom you often talked to.
"This guy from another class came by and asked me to give this to you." He passed you the plastic wrapped bread, placing it on your hands.
"Oh uh, thanks. Do you think you recognize the guy?" You asked, already having a name and face in mind.
"Yeah, I think it was--"
"Oi Sho, come on! We've got basketball practice, remember?!" Another classmate interrupted, standing just outside the door.
"Ah right, sorry (l/n). I gotta go." Shokichi waved goodbye, rushing off towards his teammate.
"It's fine!"
Looking down at the melon pan in your hand, you noticed another note attached to it, 'Is giving out snippets going to be his thing for the girl he likes?'
"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
You shake your head. Whatever his plan was, it was working. You just hoped that girl would feel the same thing you're feeling once Sugawara shows just how much he likes her.
"Geez Koushi… Don't play with my heart like this if you're just going to love someone else." You whispered to yourself, a sad smile gracing your lips.
• • •
The bell signalling the end of the day rang as you cleaned up your desk, stuffing it inside your bag neatly. That was when you noticed something slip out of one of your notebooks.
Picking it up, your eyes widened at the object in your hand. It was a photograph of you, one you didn't remember when it was taken. You were sitting on the grass by the park, back against a tree and attention on a book in your hand. The words 'At the back' caught your attention, written in a small recognizable penmanship.
"I wish I knew how to quit you. But in vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
You carefully placed it in between your notebooks, making sure it wasn't ruined. Even if he did this out of practice, you wanted to treasure it.
Leaving your classroom and walking down the hall, you passed by the gym. Voices called out to you, turning your head to be met by Nishinoya and Tanaka. Behind them were the other second years; Narita, Kinoshita and Ennoshita.
"Oh hey, you guys needed me for something?" You asked, stopping in front of them.
"(l/n)-san, will you please follow us inside?" Tanaka pleaded, hands clasped on yours as Nishinoya was on his knees, hugging your waist.
"Hey baldy, don't make it sound so weird!" Kinoshita scolded, arms crossed and brows furrowed.
"Honestly, we're just here to make sure you don't do anything stupid." Ennoshita said, pulling the two away from you by their collars.
"I… don't really have a say in this, huh?" You sighed, scratching the back of your head.
"Either way, they'll just drag you in." Narita commented.
"Alright, lead the way then!"
Entering the gym, you were met with the figure of Sugawara Koushi. The two second years pushed you closer to him before leaving the two of you all alone. You guessed that they were hiding behind the closed doors, with presumably the rest of the team.
"Koushi, what's going--" You began but was cut off when Sugawara suddenly exclaimed.
"I like you!" His eyes were shut as he bowed down, hands outstretched waiting for you to take them.
"Huh? Is this still part of your plan to confess?" You stated, gaze on anything but him, mostly due to you trying to calm your heart from exploding and the words you wanted to say from spilling, "Because if it is, I think Noya and Tanaka aren't the best choice in inviting her to talk."
"I guess. But it did get you to come, right?” You chuckled, shaking your head.
“Of course she does!” His smile returned, even larger than before.
“Suppose so. Though, I’m not quite sure if your plan would work on her…” Sugawara's smile turned upside down, worry painted all over his face.
“What do you mean--”
“Hey, don’t get me wrong. This is cute and really endearing but like I said, I’m not generic and she probably doesn’t like the same things as me.” You pointed out making Sugawara chuckle.
“S-so, you mean..”
“Fine, I believe you. Well then, good luck with her tomorrow, Koushi!” You turned to leave, waving your hand lazily.
“Wait, where are you going?” He questioned making you stop.
“Home?” You tilted your head to the side a bit, “Why? Do you still need me for practice?
“Practice?” He stood there confused, “I wasn’t using you for practice, (n/n)!”
“I like you, (y/n). The girl that I was talking about was you all along.” Sugawara laughed out loud, realizing what you were thinking of all day, “If I had known that you would have misunderstood everything I did as practice, I would have told you right from the start!”
“Now you’re just telling me that I’m stupid.” You huffed, a pout on your lips. He chuckled, walking towards you before ruffling your hair.
“My plan did work. I like you, I really do also, if you’re going to be stupid, at least you’re my stupid!” He hugged you, making sure you wouldn't be able to hit him after what he had said.
“Koushi! That’s insulting!” You struggled to free yourself.
“But, what do you say?” You stopped as you looked up at him, a blush settling on your cheeks.
“Koushi--”
“I like you too…” Just then, a message popped up from your phone. Trying to fish for the device while being engulfed in a hug, you noticed that it was from the guy in front of you.
“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.”
You felt soft lips on yours, just sitting there, unmoving. Shocked, you kissed back after a few seconds, eyes slowly closing as he pulled you closer, if that was even possible considering the little distance left between the two of you. The action only lasted for a minute when two second years decided to interrupt.
"WHOO!! SUGA-SAN, GET SOME!!!" Both of them shouted, before flinching when they felt their captain behind them.
"NOYA! TANAKA!" Daichi shouted, hands on each of their shoulders.
"I swear, these two…" You heard Sugawara whisper to himself, earning him a giggle from you. He smiled afterwards, kissing you on the forehead, holding on to you tightly.
You've been with me since the beginning. Now, I want to see the end with you, a ring on your finger and a lifetime ahead of us.
Tumblr media
Azumane Asahi has always been quite the scaredy-cat but when you enter the room, or at least within his field of vision, he runs away instantly. The two of you had always been friends but with the rapid beating of his hearts, the butterflies in his stomach and the blood rushing to his cheeks, he’s afraid he might say something wrong and make you hate him.
To say that you were liked was an understatement. You were as well known as Shimizu, confessions coming in from the left and right. And with every rejection, Asahi’s confidence drops, more so seeing as you two were friends. He wanted to tell you but the words wouldn’t come out of his tongue, stumbling and stuttering. So, he’s only option was to run, hide and escape the possible embarrassment.
• • •
"Asahi-san, you should stop and just tell her!!" Nishinoya bounced around the ace who had a sad look on his face.
"He's right Asahi. You can't hide forever, you know. If you do, then someone else would just snatch up her heart for himself." Sawamura commented, arms crossed as he closed his eyes.
"(l/n)-san also has been asking about you and she looks pretty upset." Shimizu joined in the conversation, informing the small group about what happened earlier today.
"S-she does?" Asahi's frown worsened, his eyes lingering at his feet.
"See? I told you this would happen." Sugawara crossed his arms as well, sighing in dismay. He had told the ace for the hundredth time this week that avoiding her would only be bad for him.
"What do I do now? She probably hates me. No, I c-can't have that!" Asahi panicked, hands clenched on either side of his head.
"Alright big guy, you've got us! So stop worrying already!!" Tanaka patted the giant, a grin on his lips as he thought of a plan, "How about this?"
The group of six huddled closely, earning strange looks from the rest of the team, "What’s going on?" They only shrugged in reply.
• • •
The next day, a smile was on your lips, humming a tune as you skipped through the semi-crowded hallways. Today was going to be a great day, you could already feel it. Suddenly, you bumped into something. Looking up, you realized it was Azumane Asahi. A nervous feeling washed over you as you backed away a bit.
“Asahi! H-hey! Long time no see!” How many weeks has it been since you last saw Asahi? He had been avoiding you for who knows what reasons and the reassurance his friends would give you wasn't helping at all. You wanted to confront him about this but seeing as you couldn't even catch a glimpse of him, you decided to just let him be until he was ready. You just wished you knew what you did wrong.
Apparently, today was that day, “(y/n), can we talk after school?” He rubbed the back of his neck, as equally nervous as you.
“Huh? Oh, uh, sure..?” You answered with uncertainty, “I’ll wait for you outside of class then?”
“Y-yeah. See you then?” You nodded as the two of you parted. You both talked. That's right. ‘Today’s going to be a great day.’
The clock ticked slowly but, you hadn’t noticed. Everything made you busy, the school works, group activities and a few confessions in between the ten minute breaks you had every after class. Finally, the bell rang, you packed your things inside of your bag, waiting outside of your class as planned. A few squeals could be heard from the floor below, you thought it must have been one of first years’ or second years’. But the voices grew louder, it honestly irritated you until a familiar voice called you.
“(n/n)!” Your eyes widened at the owner, breath caught in your throat.
“Kazu! What are you doing here?!” You walked up to him, slapping his arm playfully. A pout on your lips as he only chuckled.
“I told you I’d come and get you right?” He ruffled your hair to which you groaned in frustration.
“B-but won’t you get in trouble?” You asked, ignoring all the whispering that surrounded you two.
“Nah, I actually bumped into your vice principal and asked if I could just fetch you.” He replied before bending down a bit to match your height, “Also, did you notice his--”
“We don’t talk about that here!” You immediately shut his mouth with your hand, eyes gazing around to check if the official was around. A gave out a sigh of relief when you made sure that he wasn’t there before you stiffened when a familiar voice ringed in your ears. You didn’t know why but the tone itself was enough to almost break yours. Almost.
“(y-y/n)?” You and Kazuto turned your head to the side and saw Asahi with the second and third years behind him.
“Oh right! I’ll meet you down in a bit, I just need to talk to Asahi about something.” You averted your attention a bit, gesturing towards the tall male.
“Hmm? Alright, I understand!” He slightly nudged you, winking. You madly blushed at this, fully knowing what he was talking about.
“I-it’s not like that!” He gave the third year a look, muttering along the lines of ‘good luck’ or something else.
“Sorry about that, Asahi. He likes to mess with people a lot.” You nervously let out a laugh, noticing his teammates walked farther away from the two of you.
“It’s fine…” He muttered just enough for you to hear.
“So, what do you want to talk about?” His eyes wandered around, noting that only a few were left roaming the halls before calming his nerves.
“Ah… that’s…” It was silent after that, not quite sure how to start it off.
“Come on Asahi! We already talked about this!” One of them shouted before being muffled by another. You weren't sure who but you were certain that it was Tanaka who yelled.
“Support team?” You asked, a giggle escaping your lips.
“Kind of.” Asahi chuckled, already embarrassed by the situation he's in, “Anyways… Don’t be mad but the thing I wanted to say was sorry. For avoiding you during these past few weeks.”
“Oh that. You don’t have to apologize for that. I mean, I honestly thought that I did something wrong.” You uttered, clasping your hands behind your back.
“No, you actually did nothing. It was all me. I was just scared and decided to run away instead of facing it.” You furrowed at his words, questions running around your head. But the only ones you were able to ask was these.
“Scared? You don’t have to be when you’re with me. Why would I be mad about this?” He inhaled, closing his eyes, mentally preparing for your response.
“Because this is just half of the reason why I avoided you… I like you, (y/n). B-but, you’ve got a boyfriend… Maybe that’s why you keep rejecting their confessions-- Ah! It’s fine though, I understand and I--”
“You’re rambling…” You stated, noticeably seeing him freeze.
“Sorry.” He admitted, a sad smile on his face as he lowered his head, “But I’ve seen both of you for a few days now and I got to say you two look great together.”
“He’s not my boyfriend, Asahi.” You announced to him, staring into his dark brown eyes.
“Y-you’re-- He’s not? What about the holding hands then? O-or your interactions with one another? I’ve actually heard a lot about you two.”
“Then you should know that he’s my brother.” His eyes widened at the information. Maybe he could have asked you first before he avoided you.
“If that’s the c-case then… Can I ask you out? On a date?” He questioned, hoping you would say 'yes'.
“Sure!” You beamed, failing to hide the smile on your lips. Not like you wanted to hide it in the first place.
“Are you sure?” Asahi did a double take, surprised that his thoughts were answered, “You’re not afraid of what people will think?”
“I’m sure. So, tomorrow?” You nodded, setting up a date for the two of you.
“Y-yeah!” You began to walk away when he responded.
“Oh, and Asahi,” You stopped after taking the first few steps down, “I like you too. I don’t care what people think because I know that all of it isn’t true. Well, see you!”
“See you…” He whispered to himself, celebrating inside his head. He finally had the girl he liked for so long.
• • •
“So?” Your brother asked as soon as you entered the vehicle.
“Alright… Maybe it was like that.” Kazuto cried victoriously to himself, punching the air and accidently hitting the roof of his car. He paid no mind to it, he was happy after all.
“I knew it! Wait ‘till mom finds out about this!” You groaned loudly, thinking how your day started happily and ended with you annoyed.
Suddenly your thoughts were filled with images of Asahi and his confession, you blushed as Kazuto teased you. You didn't mind, you were looking forward to tomorrow and the days after that. And hopefully, the coming years after.
You make me become the best version of myself, someone who doesn’t care about his own insecurities and who doesn’t take others’ opinions to heart.

You took a deep breath, eyes closed as your brain takes in what today would mark as the last day of the Tokyo training camp. A hand brought you back to reality, turning around to face Sugawara. His brows furrowed for a while before smiling at you.
"Hey, you good?" He asked, bringing his hand down to his side.
"Huh? Oh yeah… Just thinking. Are we heading off now?" You answered, your mind quickly drifting off to who knows what, or rather, who.
"Are you thinking of him?" It was as if he could read your mind. Or was it because of how close you two are that he could easily tell what's bothering you?
"I, uh, guess you could say that. He somehow made his way into my life with all those ridiculous flirtings," Sugawara's brows furrowed once again, thoughts running around his head like a tornado, "I didn't fall for him because of that if that's what you were thinking."
"I w-wasn't!" You laughed at him teasingly, a blush on his face in embarrassment. Seems like he wasn't the only one who could read minds at the moment.
"Whatever you say~"
"But seriously though, what made you?" He placed his hands inside his pockets, looking up at the sky.
"What made me what?" You asked, tilting your head to the side.
"What made you fall for him? You said that you didn't fall for him because of his flirting. So, what did?" Of course, he was going to find something in that sentence of yours.
"I haven't fell for him! It's just, I'm somehow pulled towards him, you know? I don't really know the reason, that's why…" He chuckled at your response. Seeing you in so much denial was hilarious from his point of view.
"You don't have to explain to me but, can you listen to what I have to say first?"
"Oh uh, sure."
"... I have liked you for the longest time now. But somehow, I can't find it in myself to be jealous with every interaction that the two of you do. And after I talked with Daichi, I realized that what I feel for you was so much different from what I thought I felt. I was so happy and comfortable with you that I thought that that feeling was love. And it was, but not like that. I love you like how a brother would love his sibling," Sugawara confessed, his features calm as his brain thought of words he was sure you wouldn’t misinterpret, "Realizing that, I want to apologize if I've come off as overprotective during that talk we had or during the times I've been glaring at Kuroo. You mean so much to me and the team that the thought of you being sad would make us feel that way too. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that if you need anything, advice or whatnot, I... That sounds selfish, I meant we'll always be there for you. Also, if he hurts you, don't hesitate to tell us. We'll beat him up."
"Wow, Suga. I didn't know you had this side in you, especially with that whole heartwarming speech of yours," You giggled, teasing the gray-haired boy a bit to which he pouted as a response, "But, thank you. I appreciate it, especially the part where you beat him up! And I'm glad you told me this, I feel like there's this weight that's finally been lifted off of our shoulders."
"I know! I can't tell if it's the fact that we’re this close now or, I don’t know. It feels weird yet good!” You both laughed out loud.
"So, can I call you Koushi then? Can't call my brother by his last name right?" You nudged him with your elbow, a grin on your lips.
"Now, you're just teasing me."
"(y/n), hey!!" The two of you turned around to see Kuroo, being waved off by his teammates, receiving quiet wishes of success, ‘good luck’ being the most picked up word.
"Kuroo-san." You spoke first, both you and Sugawara nodding towards the bed-headed captain.
"Oh? Did I interrupt something? Mine can wait--" He was nervous, the gray-haired setter noticed. A smirk crawled its way to his face.
"No, no. We just finished talking, don't mind me. (n/n), I'll see you back on the bus. I'll tell Daichi what's holding you up and try to stop those two from getting into any more trouble." He ran off, leaving you alone with Kuroo. You were confused but let it slide, grabbing the chance to talk to the middle blocker.
"Uh, thanks Koushi!” You called out towards his fading figure.
Silence passed by you two, waiting for the other to speak. Opening and closing them, over and over until one of you had had enough of the awkward silence.
“So…” But in this case, you both broke it. Looking at each other as laughter filled the silent air once again, this time yours and Kuroo’s voice filling it.
“Alright, you go first, kitten.” He said, scratching the back of his head.
“One, please stop calling me by that nickname, Kuroo-san. It isn't appropriate seeing as I'm a crow." You quirk a brow, seeing Kuroo smirk at your words.
“You may be a crow but you're my kitten. Only you are allowed to be called that. And I'm the only one allowed to say that." A tug on your lips as a small smile showed itself.
"A-also, here…" You brought out a small piece of paper, numbers scribbled on it. His hand grabbed a hold of it, scanning the torn sheet.
"Oh? Is this what I think this is?" He pocketed your number, a mental celebration happening inside his head.
"If we're going to be long-distance friends, we might as well exchange contacts, right?" You informed him, cringing at the way you formally said it. You shook your head before gesturing towards him, "Your turn."
"I really had fun hanging out with you, (y/n). Besides the fact that your friend keeps glaring up at me." He cleared his throat, his hand clenched inside his pocket. He was preparing for the worst despite the amount of support and reassurance his team gave him.
"I'm so sorry about that. He's just a bit overprotective." You apologized on behalf of you and Sugawara.
"It's fine. At least I know now who to go to just in case." You blinked a few times, the confusion being the only consistent thing today.
"Huh? Just in case for what?"
"I… Can I try something?"
"I don't see why not." His hands begin to sweat, rubbing it on his clothes.
"You must be the acid to my litmus paper because every time I meet you I turn bright red." A pickup line? That was why he wanted to try with you?
"W-what was that?!" You didn't expect him to use chemistry to woo you? He was truly… Different.
"Scientists have recently discovered a rare new element called Beautium. It looks like you are made of it," You blushed heavily, still not used to the compliments given by the captain, "Even the Kelvin scale could not possibly measure how hot I think you are."
By now both of your teams were cringing over his lame flirting. It was entertaining, seeing how he connects every meeting the both of you had in every line. Though, it was weird for them seeing it all play out like this.
"When I first saw you, I was so strongly attracted to you, scientists will have to discover a fifth fundamental force. And the way you make my zygomaticus muscles contract, make me fall for you even more, even if there was no gravity left on earth." Of course, you noticed the teams' presence and were internally laughing and wondering whether they got it or not.
"Then maybe you should smile more. It suits you!" You humored him since you were a chemistry nerd yourself, and you also excelled in a few more subjects considering you are placed in one of the advanced classes.
"And ever since you caught my eye during that practice match in Miyagi, let's just say that the direction fields of my heart all point to you."
"KUROO, WE GET IT! YOU LIKE CHEMISTRY SO, STOP WITH THE PICK-UP LINES AND JUST TELL HER!!" Yaku interrupted Kuroo's little streak, being held down by the second year's.
"SHUT UP YAKKUN! I'M TRYING HERE!!" You sweatdropped as he shouted back, chuckling at Kenma who recorded his pick-up line confession. You made a mental note to ask him for it to tease their captain.
"You know, Kuroo-san… I'm no scientist but I want to discover more of this bond we have. I don't know how long but, what I do know is if you'll be there to assist, I'll get to finish my work earlier than expected." He returned his attention to you, eyes wide and a smirk on his lips.
"Then I'd be glad to assist you with your work. Your lab or mine?" You playfully flicked his forehead, having tiptoed your way because of the height difference.
"Please don't push it, Kuroo-san."  He rubbed the spot, rolling your eyes knowing it didn't hurt him at all.
"Alright, alright. If we're going to be working together, I'd appreciate it if you're going to call me Tetsurou from now on." Arms crossed, he hummed at the condition he set. It didn't matter what you call him, really, he'd still agree to it especially now that he knows he's got a shot with you.
"As long as you lay down on my nickname, then we're good." But, you entertained him. That was one of the reasons why he fell for you, it wasn't like how others usually respond to his flirting even if you blushed from time to time. It was like you were immune to it.
"Nah, not happening." Kuroo laughed.
"At least I tried."
"So, see you whenever? I'll text you when I get back home." You nodded before a thought came to mind.
"Yeah. Uh, see you, T-Tetsurou." On your toes, you kissed his cheek, running off towards your team. He just stood there, frozen for a few seconds before his cheeks and his ears erupted in the same color as his jacket.
"(Y/N)!! NOT FAIR!" He was annoyed that you didn't let him get back at you.
Returning to your team, their eyes glanced at you with a teasing gleam. You dismissed it, sitting down on your usual seat.
"Sounds like I got worried over a chemistry nerd." You rolled your eyes, punching his side lightly. You were happy that he was finally supporting this and not glaring up at the captain every chance he got.
"Sounds like you guys are getting nosier."
"It looked like one of those romantic scenes in the movies! I m-mean, sorry to pry senpai!" Hitoka commented before waving her hands, nervousness settling inside of her once again.
"It's okay, no harm--" You replied but was cut off by the chime on your phone. Sugawara was beside you, peeking on your side to get a view.
He began to tease. At this point, you knew you weren't going to escape it, "Your boyfriend?"
"S-shut up, Koushi! He's not my boyfriend!"
"What did he say?" He asked as you didn't mind him looking over your shoulder.

The smile on your lips never left, laughing to yourself as your team teased you endlessly until they tired themselves out. Perhaps it was a risk worth taking, after all, you can't move forward if all you do is be careful. As you gazed outside the window, you wondered how your days would change not that the bed-headed captain was now a part of your life.
'The chemical formula of love? I wouldn't dare tell Koushi about this because I'm sure as hell he wouldn't stop teasing but…' She thought, a light blush on her face as the setting sun's rays landed on her, 'I guess I lying won't get me anywhere.'
"What're you thinking about?"
"A chemistry nerd."

One or The Other | Sugawara K. Ending
W A R N I N G !
This is the one of the endings. If you haven't read the main story, please..

Tumblr media
Filing inside the bus, you excused yourself for a moment to Coach Ukai and Takeda-sensei, as well as Daichi, wanting to talk to the bed-headed captain. Finding your way towards the team of cats, you tense up at the gazes you received. He took notice of this and smiled at you.
"Alright team, go on ahead, I'll catch up." Kuroo said, pushing a teammate who was playing on his portable inside the bus.
"You're going to tell her?" It was hushed but you managed to pick it up. You hoped it wasn't what you thought it was.
He didn't answer as you waited until everyone was out of hearing range, "Uh… hey?"
He chuckled at this, ruffling your hair, "So, what do you wanna talk about?"
"I want to thank you and your whole team, especially Coach Nekomata for inviting Karasuno to this training camp," You bowed, a smile plastered on your lips.
"It's fine. Besides, I'm looking forward to the battle of the garbage dump at the nationals, so make sure you guys win." You both shared a hearty laugh, Kuroo stopping first as he noticed something in the distance, chuckling awkwardly, "Man, that setter of yours surely knows where you're at."
"He's glaring up at you again?" You were about to turn around when he stopped you.
"Hey now, don't turn around. I think he doesn't want us to notice him just yet, so let's let him be," You nodded, still confused at the current situation. Kuroo seemed to pick it up from your facial expression, "I think I know that look he's giving us right now and I'm going to guess that it's jealousy."
"Sugawara? Jealousy? Now that's something you usually don't put together," You shook your head, looking at the captain. You could tell that he wasn't joking around like he usually does, making you clench your hands, another unknown feeling rushing inside of you, "No wait, r-really?"
"And if my assumption is right, I'm going to go for it and say that he likes you." Silence engulfed the two of you.
You cursed at yourself, choosing the wrong time to be at a loss for words. You haven't thought of Sugawara like that until now. You blushed as images of him flash inside of your mind, the unknown feeling fluttering around the spaces inside of your heart.
"Oh? You just realized this? That must be why Daichi asked for my help!" You did a double-take as he laughed out loud, that weird sound erupting from his mouth made you laugh as well.
Sugawara's brows furrowed, clicking his tongue in annoyance. He knew that by now, the bed-headed captain already took note of his presence. It wasn't like him at all to eavesdrop, not like he could hear anything from where he was at. But, hearing you laugh, probably because of what Kuroo said, made his mood drop drastically, a frown on his lips. Did he take his time because he was afraid? Yes. Did he think that he was too late? Maybe.
"S-so, Daichi asked you?" He nodded, wiping away a tear in his eye, the laughter dying down, "What for?"
"Seeing that you're quite the oblivious person yourself, I think he wants him to make a move. Well, I couldn't object since you're pretty cute," You felt your cheeks grew warm for the second time today at the compliment, "I mean, I'd ask you out if you didn't live in Miyagi and I don't think we'll last with the distance and stuff. So friends?"
"Y-yeah, sure! That's also what I wanted to talk to you about too. Damn, and I was really nervous talking to you about this. Don't wanna break a heart, you know?" He ruffled your hair once again, taking a step towards his team who was waiting inside the bus.
"I should go now. And I think you head off now before I die with all the glares your boyfriend's giving me." You slapped his shoulder playfully, giving him a pout.
"H-he's not my boyfriend…" It was muffled, gazing down at your shoes.
"Yet. Well, I'll text you later (y/n)!" You waved back, a hand on your pounding heart, threatening to leap out and run towards the person who stole your heart without you noticing. Yet.
"(n/n)!!" Turning around, Sugawara ran towards you, waving and a grin plastered on his face. Why did it take you so long to realize that his smile was just as bright as the sun?
"Hey, Suga! Sorry, did I make you guys worry? Daichi probably asked you to come and look for me, didn't he?" He scratched the back of his neck.
"Kind of. C'mon, it's going to be a long drive back home."
Walking back, he couldn't help but glance at you every minute or so. Sugawara saw the thoughtful look in your eyes as he grabbed your hand, "Huh?"
"Are you okay? Did he say something to you?"
"I'm fine. Just thinking, that's all. The spring interhigh's around the corner and, even though I'm not playing, I'm starting to get a little bit nervous." You told him, earning a smile.
"You got me worried for a second there! I thought he rejected you or something!" He was glad that Kuroo didn't hurt your feelings. At least, that's what he believes, that you have feelings for the captain. And he's fine with that. As long as you're happy, he's fine.
"Worried? Shouldn't you be more worried about the team? We've got the most penalties during this training camp!" He giggled, stopping the both of you from the walk back towards the team. His voice, you noticed, was silvery; clear, light and pleasant to hear. You could easily get lost in it, the same way you needed a map whenever you gaze into his eyes, "A-and rejected? Nothing like that happened, I mean, no one confessed or anything. I just thanked him for the opportunity his coach gave Karasuno, that's all."
It was silent for a while until Sugawara spoke. His voice was shaking a bit, clearing his throat, making sure it was clear.
"I guess I should tell you now before Daichi kills me for delaying for far too long… And to be honest, I can't hold back any longer..." Both his hands held yours, thumbs drawing circles. You could feel a faint blush forming on your cheeks.
"Oh? W-what is it?" You mentally curse yourself for stuttering as you look at him, trying your best to stay focused.
"Uh… This is really harder than I thought it would be…" His head lowered a bit, brows furrowed in thought. He was mumbling to himself, seeming to momentarily forget that you were in front of him, "Should I just say it? Or maybe explain why… But it'll take too long and he'll get mad for being late… How about--"
"Suga, are you okay? You do know that you can tell me whenever, right? Whatever this is about, I'm sure Daichi will understand if you tell me some other time--"
"W-what? No wait, (y/n), I.. He won't-- I mean, I-I L-LIKE YOU..!!" His eyes widened at his words, surprised that he finally confessed after all these years. Dread followed soon once he realized that it could end badly for the two of you, "Y-you don't have to say anything, really, especially since I've put you in an awkward spot, I think.. Ah, if you're uncomfortable about this, then please forget everything I said."
You try to stifle out a laugh, hand placed on your mouth. It was cute seeing this side of him, "Why should I forget everything when I like you too? I've just realized this if it weren't for Kuroo pointing it out. So, if you'd let me, I'd like to find out how you managed to steal my heart without me noticing."
"... (y/n), we've got all the time in the world, we don't need to rush. I'll wait." You pulled him to a hug, Sugawara freezing up for a moment before snaking his arms around your waist and burying his head in the crook of your neck.
A comfortable silence engulfed the two of you. Your scent filling the third year's nose, making him realize that everything that has happened was real, that he wasn't dreaming. And without thinking, he raised his head, his lips slowly approached yours. It was soft and light, a slight pressure as he kissed you, not wanting to make you any more uncomfortable by that one bold move he pulled off. You returned the gesture after recovering from a moment of shock. It surely felt like a dream. It lasted for a few moments before breaking apart, foreheads touching as your breathing mixed. Suddenly, a voice rang in both of your ears, breaking the silence, making the two of you jolt in surprise "OI, YOU TWO! EVERYONE'S ALREADY THERE WAITING!"
"Coming!" Sugawara replied, intertwining your hand in his, pulling you to where the team was.
Entering the bus, the second and third years had a teasing look on their faces. Sugawara sweatdropped, knowing he would be answering a ton of questions from his friends. But it was worth it, you were finally his, and he was happy. More than happy.
"Took you long enough." Daichi hit the boy at the back of his head, Sugawara nervously laughed.
"Y-yeah. I might have worried over nothing but hey, I did it. I told her and she said yes, sort of." His haze landed on you, talking with your fellow managers.
"Sort of?"
"Let's just say that I have to make sure that she acknowledges just how much I like her while I fall for her over again," He relaxed onto his seat as you turned around to look at him, a smile on your face. Returning the smile, he spoke mostly to himself, "Man, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world."
"It's because you are. (y/n)'s really something else, you better take care of her."
It took me three years to take my chance with you and I’ve been such a coward to make you wait this long. But I’m glad I did or else I’d be in pain, faking a smile, seeing you happy in someone else’s arms.
"I will."

One or The Other
Tumblr media
A/N: When I first saw this, I was like: "Gah! Can't choose! They're too precious!" So, I made two endings!! Hope you like it! And like the previous one, sorry for taking too long.
Tumblr media
The streets were dark, only illuminated by the lampposts that scattered. You were walking home alongside your fellow managers when a thought popped into your head, a question that lingered in your mind ever since you returned from Tokyo.
"Kiyoko, Hitoka?" You stated, eyes locked on the pavement in front of you.
"Hmm?" The third year manager beside you answered while the blonde first year looked at you curiously.
"H-hypothetically speaking… What do you do if someone confesses that they like you while there's this person who keeps telling you to avoid the other and you're not quite sure what to think or who to side with?"
"Hypothetically?"
"Well, not to you since there's Noya and Tanaka who're pretty much open with their feelings towards you." You pointed out, earning a nod from your junior.
"Oh! Is this about Nekoma's captain and Sugawara-san?" Hitoka asks as you slumped forward, a sigh escaping your lips.
"Was it that obvious?" They both nod, straightening up and fixing your hold on your bag, you repeated your question, "So, what do I do?"
"Well, what do you think (y/n), about the two of them individually?" Kiyoko answered with a question.
"Ah see, I've known Suga since that time he asked me to help you out and the team. I guess you could say that we've been close after that. He's really protective and caring so, I kinda get why he'd tell me to avoid the guy. And about the rooster…" You hummed, thinking of anything about the captain of the cats.
"R-rooster?" Hitoka tilted her head to the side, confused at the nickname.
"That bed hair of his, it sort of makes him look like one. It's funny and sort of… cute, in a way? No wait, that laugh of his was hilarious though! Also, he seems pretty laid-back too despite being captain. Daichi should learn a thing or two from him!" You chuckle, wiping off an imaginary tear in your eye as you remember the tokyo tower event, "But, like I said, I'm not sure who to side with."
"Well, it's still the first day. We're still going back for the training camp and more time for you to think. Just be careful, words are dangerous enough as it is, even more when feelings are involved," Kiyoko orated, both your and Hitoka's eyes shining in awe.
"K-Kiyoko… That was the most wisest advice I've ever heard in my entire life. And I'm in the same class as you!" You could feel your eyes begin to water, the words your friend had said already sunk within the depths of your heart, forever to be remembered.
"(y/n), please calm yourself down. We can't afford calling one of the guys at this hour to help you." You took offense and playfully hit her arm before the three of you erupted in laughter.
• • •
At Shinzen High, you noticed the captain of Nekoma glancing your way every now and then, talking to you whenever the both of you were available or during the times Sugawara was out of sight. The grey haired setter was glaring the life out of Kuroo every time, and you were confused. Did they do something to each other behind your back?
"Oi, Karasuno's manager-chan! Kitten hey!!" You heard the black haired captain call out, ushering you inside the gym. You took note that he was not alone, with him were two from Fukurodani, a teammate of his and Tsukishima Kei.
"Kuroo-san, you should already know my name at this point besides the fact that I keep telling you not to call me that nickname." You stated, greeting the others present.
"What? It's a cute nickname befitting a really cute manager!"
"At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Sugawara-san heard this." Tsukishima commented, the rest turning towards the door, waiting for a certain setter to appear, except for you.
"Well, what do you need Kuroo-san?" You asked, bringing everyone's attention away from the gym entrance.
"Would you believe me if I say it's you?" Raising an eyebrow, you earned an awkward laugh from the captain before clearing his throat, "Right. Uh, could you help us with practice? That is if you're not busy preparing with the other managers."
"I guess I could lend a hand, I'm on wash duty today anyways," You picked up a ball, bouncing it lightly, "So, what do I do?"
"We're working on blocks, Lev over there has to work on it while Four Eyes just needs a few pointers." You nodded and took a stance, preparing to toss.
"Ready?"
"Yeah. Oh wait! Lev!! Get your ass over here!!" Kuroo called for the first year lying on his back on the floor, who sprung to his feet at the mention of his name, running to Tsukishima's side of the court, "Okay, now we're ready.
It has been five days since you've agreed to help the little group with their practice and you took the opportunity to learn more about the captain. Despite being so casual, he was actually observant, noting everything his opponent does. Kuroo was also a provocative guy, something you only took note of when you asked the blonde first-year blocker what made him join their practice, having Daichi answer your question with a tale of the incident.
Honestly, your interactions with Kuroo were nice. He'd make a few compliments and small talk here and there and sometimes would act shy whenever he asks you for something. And during those times, a pair of eyes would linger in your direction, turning around, your grey haired friend would always be within your vision. It confused you, the feeling inside of you confused you and you hated it. So, instead of letting it be, you dragged Sugawara away from his group during their individual practices.
"Hey (n/n), something wrong?" He tilted his head slightly, his eyes scanning your expression.
"You tell me."
"What? What are you--"
"It's about Nekoma's captain, right? I'm aware that you don't want me hanging around him. Although, I just want to ask why?" You asked, noticing the way his gaze avoided you in an instant. Sugawara was silent for a minute or two, trying to find a better wording for his explanation, "Well..?"
"I just… didn't want you to.. I mean, he's here in Tokyo and you're in Miyagi. You don't even know him that well. I don't want to see you cry afterwards, when the two of you get together and break up! Can't I just worry for you?" You hadn't expected the third year to react the way he did. Yes, he was dubbed as the mother figure of the team but, that's just the way he cares for his juniors so why does hearing him say these words to you make you feel like there's more to it than just care, "I'm sorry if I'm acting like this. I really care about you, (y/n) so please understand, whatever you choose, I'll respect your decision."
He left you there, surprise etched on your face. You were conflicted, you knew he was right because that's what your mind kept telling you but then there's your heart, who genuinely wanted to know more before you decide.
• • •
That night, while everyone was asleep, you confided once again with your co-managers inside the darkened room, phones on, providing a bit of light.
"I'm really… I don't even know how to describe what I'm feeling right now after I pulled Suga aside to talk. And I'm desperate for an answer." You whisper yelled, making sure none of the others were to wake up.
"M-maybe you could describe it for us? The f-feeling I mean, it's okay if you don't want to!" After all the times you spent with the blonde first year, she was still nervous around you.
"No, no. I think it's best if I talk about it if I'm asking you guys for advice. So, um, where to start…" You thought of the past few days and your interactions with them, "Okay, I guess it started when Kuroo asked me to join them for practice, tossing when needed and handling the scoreboard during their two-on-two matches. In the morning, he'd come up to me from time to time and Suga would be glaring at our way. I thought that it was only because he was worried about me being around the captain. I mean, who knows what he's thinking inside that head of his! I'm kind of  not surprised he's getting along with Tsukishima, not that he'd admit it."
"And then..?"
"And then the talk with Suga just a few minutes ago… Somehow, there's this lingering feeling that I should trust his words a-and limit my contact with the guy. I've known Sugawara for three years ever since that day, so it makes sense that he kind of gets what'll play out. Plus, he's also a guy. I mean, he's just looking out for me right?" You ramble a bit, a crease on your forehead, "I really want to get to know Kuroo, he's really cool and funny, surprisingly on my part. But, I trust Suga's suspicion, he's still technically a stranger. Besides…"
"Besides you're much more comfortable with Sugawara, right?" You nodded at Kiyoko's words, shifting on your futon, "I could take a guess and say you like him but you want to give Kuroo-san a chance."
"(y/n)-san like likes Sugawara-san?" The black haired girl hummed in response, adjusting the position of her glasses, "Is this true?"
"That… I don't know. Maybe I just like him 'cause we're close?" Perhaps you were just trying to make yourself believe that it is only because of that or maybe it's the truth. Kiyoko glanced down the first year before turning towards your figure.
"Well, this training camp will end soon and until then, you've still got a chance to sort things out. Giving someone false hope is a feeling that makes you feel an intense amount of guilt, because you played with their feelings the same way you thought they were playing with yours."
So, in a few more days, the choice to make is in your hands. On the last day, you were going to talk to him and tell him what you think. And you just hope it was the right choice to take the risk with.

Back Off! I Yaku M.
Tumblr media
A/N: Okay so, really sorry if it took way longer than I intended. I wasn't sure if I liked the flow when I wrote it so, I kept changing it. Anyways anon, I hope it was worth the wait and also it was what you hoped for!! Again, sorry!!!
And if this isn't what you hoped for, I could always change it or make another one so don't hesitate to message me!!
Tumblr media
It was only the first day at the Tokyo Training Camp and Yaku was starting to get pissed off by every little thing. Just as Karasuno arrived, Yamamoto was already on his knees as soon as he saw their managers, "The girls have multiplied…!!! Now there's a pretty one and a cute one!"
"Take a good look, Tora…" A bald player said, standing in front of the two females, "This is the sanctity of Karasuno."
"Kuh..! So bright..!"
"Yamamoto-san, coach is looking for you!" You said, walking over towards the mohawk headed player.
"That's right!" A squeak escaped your lips as Yamamoto pulled you close to him, arm around your shoulder, "We've got ourselves a female manager too!"
"Wahhh!! Beautiful! TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE, AT YOUR SERVICE!!!" He offered you his hand, taking it and shaking it gently.
"Oh, um… (l/n) (y/n), it's nice to meet you Tanaka-san." As you let go of his hand, he blushed madly, saying words you couldn't comprehend.
Yaku stared at your interaction with Karasuno's wing spiker, a scowl on his lips and arms crossed. He marched towards the two of you, a hand on Yamamoto’s collar and the other intertwined with yours, “Keep stalling and I’ll add a few things to your training. Everyone’s waiting inside already..!”
You stood besides Coach Nekomata, tuning everything out. You didn't quite understand what he was explaining anyways as you only have a little knowledge and experience regarding volleyball and being a manager, allowing you to grasp the basics. You had accepted the role after Kuroo pestered you about it non-stop and a go signal from your little boyfriend, not like you would say that to him face-to-face. You were after all, shorter than him.
Currently, you were tossing the ball for the players to spike with the Liberos on the receiving end. Lev jumped and hitted the ball, showing improvement unlike the first time you saw him, "Did you see that, (y/n)-san? That was great right?!"
"That was better than last time, Haiba-san. Keep at it and you'll become an ace in no time!" The first year hugged you tightly, not noticing the glare the third year libero sent his way.
"You Tin-headed Titan! Stop flirting with (y/n) and get back to practice!!" Yaku was now right beside you, pulling you away from the middle blocker's embrace.
"Oh Yaku-san, weren't you over there just now? How'd you get to this side so quickly?" Lev asked, looking down at his senior.
"What do you mean how?" You felt like you already knew the outcome but let them be as it was still entertaining to watch.
"I don't know. Maybe I just didn't notice since you were so short-- ack!" The light grey haired first year tumbled forward after getting kicked by Yaku from behind.
"Alright, alright, I think that's enough kicking exercises for you. We still need him in his very best condition." You patted him on the head, on your toes. You gave Yaku a smile and somehow, that reassured him a bit.
"I didn't even hit him that hard..!" He pouted before blushing when he heard you mutter the word 'cute'.
"I know. C'mon, let's continue practice."

Now back at Nekoma, you were hand-in-hand with Yaku, heading home. Though, you noticed that something was up. His hand clenched yours as he silently walked beside you and you were starting to get worried. It just wasn't like him.
"Yaku? Is something wrong?" You asked, glancing at him. He turned his head towards you, a smile on his lips. But you knew it was different.
"Yeah. Just tired, we did play a number of matches." He said, stretching a bit. Your hand now hung free as you rummaged your bag for an energy bar.
"Here. This should help you until you get home and cook up some real food before heading to bed. You need all the strength you need for training tomorrow," You said, handing him the convenience store bought food, "Also, don't stay up too late or sleep with your hair wet if you're planning on taking a bath."
"You're starting to sound just like me. But don't worry, I won't… Man, I don't even wanna know what I'd do without you nagging at me like this." Yaku teased, earning a soft hit on the head. Though, he acted as if it hurted more than it should.
"Hey! I'm just trying to make sure you take care of yourself too. You always seem to do that for the team so, you can't really complain," You reasoned, a blish covering your cheeks, "Besides, I really care about you, so much."
"Yeah, me too. Now, come one, it's getting pretty late, I don't even want to imagine the look Lev will give me once he gets there before me..!" He ruffled his hair in annoyance, "Worse if he picks on me again saying I was late because of my height."
"Don't be like that. Even if he does joke about it a lot, I'm sure his respect for you amounts just as much." You replied, rubbing circles on his hand.
"Thanks, (y/n). Now, I should really get you home. I could always stay at your place if your parents aren't home."
"Not a kid though, you worry too much!"

Time went by and before you knew it, the whole team was in Shinzen High. You didn't want to admit it but, you began to dread the week, not because it'd be another busy schedule for you and the other managers but because the attention you get from some of the other teams' members was enough to tire you out completely. Especially when Yaku knocks them down with a kick, making you apologize to both your and the other teams' coaches. To sum it up, an average of fifteen kicks per hour, including ones from Lev.
It was the fourth day and you have noticed the huge change in Yaku’s behavior. He was more serious during matches and he had chosen to ignore the guys who would walk up and interact with you, except for Lev of course. Even the managers noticed this and asked you about it. Nekoma was about to head back to court when Yaku called for you. You were both ecstatic and nervous at the same time. Ecstatic because it has been exactly two days since he last spoke to you and the latter was because you don’t know what your talk would be about.
“Y-Yaku, what… What is it?” You asked as soon as he was in front of you. His eyes refused to meet yours and you were starting to wonder what you did wrong.
“After this match… N-no, after the last match for today, wait for me at the hill behind the school.” You nod, letting him go back to his team.
Now all that’s left is to play the waiting game.

It was a clear night out, a bit cold as you clutched the jacket you brought closer to your body. Your ears managed to catch the soft scratching of feet against trimmed grass, turning around to see Yaku staring at you with a look you were unfamiliar with in his eyes. To him, at that moment where the wind blew your (h/l) (h/c) hair to the side and the moon highlighted your beauty, he knew he’d have to work hard and prove to you that you shouldn’t have any reason to let go. So should he.
“Sorry to make you wait…” He scratched the back of his head, nervousness starting to fill his body.
“It’s fine, I just arrived actually.” You replied when in reality, you have been waiting for ten minutes. You finished earlier than expected and without a clear meeting time, you decided it was for the best to wait for him and avoid a bunch of crazed idiots with equally crazy hormones. You returned to your previous position, eyes gazing up at the sky.
“So, what do you want to talk about?” You could feel Yaku slither his arms around your waist and place his head on your shoulder. You sucked in a breath before exhaling, missing the affection you two usually shared.
“I was thinking… Maybe you shouldn’t have been the team’s manager after all.” He confessed, making you turn your head. Your faces were close to one another, your lips centimeters away from his cheek.
“What? Why? Did I do something wrong? Did the coach say something?” You asked frantically, moving away from Yaku’s hold.
He tsked, clicking his tongue in annoyance, crossing his arms, “Well, if it wasn’t obvious, they were flirting with you and I hate it. Even Lev’s trying to take a shot at you when it’s already clear that you're already mine.”
“Aww, is Yaku getting jealous?” You teased, a small smile on your lips.
“So what if I am?! I just want them to leave you alone without me attacking them. Also, I’m worried that you’d choose one of them over me who’s always short-tempered and really insecure about his height. Hell, that libero from Karasuno’s shorter than me and he doesn’t give a damn!” He pulled his hair a bit, frustration written all over his face, “I can’t make them go away if you let them approach you like that. Even in this body, in this size, I want to protect you the same way I protect the ball from hitting our side. I’m saying this because I don’t to lose you and I--”
You blinked a couple of times before opening your mouth to speak, “You’re so cute, Yaku.”
“H-hey! I’m trying to voice out my feelings before I beat everyone up and this is your reply?!” His face boomed with color as he watched you laugh. He always did love the sound of your voice, whether it be a soft murmur or a loud cheer. You making him, or anyone, smile even in the most depressing occasion was always your forte.
“Sorry Yaku. I just can’t believe that I’ve been so lucky to be able to date such a talented, compassionate and intelligent guy like you. You trying your best to keep me from harms way just shows that you’re just as good as everyone else, better even. So what if you’re short, then let’s be short together! And even if one of us was way taller than the other, I’d still choose you. Besides, flirting will get them nowhere when I already have you!”
"Good. Because I'd choose you too. I love you (y/n)." Yaku said, eyes staring back at yours lovingly. Maybe he was just thinking too much, at least now he knows to never doubt your feelings for him.
"Love you too, Mo-ri-su-ke~" And then everything came to a standstill. Freezing up, his eyes were wide open and his mouth hung slightly. You giggled at the sight before stopping when you realized he was actually frozen on the spot, almost forgetting how to breathe, "E-eh? Yaku? Yaku?! Don't tell me that I broke you just by saying your name?!! Hey! Ahh..! What to do, what to do!! Maybe Kuroo knows something, I should--"
Before you could even take your second step forward, Yaku grabbed a hold of your wrist and pulled you close to him, engulfing you in a hug. His face was covered by the crook of your neck, mostly in an attempt to hide the embarrassed blush on his face, "A-and where do you think you're going?"
"Thank goodness you're okay." You sighed in relief, your left hand caressing the strands of his brown hair.
"Of course I am! Y-you just caught me off guard, that's all." He reasoned, voice muffled out.
"No way! Next time, I won't--" Cutting you off the second time, he retracted his head from its hiding place, facing you. The blush could still be seen and besides, the color suit him.
"Who told you to..? I just needed a little bit of getting used to hearing you say my name… Especially in public." Yaku said, the last three words in a whisper.
"Are you sure?" Placing your right hand on his cheek, he leaned in at your touch as you stroked it with your thumb.
"As long as it's my name you're calling and nobody else's. Don’t touch anyone because I’m here, because I’m beside you so, please.. Don't go anywhere. Promise me that you'll always stay by my side." He closed his eyes, hovering his left hand on yours. Such a simple gesture made your heart flutter ten times more than usual or perhaps you were falling for him more as days go by.
"I promise…" A smile lingered on your lips.
It was a comfortable silence, neither of you wanting to break it. Leaning in, you placed a kiss on his forehead, making him mirror the smile you wore.
"Oh, and please don't tell the others that I, uhh… crashed." He stepped back as you chuckled.
"Don't worry, I won't."

He wore a smile the next day, seeing you dismiss the guys who were flirting with you. The training camp had come to an end, the coaches preparing a barbecue for everyone. You and the girls sat together, laughing at each other's jokes. Some of the players blushed at the sight of your little group while the others, mainly Yamamoto and two from Karasuno's team roamed around, keeping anyone from looking at Shimizu.
You joined Yaku and a few of your team after a while, the libero wrapping an arm around your waist, "Oya? Is Yaku finally telling everyone to leave his little girlfriend be?"
"Shut up, Tetsurou. Unlike Morisuke, you couldn't get a girl to like you back! Plus, you really should try to fix your hair…" You pointed out, earning a few snickers from second years.
"That's pretty low, (y/n). And did you just call him by his first name? That's new. Made up or something?" Kuroo said, grinning widely, dismissing the topic about his hair.
"Huh? Oh yeah. Still trying to get used to it though." Yaku blushed, receiving a loud laugh from the captain.
"What's with the face, seriously? You'll ruin your reputation as a demon senpai if you keep that up!" The two bickered, not noticing a player coming up towards you.
"Hey! Nekoma's manager!!" Your group froze, turning towards the source of the voice, "We were wondering if we could get your number?"
Yaku had a scowl on his face, wanting to leap at the player right there and then, but calmed himself down, "I'm sorry but, I don’t like seeing my girlfriend giving her number to just any guy…"
"Girlfriend? So, you’re the..? Man, even though you’re pretty cool on court, you’re just a--" You hit the player on the stomach, making him curl forward.
"Yeah, he's really cool but, say something negative about him and I'll make sure you won't get to play on court for a few months." You threatened, both Kuroo and Yaku flashing a smirk towards the guy. He left after gaining composure from your attack as you returned to your place beside the libero.
"You're surprisingly brutal, (y/n)-chan." Kuroo let out another laugh, you followed with a giggle.
"Well, I learn only from the best!" You proudly said.
"You make it sound like that hurting people's good.." Yaku pouted, making you kiss his cheek. His eyes shot wide open, his mouth hanging and his face erupted to a color that would put Nekoma's volleyball uniform to shame. He wasn't clearly expecting you to kiss him in public, even if it was on the cheek.
"W-what was that for?!" He asked, with Kuroo still howling from behind you two.
"Hmm, no reason. Just felt like I should." You shrugged, Yaku sighed as he finally managed to bring back the original color to his face.
"God, I love you." He only shook his head, a chuckle leaving his lips.
"Love you too, Morisuke." You held his hand, clenching it tightly.
"By the way, nice hit though."
"Thanks babe!" Needless to say, you should really stop surprising the third year or else making him blush would become your next hobby.
