Yoooooooo as you can see death has not taken me just yet. other things tho have, I've been busy and I have a few WIPs but my reason this time for being away is my friend situation I wrote a fic about. yeah update, nothing changed and it's going downhill but I digress; the real reason I'm writing. 1. I got 3 fics in the work; 1 john 2 tommy
2. recently I got into the Chicago series much to my friends delight as she asked me years ago; I guess my thing is I kinda wanna write fics for the series (just fire and p.d since I haven't started med yet) but I'm unsure.

A busy day at the Garrison had finally come to an end. (Y/N) was working on emptying the buckets from around the pub floor, one of her final closing chores of the evening. She was so ready to head home and call it a night.
The sound of the main door opening didn’t even make her look up. “I’ll be finished shortly, Mr. Shelby. The bottle you requested was delivered earlier today. I left it out on the shelf in the stock room,” she greeted and informed the man she thought had entered the building.
Even though Tommy had told her to address him by his first name, Arthur and John hadn’t made that distinguishment yet. She still addresssed them as ‘Mr. Shelby’.
Arthur always liked to come in after closing. He never sought out company, saying that an empty pub was one of the places where he did his best thinking.
The response that (Y/N) got, however, quickly told her that the person who arrived was not Arthur Shelby.
“Go pour me a drink, will you?” The voice was deep and unfamiliar. It made her look up from what she was doing. Her eyes fell on a man she hadn’t seen in the pub before.
“We’re closed, sir,” she told him, maintaining a level, professional voice. Her hesitancy was heightening with each second that passed.
“I didn’t see no sign on the door,” the man commented, jerking his thumb in the direction of the doors to emphasize his point, “you’re the barmaid, yeah?” His eyebrows were now raised as he took a few more steps in her direction.
“I am,” she nodded, her voice still level.
“Then go pour me a fucking drink,” he insisted, a tinge of anger seeping into his voice.
“Sir, we’re closed,” she was also insistent; keeping her boundary clear. The books were already balanced for the night, and who knows…pouring him one drink could have the potential of this man staying all night.
After being on her feet all day, all (Y/N) wanted was to go home. It seemed like she wasn’t going to be getting that wish so easily tonight, though.
“I don’t give a fuck if you’re closed,” the man began, his words coming through gritted teeth as his stalked even closer to her, “I’ve been working like a dog all damn day; I’ve earned my keep, so I won’t come in here and be told by a fucking barmaid that I can’t be served a glass of fucking whiskey!” he went off on a rant, his eyes widening with anger as he came to a stop right in front of (Y/N).
She was trying all that she could to keep her composure, but she’d be lying if she said that his actions weren’t intimidating her.
“Sir…”
“Pour me. A fucking. Drink,” he cut her off, his words being spoken through his teeth in a low, seething tone. He then reached out and roughly gripped onto (Y/N)’s chin, allowing him to pull her closer to him against her will, “do it now,” he commanded her, a smirk creeping onto his face as he continued, “before I decide to have my way with you.”
(Y/N) opened her mouth to speak, trying with all of her might to keep herself composed while this man’s fingers were surely leaving imprints on her skin. “I’m not afraid of you,” she spoke with as much confidence as she could muster.
The man just grinned at her statement, obviously not caring that she was standing up for herself. He knew he was the one with the power in this situation. “We’ll see about that when you’re…”
He could even finish the sentence. The man’s hand was ripped from her body without warning as his entire body jerked backwards; being pulled by someone (Y/N) couldn’t quite see.
“What…the fuck?” The man sounded entirely confused by this third person entering the situation. Before said person was able to do anything else, the man raised his right arm, bent it and sent his elbow flying backwards; connecting with the person who’d put hands on him.
This didn’t do much to thwart the new person’s attack though. The man was immediately pushed forward in response to the elbow, and it was then that the identity of the mystery person was revealed.
“(Y/N), move,” Tommy spoke in a serious tone, his eyes locking onto hers for a split second.
(Y/N) couldn’t say much, the adrenaline coursing through her body making it tough to string anything together. It was all happening so fast. She trusted her feet to move her behind the bar as the man who attacked her stumbled and turned to face Tommy.
“‘M just tryin’ to get a fuckin’ drink, mate,” the man said as he lunged toward Tommy.
“This place is closed. Should’ve fucking listened to her,” Tommy responded, stopping the man before he was able to do anything, pushing him away once again. The man then looked around, seeing what was close enough for him to grab. His eyes settled on one of the chairs (Y/N) had set on top of the table so that she could mop the floor. “Don’t do that,” Tommy, who realized what the man was thinking, said in attempts to curb the man’s decision. “Just go home and don’t come back here.”
“I want my fucking drink!” the man exclaimed, forgoing the chair and charging Tommy yet again. He immediately took hold of Tommy’s collar, gripping at it in attempts to wrap his hands around his neck. Tommy grabbed onto the man’s waistcoat, bunching it up as they both grappled for a better position on their adversary.
The man was able to move his hands upwards, finding space above Tommy’s collar to wrap his fingers. He grinned at this victory, sniggering as Tommy’s eyes widened. Both had realized that he’d now gained the upper hand in the fight.
This power balance didn’t last long as Tommy quickly managed to find a break in the man’s composure, using this moment of gloating the man was doing to remove his hands and push him away.
The man stumbled slightly, still not deterred, before charging right back to his opponent. He managed to land one last punch with a wild swinging of his fist before Tommy squared up and responded with one of his own. This blow sent the man falling to the floor, and Tommy wasted no time clambering on top of him.
Something snapped inside of him as he corralled the man beneath him. Despite the current position he was in, it was obvious that this man wasn’t giving up on the fight. His arms were flailing around, grabbing onto Tommy’s overcoat in attempts to knock off his balance and remove his weight so that he could be on his feet again.
Tommy didn’t let that happen though. He took one of the buckets (Y/N) had been going around emptying into his hands and briefly wielded it over his head before bringing it down to strike his opponent in the face. The man’s flailing stopped in an instant, obviously stunned by the blow. This didn’t stop Tommy though. It was like everything was now tinted over red as he began to repeatedly strike the man in the head with the bucket.
“Tommy!” The voice sounded muffled, like it was far away. Tommy’s eyes were practically shut now. He was back in the tunnels, fighting for his life against this enemy underneath him. He wouldn’t, couldn’t let up for fear that if he did, the man would spring back up and finish him off. “Tommy, stop!” The voice sounded like a woman’s. It had to be his mind playing a trick on him. “He’s finished!”
Then it clicked. (Y/N). His surroundings returned. He was no longer contained in a tunnel….he was at the Garrison. The man below him was no longer a German solider….it was the man who he first saw with his hand gripping (Y/N)’s chin. (Y/N).
Tommy brought the bucket down, steadying himself as his chest heaved for breath. He became aware of the silence that filled the room and didn’t dare look down at the man below him. After taking a few more deep breaths, he finally lifted his head. He looked around, searching for the woman who’d brought him out of the animal-like state he previously was in.
(Y/N) was resting up against the end of the bar. She was peering around the corner, and had watched the entire altercation happen. A deep breath — perhaps a sigh of relief — escaped her lips when Tommy’s eyes locked onto hers. Once she deemed the situation safe, she moved out from behind the bar and rose to her feet. Slowly, cautiously she made her way over to where Tommy was still kneeling. She tried hard to focus on him and not the bloodied man laying lifeless on the ground
“You should’ve left, (Y/N),” Tommy spoke sternly, trying hard to hide the fact that he too was shaken up by the altercation. It had been awhile since he’d let himself go back to that place; let himself become engulfed by the rage that seemed to reverberate off of the tunnel walls. He hated that (Y/N) had also watched him go to that place. “You shouldn’t have seen that.”
“Tommy, you’re hurt,” (Y/N) ignored his statements, her eyes focused in on the cut above his eyebrow.
“You should leave,” Tommy also ignored what she had said to him, still stuck on trying to carry out damage control.
“Let me see your head,” she continued on with what she was now worried about, moving even closer to him before bending down to get a better look at the injury he’d sustained.
“You shouldn’t be here, (Y/N),” Tommy was still stuck. His voice was teetering on breaking and he hated it. He hated that he wasn’t the one who was strong in this moment; hated that she’d now seen him for who he truly was.
He’d spent months trying to keep up good graces, spending every second of the extra time he had at the Garrison in hopes of being able to talk with, or even just to catch a glimpse of, her.
It had been that way since she’d been hired. For once, he let Arthur make a decision in the business, and — for once — Arthur had chosen correctly. (Y/N) was the best thing that had happened to that establishment in a long time.
Her kind gesture that came in the form of the flowers she brought him a few weeks ago only served to heighten his desire to see her; to be around her. She’d been on his mind since she exited the snug that day.
But now things had the potential to change drastically. She’d never seen him like this; never experienced this other side of him. He was worried that all of the trust that had been built up between them would now come crashing down.
“I’m not afraid of you, Tommy,” she told him, her eyes locking onto his as she spoke. “You saved me from that man; from what he was looking to do. You did what you needed to do in that moment, and I’m not afraid of you for it. God knows how things would have played out had you not arrived when you did.” Her words were spoken with earnestness, and she hoped that it would cut through whatever whirlwind that she was able to see was raging in his mind at that moment. “You’ve got a cut above your eye. Will you let me look at it?” she brought attention to his injury then.
“I’ll be fine, love,” he brushed off her offer.
“It looks rather bad,” she commented.
“(Y/N)…” he trailed off, saying her name in a sort of a warning tone in hopes to tell her not to push back on how he was responding.
“Let me look at it, please,” she insisted, forgoing the warning, “I won’t be able to sleep if I leave without doing so.”
Tommy thought for a moment. Much like when she was injured and he was offering help, it was quite obvious that she wasn’t going to let up on her stance. She wanted to help him.
“Ok,” he finally gave in to her insistence, nodding his head slightly.
“Good,” she nodded back, appeased with the outcome of their conversation.
“We can go into me office. First aid things should still be in there,” he said, allowing her to stand first before he finally moved from the man he’d beaten.
(Y/N) waited for him to be fully on his feet before she led him back to where the offices were located in the pub. Tommy made a mental note to make sure she exited through the back door of the building, and to also get some men in here to clean things up before the pub opened the next day.
“Sit,” she commanded him, motioning to the chair behind the desk as she moved to grab the things she needed.
“Instant, eh?” Tommy commented, the slightest grin forming on his face as he listened to what she told him to do.
He sat down and watched as she gathered some things before finally moving over to where he was. She placed the materials on the desk next to her before she reached out and gently tilted his chin upwards so that she could see his face better. Thank goodness she had something to be focused on now, because otherwise she would have melted from the way he was looking at her.
First she grabbed a clean cloth and began to wipe the blood from around the cut. Doing this allowed her to get a better look at how bad the injury was. “I don’t think you’ll need any stitches,” she commented, her eyes briefly leaving his face so that she could put some antiseptic onto a cloth. She was still able to feel Tommy’s eyes watching her intently. After wiping the cut with the cloth, she put a small piece of adhesive plaster on it in hopes to keep it covered. She took a step back once she was finished. “I think you should be good now,” she affirmed with a smile.
“Thank you, (Y/N),” he said appreciatively, his eyes unable to leave her.
“Consider it me repaying the favor,” she smiled at him.
“What type of flowers do you like?” Tommy asked a question, switching up the topic of conversation.
“Primroses.” At first (Y/N) thought nothing of it. Then the randomness of the question clicked. “Why did you ask me that?” she asked, her brows furrowed.
“I want to thank you for repaying the favor,” he responded in a nonchalant manner.
“You don’t need to do that. Saying ‘thank you’ is more than enough for me,” she insisted, “besides, this is the least I can do given how you helped me out there.”
Tommy pursed his lips, hoping to make her think that he was mulling over what she’d said. He wasn’t though…his mind had already been made up. “Alright,” he agreed with her, or rather with himself, “it’s late…can I walk you home?”
“Only if I’m not holding you from anything in doing so.”
“You’re not.”
“You may walk me home,” (Y/N) smiled at him, moving to throw the things she used in the bin. Tommy had lit a cigarette and was waiting at the office’s door by the time she finished. She smiled softly at him and he took it as his go-ahead to leave the room and lead her out of the building.
Tumblr media
Today was (Y/N)’s first day back after everything that had happened that evening a few days ago. She was thankful that she was in for the opening shift because she was able to have some time alone in the pub before patrons started coming in.
What was waiting for her on the counter was something she hadn’t expected at all.
Sitting in the middle was a vase filled with a lovely selection of primrose flowers. A soft gasp left her lips as a smile formed on her face. Then she noticed the note sticking out of the top of the bouquet. Moving over to the counter, she grabbed the small piece of paper and read what was written on it: I still wanted to repay the favor. — TS. The words made her laugh. Her smile widened and her heart fluttered as she looked at the flowers again.
“Wonder who those could be from?” Harry, the barman who worked alongside (Y/N), commented with a grin as he emerged from the stock room.
“Oh, I don’t know,” (Y/N) played coy. They both knew who these flowers were from, and a knowing look was exchanged before Harry continued on with his morning duties.
(Y/N) looked at the note again, her smile widening once more.

Not again was the first thought (Y/N) had as she heard the knock sound off of her front door. Only one person would be knocking at this time of night...and he'd most likely be knocking for only one reason.
"What happened this time, Thomas?" she asked with a sigh as she opened the door to see the man she knew was standing on the other side.
"Why so formal?" he asked nonchalantly, a cigarette lazily hanging from his lips, resting on the side that wasn't split and still bloody.
"It's two in the morning," she responded, turning and walking deeper into her home. The foosteps sounding behind her told her he was following. "I'd much rather be sleeping."
"I can go if you want," he offered.
"No, you've already woken me up," she dismissed his suggestion, "what happened this time?" she re-asked her initial question.
"Same old," his nonchalant nature returned as he sat down in the chair (Y/N) pulled out for him.
"So a bar fight? Or bet gone wrong?" she paused getting the necessary supplies to quirk an eyebrow at him.
"Neither," Tommy shrugged, looking down at his busted knuckles as he flexed his hand.
"So not the same old?" there was a slight tinge of surprise in (Y/N)'s voice. "Please do tell what happened."
"Someone spoke to me the wrong way," he responded, his explanation still very vague. (Y/N) didn't press for any more info because she knew this was all she'd get out of him.
What Tommy wanted to say was that he had to punch some bastard's teeth in for speaking about her the wrong way, and then he proceeded to fight said bastard and two of his drunken friends when they wouldn't let it go. He couldn't admit that to her though.
"Ahh..." (Y/N) trailed off as she moved over to him, placing the supplies she gathered on the table beside him as she stopped to stand between his parted legs.
Tommy resisted the urge to reach out and hold her waist even though he so desperately wanted to do so to steady himself.
"Let's see what we've got here," she said, more so to herself as she gently took hold of his chin to get a better look at his face. The hiss he let out made her realize that his jaw had also been bruised in the altercation.
She quietly got started on dabbing the blood off of his split lip, and followed it up with putting some ointment on the cut in hopes it wouldn't get infected.
She then examined the rest of his facial features for any other injury all while trying to shake the feeling of his intense gaze that was focused on her face. She couldn't let her feelings for him get the better of her... not while in this position.
"Let me see your hands now," she instructed him once she considered his face finished.
"They're fine, love," he brushed her off, keeping them balled in fists resting against his thighs.
"Let me see them, Tommy," she insisted, her eyes meeting his to convey the serious nature of the situation.
The slightest sigh escaped his lips as he flattened out his hands. (Y/N)'s eyes immediately went to his right hand, and she took it into hers to get a closer look at his bloodied knuckles. "Goodness, Tommy," she breathed softly as she grabbed a wet cloth and began to gently wipe the blood off. She couldn't help but wince as he hissed at the feeling. The cuts looked deep and had to be painful. "Did the man have a steel jaw?" she, half-jokingly, questioned him as she began placing the same ointment on his knuckles.
"Must've," Tommy mumbled, letting out a soft snort at her attempts to make light of the situation.
(Y/N) smiled softly at his response, finishing up what she was doing with his right hand before she checked over his left. She then stepped out from between his legs when she considered herself done, moving over to the kitchen countertop to begin cleaning up. The scrape of the chair off of the hardwood floor told her that Tommy had also stood up.
"Make sure you some ice on your jaw and you should be good in a-" her statement was cut off by the shriek of surprise she let out when she turned around to tind Tommy now standing right behind her. "You scared me, Tommy," she gasped, placing her hand over her chest as she took some calming breaths.
"Wasn't my intention," he responded, although he couldn't help but smile at the reaction he'd gotten from her.
"You frustrate me sometimes," she huffed, shaking her head before she brought a hand up to the side of it, hoping that she could remember what it was she was saying before the surprise happened. "I was saying that if you remember to put ice on your jaw and make sure your cuts stay clean you should be good in a few days...now are you going to follow that? No, most likely not, but it's my hope that you will," she explained her plan of treatment to him, finishing her rambling by glancing up at him. "Why're you looking at me like that?" she asked without thought, commenting on the intense gaze he currently had locked on her.
His blue eyes just about made her shudder under their stare, and she'd be lying if she said that the undivided attention he was giving her was making her heat up.
"What, am I not allowed to look at you?" he asked, his brows raising.
"No, not like that, you aren't," she insisted, holding a hand out between them to emphasize her statement.
"How exactly am I looking at you, (Y/N)?" he asked another question, wanting clarification from her.
"You're looking at me like..." she trailed off, struggling to find the words that she needed to convey her statement, "like you think that l'm...like I'm some..."
"Like you're the only person in the world?" Tommy cut off her stumbling, hoping that his suggestion would finish her sentence. As he spoke he stepped closer to her.
"Yes, exactly!" she agreed with him without putting much thought into what he was saying, "you were looking at me like I was the only person in the world."
"And you don't like it?" he asked, his brow raised inquisitively.
Now (Y/N) could no longer stay solid under the weight of his gaze combined with his close proximity. She only hoped that she was able to keep a good exterior composure...on the inside she was done for.
"No, it's not that I didn't like it, it's just..."
"Just what?" he pried for more information, his eyes flitting down to her lips as he admired how she looked as he stood inches away from her.
"Jesus, you don't ever act like this, Tommy...what's going on?" she deflected with a question, hoping to carry the conversation on without him realizing that she didn't have a concrete answer to his previous question.
"You didn't answer my question, love," he completely ignored her query to remind her she was ignoring his.
"Yeah, and you didn't answer mine," she wasn't falling for his tactic, instead throwing it back in his face.
"You wanna know why I came here tonight? Why I got into that fight?" he asked her, his brows raised.
"Someone spoke to you the wrong way," she reiterated what he'd told her earlier.
"Someone spoke about you the wrong way," he quickly corrected her, telling the truth this time around and adding emphasis on what actually got him upset, "and you know I can't let anyone do that."
(Y/N) took a moment, letting what he said sink in. His intense gaze stayed locked on her, and it certainly wasn't helping her think straight in this situation. After a few beats of silence, she finally let out a sigh. "I don't need defending, Tommy. I've told you that so many times."
"I'll still take a fuckin' punch for you when I need to, love," he told her, his words making her laugh despite the wild mix of emotions she was currently feeling.
"Oh Tommy." she let out another sigh, trying, and failing, to stop the smile that was tugging on her lips. She quickly turned around and attempted to busy herself with continuing cleaning.
Her diversion didn't last long as only seconds later Tommy's hand was taking hold of her arm to spin her back around to face him. Her mouth opened slightly as she looked at him, waiting for whatever he had to say.
He didn't say anything though. Instead, his gaze flitted between her eyes and lips as he moved in slowly. (Y/N) quickly realized what he was doing. She placed her hands on his chest when she felt his breath fan across her face.
"Tommy, your lip," she said, her voice coming out in a whisper, "this'll hurt it."
"I don't give a damn about my lip, (Y/N)," he firmly replied, moving back slightly so that his eyes could match hers. He could no longer resist from bringing his hand up to hold onto her jaw. "I want to kiss you," he told her then, never sounding more sure about anything in his life.
(Y/N)'s mind was buzzing. She never thought she'd be in this position with Tommy; never thought that their relationship would take that turn. But now here they were, close enough to feel each other's breath.
"Then kiss me," she breathed, unable to even smile at him because his lips were on hers the second she finished speaking.
The kiss felt like a whirlwind. It made her dizzy and fuzzy inside. She never thought someone with such a tough exterior could be so gentle, but here was Tommy Shelby, crushing all of her prior conceptions.
Both were out of breath when they pulled away. Tommy had to close his eyes to center himself, still truly surprised that that had just happened. Truthfully, he'd wanted to kiss (Y/N) from the moment he first spoke to her. He never thought he'd actually get the opportunity. When he finally did open his eyes, he saw that (Y/N) had her gaze locked on his face, and the sweetest smile was present on hers.
"Why're you looking at me like that?" he re-asked the question that got them to this point, a grin forming on his face.
"What, am I not allowed to look at you?" (Y/N) teasingly quipped back, essentially allowing their conversation to do a full 360.
"Love you could look at me all you want, so long as I'm allowed to kiss you again," he waged a deal, playfully quirking an eyebrow as he waited to see how she'd respond.
(Y/N)'s smile only grew. "I'll accept your offer so long as this deal goes both ways."
"Oh it most certainly goes both ways," Tommy grinned, his hand finding her jaw again so that he could match their lips together once more.

I can always count on you to hype me up and help me out whenever I’m in need, Lee, and I’m deeply appreciative of that. 💛 Thanks so very much for sending this in! I’m sorry it took a bit for me to post it…I hope I did it justice! 😊
Like Old Times
Arthur Shelby x Reader
Summary: Arthur goes behind his brother’s back and seeks out (Y/N) for a plan.
Word Count: 1146
Warnings: none
COMMENTS & REBLOGS ARE APPRECIATED — I’d love to know what you thought of the story!
Tumblr media
“Finally came to your senses, I see,” (Y/N) commented as she realized who it was standing in the archway of her sitting room. “Come, sit. Have a drink with me.”
Arthur Shelby stood, frozen for a moment or two longer. He clenched his peaked cap in his hands, his knuckles growing white as he contemplated whether or not was actually doing to do this. Was he actually going to turn his back on his brother?
“I…I just wanted ta…” he was a fumbling mess, his hesitance spilling out into his words.
“You can skip the explanation, Arthur,” she cut his babbling off. Her stern voice had him standing straight; almost like he’d just been called to attention. (Y/N) grinned when she noticed that she - still - had that effect on him. “Are you with me or not?” she asked then, a slight grin playing on her lips.
“I’m with you,” he nodded his head, sounding more sure now.
“Good,” (Y/N) nodded as well, “now come and sit. I’d still like to have a drink with you,” she attempted to coax him over again.
This time he listened. (Y/N) offered a closed mouth smile and a glass as he sat down in the seat across from her. Arthur accepted it, his eyes locked on her as he slowly brought the glass up to his lips and took a drink.
“So how are we going about it?” (Y/N) asked, crossing one leg over the other as she leaned back in her chair again.
“I…” he had to pause and clear his voice, hating how shaky it sounded as it came out, “I’m not sure if Tommy will, uh….I’m not sure he’ll appreciate anyone going against him,” he was finally able to voice his worry on the situation.
(Y/N)’s eyebrows furrowed as she heard what Arthur had to say. Silence hung between the two for a few moments before the slightest smile formed on her lips.
“What’s…what’s that smile for?” Arthur asked hesitantly.
“Tommy’s not going to have a choice in this matter, Arthur,” (Y/N) responded, her smile growing as she spoke.
“What do you mean?” he still wasn’t understanding what she was getting at.
“If I’m remembering what you said correctly…” she began, sitting up a little bit straighter in her seat before continuing, “he put you in charge of the Eden Club, right?”
“He did.”
“And so you’re the one who gets the final say in what happens there, right?” she asked another question.
“I am,” he was slowly starting to understand.
“And why else on Earth would you’ve come to me if not to get a second opinion on what the Peaky Blinders’d like the club to look like?” her grin was ear to ear now.
I miss spending time with you, was what Arthur wanted to say. But he couldn’t say that to her, not yet at least.
He kicked himself every single day for mishandling his and (Y/N)’s relationship. She was without a doubt the best thing that had happened to him, and yet he still managed to make a mess out of what they once had together. She stuck by him when the Shelby name meant nothing; when Arthur was trying everything he could to make sure his family survived after the war ended.
But then he chose the company over her. It was hard for him not to at the time…Tommy wanted him one-hundred percent invested, and Arthur was determined to show his brother that he also meant business. But meaning business meant personal matters fell to the back burner. (Y/N) wouldn’t have that, so she gave him the ultimatum: split his time better or she leaves. The end result was the latter.
“Arthur?” her voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
“Hmm?” the noise he made told her that he hadn’t heard what she said.
“I asked you about the vision you had for the club,” she repeated herself, not questioning the reason behind his zoning out, “were you thinking more traditional or modern?”
Arthur felt himself relax as he realized she actually wanted to get into discussion on the club’s appearance. He was worried she would want to re-hash past grievances. But she was ready to get to work, and he was thankful for it.
So get to work they did.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t until they got to a pause in their conversation that Arthur realized he hadn’t had much of his drink. He was so engulfed in their shared ideas and her excitement for the upcoming projects that he didn’t so much as think of the thing that he so frequently used as a crutch.
“We laid a pretty adequate groundwork for the club so far, don’t you think?” (Y/N) asked, scribbling a few more things down in the notebook she’d grabbed for the occasion.
“I think so,” Arthur agreed, a grin on his face.
“Look at us, Arthur…” she started, a smile on her face as he raised his eyebrows at her, waiting to hear what else she had to say, “working together again…just like old times.”
Her smile grew as she finished her statement, watching as Arthur raisied his drink in a nonverbal agreement. He took a big swig from it then, enjoying the burn it brought as the liquid travelled down his throat.
“What if…” he started, clearing his throat in hopes he’d sound more confident, “what if I took ya to the club sometime?”
“So I could get a better idea of what we’re working with?” (Y/N) questioned, tilting her head to the side slightly.
“No, uh…” Arthur paused again, feeling silly because obviously she’d take his offer in that light, they’d only been discussing the plans on renovating the club for the last hour or so. “I was thinkin’…I was thinkin’ you and I could go there together. Like…like I could take you there and we could…”
“Arthur Shelby, are you asking me on a date?” she cut into his sheepish babbling, her eyebrows raised as a smile teetered on her lips.
“I, uh…” he let out a sheepish laugh, taking a deep breath and finding her eyes, “I guess I am,” he ended his statement with a smile, waiting on bated breath for her response.
Seconds felt like hours as they passed. (Y/N) wanted to make sure that she was making the right choice. She couldn’t deny that she had missed him. Him showing up and asking her for help at the club surprised her, sure, but she was overjoyed to be able to see him again. And now he was asking her out…maybe this was a chance to start anew.
So, her smile widened as she finally opened her mouth to give her answer, “I’d love to go with you, Arthur.”
Tumblr media
Post note: I can’t seem to stop writing Arthur as a stuttering fool when around the woman he has feelings for….I just really think he’d act that way in said situation

HI K!!! I'm glad to hear from you! it is a shame that's what's happening but I'm tired if being the first one always reaching out and asking to hang and stuff. only realized it this years after they ghosted me for like 3 months and only came back when their aunt passed away. which I found out later. which made me realize why they finally messaged me back in the first place 😮‍💨 I'm just tired of it all and ranting to my mom so I wrote out my feelings here. eventually I'll talk to them about this again but not rn. that'll be another time 😂 shame is she does it with my mom too.
ngl it broke my heart writing that line but deep down I think I feel it for having these feelings that aren't caused by my actions.
I hope to write more and post more! i miss writing for this blog 😢

Regret, that’s what she felt. It only grew with every step she took. Droplets of water dripped from her hair and face as she walked on. The rain coming down in buckets. Only picking up as she continued to walk home. How could she be so stupid? This always happened, how naïve could she have been. Her best friend, so maybe so she thought, once again pulling away for a boyfriend. It was unconsciously of course, but regardless, it still hurt. As it always happened when they got in a relationship. After a breakup they’d come crawling back, spending time, talking, like nothing ever happened. It would be good, felt like they were friends again, only for the cycle to happen again when they got a new boyfriend. Only hearing from her friend when she needed something or to talk about her young daughter.
The woman had talked to her friend about this and how she felt. She swore she’d do better but, like she thought, they grew distant again. Feeling like a second thought and only a friend of convince once again. The friend she’d knew since they were five. Always doing everything for them but feeling as though they get nothing in return. It stung, it hurt and burned. Longing for that friendship they never seemed to have in the first place. All of it sinking in as she walked home from her friend's house that night. Feeling numb and hollow at how long it’s taken her to realize it.
She gasped as she left a hand grab her bicep. Too lost in her own thoughts to hear the steps and voice of the person calling out to them. Instinct taking over, her other hand swinging around to hit the person who had grabbed her. But they were prepared for it, catching her wrist and pulling it to their chest to prevent her from hitting them. Calling her name as she struggled.
“Stop! It’s me Tommy!” Thomas yelled over the rain
“Tommy?” She questioned
The panic leaving her system to see it was Thomas Shelby. Letting out a big sigh as the tension left her. Thomas let her go as she stopped struggling. Gently he placed his hands on her arms as he looked at her in concern.
“What are you doing out here? You’re fucking freezing.”
It was a valid question, one that made her jump back to reality. Feeling the cold that soaked into her skin, the sound of the heavy rain all around her. The way her soaked clothing clung to her skin. How she had forgotten her coat earlier that evening. Even with all that, there was only one thought on her mind. One she voiced as she watched Thomas struggle to get his coat off.
“Am I a bad friend, Tommy?”
He froze at her sudden question. It was laughable to him, if he didn’t realize she was serious. Finally taking a good look at her to see her puffy eyes and red nose, not caused by the rain. With a soft sigh he was finally able to get his coat off and wrap it around her shoulders. Taking time to fix it in the front so she stayed warm and cupped her cheeks.
“No. You are the best friend anyone could ask for.”
“Then why does my best friend prioritize her boyfriend more than me? I’m nothing but a second thought to them it feels. Even after I've voiced my feelings about this to them. Nothing changed.”
“Because they don’t know what they’re fucking missing. If this isn’t the first time, then nothing will change. That’s when you say fuck’em and move on.”
“And if it’s too hard?” She asked with tears in her eyes
“It will be hard, but you shouldn’t try to fix something that remains broken. It’s not your fault, it’s theirs for not trying. The pain will heal over time with the right people by your side. It's better to let go than struggle on.”
Thomas grabbed her hand and lead her away to a warmer place. Making sure to mend her broken heart along the way.

Everyone: *chatting around the dining room table for a family dinner*
Tommy: *hands Y/N the salt*
Y/N: Thanks, dad
Everyone: *stops talking and stares*
Y/N: *confused* Why is everyone staring at me?
Ada: You just called Tommy ‘dad’. You said, ‘Thanks, dad’
Y/N: What? No! I said, ‘Thanks, bro’
Tommy: Do you see me as a father figure, N/N?
Y/N: Pftt- no! If anything, I see you as a bother figure, cause you’re always bothering me!
John: Hey! Show your father some respect!
Y/N: I didn’t call him ‘dad’!
Tommy: No, no, Y/N, I take it as a compliment
Arthur: It’s no big deal. I called Linda ‘mom’ once and she’s my wife!
Y/N: Guys, jump on that! Arthur has psycho issues!!
Finn: Old news. But you called Tommy ‘dad’
Y/N: Guys, for the last time, I didn’t call Tommy ‘dad’!
Tommy: That’s alright, I believe you-
Y/N: *sighs in relief* Thank you
Tommy: -daughter. You want to talk about it later over a game of catch?
Y/N:
Y/N: *tears up* I'd like that

Can’t Think of a Happier Moment
Arthur Shelby x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: pregnancy
Word Count: 728
Summary: Arthur finally manages to clearly communicate his emotions in the moment where it’s needed most.
Tumblr media
Arthur was able to see it in her eyes the second she came to a stop in front of him. She’d asked him to be home when she got back and he made sure of it, not caring if it meant leaving the Garrison before Tommy even got there. His brother would understand. His wife came first.
“Alright, what is it?” he asked, wanting to get right into what she wanted to tell him.
“What is what?” she responded with her own question.
“Why’d ya call me home? Got something to tell me?” he raised his eyebrows.
“Bold of you to assume such a thing, Arthur Shelby,” she couldn’t help but giggle, “maybe I just wanted to spend some time with you.”
Arthur’s eyebrows furrowed in an instant. That surely couldn’t have been the only reason she pulled him away from the Garrison, from business, right? “I love ya, darlin’, and I love spending time with you, but couldn’t that have waited until after I finished what I was doin’ at the Garrison?” he came out and asked, not yet sure if doing so would equate to stepping on a bear trap.
And (Y/N) could have made it into one. But she didn’t. She was too excited at the moment and actually did have some news to share with him. “I was over at Pol’s when I called…” she began. Arthur nodded, showing her that he was listening and that she could continue. “She’d just told me something, and I could have shared it on the phone, but I decided that telling you in person would be better.”
“And what is that?” he asked after a few moments had passed and she hadn’t shared anything else.
“You know that Polly’s got a gift, right?” she started off with another question.
“She’s got many,” he agreed.
“Well she told me something…” At this point, (Y/N) herself wasn’t sure why she was continuing to beat around the bush on this. He was clearly invested in the conversation. Hell, he’d skipped out on his brother because she told him that she had something to tell him. Hanging onto the secret just built up the excitement inside of her even more. She hoped he’d feel the same.
“What’d she tell you, love?”
“She told me that…that you and I…” she paused, taking a deep breath as her smile grew, “we’re gonna have a baby, Arthur.”
At first Arthur just blinked. It took a few moments for the information to settle in; for it to actually click in his mind. And when it did, a tidal wave of words came tumbling out of his mouth. “She said that…she, she thought that, no, she knew that you were…that we’re going to…holy shit, you’re, you’re pregnant, (Y/N).”
“I am,” she nodded, speaking in a soft voice.
“Holy fucking shit,” he breathed, talking to himself more than anything. There was a whole flurry of different emotions coursing through him at the moment. His eyes dropped to the floor for a moment, taking a pause to collect himself before looking up again. His eyes immediately found hers, and he couldn’t help but let a smile form on his face. He tipped his head slightly, his heart hammering in his chest. “Pregnant,” he breathed again.
“Yes,” (Y/N) response came in a similar tone, tears welling up in her eyes. “Are you happy right now?” she just had to ask him, wanting to know if he was feeling the same excitement that she was.
“I can’t think of a happier moment in my life, love,” he wasted no time in telling her, his smile growing. (Y/N) noticed that his eyes were practically twinkling. He held her gaze for a moment before his eyes dropped to her stomach. No bump was present, but he knew that his child was there. “Can I?” he asked her then, his hands inching closer to her frame.
“Yes, Arthur,” she couldn’t help but softly laugh at his hesitance. Her heart swelled with love as he let out a soft chuckle and placed his hands against her stomach, gently caressing it.
“Our baby…” he trailed off, looking back up at her again.
“Our baby,” she affirmed, lifting one of her hands to rest against his neck before she leaned in and pressed her lips to his.
