Every day is a new day, for new adventures, new beginnings, new choices and a new you! I'm these testing times it's sometimes difficult to see the good in the world... and when you can't see the good then be the good in the world. Be the action you want to see, be the positive you want to feel, we can all create the contagious ray of optimism we all crave. To quote Trainspotting just 'choose life'! Look... I'm back at the Guggenheim... in my mind. I have been spending some time going through all the photos and videos that I took during my long walk, and have been planning on creating a little something-something... I'm just not sure what that something will be yet. Stay ruined to find out... 😉 In the meantime I have been enjoying going through my travel journal, remembering some of the random and crazy moments along the way. It can be the smallest thing that manages to put a smile on my goofy face, and I have had many smiles lately. Anyways... enjoy the Guggenheim... and enjoy your day! Smile like you mean it (though not too much, otherwise you'll just look like a crazy person). (at Museo Guggenheim Bilbao) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAu0IrojQzI/?igshid=46qymwo5rp0v

Bonjour! Hola! Hej Hej! Salut! Hello! G'day! I know it has been a while, and I have missed doing my posts, and missed every one of you! Today is the year anniversary of the start of The Long Walk... A year ago today I left my Morzine home and set out on my solo, wild camping, hammock mission of walking across the whole of France and on to the North Coast of Spain. It has been a moment of reflection, reminiscing, remembering all the amazing paces I have seen, the awesome people I met along The Way of St James, the stories I heard, the experiences I shared, and the trials and tribulations of such an epic adventure. Whilst I am remembering the positives of my journey, there were also low points. Low points that I chose to share with you all. I didn't want my journey to be a Facebook/Instagram snapshot of just the good bits, I wanted it to show a true account of what I went through, just as much for me to look back on as well as showing the true rollercoaster of a journey I went through. We never know everyone's story... We never know the story that people hold behind their eyes... The burdens they carry... The hopes they have... The daily struggles that people may be going through. This is more poignant now than ever before, as we are in a worldwide lockdown, tied and confined to our homes in ways that the last few generations have never known or experienced. We will all have gone through a rollercoaster of emotions and stresses over the past months that are unusual to us, though these times may not be so unfamiliar to others. This week is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek... This week, and everyday of the year, we should take time to think about those that deal with these issues on a daily basis, regardless of lockdown, and those that strive and struggle to live an awesome life. We should never take for granted what we all have, the people around us, and the positives in our lives. This isn't always easy, and a thousand mile journey starts with the first step. Be kind to those around you, because you never know their full story, and what that smile may be hiding. Share a smile, you never know how much someone may need it. x https://www.instagram.com/p/CAaIbljjTft/?igshid=1ljs321j9314i

UK Election 2019... Happy Voting Day! I have never felt so scared, anxious, excited, restless, worried, tired, positive... and a general feeling of anticipation. Polling closes in less than two hours, Polling Stations are open until 10pm tonight and I hope you have either voted or still intend to vote in the most important election of our lifetime. A vote that will shape or break the UK for the next 20-30 years and onwards. I'm European... I'm British... I believe in people, and the good we can achieve. I believe in the NHS... I believe in education for everyone... I believe in the good in people... I believe in a country that brings people together and not one that divides communities and turns neighbour against neighbour. The 5th strongest economy in the world shouldn't have 4 million children in poverty... Almost twice as many food banks than McDonald's... Homelessness, at all... Regardless of who you vote for, vote for your country... Vote for the future of your country... The future of your family... The future of your children... The future of your grandparents, your friends, your neighbours, and the next generation. Make the walk, tick the box, and save the UK from a continuation of the last 10 years of gentle Conservative manipulation, austerity and blame. https://www.instagram.com/p/B5_HKsfg7tj/?igshid=i4xa4teai7zb

Register to Vote! NOW! I generally stay away from Politics on my page... But this is quite possibly the MOST important vote of our time right now. It will take you 5 minutes to register to vote, a vote that will affect the next 4 years of yours (and everyone else around you) lives! If you're happy with the last 10 years, then vote for the floppy haired clown we have as our current Prime Minister... Or you can vote elsewhere and change the current political situation that is currently screwing over the whole of the United Kingdom right now. Either way, and however you vote, note biting in this election is a vote towards Boris the Buffoon! If you want change then make change, don't sit there and complain afterwards that nothing has changed because you didn't take 5 minutes of your day to make the biggest difference any of us can do... Register to vote, then vote, and make that difference! Be the difference! For a footballer analogy, if one player doesn't take part the whole team suffers... Don't sit on the bench, get up, strap on your boots, and take part! https://www.instagram.com/p/B5V_YunARM7/?igshid=1lwsde1chudhd

Guggenheim Museum... The Return! The walk has taken a little detour... A pitstop of sorts. My journey has returned me to the much anticipated (for me anyways) visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. My first attempt landed on the one day of the week that it's closed... and as the sing goes, 'I don't like Mondays', and neither does the museum it seems. This time around I'm going to enjoy exploring it until it closes, or I get thrown out for my blatant photography and videos. But we'll see what happens on that front. 😉 The building was designed to be a part of the city, sitting alongside the river with a pool that joins the building to the river that runs alongside it, the water almost lapping up at the sides. With glass being used to open the museum to the city, and vice versa. There are art installations surrounding the Guggenheim on the outside, as well as all of the artwork and spaces throughout the internal spaces. I knew of this building many years before finally visiting it, and it instantly caught my fascination and interest. It was the main reason I wanted to venture through Bilbao on my long walk. All of us find something fascinating, or something that catches our imagination or inspiration, and this is definitely one of mine. Finally getting to explore the museum makes me feel giddy with excitement, and shouldn't we all find and enjoy something that gets excited every now and then? I don't have any inspirational quote or humourous remark to add to my post today... I'm merely sharing this moment and enjoying it with every ounce of my childlike moment of wonderment. Maybe you get excited about Christmas/New Year, or maybe you have recently celebrated Diwali... this is my present, this is me excitedly unwrapping my parcel of delight, and I'm happy to be sharing it with you. ☺️ (at Museo Guggenheim Bilbao) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Fd9R-gN2S/?igshid=1p5t8yr1wq18f

Day 90... The big 9-0! What an adventure with so far... clearing the 2,000km mark, leaving the Cantabrian coast and moving into Asturia was actually a massive change! For one, the two weeks of waking along mostly roads came to an end (this also coincided with the hurricane style wind dying down a little, so I could safely explore the coastal cliffs again!) The amazingly rustic (and extremely local) Sideria, where I had something that resembled a cheese and ham sandwich, but instead of bread it was squeezed between two massive slices of tenderised veal! 🤤 It... Was... AMAZING! I've also realised that everything in Spain is served with chips! Salad? Pah! That's for the weak and the livestock! I stumbled across 'bufones', which are high pressured holes in the rock that appear slightly inline, and the sea water fires up and out of them to create geyser style water shows. They are impressive in their power and daunting in their destruction to the sea creatures caught in them. I saw the remnants of a squid that had unfortunately travelled through one of these pressure chimneys and landed in bits. The landscape along this part of Spain is otherworldly, untamed cliffs that flow to the Picos de Europa mountains, and not much anything that could be described as flat in between. Moments like this are why we travel and explore... to discover the untamed, the wild, the rough and aggressive surroundings that can't be controlled by mankind. Some nature can't be tamed, merely enjoyed and appreciated for its harsh beauty. (at Llanes) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4425GTgYX6/?igshid=p4m8guc1mt59

Day 88... ...and I have no energy for a lengthy post, so feel free to fill in the blank space with something witty... add a couple of awfully bad puns, definitely a Dad joke, and an inspirational quote. 🍷🧀🍻 (I'll mark your answers on the morrow!) In the meantime I'll leave this awesome picture of the Cantabrian coast for your viewing pleasure. Day 87... The days seem to be running away with themselves recently, grey day blends into grey day. Dry out, rinse, and repeat... Yesterday stood out amongst the palette of greys with a whole host of colourful and amazing people, without them I'm sure I would have gone postal at some point! Ended up broken like some of the storm damage that I passed along the way! The highlight of all this was stumbling upon a hamlet of a town who were celebrating their Saints Day. Each town across Spain has a Saint they celebrate each year, on whatever day that the Saint is allotted its festival/fete. Most of these are during the summer month's (well, if you get to pick your own Saint, why not one that's amongst the months with wonderful sunshine!?) However... this town's Saint was an autumn celebration. Whilst looking for somewhere to setup my stove, knock up a quick cup of caffeine, dunk a couple of biccies and then dash on my way... I was accosted (excuse my poetic licence, merely encouraged) by an extremely happy, and slightly inebriated, Priest. Who then ushered me into the church, plied me with plates of local cheese, cured meats, homemade quesadillas, and other delights I didn't recognise... then filled my empty hand with some homebrew wine, and forced me to join their town fete. I was offered a pack lunch to take with me, continually plied with more homemade goods (I had the feeling that some of the congregation were merely trying to force their baked goods on me... they didn't realise that I don't need much forcing!), one woman even offered to out me up for the night! It was a wonderful moment of respite amongst a continually grey journey. Thank you little town of wonderment, I'll be coming back the same time next year, sharing (and showing off) baked goods of my own! 🍷👣 (at San Vicente de la Barquera) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4x8XE5gz82/?igshid=ns0l1kb7zuir

Day 85... and Day 10 of storms. I have hardly been able to remove my phone from my pocket to take photos, let alone write any updates. So apologies for the lack of anything recently, but you'll get over it! 😉 I have been living in my poncho recently, which I actually love! It's an awesome piece of kit that also doubles up as a ground sheet... which has certainly come in useful when camping up with the hammock and tarp over the last few weeks! The storm has been an excellent test of endurance (for me and the poncho) and the poncho has at least held up. Rain, sleet, hail, thunderstorms, more rain... but it does occasionally stop raining. Which is replaced with 40mph winds, which would've lifted me off my feet were it not for my nicely weighted backpack! Most of the routes over the past few days have involved tarmac... National Routes and main roads have been all I've seen. The coastal variants are no longer an option... Partly because they are muddy and treacherous (see wind comment above), but I also can't see anything when I'm on them. So it's been grey tarmac and grey sky for Anton recently. Grey... Just grey! The positive from all this is that I'm still here, still going, and still battling on. Though at the moment each day is just a new challenge of my stubbornness, we shall see how far my stubbornness really can get me! 😁👣 (at Santillana del Mar) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4svlHjAIx_/?igshid=1oepvbt4gfh37

Day 82... and a belated update. The weather has certainly taken a turn, I won't say for the worst, as that was definitely during the summer of eternal heat! ☀️ Whilst the rain is lashing down, up, sideways, every ways at me and my face I just remember how I suffered during the heatwave earlier in the journey. It may have dropped from 25C down to around 5C, buy hey, whose counting!? 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 I can always put more clothes on, and stuff dries out... So I'm basically winning at life right now! (Thats what I'm talking myself, and nobody is going to convince me otherwise! Hahahaha...) A relentless optimist to the end! When life gives your thunderstorms, lightning, hail, freezing temperatures, and wind so strong it has actually been drying my wet poncho... Then you say cheers buddy, and ask when winter is coming. Winter is coming! 😂 And I can feel it in my fingers, I can feel it in my bones... Rain is all around me... 😂🎶🎵 (at Santoña) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4mYdiBgb14/?igshid=1r6nx8vrxuvgp
