June 11th: Textiles
Learned the significance of mark making, what it could mean, how marks are made, why, when. How to relate the marks to yourself and see what they could mean to you and how to express that meaning onto paper using different textures and objects.
Materials used: Indian ink, paper, paintbrush, masking tape, cotton bud, black ink pen.
The theme I chose was inspired by the freedom I felt while painting these, I like the idea of just throwing the ink wherever I wanted without overthinking whether it looked "good" or not. The marks were from cracks of paint on the walls of the college, cracks from dry patches on the ground and a crack from the tree roots growing under tarmac.

Three common things I found in these three pictures were:
1. Cracks. In the first photo the roots of a tree are breaking up the tarmac that lies on top of it. And the roots are becoming visible. In the second photo, dry cracks are breaking up the dirt on the ground. In the third photo, paint is cracking and peeling off the wall, showing the underlying colors.
2. The colour grey. The grey of the tarmac from the first picture, the dry grayish tone of the soil in the second picture and the gray shadow cast onto the wall in the last picture.
3. The first two pictures are not manmade cracks. The first crack from the root happened due to growth of the tree, tearing up the tarmac over it. The second crack on the second picture happened due to dry weather with no rain.
