Did the way you think about the art change from the first time you looked at it?
- The first time i saw the art piece i just thought it was old clothes with dirt and paint over them, the pictures looked old and it looked like it could be just old rags. The Jute Sacks have a story to tell and now that i have more information it all makes sense and you can now see what the artist is trying to say by making this work. I think it was a great idea of him to use sacks to tell the story of how Ghana was the largest cocoa producer in the 1950s-1960s. Ibrahim Mahama said in an interview that “you find different points of aesthetic within the surface of the sacks fabric.” Some traditional art forms in Ghana include Adinkra symbols, kente waving, pottery, woodcarving, sculpture.
