Sleep has cured me. All better now!

I have been getting rituxan infusions to help with my blood disorder for like... 2ish years now? I pretty much know how I respond to them. Absolutely nothing was done differently today, but I have been experiencing the weirdest leg weakness, and even light touch to the skin on my legs feels like hitting a nerve. Now I am noting similar issues in my lower arms. I realize I should get this checked out, but I feel so generally sick that I think I am just going to sleep and hope it passes by morning. I have others staying over tonight, at least, in case I get way worse. I have a serious love-hate relationship with this medication.

If you want to know the kind of family I come from, you need to know only that my aunt suggested we all get together and go to the cemetery as a fun family get together. She is not talking about our cemetery. None of us are buried at this one.

I had the most insulting thing ever happen to me today when an insurance company denied one of my orders for a Dexcom G7 because it "has to be written by an endocrinologist." What. The. Fuck? It takes an endocrinologist to understand that my patient on a complex insulin regimen, which I manage myself, would benefit from a CGM? I suppose we can just remove diabetes from the FM boards now since apparently only an endocrinologist can manage it.

I work in a poor community with extremely poor patients. I spend every day enraged by watching people who I know would otherwise be living happy and healthy lives suffer with severe psychiatric issues solely because they can't afford shelter, food, and medicine. The stress of it all just wears them down. I see people breaking day after day after day and I can't stop myself from also breaking with the weight of the knowledge that we allow and enable this to continue. There are people I cannot help because they have an incurable condition, and that tragedy is hard enough to cope with. Then there are people I cannot help because, even though the things they need exist, our society refuses access. That is not just a tragedy. It is a crime.

Had a patient today tell me he wasn't diabetic because he "doesn't claim" it. God, I wish it worked like that.

"there is no place for political violence in a democratic society" is such a wild statement bc "political violence" exclusively means violence directed at politicians and not the massive amounts of both structural violence and literal physical violence that politicians inflict on the people every single day

I for one think that there should be an upper limit to the number of times a single person can injure himself with a power saw before I, as the doctor who keeps having to stitch him back together, am legally allowed to smash his power saw.
